  1. patches-scrolls.de has a 1.56 and 1.57 patch listed.

    Any news or info on those?

    Yes, There was already a thread for Patch 1.56 in this forum (It's the thread above this one, a Pinned thread)

    Patch 1.57 was just released a couple of days ago, I'll start a new thread on it

    So you should only need to get 1.57 as it will patch A2 from 1.05 and OA from 1.50

    you didn't say if you had any DLC but 1.57 should do them too

  2. REQUIREMENTS: An original version of Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead at 1.50 - 1.56

    NOTE: This patch will also update your:

    * ARMA 2 1.05 to 1.08

    * BAF 1.00 to 1.02 if necessary.

    * PMC 1.00 to 1.01 if necessary.

    - Fixed crash while recording that could cause video to be written incompletely

    - Fixed rare bug causing graphic corruption of individual frames in recorded movies

    - Fixed crash on Windows 2000 machines

  4. You really need to provide details if we stand a chance of trying to help you

    For example:

    Is this in Single-Player or in Multi-player ?

    How exactly do you mean slow ? (is it FPS, Screen refresh, Movement, is it all the time or more when lots of firing or explosions, or on certain maps/missions Etc..)

    What are the full specs of your PC ? (also if this is about MP what are details of your internet connection and hardware)

    are you running any mods or is this just stock game ?

    check to make sure STEAM has definitely patched the game to the latest version # ?

    Does this only happen in GR ? do other games play OK or do others have problems

    Is this definitely about GR, DS & IT and not one of the GR:AW's ? as GR should run fine even on very low spec PC with details still on medium-high

  5. as has been posted in several threads before, GR runs perfectly fine under Windows 7 :thumbsup:

    Unfortunately though, you are too late for the Steam sale of GR/DS/IT for £3 or the complete pack at £7.49 as that was a special only for 24 hours

    they are back to being only 25% off until 2nd of Jan (so it's now £22.49 for the complete pack and after 2nd of Jan will be back to £29.99)

  6. I've added this to the FAQ incase others have the same issue.

    Rocky, you'll probably want to change that entry as there are two separate and different problems reported in the OP (also both are relevant to all versions not just Steam)

    For the first issue, as already stated the GR server list is empty simply because it's not actually a server browser (the user has to enter IP's manually or use a 3rd party application)

    *and that's also covered in the Multiplayer FAQ's - Idiots Guide to Ghost Recon Multiplayer thread that is pinned to the top of the GR Tech Support Forum.

    as to the two error messages when using ubi.com

    The plugin list URL was not found in your settings file.

    !!DialogLogin.Error.ERROR50!!(en)

    that is a separate issue and is because the Ubi.com service was updated and that is the old version, the "fix" from UBI support is to update to the new version of GameService:

    1. You must to unistall the ubi.com program from your PC.

    2. Please download the "uninstall.reg" file to your desktop from http://help.support.ubi.com/uninstall.reg and double left click on it.

    3. Once this is completed, visit http://gamingzone.ubisoft.com/packages/GameService.exe and download this file to your desktop. Once you double left click on the "GameService" file that will be created on your desktop, the game service should work fine.

    NOTE: for step 2 you can either right-click on the reg link and "Save link As" or click on the link (it open what looks like a page of text) and then save file to desktop and then run it

    or you can just manually delete the following registry entries (in bold) using reg edit:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{AEDDF5A3-29CE-11D5-A8C2-000102246AAE}

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Ubi soft\AutoRTPatch

  7. An interesting article over at Techradar;

    Windows 8 will represent a real new push into PC gaming

    Gaming will be a key component for the whole OS

    Microsoft will use Windows 8 to relaunch itself at the forefront of PC gaming, TechRadar understands, with the software giant ready to put its weight behind the platform once more.

    The rise and rise of the MMO has underlined the power of PC gaming. Along with real time strategies and the still vibrant first-person shooter scene, it remains one of the planet's most popular gaming platforms.

    However, despite Windows remaining hugely influential, Microsoft's reluctance to embrace the PC as a gaming platform in recent years has angered many.

    In the first in a series of gameplay biographies introducing key players in the game's narrative, Staff Sergeant Knox explains his role in Tajikistan as the USMC are shown taking on deadly insurgent enemies.

    The trailer demonstrates some of the wide range of combat scenarios which players will encounter in the game's diverse new battlefield of Tajikistan, with Knox's narration detailing his personal take on the conflict.

    From defending bases to sweeping through mountains, villages and towns to flush out entrenched enemies, Knox and his Marine Fireteams are shown engaging insurgents at range and close-quarters, supported by ground and air support.

    In an awesome display of power, A10 bombers are shown obliterating an insurgent stronghold with a strafing bombing run before the marines sweep in.

  9. an update on the long overdue patch (2 years), was Posted on the EA forums a few days ago

    Battlefield 2142 1.51 (hopefully final) Beta

    So we got our programmer back to work on BF2142 1.51 and he fixed the server problem we had remaining and are sending out the servers to the Beta server providers today.

    Tomorrow 17th December 2010 will see the release of hopefully the last BF2142 1.51 Beta and will run until mid-January 2011 where we'll decide, based on your feedback, if it is final and ready for release.

    I'll update this post with download links when I have them but you'll generally be able to pick the new client up at Fileplay tomorrow.

    The only changes have have been server side but the client had to be updated to have the version numbers match.

    As long as there are no major issues in the update like new constant crashes, black screens, server failure etc then this will also be the version that is released as final so you won't need to install another version after.

    This v1.51 update contains:

    * No DRM on the BF2142.exe file

    * Northern Strike free for everyone

    * Whole bunch of new maps including Strike at Karkand 2142 and Operation Blue Pearl.

