I have moved from GR/GRAW to Arma since nov 2007.
If you want a pure open sandbox, to make and do as you please with a learning curve, an SP campaign that realy should be a "demo" than a solid SP campaign like GR/GRAW and other games, and is simply a box of lego to expand on with numerous mods to fiddle and tweak with ... and you liked that feel you got from GR then its for you.
If you like a bit more straight forward tacitcal movement and more stripped down in terms of open ended (lego half built) so you can jump in and go no worries then maybe its not.

Hey D.S see your still on the case then

Well im sure all knew where I came from on all this, still makes me laugh the BS rolls on and the nitpick left/right keep a clashin' .. perfect. Meanwhile the world turns to ###### as we debate like trained chimps.

-
Is this for real!? Listen carefully to the audio BTW.
PS - hello GR.net crew its been a while

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHA

Thats one of the funniest things ive seen for a while. Dear me, yet another media brainwashed slave down the tubes

-
Thats actually technically incorrect.
Allow me to explain clearly :
The Sun is in fact, holographic in nature. The actual sunlight "rays" that we see and experience here on earth once its passed & filtered through the earths ionosphere are no more than energy frequencies. We decode these frequencies and perceive them as "Light" or "Heat" ... and ........ well ...
....... basicly,
........ Its the moon farting
. EVERYONE knows that. -
Star Stories after the Cruise one did become crap thats for sure. Take That & Cruise episodes were the strongest ones.
Saxondale, ah, now thats one has people split in two. I love it personally, subtle humor in places which works great. Others don't see that and think it should be Allan Partridge belly laughs, which it isn't and turn it off.
I love the slow burning anger management side, mixed with the oldskool rocker slang to keep in with the kids.
Also ... Avey, isnt that hijacking a thread???

-
Well, thats true and thats the one thing thats in the back of my mind at least.
I will skulk the mod threads and see what comes for a few months and then see I think.

I have to say that any military type game in this day and age that has a 'realism' label to follow, and a trailing history direct from a game such as [GR] should be as open ended as possible in my book.
To be happy with what it is, and it not being what it was, and what it WAS = open ended, and we are in 2007 and [GR] was 2001 .. well, speaks for itself really.
Seems allot put up with it being more linear, but that is clear it only goes so far.
I get a new rig soon, and even though I thought I would get this once I had a rig to play it smooth, its nearing the time to purchase the rig and I haven't thought about buying GRAW2 really

Finally the Tom Cruise episode is up on youtube .... yeeeeeeeeeeeahhhhhhhh wahooooooooooooooooooooo!! (that last part is a Tom impression ... well, just watch it and you will get the idea)

EDIT : Oops, I overlooked the fact that it contains bad language, so I removed the direct links. If you want to see it (3 parts) simply goto youtube.com and search for "Star Stories - Tom Cruise"
This was the funniest one, (maybe this should be moved to the humour section?)

Dr. Bruce Liptons - "Biology Of Belief" & along side, "Cash" - Johny Cash Autobio
-
Ah, ok great cant wait to fire this up when my rig arrives

I have been pre watching some various tactical videos and after wading through piles of "highlights" with rock music slapped all over them
I managed to finr these lovely bunch.http://video.google.co.uk/videosearch?q=shack+tactical
Im not suggesting for a moment regulars dont know about them, but they are the best ive found without music and proper tactical play. The 45 min one was the best.

Ive purchased ARMA but its sat here ready to install on my new rig end of this month (cant wait!)

I need to clarify, EU DVD = 1.04 (i think) out of the box, so from that point (correct me if im wrong) I install
1. 1.05 EU DVD version
then ..
2. 1.08 EU DVD version
then ..
3. 1.08 Hotfix
Is this correct?
Also ... ARMA Combat Operation .. is this simply ARMA as europe has it but its just badged with that title for US release .. basicly Americas copy of ARMA ?
I assume the only expansion required/avaiable if its out is Queens Gambit.

Ok ... I just want simple clarification (with some dumb things thrown in so excuse me) :
If I get Vista 32bit:
1) From what ive seen more programs support it (IE: Zonealarm doesn't support 64bit Vista for one example)
2) I will have a 4 gig limit (about 3.3 gig available rest is upper memory reserved apparently)
.... stupid time :
64 bit O/S is not tied to 64 bit CPU so I HAVE to have it, or is it? I mean with athlon 2x 64bit CPU if I get 32bit Vista OS its still fine but 64 bit programs I wouldn't be able to run (whenever they arrive) right?
I think what im trying to get to is ... 32bit O.S on 64 bit chips is fine as of now with current apps and games but to run at its full 'potential' on a 64 bit program I would need 64bit O.S. So ... its not at this time a killer or wrong to just get 32bit vista over 64bit?
Is my logic correct?
Answers on a postcard please

Sorry to hear about your granddad, grand parents rule especially ones with a sweet tooth (the sweet drawer anyone?
).Sadly on my fathers side they passed away and on my mothers side my grandma (or "mum mum") is not doing too great.
To expect certain friends to be around is sometimes a tricky one, especially with grandparents. I was really really close to my grandma and I was at school when she died. Not many I knew at the time had that same thing happen, what was odd was most people don't think much about it becuase its "old" grandparents. You can be close to them as your direct mum & dad but people do see grandparents different. It was if I shouldn't have been that upset ... "its only your grandparents" ?
I did find that odd when I was younger. Anyway mate for what its worth when the times comes he will be away from the physical pain and if nothing else thats something to value or take from it, aswell as your memories (they don't go anywhere they stay around, like an old friend *smokes pipe*
).Going for a hike .... nice one
.. there is nothing BETTER in a situation to burn off feelings or bottled up emotion than walking it off. Id say its on par with a good chat with a friend in terms of clearing your head. Its not an easy thing for anyone to deal with no matter who it is in the family, best of luck mate ... and take the positives from it, cups never half empty

I suspect your grandad would say that.

