TWIN2X2048-6400C4 = Model number. Just like an Athlon 3500+ doesn't really have 3500+ of anything specific. That's all.

Okay, I'll try to explain this well, because it's a bit unusual a situation for a game this old. The expansions were also patches. They included new content, but each expansion also "fixed" bugs in the original game. The only patch [GR] had that wasn't part of an expansion pack came with Island Thunder, and that was more or less because of a bug introduced by the dev. team. IT patched to 1.3, and a few weeks later, 1.4, a bugfix was released. You more or less can't download mods (there are SO many) without all three titles installed. So yes, DS and IT, without them, you'll almo

As long as you end up with Ghost Recon, Desert Siege, and Island Thunder, with the 1.4 patch (which I'm sure you will), you are fully compatible with any retail release of the game. From there, it's all about mods, and you're at the right site for that. We may not have them all, but we've got six+ years of history with a six+ year old game.

Hmm. Frankly, the Vista version just means it's been patched to work under Vista. The DVD version and CD version are otherwise the same. Basically, it's the same game across the board, with some minor install variances. The Gold version includes all expansions and patches; the Vista version probably does nothing special other than ensure it's compatible with the OS. It's an older game, and any version will work just fine, to the best I know. Gold is more important than DVD or CD, as Gold means you get all the content.

I'll do it, but topless. You'll go blind!

ilove mecha - does not hack
Dannik replied to ilovemecha's topic in GR:AW 2 (PC) - General Discussion
Source that out, please. We've got a fairly strong rule against talking about MP cheats, and thus cheaters. Seriously. We're far from perfect, but if you are here to defend yourself against accusations, there's a problem. This is NOT the site that should be a source of those sorts of worries. If posts here have put you on the defensive, we would like to know, so we can deal with it. We do not condone "cheaters" in any sense, but we also have strict rules against using this site as a way to draw a line. -
Save up for the next gen, Militiaman. About the only thing that CPU/RAM upgrade would do would be for "business" applications, like large Photoshop files, running a big database... basically, nothing unless you use your computer primarily as a workstation. Sure, some games will get a small boost. Not worth the cost, though. If you want to crunch numbers, the upgrade is only worth it if your bottom line is pure throughput of numbers. If you want a general purpose machine, save for the next gen of gear. A proper PCI-E, SATA2, DDR2 motherboard, etc. If you need Excel to excel, up

I too have a Radeon X1950Pro, and RvS and [GR] run like butter. Biro is right that you may have driver remnants that need cleaning out. Otherwise, did you install the Radeon Catalyst driver from the install CD, or the latest build? If the former, download the newest ATI driver, uninstall your existing, reboot, install the newest, reboot, and go. I know the drivers that came with my X1950Pro didn't like RvS for some reason, but newer builds fix that beautifully.

[why hasn't there been a] GR movie [?]
Dannik replied to sgt.hoot's topic in GR (PC) - General Discussion
The SOAF game was a quick and dirty from RSE using the GR engine, to coincide with the movie based on a novel Clancy actually wrote. I found it a pretty fun game, though it faded very quickly into the woodwork. GR was (I believe) the first RSE franchise to have absolutely nothing to do with anything Clancy had touched before, though I believe I recall he was still part of the machinations that were behind the creative concept then. Why no commercial movie? Not enough interest, I assume. Too niche. We may all love it, but we're a bit weird. Besides, given the state of game-to-movie f -
It may be related to Russia's new claim on the North Pole, by cruising northern airspaces.

If you go XP, the alternative to LAMP is, of all things, WIMP. Windows, IIS, MSSQL and PHP, though variants abound. It's nowhere as user friendly to configure, but it'll do the same basic thing, and has the advantage of being very easy to network with other Windows boxen. LAMP boxes network well too, though not as "streamlined" in terms of interface, unless you know what you are doing. It all comes down to primary usage, as in if you want to serve games, do they have Windows binaries or Linux support. For the webhosting, it's either/or, though LAMP is generally considered superior. Assuming you don't need Windows running, I'd suggest tossing Ubuntu Server Edition on the system. It's got the ability to set up and configure LAMP* as part of the installer. Couldn't be easier. *LAMP: Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP. Basically, a web host in a box.

