  1. Hey John,

    I have played through the easy/short version once and have started the hard/long a few times but have yet to complete it. There are two things I've noticed so far. I went down the initial street and turned left towards the "explosives" objective (I think that's right, lol). On the first alley on the left (Destroyed car, 3 red barrels next to each other) there is a two man patrol spawn point. The second AI spawns inside the wall and then walks through it. Lol, I shot the first guy and, not seeing anyone else I turned around only to get shot in the back a second later by the wall hacker, lol. Also, at the explosives objective I believe there is a car bomb van inside. Not knowing that I planted c4 on the objective first, ran out of the building and set off the C4 just as the van exploded too. This caused my game to crash.

    Also, not having read the script for the mission first I went ahead and played it. From that perspective I had no idea that I had to destroy 3 vehicles on each level of the car garage. I think there needs to be some way of notifying the players that this is what is needed. Maybe have some text come up on the screen whenever they get close to the garage that says "Destroy 3 car bombs on each level" or something like that. It might also be good to have a sample of the explosive van at spawn which says something like "BEWARE OF CAR BOMBS" so that players who have not read the mission script (which is pretty much everyone, lol) will at least be aware of their presence.

    I'll report back after I have completed the hard/long version.

    Oh, I was wanting to ask you if you use any of the "night" AI patrols (the guys with flashlights) in your missions. I was thinking about putting the flashlight back into use in my next version of the weapons mod. However, if you don't use night AI then I may change my mind on that.

    Cheers from the guy who doesn't read the sodding instructions :rolleyes:

  2. To be honest with you, I have never really tried to fix my ping so I don't know how to help you with that. I do know that it is a connection speed problem. You may want to try to get a faster service with more bandwidth. I use DSL but a cable connection would be even better. I'm sure that your modem is an important part of the equation. But these solutions can be expensive when you are trying to justify the expense just to play a game. The best thing to do is look for servers that you have a low ping on and play on those. On the game spy screen which lists all the available servers, your ping on that server will be listed on the RHS. Look for servers on which your ping is below 200 and play on those. The reason you have different pings on different servers is because of the distance your signal has to travel. If the server is located in a city close to you then you will have a low ping. When our clan purchased our coop server we gave thought to making sure that it was in a central location relative to where everyone lived. That way everyone could have a reasonable low ping and would not experience lag.

  3. Hmm, normally you will just be kicked from a server and they will tell you why it is being done before they do it. Usually you will be kicked because your ping is too high. If you have a ping of say 300+ then your presence in the server will cause lag for all the other players. When you are on gamespy and choose a server, make sure that your ping is below 200. If it is more than that you risk being kicked and will experience lag in your gameplay.

    One thing you can do is to log into gamespy under a different name. Choose a different callsign and use the same password you had for your original callsign (its easier to remember that way). Then you will be able to get into the server you have been banned from, say who you really are and ask why you were banned. If you approach them with honest concern w/o being critical of what they did then they will probably tell you why they did what they did. Remember, a little courtesy/respect goes a long way.

    Hope that helps.

  4. The M99 is sniper kit #3. Underneath the pictures of the different types of Ghosts/Rebels there are left/right arrows that you can click on to cycle through the weapon kits. There are only 3 sniper kits. I believe there are 12 rifleman kits, 6 demolitions kits and so on.

    Yeah it's scary that people can be that accurate so far away but it can be done with practice (and help from a real fast gaming system/computer). Real good equipment gives you a HUGE advantage.

    As far as the multiple hits are concerned it is probably lag on the server. You hit them more than enough times to kill them but the server lags and doesn't register their death right away so it looks like they have super armor on. Happens all the time. You can check to see if you killed them by pushing the "TAB" button after you've died. The screen will show you who killed you "You were killed by TAW_Rahnman", then hold the tab key and check the list to see if the have "Dead" after their name ...... " TAW_Rahnman dead". So the bottom line is that you traded deaths but you didn't actually see the person fall.

    You have to run in the game but I find it best to run for a short distance and then stop and listen for movement. Don't be in a hurry to get to your favorite spot. Work your way around by learning where all the spots are where people like to hole up and check all of them systematically as you move around. Make sure you have a good set of headphones on and the volume as loud as you can have it comfortably. Being able to hear someone coming, from where they are coming, and how close they are is critical to survival and is how other players know that you are close by. Be still if you want to be sneaky! If you hear someone running then jump out of cover and nail them, you will probably get the "drop" on them.

