  1. LaCie FireWire 800 Drives and Windows XP SP2

BACKGROUND: Microsoft has made changes and improvements to the FireWire drivers built into Windows XP. This is for improved compatibility, stability, and data integrity. There are many improvements to the FireWire drivers; this interface is also called IEEE-1394 and iLink.

PROBLEM: After installing XP SP2 the performance of LaCie FireWire 800 drives will be considerably slower and probably not acceptable for most applications.

SOLUTION: LaCie have produced a Firmware update for their FireWire 800 drives

    • LaCie FW 800 Drives and Windows XP SP2 PDF readme

    • Download the LaCie XP SP2 firmware updater from HERE

  2. Can you give us some details ? EG:

    • What is the version of Ghost Recon (launch GR and look in bottom right corner for version number).

    • Which of the patches are you trying to install ?

    • Did you get your Ghost Recon CD with an MSI graphics card ?

    • Have you moved GR since you first installed it, maybe to a different drive/partition ? (the registry will still point to the original location and that is where the patch will try to install it).

    • You are using a retail version of GR from a CD and not some copy, yeah ?

    • You haven't changed the original .exe file for a "modified" one have you ?

  3. But  thing is TS has been installed many months now and now it kicks off.

Thats simply because only "this months" new virus signature update has this pattern down as a possible virus, it just shows how all the companies use/share similar signature data if they all suddenly start reporting this "old" file as infected.

  4. It's not infected with a virus, the latest virus signatures used give a false reading on this file:

    10-06-2004 Background

As of about a week ago, many users within the Teamspeak community informed us of a possible virus issue -- specifically with the "keypress.dll" file which is installed by the Teamspeak client.

    The Problem

Since we were informed of this issue the Teamspeak Team has been heavily involved in trying to determine the accuracy of this claim. After rigorous internal testing and numerous phone calls into all of the major antivirus companies including Symantec (Norton Antivirus), Network Associates (McAfee), and Trend Micro, NONE of these companies can verify NOR deny that a virus actually exists in "keypress.dll".

To the best of our collective knowledge, it is so far more likely that this is a "false positive" -- meaning that the antivirus application is finding data in keypress.dll that LOOKS like the same sort of data found in an infected file containing the Trojan "PWS-Wexd" (virus)...even though the file is most likely not infected at all.

  6. I've made a bunch of maps (not mods) that have actors, weapons etc. from other mods.

How to make a map serverside?

Just to clarify, Maps can never be serversided, everyone who plays must all have the map.

But it's only your terminology that is incorrect in this context.

In Ghost Recon a Map is the Terrain, Buildings, Tree's Etc and as Jack says what you are talking about here is missions (the .mis file) that is the scripting that is based on a map.

So long as the scripting doesn't use anything outside the standard GR/DS/IT then the mission can be serversided (IE only the host requires it).

  7. Please see the pinned subforum link at the top of this forum:

    Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising

This will re-direct you to Tactical-Elite.net where this games discussion forums are located.

All Joint Ops discussion is done over at our other website.

But in answer to your question

    3. System Requirements

    =============================================================

The Beta Demo build is not fully optimized. Because of this, the

system requirements the Beta Demo of Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising

do not necessarily represent the system requirements for the final

    release.

    Minimum:

1.4 GHz Pentium III or Athlon MP 1600 CPU

DirectX 9 compatible, AGP video card with 32 MB memory, that

supports HW-T&L (Hardware Transform & Lightning)

            Examples: GeForce2 Ultra or ATI

        256 MB RAM

1.5 GB free hard disk space

(additional space required for the Windows swap-file and

            DirectX 9.0 installation)

Internet connection via cable-modem or DSL

        16X Speed CD-ROM/DVD-ROM

DirectX 9.0 compatible sound card, speakers or headphones

        Microsoft compatible mouse

        Keyboard

    Recommended:

3.0 GHz Pentium 4 or Athlon XP 3000 CPU

DirectX 9 compatible, AGP video card with 128 MB memory, that

supports HW-T&L (Hardware Transform & Lightning)

Examples: GeForce FX 5900 or ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

512MB RAM (DDR 333 Mhz or faster)

1.5 GB free hard disk space

(additional space required for the Windows swap-file and

            DirectX 9.0 installation)

Internet connection via cable-modem or DSL

        16X Speed CD-ROM/DVD-ROM

DirectX 9.0 compatible sound card, speakers or headphones

        Microsoft compatible mouse

        Keyboard

    Supported Operating Systems:

Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, or Windows 2000..

