  1. Thanks guys, that did it. I have been sorting this out for TeamSpeak as well and now with that info I can pass the TeamSpeak Connection test. Now to see if I can host a game... Cheers Del
  2. ok...fixed the pinging issue, a tickbox in the router setup "allow ping" so that's nice. But I still cannot create a game that my mates can join. I know it is possible because I typed inteh IP of a couple of servers listed in the GR Games room and they immediately showed the ping, users etc in the server table. Any clues anyone? Cheers Del
  3. Hi there Been a long time since I posted here and just as long since I played GR! My mates and I were huge GR1 players -mainly LANing - and now want to play again. We have been trying to set up a multiplayer game online following the instructions pinned above. However, we're having some difficulties. First of all I setup portforwarding on my d-link RTA1335 according to the instructions on Portforwarding.com (I used the 1320 as they are the same machine basically) here is screenie of the setup hopefully that's ok. Then I create a game in the internet tab of Multiplayer with all the settings etc but when he types in my external IP nothing shows in his server table. Also i can ping his router but he cannot ping mine. Could that be an issue? Thanks for your help on this Del
  4. ok...started a thread over on a 3D Graphics forum I belong to about the SP2 -Max issue Discreet say exists. Got four replys from senior members who say both max5 and max6 are working ok under SP2. Take from that what you will. Del
  5. Anybody here with a hands on experience with SP2 and 3ds Max? that statement on the discreet website is the only thing holding me back from downloading the new service pack. Ditto for that. I can't have $$$ worth of software sitting useless! well I'm a bit scared to see really! I've got a new machine arriving soon at work (dual Xeon system) and 3dsmax7 with it. Once that arrives I will update my home computer to SP2 and see what it does to max 5 and 6. And yes, I occasionally do a bit of GR modding at work . Whats the point of only using a flash work computer for work?

This may interest some modders (or not), direct from the Discreet Site: "Although Discreet Testing and Product Support have not identified any specific problems to date, in some cases 3ds max 6 may not function as expected under Windows XP Service Pack 2. Therefore, Discreet recommends that 3ds max 6 be run under Windows XP SP1. NOTE: Discreet has identified major issues with the functionality of 3ds max 5 and older on Windows XP SP2, and support advises all clients to not install this service pack due to software stability problems that will occur."   8. hey can anyone out there offer insight into an error my max5 is telling me when I try to click on a texture in material editor. The error window says "image I/o error" and in the window itself "invalid image file header". It seems to only do this for rsb's from IT expansion pack. It's started doing it since I reinstalled last week (license probs). I've put all the plugins etc from the IT CD in as per Mike Schnell's (sp?) tuts. Any clues before I do a reinstall?

Some of you will be saying "big deal" but for someone (newbie map maker) who has been trying to make water appear in his island map for a while this is a huge relie!
  10. ok. bum. I'm very sorry to keep on with this , but I cannot get this to work. Could some one please check what I doing is ok. I'll run through what I've been doing to try and make water. I've given up on my Island map until I can get this basic one working: 1. Create scenecenter and shermanlevelheight as per levelbuilder pdf 2. Create Quadpatch 400m x 400m 3. Convert to Editable Mesh 4. tag it as a floor poly with Sand in mapeditor 5. add sand material rsb from D01 Beach 6. drag up one vertice to make conical hill that's the ground made 7. create plane 400m x 400m 8. raise it 0.5m 9. tag it as water (not floor poly) in mapeditor 10. add water material rsb from D01 Beach 11. group water and sand as _1 12. export (ensuring all textures and roomlist are in map folder) 13. start Igor, make env file using CP02 Island, then saving to map folder 14. new mission, select isle.env 15 CTD (if I don't make the water plane and export after step 6 everything works fine and I can make a mission and run it in GR.) please take deep breath and realise that I am a super-newbie when it comes to making maps. I've got plenty of Max experience though. any ideas will be greatly recieved Del

  12. I'm still not sure what to do. Why, if the level.pdf says " don't tag this surface mesh in Map Editor", does it then go on to call it a floor? Does that water need to be part of a room? and the sand? Does it need to be flat? Can the water be a plane cutting through the terrain? any help wold be greatly appreciated. Del
  13. Hi all would someone be so kind as to point me to a "how to make water" tutorial? Or give me some tips on making a beach around an island? I've looked at the Level maker pdf from RSE, looked around these forums, tried Smart Tools, but I can't get my Island to have water that doesn't crash Igor. Cheers Del

  18. Anyone know where I can find Mike Schells (sp?) tutorial for 3dsmax map making? The Platoon link is dead. Or, in fact, any other tutorial (other than the one in the Recon section) that would be helpful to a pre-beginner map maker like myself?
  19. jimney cricket I hope someone DOES make a GR plugin for max6...I've spent hours and hours of my bosses time learning how to use it. Seems a waste of all that time wasting...
  20. I've got MAX 6 and can confirm that it is indeed incompatable with the required pugins. *sigh* anyone know of how to go about solving this?

  24. Damn it...I hate when people say stuff like that. it's like someone looking at your birthday presents and saying "oh man you are gonna love this...it's the greatest present ever. But you can't have it now" ARRRRGGH! BTW is it just me or does it seem there has been a dearth of new Mods lately? i've got a feeling the floodgates are going to burst soon and we are going to get several off-the-shelf quality Mods at once... *dribbles on keyboard in expectation* mmmmm mods
