  1. Actually you install DS and IT into GR. They actually install into the mod folder and are activated that way. You should really check out the Games Room and grab the mods listed in the Weekend Games thread then join me online when I have the server up, you will learn lots by playing with us. :)

Ah, ok... Yea I will try and join up once I get the full game, the delivery is taking more time then I had hoped for...

I guess you run TS or Ventrilo for coms?

  2. This is the only nick I go by and I haven't flown online, yet. I need to pick up iL2: 1946 yet.

1946 is worth the money in any case, it's nice to have the entire series on one disc...

Btw, I got my gaming computer fixed and that means I'll be reinstalling GR and restarting my campaign... Just wondering, can I install DS and IT from the gold edition over the standard game?

Oh, and this time I'm thinking about trying "Dead is dead" and no in-mission saves...

    THAT should be a challenge...

  3. Gee, never meant to write a review, I just got carried away... :) Wow, thanks for the nice responses. It shows how dedicated you guys are to the game if reading a post like this make s you want to play it after all these years.

GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun) aka 'Jimpy'. That is, with the British pronunciation on the 'j'.

Oops, yea it's GPMG, my bad. I looked it up a little and the mg I'm referring to is also designated L7 in the British army.

It just never ceases to amaze me. A 6 year old game and it still gets reviews like that.

Just think about it. (UBI, hope your paying attention here) I have never come accross a game that has had the following or community that Ghost Recon has and still does. (UBI ! nudge nudge, wink wink, know what I mean)

Weeeell... I come from one 0:) Another UBI title has this kind of cult following... Il-2, a simply amazing ww2 air combat simulator. Every year new guys gives it a go for the first time and then goes to the first forum they can find an writes a post like this...

I think binocs were added as standard equipment somewhere along the line.

In the 1.4 version I have them mapped as 'L'. I can't remember if that is default or not.

DOH! And here I was looking all over the place for them when they were on my nose the whole time...

Thanks again guys, seems like I stumbled upon a great game and a great community...

  4. Hey Zone! I'm also very new to this game and I'm experiencing the same problems as you are... My computer isn't really a gaming computer so I had to scale down the graphics a bit to make it run smoothly... The biggest fps killers seem to be landscape and tree detail since there's so much of them on the screen... Try turning them down a notch and see if that helps... Shadows can also be a bummer... If it doesn't help try changing your resolution and color depth...

To save while playing just hit escape and click "save game" I haven't found a quick save but this works for me...

To bind keys you can go to "options" "controls" the click the function you want to bind a key to and then click "map key" now just press the button you want to use and Tadaa!

    Hope this helps.

  5. Hey thanks for the welcome everyone!

I will have a look at mods and campaigns and stuff once I finish the out-of-box campaign.

I've gotten some more hours of gameplay now and I just thought I'd share my thoughts and impressions... You've probably seen this kind of post a thousand times before but be nice, I'm a noob :hehe:

    # It's hard!

    # It's good!

    # In my opinion it's still a pretty good looking game. Maybe it's the excellent animations that makes for this 'cause it can't be the graphics, at least not on my computer... I just love the way the ghosts move around the battlefield and the death animations are great too. The landscapes and map designs are also impressive, very realistic.

    # The weapons seem realistic enough and the sounds are really good. I like the fact that weapons are just as deadly as they are irl, even if it makes firefights extremely lethal, it keeps me on my toes and forces me to plan every move. One little sidenote though... As in most fps games the accuracy of mgs feels a little too poor... Now I haven't fired the SAW in real life but the one I have fired, the swedish KSP58 (I think the British call it MPMG not sure but I know SAS used it) is more accurate than that, especially when in the hands of an experienced soldier. But It's nothing I can't live with... I have still managed to score some nice kills with it...

    # The missions seems to be very well put together, there's a red line running through them just like in Operation Flashpoint. Maybe not as personal as in that campaign but they feel more complex and it feels like there is a little more to them...

    # I'm not sure what I think of the specialists though... Imo a better reward would be to unlock the specialists weapon, not millions of them but just one to give to one of your regular soldiers. The point of keeping your guys alive and give them more skills gets kind of lost when you get a more skilled one with superior equipment if you finish an extra objective that usually isn't that hard anyway...

