It seems my info has started a lot of speculation about mod's final size. The good news is; most of the size-consuming stuff is all but done (character's textures and weapons), so what reamins to be done are mostly missions to complete the campaign. Final size of the mod shouldn't excide 100MB...depending on how big the intro movie is going to be.

And I can only wish if the figures were correct....I double checked all the files after the test installation, and it seems a lot of files were left out.. So I made another test compressed instalation file, with both WIN.RAR and SFX Factory, this time all the files were there, so here are the actual results; Operation Stabilise-current mod's folder: size 181MB (size on disc 186MB) Compressed with WIN.RAR as .exe file: 65,6MB Compressed with SFX Factory as self installing .exe: 60,5MB It's not possible to additionaly compress SFX .exe with WIN.RAR...also, I tried to additionaly co

I did some additional testing with both of these fine tools on current Op. Stabilise mod folder (currently 181MB, 186MB size on disc). It seems that both WIN.RAR and SFX Factory are using the same compression engine, it's not possible to create a compressed exe.file with SFX and then additionaly compress it with WIN.RAR. However, the results I got are very encouraging: with compression rate set to maximum, I reduced 181MB to 49MB using WIN.RAR, and 27,4MB(!) using SFX Factory (compression rate set to maximum). The mod still has some things to be added...missions and intro and outro

ROFLMAO ...this one even beats Tollen's "pearls"...

I hope you guys realise that this (and all other enemy weapons) will be fully available in MP...

@Giwex, thanks for the link. I think this SFX-Factory will sufice our needs. Also, it can be used as shareware for 30 days, so AUS_Viper will not d/l it till we reach the final stage of making this mod. I tried the tool on my beta Op. Stabilise folder...the original size in my GR mod folder is 97MB (101MB size on disc) , and SFX-Factory compressed it down to 27MB...it's reduced to almost 1/4 of the original size. We still have some stuff to add in the mod, but I bielive we'll keep the download size of the mod way under 50MB...as 56k-er, I can say it's large, but within reasonable limits
-
On a more serious note, AUS_Viper and I were thinking about ways to keep the size of the mod suitable for 56k-ers. We could use a powerfull compress/install tool...unfortunately, "install maker" only halves the size of the materiel, and that's not good enough. I believe FLAVA mod is packed with a tool that compressed it to 1/4 of the upacked size...does anyone know what packing tool is it and where can it be obtained?

I believe there is a Syrian army mod....

I don't know what to say that hasn't been said about this mod before....superb job...they call it "the third expansion" for a reason. So far, the only little "bug" I found is that some weapons (like Diemaco) sound a bit funny on full auto...almost like a shotgun sound. (yes, I do have 1.1 patch) Other then this minor issue, the mod lives up to the high praises it's been getting (and then some).. One more time; superb job, gentelmen!
-
Would you buy another expansion?
Streinger replied to DWilliams11's topic in GR (PC) - General Discussion
In a nutshell..YES!!! I would most definetly buy another expansion pack..even if it would bring nothing more then new SP campaign on new maps.... I wouldn't mind a huge upgrade of the game engine, though...something that would incorporate all the features the players wish to come with GR2. -
Here's the actual G36 ret..so you guys can compare how far off was I with my depiction of it...
-
Really now....G36K is just over 2000 polys...2056 to be exact.... @Argyll, here's the link : Land Rover Blueprints FYI, this G36K comes with a custom sound for two-shot burst mode and a custom reticule, a prety good representation of an actual thing...I hope AUS_Viper will post some screenshots of the reticule, too...
-
Thanks, mate...now that I know what it looks like, I can modify the blueprints of the regular Defender and make this baby...
-
Mate, are you sure this wasn't a mistake? I have to addmit I've never seen 6 wheeled Land Rover...there's "short" (model 88) and "long" (model 107) variant, but 6 wheeled? If you can find me some pictures, photos or blueprints, I'd love to make one for the game...

There are no actual weapons mounted on the ASLAV, as mounting working weapons on vehicles don't work in GR...however, you might notice there's 5 shooter's positions on the vehicle, so with full crew boarded, ASLAV has quite formidable fire power. AUS_Viper, my mate...again you did it...the cammera position, the actor arrangement...you are waisting your time with your job, start making movies, mate!!

Although you are right about lights, I menaged to "cheat" GR engine and made a working bayonet...search trough this thread and you'll find SA80 with a bayonet... H&K G36K, actually...

When will be the Next HOT Mod be released???
Streinger replied to ****COLONEL****'s topic in GR - General Mod Topics
I think we all forgot one great mod in the make (personaly, I anticipate the release of this mod almost more then the one I'm working on with AUS_Viper); STARGATE!!!!! Gooooo, Shadow...!! -
What's with that eyebrows fixation?!? Read the post; this is a test model, it's not textured in a "standard", GR kinda way, all surface textures are emulated with plug-ins...GR version of this female character will have way lower poly count, and it will be textured the GR way..eyebrows included. She will have rather cool outfit...sorry, I can't reveal more
-
OMG...Sabbath will now definetly have to make a new female model for Op: Stabilise....I don't care if she looks like a porn star, anything but Posh Spice..or any other Spice Girl...ROFLMAO
-
And you will...she'll have blonde hair, though...and will feature in "Op. Stabilise mod"...
-
@Chems, coming from "the vehicle guy", that is a great compliment...polycount is a bit big (or maybe not, since it is a vehicle and not a weapon ) ...just over 6000... ASLAV is already textured, tagged, scalled, exported and tested in the game... AUS_Viper will post renders of the finished model (and hopefully some cool screenshots) soon...so stand by, lads..

I see my pic has caused some trouble to some users..I've uploaded my pic to a different site and edited my post...also have an avatar now.

OMG...that brings me back almost 17 years ago when I lost my cherry to a 20-year old girl....hope you'll be that lucky, mate!

When will be the Next HOT Mod be released???
Streinger replied to ****COLONEL****'s topic in GR - General Mod Topics
Yeah, the name of the mod is "Operation: Stabilise"... Here's a few things this mod will include: US forces replaced with Australian Defence Force personnel. Base four classes (Rifleman, Support, Demolitions, Sniper) are modelled on the AUS SASR. - Brand new very original 12 mission campaign. To totally immerse the player, the campaign builds a story as the player completes each mission. For example, documents seized in one mission will assist with INTEL in the next. It's not just 12 random missions "strung" together. - An authentic Australian M113A1 LRV (light reconnaissance vehicle)