No problem.
Its still a keeper as so far nothing is touching the physics on this SIM

Bobs track builder is still in progress and although only 1 track has been created, once bobs trak builder has been developed further (and is still) soon custom made tracks will be available. Couple that with continuing new cars with matching physics and setups, plus plenty of skins and very good sound mods, im not uninstalling it for a long while.
EDIT : Ive only just spotted your link to this in the MCrae Dirt thread ... yes, its going to be great soon!
I cant wait for some more dense UK woodland stages, with some nice overgrowth and High tree line overgowing areas ... nice intense rallying.

Gearing up to reinstall software in the correct order is like a small version of moving house ... so much crap to remember to back up and steps to take in the right order! LOL.
I think once Im done after a loooong day of getting it back and working as my current machine, I will finaly be able to install my copy (gathering dust ATM) of Armed Assault to celebrate with a few cool beers and crack the setting up

-
Oh, I see, these people compare 14 year old children and pregnant woman to pigs!!
That really is the mindset your dealing with here, it really is
. -
I will be ordering mine at the end of this month so if you get it running before then post back or PM me with your take on it with games etc, id still be interested to here especially as the main parts are the same

Now police are told they can use Taser guns on childrenLooky here (UK) ... my, my, how things continue on the pre-set course.

The media have been highlighting loads of under age crime in UK at the moment, they focus a spate of things like this to get a public reaction, which in-turn makes things like this look like a great idea, that is, until, it bleeds into scenarios not directly related. Like .... ummm ... not showing ID or ANY kid resisting.
I posted in this thread because I though it was VERY relevant.
Notice the hard line approach to get kids used to this, sorry to say but its about time people (parents especially) start to connecting the dots here, and a bit quicker. Its always sold as a fix, but theres a bigger picture to be looked at thats for sure.

Crowman ... I get you know cheers

Swap File & Swap Drive confused me at first. Ok I will edit XP's settings and set swap to my second drive. The only question that spins off from this is :
Whats the naming convention for Vistas swap file? IE: if XP & Vista's swap file is set to my second drive will they both sit together as 2 separate files happy, or will each O.S see each others on start up and remove in turn without a problem or with a problem?
Realistically for the initial stages Vista's swap file can be local because It wont be my hardcore working partition just test space really, just interested in that scenario they like each other. This is of course based on the fact that Vista still works in this manner like XP or has it changed in the swap file arena? (I really haven't taken time to bother looking into Vista so far).
(Except when I spend a weekend at the beach with no net access)
To be honest I feel a beach weekend is time to escape the digital realm

Also @ Kamakazi ... Toms Hardware link was great, loving the ease to compare, deffo firm bookmark. To have a Core Duo with 8800 GTX (rather than my GTS) adds a few too many UK pounds out the range of what Ive got as a budget (that someone else has set). It would be real nice to have that unit, but the comparisons still show that even on the setup I will get it will be in the realms of "flying", it was useful to see what framerates and render times the CPU & GPU will pull off from this site so im happy I think now. Still room to upgrade certain parts later thats the key thing.
-
Just to clarify then Crowman (BTW : Hello mate) ...
Stick my Western Digital in as secondary and My Seagate as Master ... install XP Pro on Master and the install Vista on secondary, right?
IE:
DRIVE 1 : partition 1 (XP) Other Partition (rest of space = data)
DRIVE 2 : partition 1 (vista) Other Partition (rest of space = data)
Its the "Swap Drive" bit im confusing things with. Im not sure what you mean by "make much difference" ... the only thing is just to have both OS's running ... are you referring to just the physical drive issue or something else? If this way helps to keep the drive in good condition and good speed access then I will do that.
Also if you make a ghost image of a 500Gig drive you dont actually make a 500Gig image, it only makes an image of data on that drive so my ghost image of windows xp with minimal stuff on it comes in at just over 2.5Gig.
Ok cool, dumb of me to think it would image unused drive sectors/space ...
... thats a relief because I do like to Ghost me drives!Kamakazi - Cheers for link.
PS ... as regards having 2 O/S's on separate drives ... anyone got a decent web link to a step by step of that procedure (I will google but any direct decent ones would be great).
Charlie Sheen Publicly Requests Meeting With Obama
in "Off Topic" Posts

I love this post
.
Lets say Charlie is a bandwaggon jumper, and lets say his "self promoting". Ok ... fair enough.
Lets say that "truthers" are mentalists and that you cant take what any of them say with very seriously ... ok, fair enough.
Lets say that Obama is completely right in ignoring this truther rubbish and did so very well in that interview, ok, fair enough.
Whats left?
Well, lets look at the "official story people" ... who are the other side fo the "truthers". What exactly do they have thats so concrete that they are absolutely correct without question? They watched TV ... saw buildings fall, got told "TEL-A-VISION" terror info and simply accepted it all without question exactly as they saw it and exactly how the media showed it, and who can blame anyone, thats the sources of information at the time.
And THATS the important part .... without question & sources of information at the time .... there should never be a time that you should become lazy minded and simply accept everything as-is. Its realy as simple as that and thats any subject. Because no matter what there is always a system in place to take advantage of that mindset, never get too comfortable with an un questioning mind.
Its not about "charlie" and its not about "obama" its about YOU and your grey matter. Forget the person/people and look at information, its nothing more than looking at information. If you lock it down to simply "truthers" and have a nice badge for it then its realy only game over for yourself, no one else.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion ... yes indeed I agree. The only thing to ask yourself is ... "is my opinion a well informed one overall?".
