Since I never really dealt with Gamespy Arena before (before last April I played all of my games on a MAC), what's the deal with it? How does it work?
-
Right on... a few of you have mentioned it...single shots are back!!! Love it. Way more effective. The way it should be. I may have switched to single shot 5 times in all my hours of GRAW 1. Now I barely have full auto selected.
Maybe 1 or 2 more hand frags for those kits that have them.
Reduce or remove red-dot indicator.. use a cross hair flashing or something similar to indicate a hit.
Would love to see kills/deaths in the weapon/team selection screen.
Draw distance needs to be increased. (Beats a dead horse)
Claymores?
Spotted Enemies in TDM show up on the Tactical Map. No red diamond ...just a blip on the map. Someone mentioned it earlier. Really makes a lot of sense, and would get more of a team situation working in TDM.
+'s
The sounds are f'n amazing. Movement sounds for players may be a bit high, but quality, accuracy and ehoes....amazing.
Graphics rock.
Rx4... Love this gun.
Smooth play for a demo.
Eagerly awaiting the final!!!!!

Something I noticed tonight going from GRAW2 demo to GRAW1. GRAW 2 looks better, and has a great stlye of play, but it seems a bit laggy or sluggish opposed to GRAW1. GRAW1 just seems to play smoother and more fluid. Anyone else get the same impression? Do you think this is something that has to do directly with it being a demo?

When Mitchell retires he could pitch for the Yankees....I forgot to check the light lobbing of grenades while crouched.... Anyone notice this one yet?We have enough over the hill arms that have sub-par velocity. I would rather see Mitchell from GR1 pitch...guy could throw a nade 200 ft...might make a good pitcher.
-
A few more:
Red dot blob when you hit an enemy - Maybe the crossairs of the ret can flash and you can see the blood spray more? I would rather see my bullets hit the target.
An option for saving replays. This is huge for match play and public servers. You can actually save a replay of the whole game, like GR1 and you are able to switch and see through the eyes of any player. THis allows the ability to really check against hackers/cheaters/glitchers. It cuts down on "questionable" happenings, and also allows teams to orchestrate better tactics in matchplay.
I forgot to check the light lobbing of grenades while crouched. It would be that it was only possible to lob it a few feet while crouched, mostly resulting in an accidental death. Feedback after I play tonight. Anyone notice this one yet?

Some great posts above....criticism meant to be constructive! Body/Hit damage that means something. Slowed movement/limping/knock downs/becoming dazed....would be awesome. Less hits to kill??? Random/mutiple insertion zones in TvT!!
This would be a huge step towards really polishing up this game anf filling in any holes. Large missing pieces from the series or any game that would be considered a Tactical Combat shooter. Still a great job so far...can't wait to see the final product.

Played for a bit last night. Impressed with fixes and advancements more than dissapointed about the negatives. I do realize this is a Demo, so note that I do hope that the final product will smooth out most of the wrinkles.
1. Graphics look great, especially with post effects on high.
2. The sounds are awesome. Great job with the weapon sounds & explosions, running & footsteps. Sniper sounds rock!! Echoes are awesome too.
**** Noticed a glitch in the sound of theG36, and the Pistol that comes with the first sniper Kit. The sound seems to lag a bit behind the bullets. I fire and see the muzzle flash, and the sound seems a bit delayed/chopped off similar to what was happening with the mounted gun in the previous release....that seems to be fixed.
Sound Card isn't detected on startup of GRAW 2, and the setting doesn't hold after it is applied and the game is relaunched.
3. I love that you can go straight into a crawl from a full sprint. Great addition...(I think I noted that during beta as well).
4. DRAW DISTANCE. THis needs to be fixed if at all possible. It is cut down from GRAW 1. Not good. I tested it with Peace*AFZ* last night. I was using the M99 sniper rifle, and we noticed a draw distance on people at 150m 489-490 ft. I think on GRAW 1 it was 500ft if I'm correct?? Personally I would like to see draw distance with human characters to match that of objects/buildings. If you can see a building you should be able to see a person...even if faded or blurred. I am not totally familiar with the game engine, and have not seen this noted in detail in the thread(unless I missed the post) but if at all possible to fix, it would greatly improve this game.
5. Game seems a bit choppy, even when I turn most of my settings to medium (firing a weapon doesnt seem so smooth) but I am chalking that up to this being a not fully optimized Demo) Don't get me wrong it is pretty smooth, but I'm sure it can be improved upon a bit. I would like to run everything high and see the game in all its glory.
6. Server browser can not be sorted.
7. I love the multiple kit load outs on the different classes. I know a few of my clan mates did not particulary like it, they liked the customized kits in GRAW1. I would like to see even more of a variety, but like the idea of not being able to have the best of all worlds in your kit load out.
8. I like that you cut down the amount of GL's in a kit. Maybe this will promote servers to host full kits instead of the rampant "No GL's" in GRAW1.
9. I know Bo said SLI support is built in, but after I installed and the compatability utility ran, it said I only has 512 VRAM installed. I have 1024 in SLI. It would be nice to actually see the detection in the utility and in game so there are no questions to it. I would hpe that with 2 x 512 7950 GT OC's that I could run all settings on high and still get 50+ fps.
10. Wish there was one more map to really see what is in store.

