I just down loaded the following info from ATI:
ATI OVERDRIVE Temperature Ranges
The ATI OVERDRIVE control panel lets users safely maximize the performance level of their graphics processor. ATI OVERDRIVE intelligently determines the optimal speed of the graphics processor by constantly monitoring the temperature of the graphics processor, ensuring that it always stays at a safe level.
The graphics processor frequency levels are stated below:
RADEON 9600 XT
527 MHz 0°C-47°C
513 MHz 44°C-67°C
500 MHz 64°C-127°C
RADEON 9800 XT
419 MHz 0°C- 59°C
412 MHz 56°C - 127°C
Are these "safe" operating ranges? A 7 MHz increase in core speed means the max safe temp is 59 C ? But if the 9800 xt is running at stock core speed,(412 MHz) it can safely go up to 127 C?

I must contradict my previous post. C3 is not as good as C2. Personally, if you have never played C2, get it. You can pick it up super cheap and it is clearly a superior product to C3. Pick up C3 when it becomes a bargain bin item. My problem with C3 is that instaed of having a whole list of objectives to complete and you can kinda pick and choose how to complete them , in C3 you only get one objective at a time. Maybe some people like that. Graphics wise, C3 is very good. Having the hot keys back will help.
C2 is simply a better game.

.....buy the strategy guide and read it cover to cover....play thru the training levels in the game until you have them mastered...then play the first mission over and over using different guns, tactics and squad sizes...but remember...this is not a run and gun.....you must be patient and take your time and develop a solid strategy to complete your objectives....in doing so you will learn to play the game correctly and not get overly frustrated......play single player alot before spending alot of time online.....playing against human opponents is MUCH harder than anything you'll see in single player......when you develop your squad(s), think about how many guys you really need.....taking 6 all the time will result in alot of KIA'S.......also, once you determine the total soldiers needed, take time to think about how they will be arranged into squads....my general tactics outdoors is:
1)-scout ahead with sniper
2)-cover/conceal until all teams are in position
3)-suprise enemy
4)-hit enemy with overwhelming force in a cross fire
Thats ideal.Sometimes it works other times it does not, just like real life. Be careful how many guys you take indoors. AI tend to not be able to negotiate doorways, corners and so forth very well. Silienced wepaons are great, but they have reduced killing power. Some require several shots to drop an enemy.
Good luck!!!!

yeah, I uninstalled 3.7 and rebooted then installed 4.2. I also, for laughs and giggles, uninstalled/reinstalled cod.....I have seen advice saying fastwrites/trilinear may be the issue in regards to ATI cards and cod....any truth to that?...I'll certainly try that but I bet I won't have any love from cod until it sees cat 3.7 or 3.10.....
-
I recently upgraded my cats from 3.7 to 4.2. All seemed well as I played through MOHAA, Raven Shield and RTCW. But, when I play COD, it hard locks after about 10 seconds of play. I have been reading and it is an ATI driver issue. Question is, what is the best solution. It seems that cat 3.10 or even cat 3.7 run COD fine, at least no hard locks. Any ideas / advice?

I'll get that to ya......it'll be a day or two....

...I finished playing through it last night....the only missions that did not ctd were 1,4,5 and 8 I think off the top of my head....man the one thats set on the small map with the guest house/chalet...god, that was a great map/excellent mission...damn ctd.....but I know you need the ike log info...... -
40 mission campaign...oh yeah
......I live for seeing that kinda mod!!!!
..... -
I have had ctd in missions 2 and 3...mission one played fine.....got IT and DS activated....using GR version 1.4...mod is patched to 2.0a...I dunno.....great selection of skins/weapons....wish I could figure out the ctd problem.....

-
makes sense.....I'll check it out...thanks.....

Just wanted to take a moment to thank snakebite1967 for his help with some bugs I had in my new rig. He took the time to answer several questions and give me some guidance. Its nice to see people willing to lend a hand.Hopefully, I can do the same for someone.

well, down to my final tweak on my new pc.......it currently runs dx 9.0a on windows me...I downloaded the 9.0b file for those who do not have internet access...uh, I am at work right now
...anyway...I ran the 9.0b file and it said that basically there were no files to update...I know my pc has 9.0a and I know the file I downloaded was 9.0b....what gives?
.... -
on the gameplay tab there is an option to enable/disable the threat indicator...
-
crap.....man I have like 12 gig of GR.....I really feel sorry for ya....I have all my stuff backed up on cd's and on a backup hard drive...but even so...it would take forever to reinstall everything...epsecially when you start thinking about all the patches and updates to stuff....

-
...didn't see this mentioned anywhere...did you install the small patch for CO2?......
..its like 201 kb's...... -
mods....mods....mods......heck, even take a crack at opening IGOR and make a few of your own missions.....its really fairly user friendly and there are plenty of helpful people here!!!
