No there are free public servers at the bottom of the list (you may need to stand in line though) they sometimes take a minute or so to show up

If they dont show after a few minutes try hitting refresh and then wait or you may need to close and reselect the D/L link.

I am thinking that I could remedy this by designating the multiplayer platoons to use a different skin, that way the players would just have to sign on to the correct platoon and viola!!
Yeah, that would be the quickest and simplest way to achieve what you wanted with the skins
(better for TvT type games )and for coop games you could replace the Support, Demo, Rifleman, Sniper skins (in the first MP platoon) with your's so that each class in effect becomes a different "person" and you could change the kits used by that "class" so that each person gets their favourite weapons .

Unfortunately, I changed the mods to "Client" in the mods cont. file but I am still having the same problem. When I start the LAN game I am wearing my friends skin and he is wearing mine I have checked and double checked the .chr's,the.atr's, and the .rsb's, am I spelling "Client" wrong or something I didn't think I was illiterate.
The line in the ModsCont.txt file that says
"MULTIPLAYER "Server-Client"is just a note from the author to help people see what type the mod is, it's just text, you could type anything in there and it will have absolutely no effect on the mod or affect it being server or client sided.
Server Side: means that the PC or Server hosting the game is the only one that requires this and it is usually only for .MIS or .GTF or other files that are put into the folders of Origmiss/MP1/MP2.
Client Side: Means that all the PC's playing require to have this mod because it contains things that every PC must have like Skins, Weapon models, textures, maps Etc..
Anything that is released in a folder and has a ModsCont.txt file is going to be Client sided, they call it "Server-Client" so that it is extra clear that everybody including the host must have it to play.
So if you are using new skins or .chr's then they will need to be in a "mod" rather than mixed in with the original files and every PC playing (or hosting) must have it.
Have a look at some released mods to see how the layout and structure is, the best way to learn GR modding is to "take apart" lots of other mods to learn exactly how they work (but dont use anything without permission).

CRC errors indicate the source and installed files are different/mismatched IE they have been corrupted in Download or Installation.
What is your net connection, users on 56k downloading very large mods will sometimes get this if there is a minor transmission interruption during D/L
Did you run/open other things on your PC whilst it was downloading or installing as this also could cause “hicups”.
Where are you downloading from ? (if always from the same site, then try another one see if that helps)
Do you always use the same place for the D/L destination? try choosing a different drive/location as if there is a problem in that partition it may affect anything saved there, also there could be a problem with the installation destination location, try changing it.

The Gold version comes with all the patches and installs as 1.4 as standard, so you dont need to D/L anything else.
Have you tried hosting by direct IP and can people join ?
Most of us here wouldn't touch the ubi servers with a 10Ft barge pole. The easiest (and IMHO the best) way to host is by direct IP:
For the Host:
1. Launch GR
2. Activate any mods
3. Select multiplayer
4. Select "Internet"
5. Select "create game"
6. Posts the External IP in a games room forum (like the one here) or sends it to friends via ICQ/E-mail/MSN Etc)
For the Client:
1. Launch GR
2. Activate any mods
3. Select multiplayer
4. Select "Internet"
5. types the hosts IP address into the box (and PW if the host is using one)
6. Select "Add" (IP is added to the server list and should show the game details)
7 Select "Join"
The fun begins

TS = Team Speak (Voice communication software)

Do you have the Desert Siege and Island Thunder mission packs ? As these are required for this mod to work.
if you do have DS + IT at what point/map/mission is crashing ? and please post the contents of the text file Ike.log (found in the the GR folder)

Only down fall to the game is small gaming community and the lack of missions.
Yep, and were trying to do something about that
Sum of All Fears - Revival! Posted by Pave_Low on Sunday, March 7 2004Several of us on the Aggression team have decided that it is a shame that a great game like SoAF has been mostly overlooked and is not so well known or played.
So we have decided to launch a "Sum of All Fears - Revival", starting with the creation of 2 new forums here at the site consisting of a General Discussion forum and a SOAF Mods and Modding forum with details and reviews of current mods and discussion on all aspects of modding SoAF.
This is but the first step in a campaign to publicise SoAF and get some community discussion flowing. We will also be hosting sessions of SoAF on a regular basis a dedicated game-server will also be on-line frequently.
At the heart of this new revival, work is already well underway on creating a Team Aggression SoAF mod with Skins, Weapons, Kits and a plethora of new missions to play.
So if you've got the game and want to make the most of it or you just want to know more about this game, then pop-across now and see what all the fuss is about.

Right here in this games room

Look for games hosted by forum members
One of the best games you want to try and catch is by WhiteKnight77, he usually puts his "White's Knightmare" up Fri/Sat nights and they are always great fun.
Yep, UBI servers seem to be full of Cheaters, Team-Killers and Run & gun idiots. Most of us here wouldn't touch UBI with a 10ft barge poll.
You also want to check out some of the dedi servers EG: Alpha Squad, RSI Etc
We usually have our own GR dedi server for use by site patrons and were hoping to having something sorted soon
so "watch this space"

Not as standard

But, if you get and run the HX5 mod, there is a mode in it that allows 25-player coop games where you play as 1 team: defend, demo run, assault.