11 It would be nice to see more Stats recapped after a round. Kills - Grenade Kills - Hit Percentage - Status (dead, wounded, healthy) Bullets fired - grenades fired - grenades thrown...etc.
Great job GRIN...I'm sure as I notice more I will be back to spill some more.....just some observations from a GRAW fan, maybe some of them can assist.

Very Nice Job Boys. Looking forward to seeing it in action in the coming weeks.

for the rest same ol same old. graphics etc.
"even the same useless Ageia dirver to download, LAMO.
360 GRAW2 is better thatn the PC's graphics?

I would break out my N64 and play Goldeneye again before I would play a 3rd person shooter.
Takes real skill to have a 360º free view of your own body.
Gameplay is the most important thing here, and GRAW 2 seems to be right on target.
Truth .

Just my 2¢ as I state the obvious. Forgive me if I repeat anything already posted, I'm at work, and quickly scanning the thread.
Two games I can think off the top of my head that allow you to dl and immediately join are the Call of Duty series and Counter Strike Source. If I'm not mistaken, you could do it in Raven Shield as well (I only played RVS on the Mac, and the dl's were rarely on). Benefit: You find a server you like, and join up, dl the content and go right in. When the server lists are long, it takes away the tedious task of finding the server you just dl'd the content from in the server list. It also allows you to join the game you just dl'd the content to, instead of having to restart the whole game again.

Too many times in GRAW have I dl'd a server map only to restart and the server is on a new map, or the map is almost done.

Auto activation of dl's also keeps people from shying away because they may not have a certain map, and don't feel like waiting for a game restart.
I would love to see this implemented in GRAW 2... modded maps make for some of the best games...also promotes the longevity of a game...the easier it is for people to join servers with customs...the more activity it will receive.
Server info that relays more info would be real nice. Map list ect. "DL all Server Maps" option would be cool. When the dl's are complete, a "Restart and Join Selected Server" button would work.
Back to work!!!

@ GRIN - is the estimated availability date on the Fileplanet Download manager accurate? Are they completely off base? I know you probably can't commit to an answer, but an obscure hint would fuel the debate.

Release date for the Demo and way of releasing it is all in the hands of UBI, not Grin. Just like it was with the Beta release date and organization. UBI does all the marketing.
Well aware of that. Who do you think is going to create the demo? Not Ubi. Just a facetious question I asked, in the hopes of maybe getting a hint to a more specific release time.

On fileplanet download manager it said :Est.date available:Wed,Jun 20,2007.
I will be pessimistic and go with this date... DL manager for filplanet says exactly that.

From the experience with the beta, the screens and the gameplay preview video, it looks like it is going to be pretty sweet. As long as the bugs are worked out and it can be matched... content add ons can come later, without worrying about fixes. Really looking forward to this one. Hopefully its on time....a clean complete product is more important.... Keep up the good work GRIN..patiently awaiting the release.

I agree. This game is right on the threshold. Saving replays is huge...especially for match play. Open/close doors would be great as well.

Can someone else test it? Most of my design apps, like Flash, are on my Macs and I don't have Flash for the PC. I can't test it. I am curious to see if this is a PC thing. Have you ever tried this before Rocky? Did you try the files that I tried? Copy of main.fla?
-
In Flash it's dimensions are clearly stated in the properties, but when I paste into PSP it's obviously smaller, and the properties confirm the dimensions are not the same.

