Yes, I did before I turned one of my SLI cards off during the game,
at the start of the crashed chopper firefight I could feel the frames dipping and see player movement pausing for a fractions of a second
and was the same any-time there was a really big firefight with lots of action and explosions
(but nowhere near as unplayable as it was when first going into the complex under the mountain)
But now it's so smooth I don't notice a thing
As the sale is over, Steam have raised the price to £ 9.99
But fear not, as it's £ 2.49 at Amazon.co.uk
-
Back in the day I had followed this games development very closely and I had intended to pre-order it but went cold on the title when they suddenly announced they were now not going to have any coop as they had originally announced.
I then still planned to pick it up after release (for the SP) when the price had dropped but then the bug problems started to surface I forgot about it
I had seen it for a fiver before but never bothered, but when saw it on Steam for 1.49 did a quick bit of digging and saw a lot of bugs had been fixed and it was mostly stable
so couldn't resist picking it up to give it a try particularly as I still remember how eagerly I had posted each great looking new gameplay video and hoped this was going to be good
First quick try after installing it played OK but had a little stuttering but it was mostly playable, until got to the mission in "Mountain King" when go inside the mountain then it turned into a complete lag-fest couldn't even walk let alone aim or shoot
tried again with all setting on low ... same thing (plus it now looked really bad and ugly)
Then I tried turning SLI off in the games profile so it only used one card ..... yes it played smoooth no lag or dropped frames, I then tried gradually turning settings higher and higher until eventually had everything on max - Still extremely silky smoooth and looks fantastic
played the whole campaign through and have to say boy it is so worth it, it felt like I had actually been inside a feature film not just playing a game
all the cut-scenes are extremely well done and really do add to the immersion of the game you can feel that they put a lot of effort into this game.
This is one great game (sure there are still a few bugs Like AI standing/running in front when your firing but fairly minor stuff I've seen/encountered).
the first starting mission looked a bit "shoot em up" but then I totally surprised myself on the solo-sniper mission (Anvil) by thinking Hey! Wow! this has a "GR" feel!
and as I play again I find myself playing more and more with a GR/RVS tactical style than straight up running in and shooting. You can play this so many different ways & styles, diving a drone into a group for a kamikaze detonation or using it to scout for you while you snipe (or even just leaving a drone hovering in cover off to one side or in the rear to spot on the map if you are suddenly getting flanked). using air-strikes and tanks or hoping out and closing on foot and using rocket launcher to pick them off
and as tinker says using the drones definitely adds a whole other level to gameplay, plus It's awesome fun! like sending an-assault drone down a corridor to do some room clearance on a group of hostiles
or flying recon drones to peak in windows or flying the rocket chopper up a building to take out hidden sniper(s) on the roof.Definitely going to be playing this again and again

I was talking about the pics the thread starter put up!

Errm So was I and so was everybody else, they were from Ghost Recon too because
Everything in this thread and the three forum levels above is for the game of Ghost Recon (when we talk of Ghost Recon or GR we mean the GR/DS/IT game, not the genre)
The only thing I can think is did you maybe mean to ask what MOD those pics were from ?
(as Game and Mod are two completely different things and might explain why everybody is confused by you asking what game they were from)
but if so, that again was answered in the 3 posts two weeks before you posted (and also is exactly what the thread starter was wanting to know when he started this thread)

Following a technical fault at an exchange in the Edinburgh area last night which caused disruption to some broadband services, BT confirms that all services have been restored to customersBT's engineering teams worked throughout the night to resolve outstanding customer issues and to monitor the performance of the network.affected up to 20,000 UK homes
-
BT has confirmed the technical problems are affecting a "significant part" of the UK and say engineers are working to fix them.
Northern Ireland, Scotland and the north of England are the main areas affected.
"There's an issue with a node in Edinburgh and we've sent our engineers to deal with it,""BT are aware of a temporary problem" affecting the Fair Isles, Northern Highlands and Islands area, as well as the Edinburgh area.so that's thousands of people's weekend off to a bad start, hope they get it sorted sharpish
I Know how much broadband outages suck
-
Hmmm deja vu, didn't you already ask me that.....
ah yes, you did http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=53621&view=findpost&p=549104
But at the moment there is not really an excuse not to get both in a bundle deal
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2487/
but if absolutely can only scrape up enough pennies for just one, then as I said in the other thread it would have to be L4D 2 as it's a better engine and the melee weapons are too much fun
But the L4d characters and levels are great and absolutely should still be played
They have just converted the first level and characters of L4D over onto L4D 2 (as it says in the above sacrifice DLC blurb) so hopefully in time they might eventually all be on the new engine, then would only need to get second game but no telling how long that will take