-
If you are just looking for the unlocked mission and specialists .XML's
then they were posted in a pinned topic at the top of this forum:
See here > Save Games [unlocked_missions]

Err.. not sure what you were trying to say there as what you have posted is a bit confusing
The standard (unmoded) sniper rifles in GR/DS/IT are capable of dispatching 99% of enemies with a single shot (preferably to the head).
The standard (unmoded) sniper kits in GR/DS/IT are just a rifle as primary and a pistol or frag as secondary so they are not much good in a close firefight (but then thats not the primary role of a sniper).
However there are plenty of great mods out there that mix a sniper rifle and assault rifle (IE SOTOPlasterV4).
When you say "map builder made the invulnerable " I presume you mean you are playing a mod where the mod maker has used a highly modified CmbtModl.xml to make the armour values very high and this is making the enemies almost invulnerable? in which case that could make the standard weapons ineffective or the modder may have also include weaker weapons with the mod in which case the solution would be to try another more realistic mod and there are plenty of great ones out there
and there are a few mods out there that do include mortars and other heavy weapons with sniper rifles should you want that unlikely kit combination

Yeah, SoAF ROCKS! Its a shame its been kinda overlooked and is not so well known/played.
Try visiting our sister website AGGRESSION (also brought to you by Rocky and Co.) Thats where the Counter-Terrorism folks hang out (Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, Raven Shield and SoAF)
*Just click the banner
We regularly host an all night session of SoAF, just check out the games room for details (and then visit "the squad room" for some after-action reports).

If I want to DL something from File Retreat I keep getting the message QUIT LEECHING! Bad Referer.
Now my question is, ###### am I doing wrong????
Your not doing anything wrong, If you read the error message it does say why:
If you are getting this error and don't happen to be leeching from our site, please read our FAQ for possible solutions to this problem:Question:
Why do I get the following message? -- "QUIT LEECHING! Bad Referrer"
Answer:
Leeching - To steal, or barrow bandwidth from someone else without them knowing about it. File Leeching is a common problem for webmasters and a costly one when someone does it. When you leech from File Retreat, you are basically stealing from us and that is illegal. We will press charges if you try to leech files from us. So please consult with us if you have any questions.
In order to NOT receive this type of message you need to A. left mouse click the "Download Now" link, B. Click the "HERE" link if you have a problem with the download. Those are the only two ways to download files from us.
Another cause for the leeching message is that you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer and or Netscape. We recommend that you use either of these Internet browsers so that you will get a better experience with File Retreat and the 3d Retreat network.
Also if you use Norton 2002 Internet Security or similar programs you will also get the "Leeching" error. To prevent from getting this error, "disable" or "turn off" your "security programs while your downloading from File Retreat, thus letting you get the file without any errors.
If you would like to use File Retreat on your own webpage then please contact Snicker.
3dretreat.com doesn't like firewalls Etc.. I get the same error (but go elsewhere rather than lower system security).
Try here > GR Gun Ballistic Calculator
and here > RSB Converter

It shows up fine for me

A lot of modern mods (including Frostbite) use a blank threat indicator file so as to do away with it.
Just deactivate all mods (so only GR/DS/IT) and the TI should work as normal.
but as you said it's more fun without it, and you can turn it off yourself in the options screen.

From the September 2002 news page of this site:
BattleZone Monday September 16 2002 | RockyBattlezone is a new Desert Siege mission from Richard Fournier that promises some neat action for the Ghosts.
In order to enjoy this mission you'll need to have FL-ava, GRM4 and HX3 installed, there are download links for those in the Readme included with the mission file.
Looks like it is just a mission that uses stuff (actors/equipment/weapons Etc..) from the other mods (so yes they will need to be active too) but given the age it may not work well with the current version of GR (and all of those mods now have had new versions released).
and the map is m08_battlefield from Ghost Recon
Briefing and objectives:
you'll need to demo the building on the west edge of the village ,Our intells says it a secondary HQ of their forces along this route and level itbe sure to get the sam launcher in the area ,he's been hampering the flyover's in the region
assist the us.marines in the taking the village and securing the road
Objective 1. place demo inside the building in village
Objective 2. destroy sam launcher in the area.
Objective 3. get to extraction
-
Nope, you need to do a clean install of GR on the new PC.
But, you can copy the mods to a CD/Zip disk ETc and then transfer them across..
-
I have played and won all the ghost recons for computer when are you going to make a new one
We didn't make Ghost Recon, This is a website run by fans not the company that made it
Try checking out the Ghost Recon 2 Forum for discussion about GR 2.
But check out all the hundreds of mods before you think you're done with GR.
-
Yep,
System could crash or Freeze but then a reboot will bring everything back up OK.
Not a major worry
-
No worries, we'll get you sorted
Some things to look at/try:
40000 (both) at 192.168.1.10142000 (both) at 192.168.1.101
For the ubi.com servers the UDP/TCP ports are:
- 80: Usual Web Port
6667: Usual Chat Port
40000 to 42000: Required Ports for ubi.com*and for GR it's ports 2346 to 2349 (you can can use just one router entry for all 4 ports with both TCP/UDP selected instead of making one entry per port, just make the start 2346 and the end 2349)
[*]Have you turned off the XP firewall on the hosting pc ?
On the PC that is hosting GR. Go to Network connections, then right click on the relevant network connection and select properties, then select "advanced" and make sure the box under "Internet connection firewall" is unchecked.[*] Double check your external IP by visiting My IP.com and make sure this is the same as the one you're telling people.
[*] Double check your Hosting PC is still using the IP of 192.168.1.101 (Launch a DOS window and type ipconfig to show the IP of that PC) if you are not using static IP's but allowing the router to assign them as sometimes they can change and the router would then be passing the game to a different PC.
DMX to enableDo you mean DMZ ? you shouldn't need to set that as it does expose your PC and with that model router the port forwarding should work.
