  1. a bit more clarification on this patch from the CM forum

Patch 1.03 only does 1 thing, it ADDS the Load external game data step back into the loading process (It was removed by 1.01 patch).

that is ALL this patch does.

It does not fix any bugs, errors, glitches, oversights or innacuracies that were still present in version 1.02 of the game.

The only thing that this "patch" does is bringing back the mods support

Explains, why we suddenly get a 1.03 out of the blue, almost a year after they said That's it for Dragon Rising. No further patches or DLC

also why they are Beta'ing it as probably all of the original dev team have been on other things for a year

This is just too little, WAY too late. Majority of players will have long since uninstalled and moved on

  2. I'll move and and start saving somewhere else.

In XP I saved all my documents to another internal HD, for some reason I never got into using My Documents.

What's the consesnus of opinion for routine docs that we create, use My Doc because it has bome built in features for handling diff doc types, or just create a seperate folder somewhere for all user created docs?

don't bother with "My Documents" folder

save all user documents to a separate partition or drive (so if you need to format and/or reinstall the O/S, your documents are separate and safe and plus it also makes it much simpler to back up)

  3. I just don't understand how I've got in this pickle

Basically its just because you are saving them under the programs installation folder and when the program installed itself it set some "old" style permissions to it's own folders because it was designed pre Win7.

If you had saved them to a different partition, root folder, desktop, or even mydocuments you would have picked up the default windows 7 permissions and it would be fine

not having files I created displayed when browsing the file manager is a concern.

its just because you are saving them somewhere your windows 7 account doesn't have correct access to, so once they are saved your account just doesn't have necessary permissions to see or access them any-more through windows.

PSP can see the folders but your windows account by itself cant

but anyway it looks like all you need to do is just delete that first line in your screenshot the

Administrators (Dads-PC\Administrators) - Special - not inherited - this folder only

as that is a limiting permission

and you can also delete both of the "creator owner" lines too (as you and other users are already covered under the other Administrators and users lines)

once you've done that it should cascade the new permissions down to all of the sub-folders and files and it will then work for new folders and the old locked ones should also work

(but if for some reason they still show with padlocks then you will need to edit the permissions on each one manually to allow administrators + users acess)

but again you really should have all your documents together on a separate partition/drive

  4. on folder Labels under security, click on advanced and see what it says under "inherit from" and particularly "apply to"

inherit from: should say something other than "<not inherited>"

apply to: should say "folders, subfolders and files" (or "this folders and subfolders") for "Administrators (Dads-PC\Administrators)" group and also for your login username

But you really should just save these user files to the separate partition/drive where you save all your documents (you don't save everything to the default "my documents" folder right) or does pressit not have a "file open" to allow you to select other locations to open files from?)

  5. Yes that's just because folders 82-86 have padlocks on them which means your windows account isn't listed in them and so is why windows isn't showing them to you

you seem to be saving user files inside where the program is installed (and this is why your getting weird permission/access rights), normally good practice recommends to save all user documents to a separate partition or drive (so if you need to format and/or reinstall the O/S, your documents are separate and safe and plus it also makes it much simpler to back up)

Right, so What are the security setting for the folder called Labels

what exact group(s) and user name(s) are listed and what permissions do they each have ?

  6. I use PSP and have never had that problem

Where exactly are you creating these new folders ?

have you checked to make sure the next level up (or the root of the drive) actually has correct permissions itself to start with

when you create a folder or file it should inherit the settings of the container it's in (eg if the root level or main folder only has system permissions then anything created in it will also only have system)

sounds like you are saving them somewhere your windows 7 account doesn't have permissions to, so once they are saved your account just doesn't have necessary permissions to see or access them any-more (which is why you see a padlock on them)

Is this by any chance on an external hard-drive ? ...and maybe one used from a older or previous O/S?

  7. An interesting tweet by DICE developer Johan Andersson has resurfaced

Frostbite 2 is primarily developed for DX11.

XP & DX9 is _not_ supported, 64-bit OS is recommended.