Going from 50 to 100 will only be £7 more per month, so it's a bit of a no-brainer for most heavy users on 50 to Double their D/L speeds
*and could be a smart marketing plan from VM to sell it (otherwise if it was too high, yes most people would stick on 50 as it's normally enough for most days)
“Virgin Media is putting clear blue water between it and BT with this new 100Mb broadband service.”“Rather like car companies are in a horsepower war – the broadband companies are in a Mb war.VM already have some trial households on 200 Mb and VM have indicated a goal looking at 400 Mb ! 2012-2014 (they are already working on a brand new 400 Mb router) and then to 1 Gb (by 2017)

Yeah, Rocky probably only 3-5 minutes difference for a single film/show download (hardly earthshaking) but will be more noticeable with streaming media and particularly as MeanMF said when doing lots of separate things at the same time or with several PCs/laptops/Game consoles simultaneously accessing the net (or more accurately it will be the lack of net slowdown/spikes that you wont notice during use
)one big incentive that many people may not spot straight away because they focus on the "huge" download speed, is the upload speed for 100 is a whopping 10 Mb !!
- (*50Mb currently has an upload of 1.5 Mb and is scheduled to increase to 5 Mb "soon")
Now that will definitely be very noticeable for myself and Rocky (eg when uploading mods and stuff for the sites Etc) and would be worth an extra fiver in its own right
-

Multiplayer Expansion pack = $14.99 (1200 MS Points on console) -
Posted on the EA forums:
Early on BFBC2 our PC playtest feedback showed that weapon feeling was lacking. It just wasn't as much fun to shoot the guns on PC as on console. With controls being the big gameplay difference (mouse vs pad) it quickly became clear that simply put the original weapon tweaks, which were done on the PS3, weren't working on PC. The guns all had a bit of base inaccuracy, that with a gamepad wasn't really noteworthy, but on PC it really prevented players from taking advantage of the mouse input. On 2142 one of the key things about the guns is that they were all deadly accurate, they lost damage over range sure, but if you could put the crosshairs on the target you could hit it. Sure, some people feel like an AR should be more accurate than an SMG or carbine. I feel like the issue is "ARs should be better at range" and thus, they do better damage over range than the SMGs.In response to the feedback on PC, I completely retweaked the accuracy. The next playtest it was immediately obvious that it was a change for the better, and surprisingly it also made gamepads feel much better as well.
Fundamentally I think it is an error to have different core gameplay on console vs PCs. PC gives a player more input control and if a gun feels good on PC it feels good on console. I won't "dumb it down" by lowering the recoil or changing the damage model or other such silliness.
PC and Console Battlefield players want similar gameplay: Epic sprawling Battlefields, and also tight infantry fights. Balanced weapons and land/sea/air vehicles with a rock-paper-scissors emphasis. Squad and teamplay, where no one player can be a do-it-all super soldier, and communications systems to support teamplay. And a deep and rewarding system of progression with deep and varied gameplay that keeps you wanting to go 1 more round. Everyone also wants it to be easy to play with their friends.
Consoles generally are less tolerant of overly complex interfaces. They have less buttons, you need more elegant interfaces. Deep systems work well though if they have a straight forward interface. The fun is not in figuring out how to use the system, it's in figuring out how to best use the system.
PC players have their own set of requirements. They tend to play only on PC, and they know their PCs have capabilities beyond that of a console. The gap is narrowing, but PCs still have a clear advantage in memory. PC players also demand a PC interface, a server browser, and anything that feels like it might have been "ported" from a console is going to get flamed hard. They are more forgiving of complex systems and will tear any design down into its parts to really figure out how it works. It's a damn sight harder to please a PC player, they have higher expectations.
It's too early to talk BF3 specifics. But it's never too early for me to acknowledge that PC players have a fear that BF3 will be "consolized." PC gaming is alive and well, BFBC2 has proven that and no one at DICE or EA can argue with the numbers. Battlefield 3 needs an extra bit of special attention on the PC. I intend to give it that attention, tradition and our community demand it.

