  1. The command to delete folder is DOS/Command Prompt Mode is deltree.

    Usage:

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

    © Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Nick>cd..

    C:\Documents and Settings>dir

Volume in drive C has no label.

    Volume Serial Number is 305B-13D5

    Directory of C:\Documents and Settings

    08/23/2002  11:09 AM    <DIR>          .

    08/23/2002  11:09 AM    <DIR>          ..

    08/23/2002  11:09 AM    <DIR>          All Users

    08/23/2002  11:20 AM    <DIR>          User1

    08/24/2002  05:03 AM    <DIR>          User2

    08/19/2003  12:52 AM    <DIR>          User3

                  0 File(s)              0 bytes

                  6 Dir(s)  26,547,322,880 bytes free

    C:\Documents and Settings>deltree C:\Documents and Settings\User3

This would delete the folder "User3" and all files within.

  2. First, a disclaimer: If I have used a word in my post that is not considered appropriate for these forums, it is unintentional from a "poor use" standpoint, but used in deference to the topical thread.

There are two sets of phrases, both occuring more online than in day to day life, that frustrate me.

    • The terms "gay" or "fag" being used to describe someone's distaste with a situation. Playing online games, we all know the usage to which I refer
    • "ur" instead of "you are" or "your" or "you're"

Both sets of terms are purely indicative of someone who has so little respect for language and decency that they do not feel it necessary to behave as a civilized, respectable person.

I don't have issues with the occasion short form being used, such as "afaik" for "as far as I know", since it's more or less used in the same sense as a proper contraction, albeit in a quite different form. This is certainly not the same as those who neglect to use the letters that make up the word or words they are trying to express.

I realize that not every person is properly literate, but I cannot accept that anyone with poor english skills would actually think that "ur" or "u r" is remotely acceptable as the proper application of the language, whether written or spoken.

    :wall:

  3. When you say you are on a wireless connection now, do you mean satellite or 802.11a/b/g/whatever?

If it's satellite or fixed broadband (microwave), then latency (delay between your motion and the time for that info to get to the server) will intrinsically destroy your ability to play MP games over the `net. There's simply too much distance to cover for your signal, especially with satellite.

If it's wireless as in "home network wireless", then depending on the tech you use, things like cell phones, cordless phones or your kitchen microwave will emit frequencies that your wireless hardware will actively "wait" for, causing similar horrific lag.

  4. This sounds like bad Creative drivers. I had a similar issue when I got my Audigy 1 card a few months ago. A driver update from Creative solved the issue in my situation.

Certain applications would die hard in a high pitched whine, after a few minutes of play. Creative released "gamer" specific betas shortly after I had this issue, and they helped a bit, and since then they have released a more stable build.

I don't know if you are using the install CD drivers or the latest from Creative's site, but if it's the former, download, download, download.

Best of luck. It's a beautiful card for high quality audio (if your speakers are up to it). Gaming...a little buggy (like all Creative cards) but it can be resolved. Usually. ;)

  5. Maple tends to be a "slower" neck, as in the finish tends to grab the fingers a bit more. It also usually lends a brighter or more "open" tone to a guitar.

Rosewood tends to be "faster", with less finger resistance. It also deepens the tone of the instrument.

I prefer maple even though my hands tend to get sticky pretty fast when playing. I chose maple over rosewood for the tonal differences, not the physical differences.

Best thing to do is A/B both on the same model and see where you end up.

  6. Not quite, Sart.

How Leadership points work isn't in multiples of three... well, not quite.

How it does work is that for each 3 leadership points, your other soldiers get a boost of the equivalent to 1 regular point. Now, if your "leader" only had 2 leadership points, the other soldiers still get a boost, but only 2/3 of a point.

The game engine doesn't interpret the points as literally as the GUI indicates.

Think of it this way: Let's say 8 points in Weapon would give a soldier an accuracy rating of (making up numbers as I go, the numbers aren't important, but the relationship of the numbers is) 80%.

    So 8 points = 80%

Let's assume that 1 stat point is... 30% accuracy.

So, Accuracy=0.30+((0.80-0.30)/7)x(S-1) (S being # of stat points).

I don't recall the link at the moment, but in a developer interview back when GR was first released, the RSE folks explained that leadership points allways count, and the "3-per" rule was merely for ease of explanation.

Thus, 6 leadership points is a 2-point boost for the others, while 8 leadership points is a 2 2/3-point boost.

  7. Gotcha. :rocky:

Jungle Storm for the PS2 contains the Island Thunder maps/campaign, but it also contains another complete mission pack, which takes the campaign from Cuba to Colombia, for a further set of missions taking down a drug cartel.

I know you're referring to the PC version, but the completely new set of missions from Jungle Storm that go beyond IT may be the PC pack you heard about.

    From Gamespot:

Set in the year 2009, Jungle Storm will first see players entering Cuba as part of a UN peacekeeping force to destroy a drug-funded warlord and secure free elections there--the same campaign that appears in Ghost Recon: Island Thunder on the Xbox and PC. The game's second eight-mission single-player campaign will see players going after the Colombian cartel that financed the failed revolution in Cuba and, by way of revenge, has bombed an American embassy. Players will be able to issue voice commands to their squadmates via the PS2 Voice Communicator peripheral.

In addition to the single-player game, Jungle Storm will feature no fewer than 31 multiplayer maps and a total of 10 multiplayer gameplay modes. Online statistics tracking and ladder rankings will be supported, as will voice chat between players.

  8. Just a quick note: "Not all Canadians are against us."

Is it even possible that Bush's "If you're not with us, you're against us" doctrine is narrow-minded?

To disagree with a political movement doesn't mean one is intrinsically actively opposed to it.

I'm glad you found a Canadian author who suits your point of view, but to imply that those who disagree are against you... poorly brought up, methinks.

But hey, I'm just a Canadian. What do I know?