  5. Well, I can't help you with the gaming mouse. I don't use macro's at all and I'm not sure they will help you. There is one trick that I know of that you can do. If you are running and don't have your gun up you can right click (zoom) anyway and when you stop running and your gun comes up it will be zoomed in automatically. I use shortcut keys to change weapons. Turning around and aiming are done with the mouse. I doubt you can assign a macro to help you aim. Even if it were possible it would probably be considered cheating.

    As far as the climbing rocks and mountains are concerned, Everyone can do it if they know how. The real question is "did the game designers intend for you to be able to access this area?" If the answer is an obvious "No" then that is called "glitching". Many people have found "pathways" which the designers did not intend to be there which they can use to get to advantageous locations. What counts as a glitch is somewhat debatable but most experiences players know what it is commonly acceptable to do or not do. You can discover how to get to certain areas by watching people on deathcam. I like to do that to discover what others like to do and what strategies they adopt, but every once in a while I have an "I didn't know you could do that" moment which is very instructive.

    If someone is shooting at you from on top of a mountain by spawn in the "nowhere" map then they are glitching and I would mention it through the ingame communications bar and it will probably be taken care of by an admin.

  6. Hi Bob,

    I was able to complete the mission without any crashes or problems. I noticed that you placed a few more AI in the mission. I counted 75 kills by the end. In my opinion you probably need to double that amount to make this a mission that a squad could play. I think that an excellent place to put more AI would be at the end after you have completed the Ontivaros objective and are trying to leave his palace. By that time he has called in reinforcements and they are converging on his palace ........ and so on. You could also have some more random patrols in the streets and make the objectives a little more difficult by placing more patrols farther away from the actual objective. I like your choice of sniper spots. I got hit by them quite a few times.

    There was one sniper that I couldn't hit though. He was at ADAT C on a balcony of the building to the East and shooting from behind a railing. I was not able to shoot him through the railing but he was able to get me (now that's not very fair). Another thing I noticed was that at the Ontiveras objective the patrols just sat there. I think they need to move away from their spawn location and actually try to engage the Ghosts in an attempt the buy Ontiveras more time to escape. I also think that the extraction message needs to be changed to something other than "Game Over" such as "This ain't over yet Ontiveras" or some such thing.

    Overall, nicely done! With a few more additions this should be ready to go!

    Cheers,

    Rahn

  7. I know for me it took a lot of time to relax w/o getting nervous. When you get nervous it is difficult to draw a bead on people because your mouse hand shakes the sights around. Over time you will relax and be able to keep on target. After a while you can try for headshots. This is a game of skill and it takes a while to get good at it. You will start to improve when you can relax and stay calm.

    The camera that they are holding up is actually what it looks like when they are about to throw a grenade.

  8. No, there is no kit with a sniper rifle and a G36. However, it is likely that he picked the Assault 1 kit to begin with and then picked up a sniper rifle laying on the ground sometime after he spawned. That would give him everything that you mentioned. That is completely legal. Taking a shot with the M99 and then ducking behind a fence to reload is typical of the type of tactics you would have to employ with the M99. You get one shot and then have to reload. All 3 of the sniper weapons are slow zooming in.

    You will always have 2 weapons when you spawn in, a primary and a secondary. The secondary is usually a handgun, but it can be very useful at close quarters. Many people are very good with it. I usually access it by hitting the #3 key. Many of the assault kits have a more powerful secondary weapon such as a G36 compact, M8 compact, or MP5SD/MP4. Assault kit 1 has the G36C and it can be very helpful when you run out of ammo. I access it by using the #2 key. I also turn off the "automatic reload" option so that if the gun runs out of ammo it DOES NOT automatically reload. I would rather reload manually by pushing the "R" key. The reason I do this is because there are many times when you have an enemy close by and you run out of ammo. If you reload at that point it takes way too long and you will likely get killed. It is much better to switch to a secondary weapon (with a full clip) and use it until the danger has passed. Don't underestimate the value of a secondary weapon. Practice switching quickly between your primary (#1 key) and your secondary (#2 or #3 key).