Techspot have posted a Graphics & CPU Performance test review of Medal of Honor Single Player
*Why only SP? I hear you ask, well that's because MoH uses two different graphics engines
a heavily modified Unreal Engine 3 for Single Player and DICE's Frostbite engine for Multiplayer
http://www.techspot.com/review/324-medal-of-honor-performance/
Folks looking to enjoy Medal of Honor on high quality settings at a mild resolution such as 1680x1050 can get by with affordable mid-range graphics cards like the Radeon HD 5770 or GeForce GTS 450. We were surprised at how well previous generation graphics cards handled this game, particularly those belonging to the GeForce GTX 200 series. The two-year-old GTX 260 averaged a healthy 62fps at 1920x1200 using the highest available visual settings.Gamers wanting to experience Medal of Honor on high quality across multiple screens or at extreme resolutions such as 2560x1600 will require a top-end card such as the Radeon HD 5870 or preferably the GeForce GTX 480, which delivered 18% better performance.Medal of Honor is highly optimized for quad-core processors. We observed significant gains when going from two to four processing cores, whereas frequency clock and architecture mattered very little. -

a tweet from 2K Marin's Steve Gaynora a few days ago
Doesn't he sound fed up of getting asked thatOfficial: Minerva's Den is never coming out for PC. Now you can stop asking me, internet. Please address any further concerns to @2KGamesand a more detailed forum post by 2K's Elizabeth Tobey
Hey guys,I have an update on the status of patches for BioShock 2 and some answers to questions on features that have been outstanding for a while.
- We will not be adding vending machine sounds into any version of BioShock 2 and we will not be adding playlists for the multiplayer DLC maps – we did look in to both options but due to technical and timing issues, these two fixes are not feasible.
- We are planning patches for the 360 and PS3 to fix some functionality issues, but they will not drastically change gameplay (and I’ll post the patch notes when I get them – these two items are still in with QA.)
- We will also not be offering Protector Trials and Minerva’s Den on the PC in the future – and I want to say that I’m sorry for the disappointment this will cause to PC players out there.
As always, if any of these issues change in the future, I will update you guys first, but at this point in time I don’t want to make you wait any longer and these are the most definite answers I have and you guys should deem them final decisions.
Please feel free to PM me or email with any questions – I’ll follow up in this thread as best as possible but if I miss your comment, I’m not ignoring you – I might just not have read the post – If this happens, again, just ping me and we can chat.
Thanks,
Elizabeth

Planned Downtime on Monday, October 11th
Beginning at 4:00 am Pacific time Monday October 11th, we will be performing software maintenance on the Steam servers. We expect the resulting downtime to last four hours at most, putting the end of the window at 8:00 am Pacific time.
Some Steam services will be offline during this time. Affected services will include the Steam Community, in-game matchmaking or lobbies, downloading games from Steam content servers, and making purchases from the Steam store. Games that do not rely on Steam matchmaking services should remain playable.
We will work to make this downtime as short as possible. Thank you for your patience!
So in the UK that would be between 12:00 and 16:00

Patch 1.0006 was withdrawn due to a "Security problem in online Multiplayer" (also mods don't work with it) but some people who don't use mods and don't play MP (in other words they only play single player) still use it as it is reportedly the most stable version, which is why some sites still have it listed for D/L.
The latest "official" patch is still 1.0005
S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC website - Patches D/L page.
so out of the box you should only need to install 1.0005 (IIRC It's cumulative)
*and if you only want to play SP and no mods then you can also add 1.0006 (which is not cumulative and does requires 1.0005 to be installed first)

Ahh right, so you wanted to know what mission the pics were from
Not sure of that specific mission's name, whether it was released or even if it was just a "stage posed" by the author ToF for screenshots
but The Map itself is called "Cartel"
The original updated mods package link doesn't seem to work any more

You can still get just this map on it's own here:

*But it doesn't include any characters or missions and is only available to "visit" or to play firefight/recon Etc with stock characters
as this particular version was intended for people to just include as a "required mod" and for them to write their own missions on it
IIRC Alpha Squad were looking to use this map for the "Alpha Mod" but there were issues with enemy AI being able to see through the vegetation so it was dropped
think their mission was going to be called "Operation Ivy" so that's probably where this particular screen shot came from
pity as it's a great looking map
