  1. so that means as long as I download the patch I can play on modded servers or do I download the mod too

It sounds pretty much like you will have to already have the mod downloaded and activated before you can connect to a modded server.

Basically, from what I'm reading it sounds like it just does a simple file check. It compares your GRAW game files against the server's and if they aren't identical, then you get the boot.

SO i have to have the modded .xml downloaded to join that server I think i like the other guys idea of making a person dowmload it as you connect.

What I stated was plain and simple truth. Having so many options controlled by the client rather than the server is inherently dangerous for a multiplayer game. File comparisons are one way to keep control of the situation, but it's not the most comprehensive or user-friendly solution and it doesn't at all stop 3rd party hacks. It's a step in the right direction, and considering time constraints it's probably the only step possible at this point but in the future I'd like to see two more steps be taken. The first being a viable scanner that detects hooks into the game files and the second being what I've already detailed in forced server control of critical configuration files.

I totaly agree with Ted, if a mod is not big, and client don't have it, thats point less to host it, so the fact thats server cannot share is content reduce alot the possibility for server or client to have the sames mods. And after some time you will probably see alot of mods emerging.

In one years from now i have little hope that a player will want to download 250 mods to be able to play on all moded server.

And considering that moding appeal to a minority of player that go on the net to actualy download them, well it might be a good idee to help them download ingame the mods that he might like.

The [Ghost Recon] was able to share the coop missions files and thats what helped the community create soo many missions, peoples didn't had to go on the net to find the little 36 k missions to be able to play on a server from someone he actualy never speaked with. The easy way to share missions helped alot of mod to be play and was enjoyed by alot of player without having to go download anything outside the game itself.

I think the principle of Warcratf III should serve as an exemple of ingame map sharing espetialy for coop. The player download the map or mod, and every one see the % where he is at in download, during that time he can chat with other player waiting for him.

I think those kind of systeme would improve alot the healthyness of the moding community and the accesibility of content to all, veteran to gaming and those who don't even know what the word "mod" mean.

Totally agree with you man Cause I will have no idea where to download mods.

OK back on topic, will anyone on the froum whos with GRIn ansswer some of the questions especially if the server will force you to download mods or you as an individual have to find mods and download. This is really annoying me. Please answer

  2. You will need the same version of game as is being run on an indevidual server.

This will include modded servers too.

Will I have to download anything to play on map editor maps or will they just pop up and I can join cause I'm not good at figuring out stuff like that.

Its more like 2 months work and only half the team worked on it.

Does the rest of the team works on expansion pack ?

No this has not been determined.

The other half are working on other things, and annual leave takes place too over the summer months.

so that means as long as I download the patch I can play on modded servers or do I download the mod too

  3. THe GL bouncing i think is a safety mechanism so if you were in a fire fight and peeked over some cover and tried to shoot your GL but it hit an edge you wouldn't die. I think the GL will only blow up at a cerain range. Makes sense. By the way people where helmets for a reason.

  4. 2GB of ram isn't going to do much if your graphics card isn't high-end. I have 2GB with the texture-mgt XML tweak and it's not saving me from the fact that I'm only running a 6800GT. Frames are still too low with everything set to low with no shadows.

Looking at that online benchmark article with GRAW, it looked like the only card that did it justice was the new dual-gpu 7950. Considering that, I'm probably not even going to bother upgrading to a 7900GT-level video card at this moment. I'd end up going from an average of 35fps to maybe 50fps and wonder what I shelled out three bills for.

try optimizing your systems bios... mine was like that too but it cleared up after i turned the pci latencies down. Runs really smooth now at high.

HOw do you do that I don't know much about that but I do have 2 gig RAM

  5. Just a thought....

Maybe there is a way to make the host invulnerable??,.. and then use an extra computer to host the game for the inactive invulnerable host? Sadly, that limits the game play to only three real players,... but it is better than that foolish idea of ending the game when leader dies.

How could Grin ever think of such a ridiculous awkward setup in the first place? That kind of original thinking from Grin, makes me very pessimistic about any serious good coop features ever coming from Grin. They really do not have a clue as to what serious coop play is all about, as played at Alpha Squad and Tactical Gamer, and a few other hard core clans.

The eventual playability of this game in a serious coop mode, will probably lie only within the hands of our FANTASTIC community modders.

I'm with GRIN for the COOP mode... I do agree however, having the mission end because the host got killed, is nothing short of ridiculous... Not sure having the host invulnerable is the way to go as well... But, a limited respawn may help the ghost to protect the host and all to proceed with caution... Will also remind members work as team, the way the game is supposed to be played...

LAst part is a good idea :)

  6. This is to all the GRIN members who use this forum. I thought of a new type of MP mode that might be cool at least I think it would. Please read and give feedback if you can. SO on one side is a team of 4(A) like in SP and on the other side is four people(B). There is a scripted mission that A has to play through and beat like in normal COOP. The trick is this. The other side controls the enemy AI. That means that each person on team B would have control over say 15-20 men. They could use these men with the tactical map to not allow Team A to complete their mission. Team A would not be allowed to respawn but possibly be would recieve reinforcements every 5 minutes. THis would get rid of the repititiveness of COOP and add a little RTS to GRAW if people want that. Team B would have lots of control over the AI being the draw to play on that side while Team A's draw would be to be in the action and fight. JUst a rough idea. But anyone tell me if this has a chance.

