  1. It's only appropriate that I reply to this, since I was more or less the caretaker and uploader of the now dead page you linked to.

I'm trying (and possibly failing) to upload the images from that page, since I have a copy of them locally.

Edit: For some reason, I'm having trouble uploading them. I'm working on it, though.

Edit2: Success, sort of. I'm currently uploading the images individually to some personal webspace, since the .zip just won't stick for some reason. You can find them here.

  2. Formally, there is no controller support in Ghost Recon for PC. I've managed to get limited use of my Logitech Dual Action in-game, but haven't really pushed it to full use, not that I really want to.

Still, I know it's possible using 3rd party tools, though since the game wasn't designed for it, it may be even more frustrating than getting used to the keyboard/mouse setup.

And no, I'm not saying that because I dislike one control scheme. I'm saying that because [GR] requires a kind of precision at times that as both a keyboard/mouse user and a gamepad user, the gamepad just won't keep up.

Since the controller setup is all 3rd party stuff, I can't really help, but I can wish you luck with it.

  3. Below the key mappings is a button marked "Map Key" or something akin. Highlight the control you want to change, hit that button, and then a float will come up asking you what you want to change to.

As for the one map issue, that is normal. You must complete each mission in an SP campaign, in order, to unlock them for quick play, though it is possible to manually unlock them using console commands or some xml file editing.

  4. give him the ip to put in his host file ;)

While I'm well aware of the ability to go this route, it's inelegant. Modifying client files to solve a network issue that will resolve itself isn't a cure, it's a band aid solution.

  5. BFS isn't down. We moved the site to a new server, and thus DNS propagation issues cropped up. The site is working normally, but until your ISP's DNS servers catch up, you'll not be able to access the site.

Do me a favour, and run an IP trace for blackfootstudios.com and let me know what number comes back. That'll help me figure out if it's something I can fix, though likely you're just going to have to wait a bit longer.

As for the 8pm thing, we got the word from the owner to migrate the server earlier that day, and 8pm was the earliest time that those involved in the migration could start the process. Though the site was technically live two hours later, we knew DNS would take a bit of time to completely spread.

Edit: Just in case, try this link: http://www.blackfootstudios.com/forums

  6. I think the why of the lack of decent co-op features is obvious, and it's the exact same issue that causes many PC gamers to cry "console kid" when presented with a mainstream game:

Despite the fact that gamers have never been more connected, there is this tightly held notion in the mainstream that gamers are insular creatures, only venturing out of their individual caves to yell profanities at "the others". Since developers are predisposed to assume bad things will happen if more than one or two of these "gamers" get together for the same task (and please, don't look at games like WoW, since co-op works rather well there) someone will become a griefer, and all that hard work developing a complex co-operative game experience will be for naught.

Easier to just don't bother, and probably more money that way. :ermm:

  7. The files you are looking for are in the default path of:

    C:\Program Files\Red Storm Entertainment\Ghost Recon\Mods\Origmiss\Mission\

Your install location may vary. Also, note that the folder Mission appears in any mod folder containing missions. If you want to edit the mission files for the GR/DS/IT combination, you'll also need to go to \Mods\MP1\Mission and \Mods\MP2\Mission

Now, the files you are looking for are *.mis files, named for the mission/map they are for. These are XML files, or at least XML-like, and can be edited with any text editor of your choosing.

The text is located early in each file between the <briefingtext></briefingtext> tags.

Please note that these files are marked read only.

  8. Did you manually install the 1.4 patch? I believe the gold edition already does this, and patching to 1.4 may be the issue, if you did.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd suggest uninstalling, reinstalling, and running without the 1.4 patch, seeing if the game starts up, and then checking the version number in the bottom right of the menu screen.

Oh, and because it may be a factor, what OS are you currently running?

  9. The only server package that exists for Ghost Recon is the Windows binary that is the game client as well. In order to host in a *nix environment, you would need to use something like WINE to get the server running.

You would also need to ensure that the server met all of the system specs for Ghost Recon as they appear on the package. Dedicated server or no, it still needs a compatible video card, sound card, etc.

  10. Anyone know where you can still buy SOAF? I actually bought it when it came out but it kinda flopped and i've lost the disks in the mix.

I know what you mean. I bought SOAF at release, it died, and I lost my copy. Then I found a boxed set in a local store. R6, Rogue Spear and SOAF, with R6 and RS updated for XP.

Throw "Tom Clancy's Counter-Terrorism Classics Pack" into your fave search engine.