That being said, the JO demo runs and looks fantastic for the majority of us, eg. JO Graphics

  8. If the AI backup box is greyed out, you probably have respawns on, the game wont let you have AI backup and respawns.

If you go to the tab "respawns" you need to set it so the type = None

then if you go back to the Gameplay tab you should see the AI box is now selectable.

  9. Just found an update to the Dawn 205th SS Panzer Battle mod

    It's now v1.4.2 --> Download Site

The more I read about the makers, the more it becomes apparent this is a top notch crew who really care about what their doing

the sort of thing that is regularly posted at the codemasters forum:

Guys - just to let you know, we are reading all of this, and we hear what yr saying.

Thanks for the compliment Recon5k - we aim to please! As you can tell, we're all totally rocked by Soldiers, and even more so by the massive and positive response we're getting - so this is an ongoing, long term thing for us, and all of the comments we're getting are really helpful to us and our good friends at Best Way in Ukraine - where the entire team of programmers/game designers are based.

Hi - I know a MP demo would be great - but we just don't have enough time before release! Yes, it IS that imminent!

On release you will find co-op multiplay - you and 3 of your friends can take on the missions together!

Very soon after that (and we mean soon), the versus MP will become available to download - with some other little goodies we are putting together!

We're doing things this way in order to put the final polish into MP - we have some *very* kewl features for you guys to experience!

As you probably realise, we're really committed to Soldiers on a long term basis - which means lots of exciting things to look forward to - I wish I could tell you more... but I can't just yet!

Soldiers: Heroes of World War II

I am soooo getting this game

  10. Those mods are great fun, rolling around in the Tiger annihilating the enemy forces and demolishing the town is especially addictive :D

Just been reading about Multiplayer in the full game:

The co-op will allow 4 players to play (each person controlling one soldier)

The Vs Multiplayer once out will allow up to 16 people to play online.

Game modes should be something like this from what I´ve been told:

    -Cooperative

    -Assault

    -Combat

    -Fort Seizure

    -King of the Hill

    -Capture the Flag

    -Sniper Tag

    -Kill the VIP

    :drool::drool:

definitely another game to add to my "must get" list

  11. OK, check this link:

    European State Army

    Patriot

wow, already 2 mods out for the demo. Great link Patriot,

This basic mod for the Soldiers: Heroes of World War II Demo v0.1.5 changes a few basic variables and adds a few new things to change the overall gameplay feel of the Demo itself. This mod has a few tweaks and additions to

spice up the gameplay and add for a slightly more vibrant gameplay experience.

    Instructions:

Unzip this into your Soldiers directory or the default directory located here:

    C:\Program Files\Codemasters\Soldiers - Heroes of World War II Demo\Resource

If you did this correctly you should see new files located in the resource folder. This mod will not over write any data unless you have previous files located in the resources folder.

    Story and Features:

The player has to evac the wounded Colonel with the important Intel and defend the outpost from the 205th SS Panzer Division that is heading through that part of town. Previous fire fights between standard German infantry and the Allies holding that position made it clear to the German High Command that more serious soldiers would be needed to dig out the entrenched Allies.

    What's Changed:

    - Time is set to the morning of April 22nd, 1944

    - Starting Soldiers have a slightly different inventory

    - Player begins with M4A3 tank on Easy and M4A2 on Normal or Hard

    - Ammo Boxes have had their inventories modified slightly and a few new toys added =)

    - Swapped out a few sandbag bunkers

    - Mission text has been modified to fit with the addition of new vehicles

    - Relocated the 6-T Anti-Tank Cannon and upped ammo slightly

    - pz-6 is now a pz-6e with a new texture

    - Camera has been tweaked to allow for more zoom and panning

    What's New:

    - Added Cromwell Tank

    - Added Deuce and a Half GMC truck

    - Added Two Tripod mounted Brownings

    - Added a stolen (and out of fuel) Flak Panzer

    - Added Willys Jeep with mounted Browning

    - Added another Horch

    - Added several weapons and equipment

Note: Be sure to go through the inventory of the various vehicles, you will find lots of equipment that is rather

    useful.

    and the other:

    And I discovered another patch!!

The demo is brilliant but too hard.