Indeed. When I get off my posterior and take care of business, I've got a box here that's going to be a LAMP server. Eventually. I like that Microsoft is trying to penetrate the market; more awareness is a good thing; still, they will fall short on the casual market because the casual market doesn't know why the product exists. Give it time, though...

An uncommon but not rare issue. First, try cleaning the DVD. If you have it, eyeglass cleaner and a soft cloth, and wipe from centre to rim. No eyeglass cleaner, just use any very mild detergent. A mix of five parts water to one part white vinegar is better than Windex or soap. While I don't recommend it, I've had luck with defective optical media by immersing it in boiling water for a few seconds. I mean a few. Five or less. Sounds crazy, but it's worked for many in the past. Seems that the boiling realigns the surface of the disc. Of course, dry very well afterwards. Also, don

I assume by "download version" you have the Direct2Drive version? Please check this post and provide the relevant information. No promises that anyone will have a solution, but the more info you provide, the better the chances.

Vicard with HDMI connection: are there any?
Dannik replied to Cpl Ledanek's topic in Computer Discussions
HDMI native cards to exist , though I can't say I've ever seen one at retail. Still, it's possible to get one. My X1950Pro is HDCP ready, and has component breakouts, but no HDMI socket, but I do believe that AMD/ATI is the way to go if you want quality "television" from a PC. ATI has been in the business of TV cards for a very long time. -
Out of the box, no, because GRAW2 doesn't support game pads. There are workarounds, though. Programs like Pinnacle let you map any controller to any keyboard/mouse setting you like.

Bioshock installes rootkit on systems
Dannik replied to FI_FlimFlam's topic in Shooter games (FPS & TPS)
It's not a rootkit. Absolutely, utterly not. Calling it a rootkit is false. It's FUD. It's sensationalism. It's a lie. Yep, just like the regular retail version doesn't have a rootkit. Of course, the Steam version has the exact same SecuROM DRM as retail that people are claiming is a rootkit (albeit falsely). -
If it's from a Dell, it's likely a restore image, not an actual copy of XP, and even if it is a proper XP cd, it's going to be tied to the Dell OEM code on the case of the computer it came with, more than likely.

online printing widescreen site: know any
Dannik replied to Cpl Ledanek's topic in "Off Topic" Posts
Do you want a mural? Custom wallpaper? Tiles? A single image? Details, man! Is it at least 200 (400 preferred) dpi, and in CMYK, ready for plates? Or is it at 72dpi, in RGB? -
I have VGA GeForce 5200 , is it supported by GR:AW2 ?
Dannik replied to MKTemraz's topic in GR:AW 2 (PC) - Tech Support
I hadn't either, but it's in the "revised" system specs, and apparently is some special budget version of the 9600 from Asus. -

Dannik replied to MKTemraz's topic in GR:AW 2 (PC) - Tech Support
Unfortunately, no on both counts. The minimum video card required is an Nvidia 6200 or ATi 9559, and there are no special patches to change that. -
EA, to celebrate the 12th anniversary of their vintage but classic title, Command & Conquer, have released it for free in ISO format. A two CD download, with instructions on how to get the game running under Windows XP are available.

Assuming GRAW2's sounds are the same as GRAW1's, then getting at the wave files is easy, if a bit awkward. The .bank files don't contain .wav files, it is a .wav file, just renamed. It's all the relevant sounds, in one long string, with the file type renamed to .bank. Rename it to .wav, open in your fave sound editor, locate the section you want to change, and change it. Save, name back, and you're good to go.

[PhysX PPU headed for Dell's laptop line]
Dannik replied to Sleepdoc-iBeta's topic in Computer Discussions
I remember the first time I played Unreal on a computer with a 3d accelerator. The tech took off. 3dFX still owes me a mail in rebate for my Voodoo3. Still, this is the next generation of "new tech, let's see if it becomes the norm."
