depends on if it's an amd or not really
i got doom last week and after many hours and changes of pants due to it being so damn scary
i beat it, not much replay value IMO and really it's just the original doom but with the best graphics engine about today. there will be some sweet mods for it i'm sure -
that's not political correctnes, it's being pedantic which i am very and love being so
i once spent an entire lesson picking up on mistakes a newly qualified teacher made and telling them about it, they nearly went insane

the only thing that annoys me is that the knife doesn't accually do anything, it's just there to look cool. anything else and the game it's current age rating, i can understand that but it would be good to have it used

bear in mind that nvidia were on the inside during the developement of doom3 and it was made to run better on nvidia's cards and tech where as ati were on the inside for hl2's dev so i'm betting hl2 based benchmarks will show the reverse of the doom3 ones

the saving from moding down to an 80gb hdd is only about $15 at most

you don't need a course to make a puter, it's just like really expensive lego take a look at the pinned thread in this forum about how to do it.
also i'd take an x800 over a GF6800

accually the new top of the line p4's run hotter than amd's and you must have been running with either a cheap ass heat sink and fan or oene ment for a lower model of cpu for it to need replacing every 3 months
us pc users think macs are crap (other than for the odd select application), we just know we're in the right camp and have the stats to prove it so we don't need to mouth off about it all the time

till you realize it's a mac and you have an over whelming urge to take a sledge hammer to it
back on topic, there's loads of laptop makes just find one with a good spec for a decent price then go do some resaeach on the company to see what they're like

the thing with doom 3 is while most games have been made to be back compatable with old tech doom 3 has been mafe future compatable and even the best gpu's around today can't run it at the the top settings so wether this will mean it won't run on old cards is anyone's guess