    # The FIREFIGHTS!! w00t So awesome, it's so rewarding planning an ambush or assault and then take a deep breath, give the final orders and watch it all develop as planned... Doesn't happen too often to me right now but when it does... Had some really good moments on Black needle... Assaulting the crossroads objective accompanied by the wicked chatter of a SAW to my right and the distinctive cracks of an M24 to my left... Aaaah, pure gaming magic... They also feel very personal and so very very dangerous... Another great moment was also on Black needle. Egressing with one of my squads from the main objective when my threat indicator sudenly burst to life. Hit the deck with my lead squad just as bullets start whizzing over my head. A second later BAM and "Good bye" My sniper! He was positioned to cover the lead teams blind spot! It turned out there was a major Russian patrol heading my way but as soon as the red light started flashing or I heard the cacker of an AK47 he would drop them... I just kept my head down in the bushes and listened to the sounds of a very unfair battle... He got them all eventually

    # The AI isn't too shabby either... The bad guys put up some pretty good resistance and the ghosts really try their hardest not to disappoint me... One little thing Ive noticed though. When I set up a team to cover an area I know the enemy will appear in, team set to hold and suppress, I would believe that my teams would be more prepared than the enemies walking into the firing line. Now it seems as if they both react at the same time, sometimes the tangos open up before my ambushing teams and with some pretty accurate fire as well... Oh well, just a beauty mark I guess...

    # Did I mention that it is hard?

#Did I mention that it is good?

    # Am I completely wrong or shouldn't I be able to pick binoculars as equipment? My assault team could really use one...

Meh, long post but it's just me being impressed... :)

So once again, thanks for the warm welcome and see ya!

  6. Lol! Oh oh... Goodbye life and free time... That editor looks immense.

Better give my gf a ring... 0:)

Yea the mod by Wolfsong. So he did? Kewl. Never tried GRAW... I run a not-so-hot laptop so It's a little out of my league... Still, have to say I'm really pleased I picked this up. It really is immersive, just love sneaking around and placing covering fire and popping them with the M4. I guess it becomes even better with mods..

  7. Hey thanks! :)

Yea I think it's the gold edition I ordered, not sure... Was kind of hard to find a store that actually had any copies left... Hm, so the UBI game service is still active? I used to play Il-2 a lot online and that place died a long time ago in that community... It's worth a look though, I just hope this is a noob friendly community...

On the bright side though, just finished the "Stone bell" mission... Phew, that was a tough one... They were everywhere! But what a blast... Man, I'm getting hooked...

Looked up some of the mods listed in the forums here and I was impressed with the reviews, sounds like top stuff. The Swedish army mod really caught my eye and is a sure download once I get DS and TI, I've been in the Swedish army so that'll bring some memories for sure... :rocky:

    Anyway, thanks again!

  8. Hi! Bought the game today when I found for sale in a convenience store. Remembered playing it at a friends a lot of years ago and I liked it then so what the heck... A couple of hours later I just can't seem to get enough of it... WOW! It is really really good... I used to play OPF a lot and kind of missed out on this beauty. Too bad it's only GR but I ordered the complete edition a couple of minutes ago and will receive it after the weekend... If I can go out to the mailbox whitout getting shot at by those pesky rebels...

    Just got some qustions...

#1 There are 4 patches right? Think I got them all but I just want to make sure...

#2 Is there any online action going on? Been playing some BF2 lately but that just can't seem to compare... I like realism... 0:) I guess I need both DS and It to play online but they're on the way...

Oh, great site btw! Very useful, got the patches (I think) and a lot of helpful info...

    Great work.

    Well, see ya!

  9. Bought the game today so naturally I haven't made that many kills yet but I made a couple of ones I'm pretty proud of.

First is on the first mission of the first campaign. I'm moving in on the tent camp objective and have positioned my teams and are ready to strike. My sniper is covering the camp from a bush between two cliffs just to the west of the camp and my support team, rifleman and mg, is covering the camp from a small hill to the nw. The plan was to suppress the baddies with these two teams while my assault team, rifleman rifleman demo, would attack from the south. Just after I gave the weapons free and advance orders I decided to launch an M203 round into the camp to warm them up a bit... BOOOM! Hit the campfire and 5 tangos got roasted... Objective completed... Was almost disappointing after all that planning...

Second was later in that same map. The assault team was moving with the colonel so I kept them back a little to keep him safe. All teams was on the second plateau and my threat indicator was pointing s and se so I assumed there would be tangos below the cliffs... I sneaked my sniper up on the ledge and had him scanning the area below... Sure enough, he spots a two man patrol sweeping the area below... I don't wan't to engage them with my lone sniper so I take control of my mg and sneaks him up beside the sniper... Then I just lay there and observe the enemies and scan for possible reinforcements.. Once I'm satisfied there aren't any other threat nearby I wait for the two to get as close as possible to each other before I open up with the SAW... BRADABAM! 5 shots at appr 75 mtrs range and they both go down!! w00t

Damn I'm really glad I bought this game!
