So far, my Wii collection is: Super Mario Galaxy (great, if you liked Super Mario 64) MarioKart (with full online racing) Rayman Raving Rabbids (and yes, it's as fun as Rocky said) Wii Sports Wii Play Link's Crossbow Training Wii Fit (very interesting; not a game per se, nor a trainer, but somewhere in between) Plus a bunch of GameCube titles that are all back compatible. Networking is a little bit fiddly if you don't have a WIFI router (I don't), and one of the first accessories I picked up was a 3rd party set of battery packs/charger cradle that is powered by one of the Wii's US

How Do I Run Graw 1 Without Inserting Cd
Dannik replied to Otismann's topic in GR:AW (PC) - Tech Support
You can't, at least not legally in your country (as well as most of the developed world). -
I believe Ubisoft turned off the activation server, as the free games were supposed to be for a limited time only, as in activate it during the limited time, and it would work for good, but after the window, no luck. The error is probably generic.

Computer Freezing For 5 Secs Every Few Minutes
Dannik replied to Rocky's topic in Self Help Tech Support
I had the same issue a few years back. Turns out my CDRW had failed, and was taking it's IDE down with it. Disconnected it, and problem solved. Glad you got it sorted! -
In every case I can recall, when installing a game that uses the My Documents to store your game info, the installer asks if you want to make the game available to you, or all users. If just you, other users don't get the shortcut installed, though they could possibly* find and run the game, but My Documents is per profile, so the game folders are also per profile. * If the game relies on registry entries to run, another user account may or may not be able to run it, depending on which registry tree the entries are installed in.

Borrowed from Wikipedia: It's for ease of access and consistency, or at least that's the semi-official reasoning.

Your system CMOS (BIOS) needs to be told to boot from the optical drive the Windows CD is in. To do this, it varies from motherboard to motherboard, but you should see a splash screen within a second of booting telling you to hit "some key" to enter setup. Once in setup, look for an entry marked boot devices, or boot order. Again, the wording varies. Set it to boot from the drive you have the CD in, and it should be reasonably simple to format your new disk and install Windows. Don't forget to go back and undo the change to boot devices if you want to boot normally. Assuming Windows

I borrowed this from Fark.com: Man fined £30 for, well, read it.

Yes, we'll never track down the Russian, whose Gmail account we have culprit.

We were lucky. The perpetrator could have wiped us out completely, from the looks of it, but that wasn't their intention. They just wanted to get as many computers in their botnet as they could.

We've repaired the damage, and IP banned a small European country (seriously). While the site is working now, it appears that Firefox users (not sure if 2.x, 3.x or all) who visited during the incident have corrupt MIME types set, and thus cannot use the forums/site normally. There is a fix for it, but it's unpleasant. More news as we can. Edit: We've reopened the forums. If you are a member there, please read this post first, as there is still an outstanding technical issue, but it's not server side.

To give an overview: Somehow, the server was infected with code that created or overwrote all of the .htaccess files throughout the file tree. .htaccess is a very powerful system of doing things like access control, redirects, etc. These arbitrary .htaccess files basically destroyed the server's ability to parse HTML, and also make anyone coming to the site via the major search engines get redirected to a server elsewhere, that hosts more infected code.

Everybody is. I've located the problem, and removed the damaged code, but not before the webserver was reprogrammed to redirect html requests. A support ticket has been opened. (I'm Aldous over there, in case it wasn't obvious) The forums are still working properly at this time. You can access them here, but I would understand if people were leery about logging in at this time.

I once knew a gent named Rocky, As a youth, I expect quite cocky. His sites are quite hot, But as he's a Scot, He'll never beat me at ice hockey. I work for a man named Sonedecker, As a boss you can't find one better. I may be slow, But as everyone knows, Haste can be a project car wrecker.

There once was a game called Ghost Recon, Using guns to deliver a beat on. But not me it seems, `Cause on every team, The bad guys chose me to go 1337 on.

Flash doesn't embed fonts by default, but it's fairly simple to do so. Here's what seems to be a complete (if basic) tutorial on Flash fonts.

I really think Adobe should release a version of PS called Adobe Photoshop: Journalist Edition. It would have crop, resize and level/colour balance tools. Only. If you try to do anything else, a fist should come out at chair level and remind you that you're a complete tool. Edit: Amusingly (and rightly), that 279 image set has shrunk to 276.

I'm not sure if it's related, but I had a similar issue. I had two friends with CENTCOM installed because I recommended it. All three of us had the exact same game version and mod version, to the point where I had one of the folks upload their CENTCOM mod folder to me, so I was absolutely using the same files. They could play together, but if I joined, all of us would CTD. Unfortunately, I never found a solution.

Windows Security Update Prevents Net Access?
Dannik replied to Rocky's topic in Self Help Tech Support
True. I have ADSL, and the only hardware provided was an ethernet/USB modem. Instead of purchasing a router, I simply use a hub (and really should get a switch instead) and all the computers on the network lease their own public IP, as my ISP lets me have up to five IPs leased at a given time. Thus, software firewalls on all boxes that need it. Even my Wii is software firewalled. -
Windows Security Update Prevents Net Access?
Dannik replied to Rocky's topic in Self Help Tech Support
There's one solid reason to use a stately software firewall even when you have a good NAT setup: Outbound. NAT protects from inbound attack vectors, but does nothing to protect against malware that may have stuck onto your system through apparently otherwise legitimate means. -
CENTCOM! I'm sorry I forgot about that one. I knew I was missing another major player, but I just didn't remember what it was. Not that CENTCOM isn't memorable, but I have a memory like... one of those things you drain things through. In a kitchen... Also, HX5 comes to mind. As NoQuarter said, if you need links to specific mods that are more open, please post. It may take a bit of time, but by all means, someone will either find one, or create one.

Hey, at least they're trying! And yes, double entendre in full effect. -
Windows Security Update Prevents Net Access?
Dannik replied to Rocky's topic in Self Help Tech Support
This was a huge critical flaw in every single DNS-using device across the world. I can forgive a company if they rush to prevent every single install of their operating systems from becoming a massive botnet, instead of taking their time to test literally millions of possible app combinations. -
Windows Security Update Prevents Net Access?
Dannik replied to Rocky's topic in Self Help Tech Support
Again, I'm compelled to point out that this isn't a problem with Microsoft. They pushed out a critical patch; hundreds of software vendors are doing the same. The problem here is Zone Alarm was poorly coded, and hasn't been patched yet. -
Windows Security Update Prevents Net Access?
Dannik replied to Rocky's topic in Self Help Tech Support
One of the new security patches fixes a DNS exploit. It also makes Zone Alarm break. If you have Zone Alarm installed, set it's security to Medium for the internet zone, switch firewall applications, or uninstall MS08-037 (KB951748). I don't know if Zone Alarm is the only culprit, but it's the most widely reported one. The error is also, for the sake of clarity, at Check Point's end, not Microsoft.
