  1. More info on what I was talking to some of you about lastnight:

A damaged undersea transatlantic cable is being blamed for causing havoc for Net and phone users in the UK last night.

A number of ISPs are understood to have been hit by the problem, which surfaced (the problem, not the cable) yesterday afternoon at around 4pm.

The cable - which is owned by a consortium of telcos - is believed to have hit a snag (figuratively speaking, of course) somewhere off the French coast. France Telecom, which is responsible for that section of cable, is sending a boat out to examine the damage.

At this stage it's not known exactly what the damage is or what caused it. However, the effects of the incident were felt in the UK last night.

BT has confirmed that some of its voice services were hit by the outage, while NTL blamed the cable problem for downing its Net service - including web browsing, email, ftp and newsgroups - for around eight hours.

The service was back up and running by around 1am today, although the cableco has conceded that some punters may still be suffering problems this morning.

Telewest confirmed that its customers also experienced difficulties accessing email and personal webspace for around four hours. Although it's still investigating the matter, a spokesman acknowledged that the problems could be a result of the damaged cable.

And Tiscali said it was unaffected by the incident, although some of its punters may have found accessing US-based sites slower than usual.

  2. *My 1st piece of advice would be to avoid the UBI servers and the ubi.com software like the plague, that is where a lot of run&gun idiots hang out.

Start GR and select Multiplayer, and then the Internet tab.

You will then need to type in some IP addresses into the page and then "Join Game" to one that is running the type of game you're looking for

For some great IP's checkout the games room forum here (for member hosted games) and in there you will also find a pinned topic listing dedicated servers (Or click here).

There is also another list of dedicated server on the main page (click on "news" at the top of the forum) and then half way down on the right you will see a box titled "Dedicated Servers"

*Most games will require your game to be patched to level 1.4 and to also have the DS and IT mission packs. Some will also be running mods which you will have to D/L first before trying to join

    :)

  3. Q. Did you happen to get your CD bundled with an MSI video card and did it look like this... ?

    msi-gr.jpg

If it is then follow this link for the solution MSI video card Ghost Recon Game Bundle

The version that ships with the MSI video card is not actually a full retail version of Ghost Recon. It is a bundled version and is not on a retail CD.

After installing the v1.4 patch for Ghost Recon, you must have the [Ghost Recon] CD in the drive to play. Since this is not an original retail GR disk, you will experience this problem.

  4. All that has happened is the bob1820 has "discovered" the unlocked_missions and unlocked_heroes files that GR uses.

This is NOT A HACK (or cheat) and is something that is well known and published since GR came out.

There is a pinned topic at the top of this forum detailing how to update these files to unlock missions and Specialists see here for details.

It is useful for those players who have reinstalled GR and don’t want to replay the missions again just to unlock them.

  5. So the answer is yes  ;)  where are the files for commandmap located

Command map actor icons are in ~\shell\art\cmi.rsb

If you ask very nicely, Jack57 may let you use the one from his mod Brothers in Arms or you could make your own as Ravenmouth suggested above.

  6. Sorry but I don't know what IT and DS is (expansion packs?).

I just play with a CD I got with my graphics card, and patched that up to 1.4.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling back up to 1.3 so that it wouldnt need the CD but unfortunatly it still does.  I guess it left some registry entries there somewhere.

Would that be an MSI card then ?

If it is then follow this link for the solution MSI video card Ghost Recon Game Bundle

  7. You don't run a dedicated server and GR on the same box.

Dedicated server mode is only for if you have a second PC or server that you want to run the game on (usually 24/7).

To Host and play on the same PC all you need to do is:

      1. Launch GR.

      2. Go to multiplayer

      3. Select either Internet or LAN

      4. Hit create game.

      5. Give your IP to your brother (or post it in the game room if public)

*Depending on your setup you may need to open the ports up on any firewalls/routers Etc and if you do have a router make sure you post the public IP and not the internal one that GR will give you.

  9. Interesting that the forum allows clan adverts and recruiting, but not here......hmmmmm....

    ?

Clan adverts and recruiting ARE allowed at both sites.

GR.net has a Clans and ladders forum specifically for it but as yet the number of posts about it over at AGR-S.com isnt great enough to warrant us creating a forum for it there (yet).

  10. Yes, The mod was designed to do that

    No Threat Indicator (Brothers_in_Arms\shell\art\threat.rsb)

    No Night Vision (Brothers_in_Arms\textures\nvmask.rsb, mask_nv.rsb, mask_sr-nv.rsb, nvmaskalpha.rsb)

No Command map actor icons. (Brothers_in_Arms\shell\art\cmi.rsb)

No 'Skip Cinematic' on some mission cinematics.

To restore the above aids delete the indicated files.

However I strongly urge you at least try the night missions without NV as the environments have been optimised to play without NV.

  11. The Castle (day) - MP Map 06 was not included when the first Ghost Recon CD's were sold (and was added by one of the early patches).

What patch level are you at ?

You should be patched up to 1.4.

If you don't have Island Thunder, you will need to patch to 1.3 first.
