  1. I just downloaded the mod and I'm testing out the co-op missions. I like the maps and the guns. The missions also look like they're going to be pretty cool. In looking through the missions I came across two things.

Does anyone else have these problems:

    - SCAR H: makes bird sounds when it fires

    - Mission A01 (co-op): There is a strange reverb echo in the environment

I don't mean to make this into a complaint. I know I can always play the missions without the SCAR H. I can always just not play the A01 mission as well. Maybe the two things I pointed out are easy to fix. I leave it to GiWeDa, I know how much work goes into making these mods. I'm happy to have new missions and new maps though.

As I am the team's wep man, I reckon it falls into my domain.

SCAR-H bird sound; strangely, I had the same problem long time ago, when making my Croatian Army mod. To keep the mod's size down, I didn't include sound files into the mod for my FN FAL, but rather let the engine look for it in DS sound folder. I had the exact same effect (birds chirping sound) when firing the weapon.

What we did for Armenia was exactly the same; as SCAR-H is 7,62mm NATO cal, just as FN FAL, I used those sounds for SCAR. We didn't include the sounds but let the engine "pull" them from DS. I can't claim that the issue is related to that particular sound, but it seems it sure happens a lot around it.

The fix might be done with a patch that will rename the sounds and include them into the mod's sound folder.

I'll try to coordinate with GiWeDa and release all the fixes in one patch.

  2. Rook, thanks for the info...serves me right for not checking my gun dealer on regular basis. I'll have to check for HS2000 45ACP availbility and prices here in Croatia...also not sure what should I do with my 9mm...sell it or keep it. (I really love the gun and would actually hate to sell it.) Right now I'm burning all my extra cash on accessories for my VN800 Classic, so 45 will have to wait...but I'll get it, eventually

  3. Rook, Ruin, ever considered HS2000 (Springfield XD in US)? Cheaper then Glock, simmilar features and just as reliable. Comes in 9mm, 40SW, 357SIG and as of recently 45GAP. (still no 45ACP... :( )

Off topic; Rook, any advice on what a good scope mount for AK-47 would be? Considering that one can't just mount a scope on top of the rear of the gun, as it is a removable cover, so every time one would strip down a gun, the scope would get missaligned and needed to be zeroed-in all over again...

  4. On a long road to modernize it's army, and make it compatible to NATO standards, Croatia is about to purchase 128 wheeled armoured vehicles. (the original plan was to buy 200 pieces, but due to financial reasons, the first purchase batch will count "only" 128 vehicles). Croatia will keep M-84 and M-84A1 tanks, but retire all of the old T-55 tanks, and implement heavy wheeled APCs in their place.

The final choice will be made between

    Finish Patria 8x8

    and Austrian Pandur II 8x8.

Both vehicles are currently being tested to the extreme by Croatian army before the choice is made.

I'd like to hear everyone's 2 cent on one or both vehicles and which one has the upper hand.

  5. As GiWeDa said, Mission; Afghanistan is on hold right now, but not dropped.

I won't lie to you; at one point, we did think of dropping the mod, as it was a big project and GR3 seemed right around the corner, the community seemed to have dissapeared and/or lost interest in GR mods altogether...

But dammit, too much work has been invested in it, so we are going to finish and release it.

Armenia SCARed mod should be released any day now. It will be followed by a special project of GiWeDa and me, which should start a whole new ball rolling for GR....you guys just have to wait a few more days and see....

After those two mods released, we are returning to Mission: Afghanistan. Current status of the mod is quite promising- all weapons and characters are done, as are all the vehicles and most of the maps (yes maps-plural...again, by Cobaka  )

I had some complicated ideas for the campaign, so I loaded quite a task in GiWeDa's lap...but he has improved his scripting abilities 10 fold during past few month, so I trust there will be no more scripting enigmas for him...

As soon as the work on the mod continues, we'll update the mod's thread!

  6. Good to hear it's still on GiWeDa.

I have one more wep to finish, it's something we decided to put in rather late...

I expect the mod to be finished by the end of September...

Oh, SC, the OTHER mod we discussed over PM is almost finished too.. ;) ..would you like to beta-test it?

  7. The mod is currently "on ice", but not dead by any chance- we just temporarely put all our efforts in finishing and releasing Armenia mod (a working title- most likely the mod will be named "Armenia SCARed"). The mod should be finished, tested and released sometime during July, then we'll switch back to Mission; Afghanistan.

On the side note; free image host I'm currently using will cancel free hosting by the end of the month, so unless I find a new host real quick, you can expect all posted images not to work till I fix the problem... :(

  8. VHS exploded view

I managed to get this (unfortunately low res) exploded view of VHS rifle.

Neat concept, but can you say "don't over oil the bolt guide rails"? I bet the action on that thing is a pain to clean and it could develop problems if unburnt powder accumulates in there. Does it not use any form of recoil spring?

Not sure about that...I examined the exploded view pic and for the life of me, I can't find a recoil spring. However, note that it's a CG pic made probably by the blueprint. On the actual rifle, you can see a little hump right behind the carry handle- on those CG images there's none to be seen. So the rifle might differ a bit from the original concept.

I first heard of this rifle some 6 month ago, from a guy that works in HS Produkt and goes into the same gym. While pumping some iron, he told me about a military rifle they (the firm) are developing there. He couldn't tell me much (because when he was being inquisitive about the rifle, they would tell him "don't ask!"), 'cept the rifle was tested continuously. I mean fired non-stop, both single and full-auto, clip after the clip, then taken apart and examined for wear and tear, then assembled and fired again. So we are talking about AT LEAST 6 month of extensive factory testing before the rifle was presented.

