  1. Duke Nukem, a game way ahead of it's time. Think of the interaction--reflection in the mirror, working toilets, sinks, drinking fountains, great one liners, ladies, and probably the best closing audio of any video game ;) . Tactics wise, Rainbow series even with the somewhat stiff ai back then, it was good training for slicing the pie and being aware of your surroundings.

  2. If GR2 was to come to pc as a console port--won't that affect ability to mod or script? Anyone think of any decent ports to pc that had an editor came with it? As for alternatives of what to play--I've seen many games promoted but I don't get excited anymore unless they release a demo with most of the games features available in it and I can try it out first hand. No demo-no buy. Maybe budgie will be kind enough to share his hostesses.

  3. Dannik they advertised the hek for pc on front page last Sept to help sell Halo. I know normally, a port will not have an editor come with, but one was promised for this. I loved the game/physics used in halo, merely pointing out that one needs to be aware. Bottom line is, it will be each gamer's personal decision whether to buy. If an editor ships with BIA and they release a demo to try the game and I like it, I will probably buy it. If only a promise of a later release of an editor is mentioned, I won't touch it. The devs are playing it close to the vest about any editor/sdk right now for BIA.

  4. While the game does look interesting, remember both UBI/Gearbox failed to provide sdk as promised for Ravenshield/Halo PC (not CE which is mp only). I don't map, so being able to script new missions, place objects in new areas is important to me. So if game ships without an editor but only a promise of one, I will pass. For those who have tried halo (which is a riot, especially with the ai dialogue), I liked the way the warthog handled with the physics--I think it would transfer nicely to BIA, but I can't forget the recent track record of both companies involved. For SP only types like me, if all you get is the original missions, I can wait for it to go to the bargain bin and buy for 10 instead of 50 dollars.

  5. Banff I know, the other 2 don't stick out in my memory. Too busy drinking in the view when I was up there. Always crossed over at the border station nw of Glacier Nat'l Park. My last trip through there was about 6-7 years ago.

Chems, enjoy your trip, lots of beautiful country in Canada. My lone close encounter I mentioned previously was on a crosscountry backpacking trip and I probably scared the bear as much as he did me. I was flyfishing a stream and he was busy digging for bugs and tubers--neither of us realizing the other was there until we were about 70 yards apart. Things you should be more concerned about is getting down from high places when the afternoon thunderstorms roll in--you have a greater chance of being hit by lightning than you do a bear attack.

  6. Chems, can definitley help you on this one. I live in Colorado but have spent quite a bit of time hiking and flyfishing in Wyoming, Montana and the Canadian Rockies. Black bears are fairly shy and will normally run off when they hear you approach, unless they have cubs with them then they are protective and can be aggressive. Grizzilies will bluff charge you--run at you then stop--may repeat several times--experienced this first hand while fishing in the Beartooth Mountains between Wyoming/Montana a few years ago. Don't play dead--they found people were killed more often or mauled worse when going in a fetal postion. Back up slowly, talk softly and avoid eye contact.

On the fun side, from a Ranger campfire talk years ago that had everyone laughing.

Camper"how do you tell the difference between a black bear and a grizzly bear?"

Ranger" kick it in the behind, if it climbs a tree it's a black bear, if you climb the tree, it's a grizzly"

Ranger" and in closing my talk this evening please remember the most important thing about hiking in bear country, always hike with at least one person who runs slower than you".

Insaneflyingmonkey, I'm jealous--you live in a pretty area up there.

  7. Good move Para, it'd be a waste of your hard earned money. If you are looking to do law enforcement in the area you currently live in so you don't have to move, go to the local agencies themselves and ask what they require of their applicants. If a city or county is large enough, they will most likely have their own academy and you need only to apply. If you are looking at a smaller size city/county, some actually will pay for employees to get trained at the state runned academy if your state has one--not all do.

  8. Definitely a different type of game. For GR players, stealth aspect of it should be second nature to you by now. I made it all the way up to the top where the dish was before getting killed--don't worry it saves regular at checkpoints. Finding the silenced and I do mean silenced mp5 makes life much easier. Graphics were very enjoyable--lovely water. Ran fine on my nvidia 5900, all settings but shadows on high. Boxes move when bumped, barrels roll. Vehicle handling is tough for me. Wish they made it so mouse handled turning. Didn't see the chopper only heard it approach as I went and hid. It's a long download, even on my dsl. Word to the wise, crouch often and move through the brush--ai doesn't have xray vision--use your knife when possible. After firing--move--they check the area not just where shot was from. Headshots are best, one shot kills rare except from sniper rifle(mp5 will if close enough and at right angle shooting up from crouched postion.) Not sure I'll buy the game, will have to play the demo some more before deciding. This is not a realism game--strictly one for enjoyment/pleasure.

  9. I wander back to the forums and what do I see--XS, old sea dog playing a run n gunner game. Shame on you, a man of your age, you ought to be ashamed :nono: . I ordered my copy about 15 minutes after I finished the demo--had to recover from the laughter it caused :rofl::-"

  10. Did you hold on to the actor (atr) file I showed you with a rifleman with the bandanna attachment? If so, then you need only to use patrolcap attachment instead of the bandanna attachment I used. Remember what I told you--create an attachment file to stick your attachments into and a texture file to put bjb's attachment rsb into.