  9. I don't know anything about macro's. But I do know that you can assign the different buttons on your mouse to do different things. I use the buttons on the side for grenade and smoke grenade. It is very helpful to not have to use the "f" key and mouse wheel to select these items. You just hit the button and you have what you need. It definitely gives an advantage.

  10. Hey John,

    I tried out Manosos and had no issues to report. Every objective went off without a hitch. Very nicely done! Can't wait until the next one. :rocky: Oh yeah, and no mysterious friends taking out my enemies for me. :thumbsup: I still don't know what that was all about. I let my health get real low and couldn't reproduce it. So I still don't know what causes it. Oh well ........

  11. Most guns have recoil associated with them. Another great thing about the iron sight MRC is that it has very little recoil, allowing you to score multiple hits rather quickly. The gun is a little underpowered compared to other weapons. It usually takes 3 shots (sometimes 4) to kill. But is it not extremely underpowered as I have found that most other guns can take 3 shots also. The Scar-H, M14 and MSG90 take 2 and the M99 takes 1. So the MRC is the gun to start with. Oh, ANY weapon will kill in one shot if you hit them in the head.

    As far as being able to see lots of enemy on deathcam, I have noticed that phenomenon as well. I think it has more to do with the fact that you are not scoping in at all and the whole screen is visible all the time. Also, you are more relaxed and able to take in more. When you are actually playing it is easy to develop tunnel vision.

  12. Well, I have a Lachesis Razor. It goes all the way up the 4,000 dpi (a standard mouse is set at about 400). I bought without really knowing what I needed so I wound up getting way more than I needed. I typically keep it set at about 1500 dpi. (I think dpi is the correct term, but maybe not). Any more than that and the fast movement on the screen makes me sick. It is NOT a wireless mouse, which I think is best.

    The gun kit that almost everyone uses is "Assault 1" which has the iron sight MRC, the G36 compact secondary, a grenade and a smoke grenade. It's the best gun for TDM style play. It is perfectly accurate at long distance and the iron sights allow you to see a large part of the environment even when scoped in. Clips have 50 rounds which allows you to "pray and spray" effectively. The only drawback is that it can be difficult to hit people at a distance. Even so, with a little bit of practice you can get really good at it.

  13. Yeah, you can change your speed of movement by changing files and overriding the bundle files through the local file. I sometimes use this when testing out new coop missions for John. It makes it real easy to skirt by AI and get to any trouble spots on the map. Doing this will not get past the games' anti-cheat, however. All the good TDM servers have the anti-cheat turned to keep this type of cheating from occurring. There are ways to get past the anti-cheat (obviously), but this method is not one of them. Honestly, I don't really know how hackers get past the anti-cheat. I've never tried to learn, it's more fun to whip up on hackers than it is to hack with them! :thumbsup:

  14. Your nemesis probably had a gaming mouse. With these you can adjust the sensitivity of the mouse so that a slight movement will move the screen drastically. You can easily do a full 360 with very little movement. There is nothing illegal about having good equipment.

    If you suspect that someone is cheating then there are other things that you can do. One of the best things is to watch them on "deathcam". If they are glitching or have a speed hack/aimbot then you will probably be able to tell. Wall hacks are pretty difficult to spot even on deathcam. To get on deathcam you will usually have to leave the server and then log back in. When you get in pick the team the "offender" is on (push the "tab" button to see which team that is) and then DO NOT PICK A WEAPON. You will have to wait about 90 seconds (usually) until time runs out for you to get in game. At that point you will see the "deathcam" icon appear in the lower RHS of your screen. Click on it and you will be able to watch the game through the eyes of the other players. Use you left/right mouse button to scroll between the various players until you find the one you want to watch and then see what he is doing. It could be that he is not cheating at all but this is your best chance to find out. Deathcam is also one of the best ways to learn how to play the game. By watching other players you can see what they do and the spots that they go to. You can get acquainted with a map very quickly by doing this.

    Also, you could just switch teams and follow him around. When you die click the "team selection" button on the lower RHS and quickly pick your weapon before the respawn time runs out. You should then be on the other team.

    Hope that helps,

    Rahn

  15. Spik@,

    Glad to hear it! You will not need the coop_ranks.xml unless you decide to add more kits.

    Yes there are people out there who still make missions. JohnTC02 is the most active and is an administrator on this site.

    Artillery is controlled by the mission script and is not under the control of the player ........ too bad ...... would be cool. You can call in an artillery strike in campaign mode. It would be great to be able to do that in coop but that would be a question for John.