The rifle should definitely be field tested to see how much maintenance it requires to keep it running. I don't think the U.S. military likes the bull pup design however.

I agree 100%- factory testing could never substitute field testing. The rifle could have some "soft spot" that factory men were tiptoeing around, but infantry grunts sure won't be. If there's anything to be broken, miss-assembled or otherwise screwed up on this rifle, just give it to the grunts for a day, and they'll find it for you...

2: Hopelessly complicated to do quick mag changes, heck you have to stick the new mag just about up in your armpit. Tried doing that manuvre on a FAMAS while prone and it's just about impossible to do quick and smoothly.

Snow, not meaning to put you down, mate, but it's also the matter of training- you were trained (as was I) to fire and reload standard assault rifle, and switching to a bullpup design is bound to take some training and getting used to the concept.

French with their FAMAS, as well as Brits with L85A1 (SA80A1), Austrians, Aussies, Irish with Steyr don't seem to have problems...

I have to say that Croatian soldiers have some experience with bullpup- they were field testing Tavor, back when the production begun. I believe the idea was for the rifle to be produced here for both armies, as costs of production would be lower if produced in Croatia, but the problem was Israel is not allowed to spend US donated money (which they planned to finance the project with) other then to either buy US weapons or produce their own on their soil, so production was moved to Israel.

1: forget shooting from your "weak" side unless you want to cop a facefull of hot brass. That seriously limits you when it comes to finding shielded places to fire from.

You seem to have the point there. I know some of the bullpups are ambidextrous, but not for instant use- they can be converted to eject brass and be cocked from either side. (TAVOR, Steyr) However, it requires taking the gun apart and putting it back together- definitely not suitable for switching shoulders rapidly.

I guess not even a case deflector wouldn't help much there- at least not one of conventional design. Maybe one designed like a hood that would force the brass to fall straight down, but that might cause a jam...

  9. choto10_25A.jpg

This new Croatian rifle, named VHS, was recently presented on iKA, an annual innovation display in Karlovac, Croatia.

Externally, it may look like a fuse of Tavor, Tavor 2 and FAMAS, but internally, there's a different story; when fired, gun powder gasses push the bolt backward via piston, that much is the same as in almost all assault rifles. However, the unique feature of this gun is that it has additional gas vent that leads some of the gases into a chamber located BEHIND the bolt. As the bolt moves backward, it's gradually slowed down and then softly stopped by a gas cushion, rather then coming into an abrupt stop as it reaches it's most backward position, causing recoil. This feature makes VHS, well, not recoilless, but very low recoil and easy to fire.

Some other features of the VHS rifle are the following; length 750mm, width 448mm, height 255mm. Barrel length 500mm(!) Calibre 5,56X45mm NATO

Cyclic rate of fire- 600rpm, single/auto/safe fire selector

Weight (without flash light, grenade launcher, bayonet or magazine)- only 2,3kg(!)

Pistol grip placed in weapon's center point, making it possible to fire with one hand.

Integral bipod that folds entirely into a serration in the grip.

Dove tail mount located under the barrel, infront of the pistol grip- for mounting flash light, laser or IC light.

Easy mounting 40mm underbarrel grenade launcher- when lower part of the front grip is removed, the GL mounts on the gun in the same manner as the bayonet.

Any kind of optical sight can be mounted ontop of a carry handle, which is also equipped with iron sight that shooter uses with both eyes open- apparently, this feature is common in some hunting rifles...I'd appreciate any additional info on that. (I'm familiar with military rifles, but know next to nothing about hunting rifles or shotguns...)

The VHS is developed by HS Produkt, the same factory that makes HS2000/ Springfield XD pistols. It's been thoroughly tested by HS Product team and presented as finished product, not prototype. It's currently undergoing testing by Croatian army. Rumour has it it's even been offered to US army...

Possible date of adaptation by Croatian army- some say Croatian contingent of MPs in Afghanistan will be equipped with VHS soon, other sources say the earliest VHS can be adopted is 2008...

  10. Stearing the topic back into more serious waters, I see...right then..

No, I never intended to marry her, and it had nothing to do with religion...more with the fact she was a weitress in a biker bar I used to hang out...we had one summer of fun, that was it.

Come to think of it, it's also against most religion's rules...premarital sex, I mean...christianity, judaism, hinduism, islam...not sure about budism...

S****, if it were up to them, I'd had to marry at the age of 16, or would be a 35yo virgin...somehow neither works for me....;)

  11. Tough luck, mate. Like I already said, if there are two inteligent people involved, there should be no problem...then again, suprisingly few people on this planet are inteligent....just check history books for religious wars.

Personaly, I don't have a problem with anyone having their own beliefs, as long as they are not forcing them on me. You seem to be the same way, but it's amazing how many people are ticked off by that....they just can't seem to grasp the concept of someone else not seeing the world their way. They seem to be happier with their counterparts in other religions, just as rigid in their views...so they can scorn each other and claim how they are right and the other guy is wrong.

But you being tolerant of their beliefs, and at the same time, having your own set of beliefs (which can include beliving in nothing, or so called atheism)...that they just can't grasp. Go figure.... <_<

  12. PS: sorry for the low resolution and the small size but from Saudi it took ages to upload some pics

    ROFLMAOPIMP

It took you ages to upload the wrong pic! That is not a SCAR variant at all, it is in fact FN Minimi equipped with Aimpoint scope....

  13. I made two basic variants of FN SCAR, L(5,56NATO) and H(7,62NATO)

H variant comes in assault rifle and sniper rifle versions, L variant in those two plus LSW variant . I also included FN Minimi in the mod, equipped with Aimpoint scope.

render links will be posted here shortly...
