I actually just completed a Remote Assistance test from an XP Home machine to my XP Pro machine, over the internet. I could fully control my Pro box from the Home machine. That's not the same as Remote Desktop, I know, but it's a start? EDIT: And Remote Desktop cannot be activated on XP Home. Not in the literal sense. You were right, Phantom, although using Remote Assistance provides a manual method of doing much the same thing, just requiring both users to be online at the same moment, and to personally allow the connection per session. XP Home indeed does not support Remote Desk

I know exactly where you are coming from, bro. I haven't had the chance to actually try remote assistance to the other computer here, so I can't actually confirm/deny much, just that the option is there, unlike NurFACE's configuration. Maybe at some point you and I should sit down, and actually test out what really is possible with XP Home/Pro Remote Accesses?

Phantom, I've got XP Pro on this puter, and XP Home on the one two feet to my left. It supports "remote assistance", which I have used in the past to do remote desktop functions.

Is the Remote Desktop Help Session Manager service running on the XP Home machine? If the service isn't active, then the tab may not appear at all (or merely not work).

Official Half Life forums - where are they?
Dannik replied to WytchDokta's topic in Shooter games (FPS & TPS)
As far as I can tell, the official forums are the ones Sierra runs, which can be found here. Neither Gearbox Software nor Valve seem to have forums of their own. -
Assuming we're in-game, the PSG-1 (aka 7.62 sniper) is possibly the best combination of accuracy and power in GR. The M98 simply does not have the same punch. Certainly, it reloads faster than the PSG, and has slightly faster rets, but as a sniper, it's a one shot/one kill situation. I alternate between the PSG and the SVD, personally. The PSG is my fave, but sometimes the semi-auto factor of the SVD wins over, depending on the game.

looking for mac compat. servers 4 multiplay
Dannik replied to tonto-style's topic in GR (PC) - Tech Support
Short answer: GameRanger It's a Mac specific MP game browser that supports Ghost Recon. Longer answer: Pretty much any server out there supports the Mac, as long as you have the latest patch, AND have managed to obtain Island Thunder (which hasn't been released for the Mac yet, but stick around or search, as some have figured out how to make it work on the Mac). Otherwise, it's about having luck finding a server that is running just GR/DS (which is the default Mac software). -
Snail Mail is a slang term for regular, old fashioned postal service.
-
At this point, other than training excercises, it's multiplayer only. The developers are slowly adding single player back-end coding though, so perhaps soon you will be able to play offline.

When I saw the thread title, I thought "who's name their 12 year old boy Bail?"

Battle.Net Terms of Use This CD key banning doesn't affect a player's ability to use their purchased (licensed) software. What it does to is remove their ability to play multiplayer, since they will no longer be able to access Battle.Net's services. Since Battle.Net is not part of the software package purchased at a store, but instead is a free "extra" offering for Blizzard companies, they can indeed effectively remove your ability to play multiplayer games (other than LAN games) as they see fit. There is no recourse to complain that they have "crippled your game" or that you "paid for

DAP occasionally gets confused with file names from dynamic sites... but this one's easy to "fix". Just rename the file you downloaded from "64" to "whatever.exe" and it should be fine.

If I walk into a bar that allows smoking, and the air is blue with smoke, can I avoid going in there? If I walk down the street, choking down the foul effluence of the SUV that just passed me, do I have a choice? Can I avoid walking down a public street? I can't choose to not suffer the effects of horrible emission systems, but I can choose to avoid a private environment that is full of pollution. Smoking marijuana isn't illegal everywhere either. I know this isn't the point of your post, but it's still relevant to this conversation.

Fan filters are not everyday finds, but certainly out there. Here's an example of someone installing case filters.

Sorry it's so small. The original was a 1.7 meg flash.

The Striker is indeed a real shotgun.

Everything you always wanted to know about weapons
Dannik replied to miklogik's topic in GR (PC) - General Discussion
...because the rifle part of the OICW is a modified G36, as far as I recall. -
I think it's more likely a horrific education system, governmental inanity, and the homogenous nature that society tends to create. Shame on you for thinking outside the box. Isn't that the bottom line for so much these days? I'm a smoker. I have been for about 13 years now. I'm not proud of it, hell, I don't like being a smoker, but I am one. I don't get upset at not being able to smoke in a restaurant, I do get upset at those who smoke on subway platforms next to clearly posted "no smoking" signs. I don't expect to be able to light up at a friend's place, and I don't mind going ou

An Ubisoft asset?
-
Before anyone overreacts... It's just a game. There have been no published facts that can be corroborated as to the status of GR2. Ubisoft logically should pursue the console crowd first, based on basic fiscal responsibility. That's all we have, gents and ladies. GR2 does not exist in any real way, not at this point.
-
You need to start a new campaign for each expansion pack. Under campaign, choose "new campaign" and then select the mission pack to play under.

I downloaded some financial reports from the Ubi Corporate site, to see if I could find anything new about GR2. I didn't. What I did find was that in 2002, Ubi made 30% of it's money from PC games, and the other full 70% was from consoles. In 2003, PC games only brought in 23%, with console income rising to 74%, the other 3% being from Ubi.com-based revenue streams. Console sales are pushing the PC crowd rapidly down the tree in importance. At 37%, the PS2 platform was Ubi's best market this year.

I've heard tell of people running the Windows server under linux with WineX. Otherwise, there's no actual linux support for GR.

I loved that game on my C64. Played it endlessly.

It is a reference to the movie Equilibrium, where the "police" are highly trained martial artists, but using guns instead of the normal melee weapons. A rather interesting movie, actually. It's essentially a reworked Farenheit 451, with a lot of intricate action sequences. A worthwhile rent for both action fans who also get into the sociological thriller movies, like Gattaca or 1984.
