Oh that's no good. P5B Deluxe works wo/ fix.
-
Agreed 100% on the sound. It's def more immersing going from 32 to 128, hehe. I remember using the pci lat tool w/ my original Audigy. I'd set the NIC to 64 or 32 and the sound card @ 128 so it gets more priority on the PCI bus. It def helped back then.
I'll have an Abit IP35 Pro to play w/ over the weekend and will report back as to whether or not it crackles like the DFI.
-
BIOS update fixed the crackling,
and "high" setting instead of "medium" fixed the randomly missing footsteps on arroyo...
What board/bios? Also, what card are you running? Audigy: high/64 voices, X-Fi: xtreme/128 voices. There's a very large difference in # of sounds/immersiveness subjectively playing the game last night.
no wonder with vista X86....lolSo? I'm running Vista wo/ issue in BF2142, GRAW, and the Bioshock demo...all sounded flawless w/ no crackling on an X-Fi Elite Pro w/ P5B Deluxe. It's fine w/ the right hardware...

Crackle is gone. I'm a bad tech tho, hehe. Fresh install of Vista Ultimate x86 and new board, P5B Deluxe. I know the upper end Asus boards tend to be a bit overkill, 8phase pwr, etc and I'm fairly certain that was the solution. I'll have an Abit IP35 Pro to test this weekend and will report back.
Anyway, just wanted to say that the sound has definitely improved. There's far more going on than before, I'd go as far as to say 2x the bullet fire. It's kinda stressful now.
So if you're on an older nforce board (3, 4, 5) or a mid-value intel chipset, perhaps check out one of the higher end Giga, Asus options.
Cheers,
Jod

I can't handle the constant crackle, so I run gen soft/medium.

OS? Does it happen w/ any other Advanced HD/EAX 4.0/5.0 games like BF2142/FEAR? I feel your pain bro, I couldn't do the XP install this weekend, it'll have to wait for Friday. If that doesn't help it, I've got no problems trying another motherboard just to make sure. My current board's more of a value than enthusiast. Although the P965's solid, it's an Infinity w/ 4 phase power and pretty sure it's only 4 layer board. Combined w/ my utilization of 4 drives in various RAID configs, I wouldn't be surprised if the PCI traffic just can't hang. Then again, it doesn't happen in any other game!

I hear all sorts of good stuff now that I have never heard before. Thanks GRIN.
What level quality can you select? AFAIK, Aud2 supports 64 voice, so that'd be high. Extreme ~ 128...can you select that?
EDIT: Patch did nothing for my sound...still crap.

v1.03 now recognizes my soundcard (Audigy 2 ZS w/Vista 32-bit).
Oooh! I didn't see anything in the release notes about sound, but you never know, right? I'll give this a go tonight and see if it can't fix my crackling X-Fi!

Yeah, I saw. But he mentioned trying beta drivers, which were mentioned on the blog.
As for openal:
* OpenAL32.dll version 6.14.357.22
* wrap_oal.dll version 2.1.8.1
Got em both in GRAW2 and System32. Regardless, sound ain't the only problem. I'll randomly crash out of SP w/ all sorts of errors. I'm thinking XP's where I need to be...

i tryed every thing i there is to try ill just have use generic hardware high it seems to work ok on that setting
What's your OS? Here's my specs for comparison (they're in the other thread too, but I'm game for generating traffic and attention to this problem.):
Components:
DFI P965-S stock 266 or OC 413, BIOS 613 beta
E6400 stock 2.13Ghz or OC 3.3Ghz
2x1GB G.Skill DDR2-800 CL4
8800GTX stock 575/900 or OC 621/1000
X-Fi XtremeGamer (Fatality wo/ box) or X-Fi Elite Pro (plugged in last pci slot)
2x74GB ADFD Raptors in 2 stripes (Matrix Arrays)
2x250GB Hitachi 7K250's in a mirror
Pioneer DVR 212DBK SATA
PC P&C 610 Silencer
Stacker 810 w/ lots of cooling
OS/Drivers:
Vista x86 w/ all critical updates
Intel Chipset 8.2.0.1014
Intel Matrix Storage 6.2.1.1002
Nvidia 158.24 WHQL, 162.22 WHQL, 163.11 Beta
Creative SBXF_PCDVT_LB_2_15_0002
Settings:
Creative EAX/CMSS 3D on or off, all 3 modes (enter, game, aud crea)
GRAW2 EAX on or off, X-Fi on=crackle
Vista disable sound enhancements, allow exclusive use, etc (can't remember name...)
It's a kickass game when played w/ some buds @ a LAN or online, even w/ the wacky sound, hehe.

Sound Issues? - Main thread for this problem (workaround is to set to general software/medium)
http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php...165&t=44140
I picked up an Elite Pro and there's no difference from the Fatal1ty. Gonna try XP and then a different Mobo, but it's ONLY GRAW 2 that has issues for me. FEAR and BF2142 are crackle free.
Also, that page is over a year old. Latest drivers are on SB's site.
Vista x86 2.15.0002 30 May 07
XP 2.09.0007 30 Oct 06

Updating to the latest OpenAL didn't fix it for me. Here's the link if anyone cares to try...

There's a set of open/wrap in both system32 and your graw2 folder.

Vista x86
8800GTX, well cooled
158.24WHQL = shadows
163.11BETA and 162.22WHQL = no shadows
All driver revs give me odd hitching when running. I think that's normal in a sh1tty port tho. I did have quite a bit of crashing resolved by installing the 2 new Vista perf, relia, etc patches tho...KB938194 and KB938979.

But those of you that have problems should try and set the sound to General Software as a temporary workaround.
Thank you very much for this. It is unfortunate to resort to lowering sound to medium or less voices, but as long as the crackle goes away...
FWIW, here are my system specs:

A friend of mine has virtually the same system w/ the only difference being an EVGA 680i mobo. He has X-Fi/extreme w/ no issues. Anymore assistance would be great. AFAIK, this game uses OpenAL, so need need for Alchemy, correct?

That's the last time I buy a board wo/ at least an 8phase PWM and more than 4layers on the PCB. Abit IP35 Pro/DFI Infinity P965-S OC great, but both crackle in GRAW2 and BF2142/BF2. Asus P5B Deluxe and EVGA 680i don't crackle and OC almost as well.