Here's file with patrol cap attachment (it's rifleman 1 actor file)

    <ActorFile>

    <VersionNumber>1.000000</VersionNumber>

    <ArmorLevel>2</ArmorLevel>

    <FolderName>us_rifleman</FolderName>

    <ActorName>Corey Moss</ActorName>

    <ClassName>rifleman</ClassName>

    <ModelFace>icg_blk_cmo_01.rsb</ModelFace>

    <BlinkFaceName>icg_blk_cmo_01_blink.rsb</BlinkFaceName>

    <ActionFaceName>aface_rfl_blk_cmo_01.rsb</ActionFaceName>

    <ShellFaceName>sface_rfl_blk_cmo_01.rsb</ShellFaceName>

    <KitPath>rifleman</KitPath>

    <ModelName>ica_us_rifleman.chr</ModelName>

    <LOD2>ica_us_rifleman_a.chr</LOD2>

    <LOD3>ica_us_rifleman_b.chr</LOD3>

    <Weapon>2</Weapon>

    <Stamina>1</Stamina>

    <Stealth>2</Stealth>

    <Leadership>1</Leadership>

    <HeadAttachmentNormalLOD>patrolcap.qob</HeadAttachmentNormalLOD>

    <HeadAttachment>patrolcap_alt.qob</HeadAttachment>

    <HeadAttachmentJungleLOD>patrolcap.qob</HeadAttachmentJungleLOD>

    </ActorFile>

After you copy the actor files over to your mod--never overwrite originals--, you would do as Tollen suggested and add attachments to a random number of the rifleman files. That way, some show with cap, some without.

  11. Gen Monty, did you also use mike's v1.1 update--need orig and his patch for it to work.

    ica_us_rifleman_a.chr

    ica_us_rifleman_b.chr

    ica_us_rifleman_a_cuba.chr

    ica_us_rifleman_b_cuba.chr

    ica_us_rifleman_body_cuba

This was what I was referring to--should be a chr file ica_us_rifleman.chr, then for desert uniforms to show without head gear you neeed chr files for each class with desert at the end. When you use original headings for your chr files, when your mod is activated, your files will be used without having to touch actor files.

PM me your email and I'll send the files.

  12. Gen Monty, you don't need to mess with actor files at all. You're missing ica_us_rifleman chr file from your above example (remember, they travel in 3's--reg chr model, _a,_b chr files) and you'll want to do the same as you did for cuba except using desert extension at the end. That way when you activate your mod, the game will read off your chr files and all reg class soldiers except snipers will have BJB's headgearless look.

One thing I failed to mention, your soldiers will have chinstrap on faces for original/ds missions. To remove chinstraps, copy faces/ghost folder from IT texture to file to your personal mod texture file. Remember--right click to remove read only properties, then just as you did with chr files you'll need one set with desert extension instead of cuba at the end and one set with no extension for regular gr missions. Or you can ask around--I know a couple of modders have already done that for their mods--just can't remember which--and that will save you some time. Have you figured out how to use mike shell's skinner so you get desert uniform to show up? If not, offer still stands to email you the desert chrs though doing it yourself will open new worlds to you.

Post in this thread rather than pm's as the weather in Colorado is gorgeous and I've been taking advantage of it and will be in and out this week. Others can help you through a problem if you post in open forum--also others can learn along with you. Have fun.

  13. Thanks for the link. I downloaded on a whim--not really my type of game, but decided to give it a try. I haven't laughed that hard in ages. The game is an absolute riot with the comments by the aliens and those warthogs are a blast to drive around in. If you are looking for pure fun, run and gun, picking up guns and ammo as you go, definitely give it a try folks. I guarantee you'll laugh your six off.

  14. Simple enuf. Copy modcont file from either desert seige, island thunder, or a mod you may have downloaded. Create a folder under mods--call it something simple--say "Monty's Mod". Paste modcont file in there. Right click it and uncheck read only box. On first line insert "Monty's Mod". Now create a sub folder for Character. Inside this this folder you will place BajaBravo's delightful chr files for rifleman, demolitions and heavy weapons. Activate this mod as you would any other mod--with a mod manager or go into game menu-options-activate your personal mod, exit game and restart. You should now have soldiers without headgear. As avey stated--never overwrite original files--a personal mod is simple to do and leaves original files untouched.

  15. BajaBravo has the regular soldiers without headgear. It's found in downloads/modding tools under ghost recon atr generator--it's not a standalone mod but has the chr files in it--just put the chr files in your personal mod character folder and your regular soldiers will show up with out headgear. He also included attachments for bandanna and patrol cap if you so like and has rsb file for them.

  16. In the 40mm/20mm grenade projectile file look for line that says explodes on impact. Just copy 40mm grenade file or 20mm grenade file--which ever one you want to use with your launcher--into your personal mod folder, rename it to say 50mmgrenade. Look for line that says explodes on impact in the prj file, change 1 to 0. Then adjust time to detonation line to whatever suits your needs.