    Under MIRROR 1

you can download a patched version of the map with a Tiger instead of the Sherman and with full ammo and fuel.

You must replace the old 0.mi in the game.pak with the pathname included.

The whole game.pak was too large for upload.

Currently I'm programming on a simple tool to modify the map files.

  12. still like they say, it doesn't take away from the fact that he was fighting to save his fellow soldiers.  Good for him.

it gets worse, he probably wasnt :(

The Afghan official told the AP that two groups of soldiers had drifted some distance apart during the operation in the remote Spera district of Khost province, close to the Pakistani border.

"Suddenly the sound of a mine explosion was heard somewhere between the two groups and the Americans in one group started firing," the official said, citing an account given to him by an Afghan fighter who was part of that group, not Tillman's.

"Nobody knew what it was — a mine, a remote-controlled bomb — or what was going on, or if enemy forces were firing. The situation was very confusing," the official said.

"As the result of this firing, that American was killed and three Afghan soldiers were injured. It was a misunderstanding and afterwards they realized that it was a mine that had exploded and there were no enemy forces."

U.S. military officials in Kabul had no immediate comment.

compare that to the army's initial report:

When Tillman was awarded the Silver Star, the Army said he was killed after his platoon was split into two sections for what officials called a ground assault convoy. Tillman was in charge of the lead group.

His group was safely out of the area when the trailing group came under mortar and small arms fire, according to the Army, and he ordered them to return.

"Through the firing, Tillman's voice was heard issuing fire commands to take the fight to the enemy on the dominating high ground," the award announcement said. "Only after his team engaged the well-armed enemy did it appear their fires diminished.

"As a result of his leadership and his team's efforts, the platoon trail section was able to maneuver through the ambush to positions of safety without a single casualty," the announcement said.

  13. Yeah, you would expect to switch to a "soldier view" and I'm sure a lot of people Will get caught out by that.

Oh yeah its vital, as when there are lots of enemy soldiers around the gunner is on the MG hosing em down and yet there are tank(s) approaching which are a higher threat and by taking control and switching to main gun you can get the first critical shots in and by aiming for the tracks hopefully immobilise it earlier.

Definitely, you're a bit hamstrung by the lack of fuel initially and have to fight a static fight which is not good against the heavily armoured German tanks and they take a lot of rounds to kill from the front. Hopefully with a full fuel load you could zip about and get them from the side or try for the weaker armour around the engine compartment

    . . . . . In front of a Tiger/Panther is not a good place to be :(

    :)

  14. OK, I've had a quick few tries :D was great fun got mauled by the Panther until I worked out how to blow it's tracks off

FPS isn't 1st person, what it does is by clicking the "end" key you can take control of the weapons instead of letting the crew automatically fire

so for the Sherman you click the tank and then "end" you should see a red "reticule" this is the aim point for the 75mm and if you right click it should change to black, this is the MG and when you click "left mouse" the gun will fire at that point (75mm needs a few seconds to reload).

same for your infantrymen you can override them and select where you want them to fire by using "end", moving the ret and then left click to fire there.

now I need to try the repairing, rearming and refuelling and then I've got an appointment with a rocket launcher

  15. Q. are you using the AV software that came bundled with the board ?

    Bulldog91

I didn't post this when I first figured it out, but my lag on the NIC card and my network drops were due to the PCCILLIN real time scan and firewall I installed from the Asus mobo installation disk. I was trying to play a MMPOG and the game would be extremely laggy and after a few minutes would disconnect (I assume after the game server got tired of waiting for ack's from my machine).

I turned off the PCCillin real time scan and the firewall since I have a firewall appliance and the lag disappeared. One or the other was the cause, but I did not follow up on which one.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    RC23

I got mine fixed, and it seems to have been PCCillen that did it, as soon as that was uninstalled it all worked, that and getting rid of a usb controller on the same IRQ. either of those did it. or both

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    molokini

Took out the antivirus software (PCcillin) and the Nic has worked without a problem. I knew it wasn't a network issue, but never thought the AV software would cripple the NIC. Thank you for sharing your find and saving us all that time!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    RC23

what AV software are u talkin about?

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    molokini

It came bundled with the motherboard. Don't install it!

Not sure what you want 'mate'. ;) I will do what I can, just let me know.

I think Jeffery's jokingly asking if you can get deployed to Afghanistan so you could meet up with the NZSAS and take some cool pics of them too :P
