  1. As AUS_Vipers weapons modder, I have to announce one more interesting feature in this mod; after a long discussion, AUS_Viper and I decided to implement a full weapon realism to this mod. What does it mean? It means that if you're playing with non-scoped weapon (a pistol or SMG) ,you have noo zoom/ magnification factor in the game.

All Steyr rifles with integral scopes will have a REAL LIFE zoom/ magnification factor of 1.5x

All Steyr rifles (and other weapons) equipped with Elcan Wildcat scope will have a REAL LIFE zoom/ magnification factor of 3.4x

SA80A1 with SUSAT scope will have a REAL LIFE zoom/ magnification factor of 4.0x

More detailed weapons list can be found on AUS_Viper's site

  2. It's done..no renders yet, though..will post some on demand...

The box mag is now a bit less wide, and it's been moved to the left and up a bit, so it now appears to be attached to the left side of the weapon, right below the feeding port...feeding belt is still visible. In short, it now looks like on the pic posted by @Sgt. Crocodile...

I would appreciate any additional info on the weapon...for e.g. the box mag shown on the pic..is it 50rd, 100 rd...200rd maybe? What is the standard, what models are there..capacity-wise?

  3. @Earl, thaks for that info!!! I couldn't find any pic with a mag box actually attached to the weapon, so I placed the box under the receiver section, the same way it is placed on M249...will re-model the mag right away.

BTW, that box on the pic looks rather small...50rd IMO. Is there a 100rd box that can be mounted on the side of the weapon? Would it tilt the weapon too much to the left?

  4. @Wolfsong is right...I modeled the weapon with a 100rd box mag...

FN MAG weghts 10,15kg...a 100rd box (acording to GR) weights 1,6kg; weapon with 100rd mag total weight is 11,75kg (25,9lbs)

    Now imagine it with a 600rd mag..9,6kg..total weapon weight of 19,75kg (43,54lbs) ..or 1200rd mag..19,2kg...total weapon weight of 29,9kg (65,9lbs).. <_<

FN MAG 7,62x51 NATO...the latest addition to ADF Operation Stabilise mod's arsenal...

This will be a standard tango support weapon..

Special thanks to @Suicide Commando for the pics of this pig-ugly but highly effective weapon

  6. I've been waching your post on the bow idea...so I feel there are a few things I have to share with you.

I made a crossbow that I've intended to put in a mod...and as cool as it loked at first, there was just no point in introducing such a weapon in GR. (unless, of coarse, you intend to make a mod with bow/crossbow type of weapons ONLY)

The thing is...if you make a bow/ crossbow realistic, it's no match for any firearm in the game..pistol included...and if you step out of realism, you got a single-shot silent sniper rifle...

My crossbow was coded as GL, the velocity of the projectile (arrow) was set to 140m/sec, ( I made one of those 185-pounder mother of a crossbow), I even modeled an actual arrow...when fired, you could actually see it flying in a curved trajectory and hitting a tango...

It was coded to be supressed, (so tangos' reaction was apropriate, after all, crossbows are supposed to be silent) and the projectile had an explosion type "0", ( no visual explosion), there was no explosion sound when the arrow would hit a tango, but it would still knock him down on his back with his feet up in the air...the explosion radius was set to 1cm, so it had to actually hit the tango to kill him..

It all seemed perfect..but..the weapon just wasn't justifyable to be introduced in the game. The maximum effective range was some 60- 80 meters, and with the 140m/sec velocity, a tango would sometimes dodge the arrow! Each arrow had to be loaded individually, and at 50m, if you miss and need to reload, you're dead.. It just couldn't mach the firearms..it was frustrating....

If you are trying to create a bow/ crossbow only mod, it's then another thing entirely...

  7. I belive SR-47SD was designed for cave- clearing purpose...sure hope to see that one in a mod (and yes, I know @Earl did a great job in his Standard Upgrade mod, but I would realy like to see SR-47 in it's "natural environment")

And another thing...I belive it could be acomplished in Igor since @Jack 57 did a simmilar thing in his Postcards from Peru mod...SR-47 was designed around 7,62x39mm round..not only chambered for the round, but actually utilises AK-47 type mags. It was done because the operatives couldn't carry enough ammo with them for those prolonged fire-fights in the caves. With the SR-47, every enemy taken out was a potencial source of spare ammo...

