  1. I recently installed GR (DS AND IT) on my new pc. I am a veteran player and have played through the campaigns/mods countless times. Here is my problem and I have never seen anything like it: I noticed on mission 3, the one where you have to prevent NATO casualities, the tanks never come down the road. They just sit there at the edge of the map. Then on mission 8, the battlefield one where you have to protect the friendly tank, it also never goes down the road. The friendly soldiers are all standing around at the edge of the map. The friendly tank is there, off the map but never moves. Further, the T-80 that gets napalmed shortly after the start of the mission also sits still and never rolls to the napalm trigger zone. ######?

These are all bone stock missions. No mods of any kind are being run. I of course have not altered the missions in any way. Now on my old pc, these missions play out fine. I checked the scripting on the new pc and the scripting is correct.

With that being said, let me add one more note. My new pc has had booting issues. It will hang at the windows home edition screen or sometimes at the blue welcome sceen. When it loads windows successfully, it runs fine. The only thing I can think of is that its a bad install of GR. But other than the issue mentioned above, GR runs fine. I will of course try a reinstall, but wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on this. My specs on the new pc for whats its worth:

    FX 53 / 939 pin-no oc

    asus a8v / wireless edition

    american megatrends bios-rev 1006

    liteon cd-rw

    liteon dvd

western digital SATA 120 gig/7200 rpm/8 mb cache

sound blaster audigy 2 zs-latest driver

    ati x 800 xt p.e.-cat 4.8-no oc

    1 gig mushkin ram-pc 3200-blue series-settings on auto

    enermax 600 watt noisetaker

    windows home edition-service pack 1

    dx 9.0b

As a side note, I am about ready to throw the SATA drive out the window :wall: .Honestly, trying to install the OS on one of these is a pain in the butt. Give me a good ole IDE drive anytime. The "performance" gain is not worth the hassle.

    Thanks!!!!

  2. @matt03-I respect your opinion, but I must disagree. If we apply that logic, questions would follow such as : Does watching violent tv do the same thing? How about violent music? If a kid plays football, does that make them violent? Does watching the evening news make them violent? How about violent cartoons?

I remember reading about a guy who beat his girlfriend to death with a coffee mug. Does drinking from a coffee mug make people violent? I hope not or I am as crazy as anyone! :P My point is that things like video games, coffee mugs, cartoons and anything else you care to mention are not violent nor do they cause violence. People cause violence. Parents need to lay off blaming everything under the sun and take responsibility for the well being of their kid. In doing so, their kids will grow up to be well adjusted adults. I am a parent and I will say that I am by far not a perfect dad, but the quality of parenting I see in my daily life makes me want to puke.

We, as a society, like to blame everything and everyone but ourselves. Human nature I guess. IMHO. ;)

  3. I got GR a few months after it came out. At the time I was going through a divorce, so I spent many a night playing GR till the sun came up. I only have read bits and pieces of what appears to be going on with GR2. I think UBI/RedStorm believe that if they dumb down GR2 they can increase its appeal to a larger market and get more $$$$ put in the piggy bank. While dumbing it down may in fact increase its appeal to the casual gamer / console type gamer, it will ###### off the hard core players like us. Corporations have a way for fudging up the simpliest, most obvious things....****cough****Raven Shield. I worked for a very large corporation and I can tell you the decisions and conclusions reached at alot of the meetings were simply retarded.Gotta love groupthink.

Anyway, as we all know time marches on(can't wait to build a pc around the socket 939 / amd 64 bit 3800 and an ati radeon x800 xt-pe). I personally can't wait to play Stalker and of course hl2 / doom III. There have been alot of very good games that have come and gone and GR is still around. For me, GR2 is simple. I will withold final judgement till I have a copy in hand. If I do not like it and feel it is not a worthy successor to GR, back it goes to the store.

No matter how much they apparently are fudging up GR2, they can never take GR from us. If they do fudge it up, I'll drop my $49.99 on another game.

  4. sounds like there is still a trace of your previous install somewhere in the registry.......I have a program called registry first aid that helps me keep my registry clean and correct with out me having to go in and manually tweak it....it costs like $20......maybe someone else here with more knowledge than me can shed some light on it.....

  5. all the stuff running in the background, what can I shut down and what do I need to leave on? I was, ****cough*****,running ME and it was easy to do that. I would just run msconfig and uncheck the bottom two boxes on the first tab and all the stupid crap would not load at startup. XP is a little different and I don't want to screw anything up. :(

  6. I have just installed XP Home Edition on my pc. I thought I recalled there being an issue where the refresh rate was capped. Is this true and how do I get around it? Is this something fixed in a service pack (ordered the cd from microsoft) or is it a tweak I can do in Windows?

  7. I have to say I stumbled across stalker and outside of GR2 and Band of Brothers, I have not been this excited about a game release since RTCW....the screenshots were incredible as is the storyline and gameplay....I don't know anything about the studios developing/publishing the game.....but I will be getting this one....its been in development for a while so hopefully the game will be polished upon release....heck we may have this game in hand before hl2 and doom III.....

  8. I finally bit the bullet and decided to upgrade to XP...anyway..I know I wanna do fdisk...what type of file format should I do with XP Home edition?...I know that XP has a refresh rate cap issue....how do I fix that?.....and finally, what is the most current service pack I should install?..thanks.....

  9. I got everything installed last night and took a crack at afrika korps desert rats mission....WOW!!!....beautiful map...I was amazed at the beauty of the German airplanes (ME 109's, I think)...this mission was tricky...you are riding in the back of a jeep to start and have to use a "bazooka" to nail two fighters tring to take off...actually the first flies right over your head and then there is one on your left...its tricky getting the first and then swinging around to get the one going down the runway on your left...damn reticles! :P ......great mission/map..can't wait to play the rest...guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend!!!! :o=

  10. if you can, get a hand built pc....if you don't know how...ask a friend...its really not that hard if you have some basic computer knowledge and the willingness to learn...companies like dell, gateway are good for non gamers because of their support...however for the dollar spent, the hardware one gets is laughable....as far as parts, I would go AMD....you can a good xp 2500(barton core) for like $75 and a good asus mb for around $100-$120........this will give you the foundation for a solid and reliable performer for the least money......oh...Newegg.com is the best place to buy computer parts online...IMHO.....

  11. Collector*AFZ*.....my first pc was a HP Pavilion...1 gig anthlon cpu and a VIA chipset based MB....I stuck in a Geforce mx 420/64 mb, 512 mb of PNY ram and a sound blaster 512....it runs most stuff well and thats with high settings....pick up something similiar to what I have.....it will be "cheap"....heck I'd crank up your ram to 512 too....that won't cost alot either....as far as the onboard video...no problema...simply go into your BIOS(or CMOS, same thing)....not sure what key you hit to get into BIOS...F1..I think..at bootup...and disable the onboard video....carefully install your new PCI video card and reboot and install drivers from the cd that came with your card......