Lots of time to upgrade if you havent!

    http://bf3blog.com/2010/12/battlfield-3-wont-support-windows-xp/

Nice to see 64-bit actually being touted by developers, hopefully this means the game will actually take full advantage of any extra RAM

While it it might seem a slightly surprising intention, given the high number of people still using XP (although now with Win 7 there is finally a viable and realistic O/S upgrade path available for XP users (completely bypassing vista)

By focusing on DX11 I suppose their intention is to go for more and much better eye-candy and it does set a minimum required hardware level of High/Very-High as it automatically excludes all non-DX11 graphics cards, so we can hopefully expect to get some amazing great visuals.

  8. ahaha.. remember this STEAM sale Http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=54082

I did already have just CoH on Disk then but grabbed the complete collection on STEAM in the above sale

....and I still have to play them through completely in SP too :wall:

ok so with all that RTS goodness above AND B:BC2 that I got for Christmas, Plus the on-line coop with ArmA 2 (that I'm now enjoying on my upgraded PC)

that's me booked up solid through 2012 then

*oh and that's even without mentioning X-Com: UFO Defence, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and World in Conflict I've also been playing again over the Hols....**TILT - Holy RTS overload Batman!** oh and there's also L4D 2 and GR and F:FoW and BF2.....

EEEP I really must stop listing all the games I have lining up to be played now as it's getting scary

:shifty: still it's only a fraction of what Rocky has lined up :P

  9. A sale restriced to 3 hours, at this time of year? I was still hungover! :wall::wall:

it was for 24hr's but done on US time (I think it would have started the previous night about 6pm UK time)

but I only logged on just before 3pm and saw it, but it only had 3hrs left then, so I posted right away in case anyone online here was interested and could get it

I already had Theatre of War and It's good, so grabbed these too as it was just too good a bundle to miss

some vids & pics of ToW, some ToW 2: Africa vids and pics and from ToW 2: Kursk

    [O/T]

and I also grabbed a couple of the recent C&C games which were £3 each on sale from STEAM at the same time)

    [/O/T]

so I now have plenty of RTS to play and keep me going in any free time I may have in 2011  (and probably into 2012 :P )

  10. header_586x192.jpg?t=1289862669

a Bargain on STEAM for RTS fans, the Theatre of War Collection is 75% off, but only for the next 3 hours! (sale started yesterday US time)

    so instead of £34.99 it's only £8.75

    http://store.steampowered.com/sub/6640/

    Theatre of War:

    header_292x136.jpg?t=1278986434

Theatre of War 2: Kursk 1943

    header_292x136.jpg?t=1288718924

Theatre of War 2 - Battle for Caen (DLC)
      header_292x136.jpg?t=1293747449

Theatre of War 2: Africa 1943

    header_292x136.jpg?t=1279746011

Theatre of War 2: Centauro (DLC)
      header_292x136.jpg?t=1278986439

and even though I already have Theatre of War and you can also buy each of the game & DLC individually in the same sale

it actually works out cheaper to buy the complete collection than just the "missing" titles

  11. Might be a good time for anyone who is missing ArmA from their collection (or just the expansion pack) to consider picking it/them up

The SprocketIdea New Year Sale is under way on www.sprocketidea.com

Sale ends Midnight CET January 2nd 2011, so don't delay, buy now!

ArmA: GOLD Edition - 50% off

    ArmA: Queen's Gambit - 60% off

NOTE: The ArmA: GOLD pack includes the Queen's Gambit expansion pack.

  12. If not him then at least one of the other players on that server had the German version, as all other players can use it too while a German Version owner is present on the server.

It does have great accuracy (even when not using the scope)

The SIG SG552 is a fully automatic assault rifle, very similar to the Assault Rifle.

It also has a 2x scope, which allows the rifle to zoom in, much like a Hunting Rifle or a Sniper Rifle, but not nearly as far as either weapon, which significantly improves accuracy at long range. Using it in this particular mode will reduce the rate of fire.

Even without using the scope, due to its status as a hybrid assault/sniping weapon, the SIG SG552 has extremely tight crosshairs when standing still, similar to the sniping class weapons.

The damage per shot is the same as the Assault Rifle, but it fires two more shots per minute.

However, reload time is higher than the Assault Rifle, but it is still faster than the Combat Rifle.

  13. It's legit, That weapon is from the German version.

    & Yes the weapon is a Sig552

    250px-SG-552_whitebg.png

Because Valve had to heavily censor the German version they got some different weapons to make up for it

Valve used some existing weapons from Counter-Strike and "ported" them over

anyone who plays with someone who owns the German version will encounter these weapons too.

