  1. First collapse the modifier stack. Do this by right clicking and click convert to editable poly. THen apply your texture. Press m and click the button beside diffuse. Pick bitmap, and navigate to the texture file, and pikc a texture. Now click the little button (hover over to see what the buttons do) taht says apply texture. Then click the little cube with checkers on it that says show mnap in viewport. You should see the texture in max. Then click modifiers>uvw map>UVW mapping modifier. Then if its a box click the box button in the menu on the right column. If its flatish then just leave planer. Read my tutorial on the below link. Its a tutorial about texturing. You might find it helpful. Those are just the very basic manipulation of the UVW mapping modifier, more in the tutorial below.

    Complex UV mapping.

Also check the recon section of the site for good tutorials.

Thanks so much!! It was the uvw map modifier that helped me. Even when I applied the texture and clicked the "show map in viewport" button it didn't show up, but as soon as I added the uvw map it just popped up right away then I just clicked on box and it popped right into place! You really helpled me alot now I can move on. I'm using gr as a stepping stone so I can eventually move onto the newer games like GR:AW and so on. I will checkout your tutorial link that you posted also. Thanks again!

  2. Ok, I'm a total noob at max but I have gone through some of the tut's in max and mike schell's 2 room tut as well as papa 6 world plane tut. I put them in one scene and I textured the 400m x 400m world plane just fine and it shows up in max, igor and the game. For some reason when I try to texture the 2 rooms, they won't show up! all it does is change to some weird color that shows up in max and the game. I have redone the rooms soooo many time trying to figure out what the problem is but don't see it. I do have the "show map in viewport" button in the mat. editor checked, so it not that. I noticed that when I texture the boxes when I first make them and even when I flip the normals the texture shows up, but as soon as I add the edit mesh modifier the texture disapears! Does it have to do with topology? I also downloaded a test map with 2 rooms and textured them just fine and they had all the modifiers applied allready, so what is it with my rooms? Any help any one can give me would be much appreciated, I just want to get passed this and move on allready.

    thx