  7. Also what must be taken into consideration is that GRIN did not develop any more Ghost recon games until now for the PC so all everyone one had was GR and that was great. Now what I am trying to say is that if GRIN releases another GHost Recon then this game's life will be shortlived unless the other games sucks. This game itself is right now in danger of being shortlived.

  8. This is directed to everyone in this forum, Do you guys pick up a game and play it for a couple years like GR or maybe GRAW or do you play a game for a couple months and then pick up a new one. Just wondering because sometimes it sounds like some people play one game for three years. Maybe you play one game mainly and other games on the side. Just curious. So post how long you play a game, and what games you're playing now. Also any of you planning on buying a PS3.

  9. Isn't that always the case with co-op? IMHO it is... That's why

TvT MP is so important... Everyone has their own knacks, abilties and

quircks which is something a computer for the time being won't be able

to simulate (IE: Unique habits n such for each individual AI Player). A

campaign stays cool for about a month to 6 weeks, then it's all about

the TvT MP, just like with graphics and sounds. BF2's graphics had me for a while but then the game just got plain once I got over that. And in

some cases it even gets annoying (like for example the sound of the waterfall on D08 Tank in the green spawn area of GR). In the end it's

    all about gameplay.

I agree with you for most games, but the only exeption to that in my case was [GR], i played it alot in TVT during the first year, but after that i discovered Igor and created some missions, and i think what was fun after that was creating and playing with a small band of player, that liked my map, and there goal was to get more kill then me that was really funy. But i have some doubt that it will be the case in GRAW, because of the after match result in coop, others don't see it so the fact that player can't impresse others with score and make a healthy competition really make the coop less attractive, it's cool to succed a missions, but it's even more fun to compete in the realisation of a missions

I completely agree with Attila it makes sense for that competeiveness to be there GRIN should seroiusly think about adding that.

FEAR is equal to DOOM 3 in terms of draw distance, and draw distance is a killer for fps. Its obvious FEAR and DOOM will have better fps at higher settings cuz they dont put enough on the screen to kill your PC. GRAW on the other hand has a huge draw distance. its not even close to fair to compare the games as they are not even remotley the same category of gaming except they all have guns in them.

Very true! you wont see more than 3 enemys in single player and thats cause of the way its engineered.

I created some map for FEAR and the way the rendering work is very clever, you divide the map in zone of rendering, so it render only the zone that you can see from the zone you are in, the principle is really good for optimisation and dramaticaly reduce de number of polygone to render so it allow the player to have very good performance because the 3d card don't have to render all the map but only a few zone at the time and the rest is not loaded because an other texture block the view. But if you create a map without those zone, truste me you fps will take a dramatical drop, unless you don't use what make this game looking good, the volumetric light.

Those volumetric light are the main reason why FEAR look good, because if you actualy take time to watch the level building of the game, thats a series of box with some prop in it and and the shadow hide the simplicity of the modeling. So graphicaly FEAR is looking just like it need to look like and i think thats just great you simply don't need better graphic then it already got

Now if you look at GRAW, the modelling are far more complex and include far more polygone with all those prop arround so it take far more from your 3d card, and contrary to fear, doom, quake and else, GRAW dont hide itself behinde darkness. So it's far more hard to make something look believable under the sun then something in the shadow. Also GRAW have more detaillied texture.

The only things i dislike about GRAW graphicaly is the yellow aspect of the game, and the fact that it could clearly use some optimisation.

On the multiplayer side, i think the june patch might fix some issu.... let's hope....

Attlia go download the reduced sepia effects mod

  10. I read in the June patch release that the patch will be out by friday or by sunday but it also so said that that might be when an unofficial version comes out. First is that release date truefor the official patch. secondly would be wise to get the unofficial patch seeing as it may have bugs or not have all the full features. Finally if an unofficial patch is slipped out would anyone or everyone download it.

    [Merged into existing thread]

  11. As I have been reading through many threads I have found that a lot of people say that your friendly AI is a pile of crap. There are more people saying this than defending the AI. Some of the reasons for saying that they are bad. An example is how they can't kill a .50 ever if its' facing there way. I am hereby defending and standing up for The AI. They have on countless occasions saved me. They almost always kill their targets and fulfill. there orders. I have never experienced them facing the wrong way after issuing a move order. They do find cover and do give backup. Maybe I just suck so bad that I make the AI look good. But still I never encounter any really horrible AI issues. As for the enemy AI thats another story.....

Now to the question. If one of your Friendly AI should die on a mission does he return on the next one or is he gone forever or what? Please Answer this.

  12. OH I did a quick check and the PLA (People's liberation Army) has about 3.8million trooops and 1.5 million of that is reserves. No way we could stop that without some intense bombing or nukes. China wouldn't have to worry about tactics just charge. I don't thing even the GHosts could help us out with this.