In the German version of the game they also get:

    H&K MP5:

    Steyr Scout:

  14. ahh, I really like EVGA, 10 year warranty and.....

when I just registered my cards and found out that I get a free copy of 3DMark 11 Advanced Edition coolio :D

    Soooo jealous!!

    while I may be :yay:

my bank account is still going >_<>_<

But it's been a rough year and I've done plenty of overtime to squirrel some funds away specifically for it

    so what the heck :santa:

There was me thinking my GTX 480 was the dogs! :(

Yeah my 285's were nice but I'd been overdue for an upgrade for a while but was specifically hanging on for one of the new GF110 improved cards

my "problem" is that I have a 30in Dell screen which is great for desktop work and most games, but a few "unoptimised" games (yeah you know who you are) really take some work tweaking to get to run ok at such a high native resolution (2560x1600)

I had even considered getting a newer smaller screen and just one new card to run at games at 1920x1200 or 16800x1050 to take the load off (and use one of the 285's to run the 30in screen in multi-screen), but in the end this all worked out for the best (even though they were late and scarce for Christmas)

I did look at the factory overclocks, but it was silly money! for just a handful more frames (plus the Super-clocked Black Ops 580 had a gopping ugly logo on the card :P )and I can always over-clock em myself to those levels should I ever feel the need)

  15. Yeah, one card uses 2x PCI slots

But it's the same size as the 285(s) I took out and also the same size as a 8800GXT which I have in my other PC & IIRC you have/had in yours?

    015-P3-1580-ER_LG_5.jpg

and although they are same size but run cooler and quieter,

one thing I did have to be aware of is that each card does require a SIX pin and an EIGHT pin PCI-E power connector (whereas my previous card used two 6 pin plugs per card)

    015-P3-1580-ER_LG_6.jpg

Click on the photo above for a larger version of the image

but fortunately as I had particularly chosen a modular power supply, was able to just swap power cables over easy peasy, clip-out clip-in and my PSU has plenty of spare power for these two beasts

*although they do provide an adapter in the box (top item in the image) which converts two 6 pin cables into an eight pin plug (but you would still need another free 6 pin plug as well per card).

  16. Well my Christmas(+Birthday) present to myself has just been delivered :D

(Had been waiting to order for a while but they only came into stock on Christmas Eve and while was dispatched same day, due to the bank holidays had to wait for the courier company to return to work today to deliver them from the local depot)

    015-P3-1580-ER_LG_1.jpg

    015-P3-1580-ER_LG_1.jpg

Unleash the bananas of awesome happiness... :yay::yay::yay:

Have just removed old cards and fitted them (I already had the necessary extra capacity power plugs in place ready)

*does anyone else hold their breath when they first turn on the PC after fitting new hardware or is it just me ^_^

all good and booted into windows fine, loaded the new 580 drivers (I had previously downloaded ready), rebooted and set Resolution and enabled SLI .....Yep all working fine

Have just had a quick try of Arma2:Operation Arrowhead (the demo scenarios) and they were as smooooooooth as a very very smooth thing being smooth

Now to go through and turn the settings UP on all my games (those that weren't already on max) and then spend some time having to go through and tweak all the options in some of them to find the sweet spot, it's the only "bad" bit ;)

anyone else got 580(s) ? I am very please with my EVGA ones nice quality cards - definitely lower temps with quiet fans even under high load

  18. * improved netcode (better locality handling)

    Oh Yeah!

    * 4 new bonus scenarios for owners of the full version of Arma 2: Private Military Company

Guess they picked up on all the comments from unhappy PMC purchasers about the limited content

and are trying some damage limitation

Edit: For info they are 4x new Single-Player missions (well actually only 3 and a showcase)

      * Infiltration: Sneak under the cover of darkness to destroy a rocket artillery test site.

      * Reaction: Battle through the mist to recover missing clients.

      * Provision: Take to the air to deliver a crucial cargo drop for UN troops in central Takistan.

      * Showcase: Enjoy the diversity of the PMC faction in a showcase mission.

    * Fixed: AI Helicopters wobbling up and down

Great!, I'd seen from the bug log that BIS were reporting this as fixed and they were just waiting to add to a patch.

I will have to check this out for myself as that particular flight bug was really off-putting and spoilt any mission with a chopper.