What format is it when you load it up in PSP?
I guess another reason could be that it has been coded in flash to be a certain size when the actual image is actually smaller, like in HTML coding, you can have a small image, but make it bigger through specifying the image size in the <img src=""></img> tags. Other than that, it's beyond me. I use PSP all the time but have never had the rescaling problem you mentioned.
Unless Flash's dimensions scale are different to those of PSP? As in, for example with 3DSM, you build something with the unit scale set to centimetres. Then you re-set the unit scale to inches and start over but build it in the same dimensions. Then, when you merge it into the same scene as the first one (in cm's) it will be alot bigger than the first one.
@WytchDokta - If the image was actually smaller in the Flash document than it was displaying in the properties it would look all blown out and crappy when placed in the workspace in flash.
As for your comparison w/ 3DSM.... 3DSM deals with 3 dimentional space. If you start your work area in CMs and merge into inches it would make a difference, your objects would automatically become much smaller. It would actually apply to any design app or page layout app.
When you are dealing with pixel based images, the unit of measurement isn't what you are concerning yourself with if you are basing your image off of dpi. If you are dealing with an image that is 620 x 700 and pasting it into a 620 x 700 document in Photoshop, you should have the same exact result. The document is based off of pixels and not ruled units such as cm's or inches. Now if I was dealing with units of measurement that were the same but different resolution, then the problem happens. Say 8.5 x 11 document 72 dpi....I place that image into an 8.5 x 11 document that is 300 dpi, the pasted image would be about 1/4 the size on that 300 dpi workspace, because the document is based on the 8.5 x 11. An 8.5 x 11 in doc at 72 dpi = 612 x 792 dpi, while an 8.5 x 11 in doc at 300 dpi = 2550 x 3300.
On the other hand a 72 dpi image at 612 x 792 is the same size as a 612 x 792 at 300 on screen, but when you go to print them....the 612 x 792 @ 72 will give you an 8.5" x 11" Image at 100% and the 612 x 792 @ 300 dpi would give you a 2.04" x 2.64" print at 100% size.
I ramble. Back to the point.
Rocky: I try opening main.fla, and I get a Flash cannot open this document message. I am using Flash MX Professional 2004.
So I am tryin this with "Copy of main.fla"
I am assuming in this doc that the bitmap labeled "e1_00060.jpg" is the same as the one you are tryin to mess with.
I see no problem. I copied and pasted into PSCS2 a few different times, and got the same 620 by 700 as labeled in Flash. Actually it pasted in as 622 x 702, but I just "Image-->Canvas Size" and cropped it back to the right size. I also messed with the preferences in Flash to see if it was the Clipboard setting, and it didn't make a difference for me there either, unless you are printing the image. Then if you want it to print as large as possible, make sure you are pasting it into a 72dpi doc and not a 300. It would print much smaller if the doc was set above 72 dpi in PS.
If this is not the case, I do not see a problem....I will pm you a link to the image I have. Let me know if this is what you need.
-
hmmm a bit wierd...I will check on that when I get to work tomorrow.

Edit:
If you could get a hold of the actual swf file you would be able to create a new Flash doc in flash, import the swf(provided it isn't protected from import) and break it out into frames. Then export to an image sequence or a gif.
I see only one other way, but it would be much more of a hassle. Use a video capture tool. PLay the animation while capturing it to a file. Then with a compositing tool, ( I would use Apple Motion, or Adobe After Effects), you could crop out the animation, and export it to an image sequence. Open it up in Image Ready, and create your GIF animation from there. Seems like too much work for what I assume will be an avatar or signature. GL.
Didn't know that guys....then again, I never tried to work around it.

Cool man. Glad I could be of some assistance. Good luck with it.

.zip me the package, let me check it out. Email is in my profile.
Which one are you trying to edit? Nevermind...just read your earlier post again.
OK.....so it seems that the original image files are not included in the package, therefore you cannot link them to the original as is. Here is what you can do:
Find the image you want to edit in your library.
Drag it onto the workspace from the library.
Now, with the image in the workspace, you select it by clicking on it, and Edit---->Copy.
Open up external Image editor. I did in both Photoshop and Fireworks.
New Document.
Both PS and FW both should create a new document exactly to the size of your clipboard.
Paste.
Save as (same name it is in Flash) ex. e3_00002.jpg
I saved it to a new folder I created (e3) inside the main directory you gave me (5981)
Go back into Flash and double click on the image in the Library palette.
Click the update button. Find the image in the directory you saved it in.
Click OK.
Now when you Right click on that element in the Flash Library window, you should have an option of opening it in the external editor of your choice.
Let me know how it works out.

Possible Hack
in GR:AW 2 (PC) - General Discussion
Posted · Edited by Cell*AFZ*
Is it possible you heard him late? Remember this is a DEMO!!!! It is not fully optimized. There are laggy pockets here and there where guys hop across the screen.
There is no dedicated server for regular Joes that host from their house. So lag has been an issue.
Last night we were playing TDM on one of the UK servers, and some sore loser was going on and on about hacks. Its BS...just play the game. It seems to me that a lot of younger players can't deal with the fact that they might not be good at something, so they automatically accuse people of hacking. Grow up and take your beatdown with dignity. (Not directed at anyone in this thread).
This is a demo...there will be CD Key bans once the full game comes out...just like in GRAW 1. It would be a shame to start smearing this game while it is in an early free public demo phase.
I am ranting because I guess I may have missed something. I hadn't played for a few days, then I log in last night, and there are multiple people complaining about hacks and whatnot. Then I went to the Gamestop site this morning, to see when I can expect to pick up GRAW 2, and in the comments section there was a complaint about hacking. I have played this game from the beta, and have not noticed anything.I have actually found an improvement, with bullet kill trades and other head on issues. Maybe I have not come across it yet, maybe some people are whiny bitches....not sure.