With that in mind, could your cave clearing missions be scripted in a way that after you take out a tango (with SR-47), and aproach the body, your ammo is replenished? Since Jack57 made an entire kit change in mission#2, I belive it could be done...

Of course, the mission should be scripted in a way that it all makes sense...tangos placed in a way that the mission wouldn't be impossible, but would still insure a prolonged fire fight...

    Just a thought...

  8. @Rocky, forgive me if I'm spoiling the fun for you if you haven't seen this one before...the episode when Kramer decided to make a deposit of his own blood in a blood bank. Later in that episode, Jerry gets stabbed in a neck in a weird kitchen knife accident (!) so they rush im to a hospital, and as he needs emergency transfusion (you guess) they give him Kramer's blood..:lol:

So when he wakes up from narcosis and they tell him he has Kramer's blood in him, he goes: "I can feel it inside me...boroughing stuff from my blood!!"

:lol: that one was one of the best I've seen :lol:

  9. The two of them scheming the plan was totally hilarious, and then Jerry put the plan into action and suggested some sexual escapade to his girl and instead of being shocked she was into it, then the exact same plan backfired on George in the next episode. OMG, I was crying when the hatched that plan, great stuff

:lol: I remember when Jerry told George he's not into it.."I'm not an orgy kinda guy..." And George is shouting back:" Are you nuts?! It's like you discovered Plutonium by accident...and you're not into it?!!! ":lol:

  10. Another thing (I've must have seen it a zillion times)...a fire fight on the street, infront of a caffe somewhere...and our "hero" just tilts over a coffe table and uses it as a cover as the bad guys spray-fire all over it... <_<

Blimey, that wouldn't even work against 3'' barrel Scorpion SMG in 7,65mm cal, let alone any 9mm SMG...

  11. The one that really made me lough is when George didn't know how to break up with a girlfriend...so someone (can't remember was it Jerry or Kramer) told him to make up something discusting that will make her brake up with him.

And so he came up with the idea to tell her he's a porn star...Buck Naked! (that alone gave me a ton of loughs)

Finaly, at the end of the episode, he looks her in the eyes and say something like: " I have to admitt something to you...I make porn movies..I'm Buck Naked."

And her eyes just light up in desire as she says "Really?!"

    :lol::lol:

  12. We are thinking about putting RPG version in a mod..the biggest problem is how to model it- with or without RPG on the barrel? If we make a model with it, after you fire it, (due to the engine limitations) it will still be there..we can' actually make RPG to detach from the rifle and hit the target...

And if we model it without RPG...it will appear like that huge RPG came out of nothing..or out of the barrel of the gun..again unrealistic.

Other then that, we can make it work in the game...I belive IDF mod have some version of RPG too...

  13. About Snipes...i think he used to train Karate before he became an actor, so un-armed combat scenes weren't too hard for him.

As for the other actors, I wached an interview with the European pistol-shooter champion, and he said the only actor in his opinion that handles the hand-gun properly is Steven Seagal. Now, with his aledged CIA background, that's not surprising...

  14. @billee, M-70AB2 was my service weapon for most of the war, so yes, I have an extensive expiriance with that rifle...

First to clear up the designations of various types of that rifle, which I understand can be confusing: M 70 is virtually an AK-47 clone. It was gradually improved over the original with usefull features, and every time it's designation was changed to reflect that. During years of its production, the rifle was improved with RPG (rifle proppeled grenade) capability- a special barrel attachment needed to be screwed on, and the rifle was equipped with integral foldable leaf sights that also works as gass cut-off device. (M-70B)

Later, a night sights were added...a flip-over iron sights with flourescent white dots (M-70B1) and finaly, a ported muzzle brake...the AK-47 type bolt with it's rotating action causes the rifle to kick upwards and to the right, so a muzzle brake with a port facing in that direction was screwed on a barrel to compensate that (M-70B2)...I fired both ported and regular version and didn't notice any difference ;)

The foldable stock versions have "A" added- hence M-70AB, M-70AB1 and finally M-70AB2.