    If you can't see the weapon in another players hands then it sounds like you have a problem with your 3rd person textures. Maybe you still have a problem with the patch. Don't really know how to help you there except to say you could try uninstalling/reinstalling the game and then install the patch, put your mods back in and see what happens.

  16. The ping tells you how good your connection is to the server. If you have a high ping (anything over 200) you will probably experience some lag in game play because of the bad connection speed. If a person has a "0" ping it means that they are hosting the server and their connection speed is essentially 0 or "instant". They will have a huge advantage in speed. I usually look for servers which I can have a low ping on (150 or lower). Your quality of game play will be much better. It is also a good idea to set your graphics card settings and in game graphics settings pretty low. That will give your processor more memory to work with and will reduce lag.

    Hope that helps,

    Rahn

  17. Do you mean the color of the weapons themselves or the color of the holographic weaponsight?

    It is possible to do both. In order to change the color of the weapons you have have the ability to create new "skins" for them using the correct software.

    Changing the reticle color of the holographic weapon sight is very easy.

    If you want to create weapons then you will need 3dsmax7. Later versions are not compatible with the game. If you find a cheap copy somewhere let me know. :thumbsup:

  18. <xdefine name="coop_kit_support_1()">

    <weapon_unit name="saw" clips="4" gui_slot="1"/>

    <weapon_unit name="m8_compact" clips="4" gui_slot="2"/>

    <weapon_unit name="mk45" clips="4" gui_slot="3"/>

    <weapon_unit name="m61_thrower" clips="6" gui_slot="4"/>

    <weapon_unit name="m32" clips="12" gui_slot="9"/>

    </xdefine>

    The problem with this code is that you have used 2 primary weapons which the game will not accept. Both the SAW and M32 are designated as "primary" weapons. You will have to choose one or the other. You can also choose to create another version of the M32 and designate it as an "extra" weapon (like the predator) and use it here, but that would take a lot of explanation.

    As far as the "no support kit #5" error is concerned you most likely have a syntax error in "coop_templates" file. Try using "xml marker" to look for errors. Closing tags are the most common. If that fails then it may be best just to start fresh with a "clean" coop_templates and copy/paste your kits into this new file. I would just do a few kits at a time and then run the mod to see if it works. When you get an error then you know it has to be with one of the few kits you just changed. It's tedious but it works.

    The changes that Brettzie mentioned to the latter half of the coop_templates xml and the coop_ranks xml are only necessary if you try to add or subtract from the actual number of kits. For example, the "Rifleman" class has 12 kits. As long as you don't try to change that number to 13 or more (or 11 or less) then there is no need to mess with those other xml files. If you want to add kits, then simply follow his instructions above. It is not very difficult.

    As far as bringing in the shotgun is concerned, it is possible but requires a lot of explanation. I was able to accomplish it (not the shotgun, but other Brettzie/Snowfella weapons) but it took a LOT of trial and error. You have to import any file (in Brettzie's mod) that even looks like it has anything to do with the shotgun and then read every file to see if it makes mention of the shotgun and then edit a "clean" copy (to include in your mod) to contain the necessary information. Then there are some files that are actually used for other weapons which Brettzie will make use of for multiple weapons. If you don't have those files in then the weapon still will not work ........ Like I said, VERY tedious. You really have to have a solid understanding of what EVERY file contains and is used for. Even then it is easy to miss something. Study hard .........

    Hope that helps,

    Cheers,

    Rahn

  19. That is probably somebody "glitching". They have found a way to get "off map" and sneak around to your spawn. From this point they can get "inside" one of the buildings and poke their gun through the wall and shoot you indiscriminately. You can't shoot through the wall they are behind unless you happen to hit their hand when it pokes through the wall when they shoot. Either that or they can get "below" the map where they are on a floor beneath the ground and can shoot up through the ground and hit you. It's a whole lot of fun for them and very infuriating for you. Most reputable servers don't tolerate this type of stupidity and will ban anyone who does it. If this were to happen to me I would just leave the server and play somewhere else. Eventually this person will be "taken care of" by being banned from the servers.

    As far as a good place to have these discussions ........ there is none better than here. Just start a new discussion thread and there are always people here to help you out.

    Cheers,

    TAW_Rahnman