    * Account security updates

    * More...

    EDIT: The Beta will go live around 2pm UK today. You can get the client from around 1:45pm from here: http://www.fileplay.net/file/12316/bf2142-patch-1-51-beta

  12. In a chat about EA's efforts to take some of the market share away from Activision and its Call of Duty franchise, EA CEO John Riccitiello said

    ... next year we'll make a lot more progress. We've got a couple of third-party games ~, and then our big focus is Battlefield 3 in the second half of the year.

    I'd be shocked if we didn't take a notch out of [Activision].

    Battlefield 3 is "designed to be the one that is the big leap forward; the one that is going to help a lot" in terms of competing with the Call of Duty franchise.

  13. Virgin Media has taken its 100Mbps service live now in four parts of the country, the lucky areas are:

    * Heckmondwike

    * Farnborough

    * Colchester

    * Barry, South Wales

    The roll-out will continue across the Virgin Media cable network during 2011 with completion set for 2012, at which point almost half the UK will have the option for a 100Meg service at a reasonable price point. The 10Meg upstream speed is respectable, and given powerful enough video encoding solutions would allow someone at home to transmit video at current HD TV levels.

  17. For example. I left it doing some backups at lunch time today, came home and the PC was off! Most unusual. Then, it would not turn on, until I powered the whole tower down.

    Is this a windows 7 thing?? That's the only thing I have changed recently.

    Oh, and when it does come back on - it goes back to the pre shut down state - with all the windows that were open, still up. That's got to be a clue!

    Yeah, your PSU is fine

    That is Windows finishing the backup then because it's sitting there not active for a length of time It's going into Sleep mode

    what's supposed to happen next is when you get back you just hit the return key, space bar or click the mouse and it should wake back up to the state it was at right before it slept....

    But what happens is that you have to power the PC off/on to get it to wake up

    I've had that happen myself and there are numerous cases all over the web of PC's not waking back up after sleep (it's normally due to USB also sleeping and so it then cant detect the keyboard anymore (and also in some cases certain motherboards and even some graphics cards can affect it))

    Some people just put a spare PS/2 mouse or keyboard directly in the PS/2 port for use to wake it back up

    but the easiest fix is to go to: "Control panel" \ "power options" \ "change when computer sleeps" \ "put the computer to sleep" \ then set it to "Never"

  18. Now updated to 3.2.4

    - Fixed flickering counter in some OpenGL applications

    - Fixed mouse offset in 3D browser apps

    - Fixed FRAPS.EXE not appearing signed on some Windows 7 installations

    - Fixed systray icon not turning pink in loop recording mode.

    - Fixed startup crash on 24-core CPU systems

    - Added support for Win7 SP1 RC

    - Other minor bug/stability fixes

    Now updated to 3.2.5

    3.2.5 - 2nd Dec 2010

    - Fixed keys sticking/duplicated with Fraps loaded

    - Fixed Fraps not capturing in half-size mode for some users

  19. You'll probably be fine

    but just to mention a possibility...

    If both physical drives have MBR's and Both OS's were installed independently of each other neither knowing the other exists.

    you may find they don't play nice when both are connected at same time

    EG you may find it automatically boots into windows 7 and doesn't dual boot with XP

    now if that does happen you'd probably be able to go into the BIOS and manually change the boot order priority (but would have to do it each time wanted to changed O/S)

    or you can use something like Easybcd or a repair install but with a windows dual boot they become interlinked and potentially harder to extricate

  20. This is where my only grumble resides.

    If I want to buy Arma, I want to buy a new game and play it. never properly optimised is a poor excuse to sell games.

    Arma 2 is the same. Nice to see them continue to work on there game. But I only have Arma 2. I have to buy the expansion to benefit from DLC? When Arma2 can still hold so many issues alone. Sometimes quality does come before quantity.

    Smaller maps from BIS with less content and we could be getting somewhere.

    To be fair they did always say right from the start back in 2005 when they recognised that the permanently delayed flashpoint sequel just wasn't going to happen and they made the decision to "split away" from codemasters and to forge ahead with 2 games themselves, the first game would be to enable them to get a foot back in the market and to provide the war chest necessary to work on the longer goal to release a proper "Next gen" (game 2) some 2-3 years later.

    so we always were aware that "Game 1" would be a stepping stone on the route to "Game 2" and that realistically "Game 1" (ArmA) would only have a 2 year life, which is more than some titles (like when Ubi sacked/moved the team that build a game shortly after it's release and then had to bring in a new fresh team in to write the patches (which worked out really well for them NOT))

    but what we didn't expect was

    a. That Game 2 (Arma 2) felt like it was being rushed to market as there was still obvious bugs that had been noted but that were not fixed in the gold master code that was released to retail

    b. Then barely 2 months after the release came the bombshell when they suddenly announced the Standalone Game Operation arrowhead with a new improved engine that they couldn't retrofit to the Arma 2 engine (and bits seemingly lifted from VBS 2) which did make a lot of us wonder why they didn't just delay Arma 2 for 6 months and release a much much better game(as you only get once chance to make a good first impression)

    seemingly cashflow seems to be a big issue for them and that they would rather get some cash in right away for an 80% ok game and then work on the bugs ?

    right now I don't mind buying the DLC's for A2:OA as they are like a very top notch mod and they are reasonably priced too and more importantly I am hopeful that they are funding BIS so they can continue to improve and develop A2:OA for some time and we are on the verge of a fantastic game if they can just polish it some more

    I'd rather have that than to have them suddenly announce Arma 3 next year ! (unless of course A3 is going to be perfect on release day (yeah we are suckers that live in desperate hope... just look at us clinging on to GR.....and Rainbow six))