The model rendered here is M-70AB1...foldable stock, leaf sight (RPG), night sights...but no ported muzzle brake.

And now to my personal expiriance with the rifle...IMHO. it's great weapon. .the sights could use some improvement, but once you get used to them, the rifle prooves to be quite accurate. When set to semi-auto, I could (and still can) fire 10 shots at 50cm (1,5ft) diameter target at 100m (110yds) distance, and have all 10 on target within 25cm (less then 1ft) radius. When set to full-auto, some degree of control is needed to fire short bursts. On my good day, I could fire 3-4 rd burst at 100m an have at least 3 of them on target. But the rifle does kick a lot, so rapid semi-auto fire is better solution at that distance.

Pros and Cons...again, IMHO, Serbian (ex-Yugoslavian M-70AB) is the best weapon of that type out there, apart maybe from the original Russian AK-47. It's insanely reliable...I NEVER had a jamm or missfire with it. I've seen the rifles dirty, wet, even rusted, but they would still fire with no problem. I know some guys with AKM's (Rumanian AK-47) had some problems...it has weaker bolt spring, so if you load different rounds in a mag, it might jamm. Different rounds (of different make..Serbian, Russian, Hungarian, Croatian..I tried them all) differ in quallity of brass case surface..some are smooth, some are more corse. It sometimes caused a jamm with AKMs...but never with M-70. It has strong spring, so cocking it requires some force...as does locking, changing fire mode, field stripping...it's robust, rigid and reliable..you might say it's a man's man-rifle...lol ;) The barrel is hi-quallity steel with thick walls..again, Rumanian and Hungarian AK-47 users had some problems with barrels. Those rifles have thinner barrel walls, so if you would fire 2 clips on full-auto or rapid semi-auto, and then lean it agains the wall, the overheated barrel would bend!! Never heard of anything like that happened with any version of M-70...

If you don't mind the extra weight, a 75rd hi-capacity drum-mag is available..or you could always tape two clips together for extra fire power.

And now for the cons...it's robust construction makes it rather heavy..over 4kg with foldable stock <_< ...but like I said, it's a man's man-weapon. Also (and that , IMHO, is the biggest problem) M-70 rust easily...you don't even have to submerge it in water...just take a walk in the morning mist and go in-doors...it will turn red with surface rust before your eyes. :( But then again, it's nothing a little WD-40 can't fix :rocky:

  15. @Zantar45, I'm asking, I'm asking... :)

If it's not too much trouble, scanning those better pics and posting them would be great...or you can always e-mail them to me and avoid putting them up to the website...

  16. Most of you know what I'm talking about, but here are a few examples that get to my nerves every frickin' time I see them in an action/SPECOPS/war movie: a "hero" goes trough half the movie with an assault rifle or SMG on full auto and takes down a bunch of bad guys...you don't see him reload once...and since he's naked from the waist up, there's no room for a speculation about him having spare mags on him somewhere (can anyone say Rambo or Commando) :D

A frag grenade makes a huge flaming red explosion. <_< ..in real life, all you can see is a small bright flash and a lot of smoke...

I could go on for hours with such examples...

  17. @Zantar45, I'm looking for SAR-80 5,56mm...it's Singapore made assault rifle based on AR 18. So far I wasn't able to find any pic that would be texture-good. There is one side pic out there on the net, but it's b/w...

If you can find a nice side pic of it in colour, it would be a great help...

  18. When in woods, taking cover behind any tree that's less then 1ft in diameter is no cover at all..it will go right trough it. That aspect is poorly represented in GR game...

That may be true for a round from an M60 (7.62) or an M2 (.50) but it is highly doubtful that a round from an M16 would go thru a tree. I shot a .30-30 into a tree about 5 inches in diameter and it was stopped bout half way thru (my cousin and I cut the tree down to see how far it did go in.) That shot was from about 30yds away.

I was talking about 7,62x39mm..the AK-47 round. When practice shooting, we would pin the target up on a tree and fire from 100m distance (roughly 110yds). The tree was some 20cm in diameter (8''), and the rifle was M-70 7,62mm (AK-47 clone). The bulit not only passed trough a tree, it went and hit a bank a few meters behind with such a force we could see dirt and dead leaves fly up in the air.
