  1. That being said, MS recently said they will support XP until 2008.

What choice did they have but to support it, with that circus they are running over there called Vista? It's already 2 years late.

They must be following the Ubi/GR franchise business rules ! !

**Runs away without the gimp. Took my Glucosamine Condroitin before making this post ! !**

  2. I don't think DX 10 is going to be out by then.

Spec, I know you pay more attention to this than I do so:

Is Vista definitely delayed past Q4?

Are you just predicting based on the continuous delays up to this point?

Or is it more specific, as in you're aware of some of the problems they're currently having and suspect it will take longer than 10 months to get it worked out?

    TIA

    --Logos

I have based my opinion so far on their track record of pushing things back, and the amount of problems they ahve been having.

Plus if you look back at how long it took to get DX9 fully implemented, the prediction follows that course.

One, they have already said that DX 10 will be released with Vista. But not everyone is going to jump on the vista bandwagon, so they are going to have to make a backwards compatible version for XP, if they have any hopes of keeping the hardware vendors happy.

Well, we all know what happened when they tried to do that with DX9 for the Win9x line.

Plus, you have to figure in the time it wil;l take developers to get fully onboard with whatever standard they work out for DX10.

Given all of that, I'd say it will be the end of the year, and DX9 cards will be a good bet at least halfway through next year.

  3. Is everyone more concerned about them hitting the supposed release date or putting out a polished product? I for one am more than willing to wait in hopes of getting something close to what we had in GR1. GRIN -Take your time in adding the features that are most requested. We have waited this long  :wall:  what's a little longer? ;)

Still i would like to see more official releases as to the progress of the PC version.  I enjoy seeing the eye candy from the Xbox360 version, but that is not what I am waiting to buy.

Quite honestly, since the release date was supposed to be a couple weeks from now, and we haven't even seen a demo, I don't think the hold up is polish work.

I think it's strictly business politics on Ubi's part. It has to be. Afterall, only politics can make sense of what doesn't make sense.

I think the PC version is done. I think they are having trouble with the 360 version, and we are stuck waiting on business politics, plain and simple.

I think we've heard nothing new on the PC version, because there is nothing new to report. It's done, all we lack is a demo. And we won't get that, as long as the 360 demo doesn't go out first. We won't get our game until the 360 version goes out first.

It's the only plausible answer: nothing can overshadow the almighty console version, plain and simple.

So everyone needs to hop on over to the console forum here, and start ranting it up, and tell them to get off their keesters already, and release the game ! !

Because we won't get ours until they do. :sheep:

  4. My new additions to my Spetzcats troops

    picture here

That's "The Colonel" looking at the directly at the camera...

you think he's intense now...just watch till I deploy them.

    HAVOK!!!!

What in the ever lovin' name of all that's holy?!?!

Who said you could bring rats into this? Man, I hate rats. Man, I hate rats.

  5. HEHE, I feel stupid, but what the heck is FFR?

    Fdisk, Format, and Reload.

Fdisk isn't really something tht is needed anymore. That refers to a term used on WinMe and older OS's, and Linux, but it stuck for the term FFR.

It means, just format and reload your system.

  6. Everyone knows that DX10 cards are coming out around Q3-Q4, but do you honestly think DX10 games won´t have a DX9 legacy path?  Just now, after 3 or 4 years with DX9, we start to see "DX9 only" games.  Crysis will have a DX9 path, and so will EVERY other game that will come out in the next 3 years.  So there is no need to panic. ;)

DX9  cards won´t be worthless anytime soon and usually the first "new tech" cards are the slowest of all (in this case the first gen. DX10 cards).  I recommend: Buy the cards that offer the best price performance ratio, and buy it now if you have the money and NEED a card, otherwise if you jump on the "wait train", you´ll wait forever for a better card.  At the same time I do recommend to sell "old cards" before they loose their biggest value. ;)

I don't think DX 10 is going to be out by then.

DX9 cards are going to be fine for a good while.

everything else in your post is good advice.

  7. time to give up all method that involves audio.. great.

and the sound jack (the one for the headset, not mic, it is NOT loose, but i can slightly feel it move up or down if i move it upwards or downwards.

I have two jacks on the front of my case that do not function, and one on my CDRW that doesent function either.

IF its a jack problem, that isnt easy to fix, i swear im gonna go into a depression. I suppose i wasnt punished enough last year. I probably wouldnt even bother taking it anywhere because all it does it cost money and stress me the f out.

Well, if it is a jack problem, which it sounds like, the only real solution is to replace the sound card. You can probably get one at a fairly decent price from Newegg or Best Buy.

  8. So tell us, why keep pushing back, Ubi?  What's the REAL reason?

That was a phenominal trailer. I was like "WOW", and then "WOW", and then "WOW" again. After seeing that I am DEFINATELY getting a 360.

That's why. Chalk up another console convert. (and associated game royalities to MS)

Yep. I guess that would do it, wouldn't it?

Now you know why the PC Gamers must now take a backseat. :wall:

  9. I did not have a headset. so i just plugged in some polk audio mini speakers that worked atleast 30 days ago, and only ONE speaker is playing music, and yes i have set the settings to desktop speakers

In that case, it sounds like you have a jack on the sound card going bad. Check to see if it feels loose, and plug your headset in, and spin the jack inside the connector to see if there is maybe just a piece of crud lodged in it or something.

But if speakers and a headset are doing it, I'd say it's the jack to the sound card.

Is it a jack coming right out of the sound card or mobo, or is one that plugs in to that to give you a jack in the front of your case?

If that is the case, try plugging your headset directly into the sound card or mobo and see if that fixes it.

  10. Aaah well, was too good to be true, I guess :(

I must admit to being completely bewildered by all the secrecy around the PC version of this game - with the offical policy (apparently) being one of an almost total blackout of info you would swear the safety of the known universe depended on us NOT knowing what this game looks like, or even when we can expect to find out what it looks like. Maybe the marketing division is trying out a new strategy - no marketing at all. Weird way to generate interest......

    Simple answer:

It's all about the 360, plain and simple.

Y'all had might as well get used to taking a backseat to the console world.

It's all about that console, because Ubi thinks that's where all their money is.

What I can't figure out though is, the console is going to be there anyway, and console owners will buy the game, regardless of what the PC version is like, because they have the console.

The only thing that common sense says, is that something is wrong with the PC version, that they don't want anyone seeing before the console version goes on sale.

Otherwise, to me anyway, they could use the PC version as a marketing tool to sell 360 games. It seems to me that if the PC version is everything they say it is, the look of it would sell console copies as well.

Otherwise, I can't figure why they would keep pushing it back, and can't figure out why they are so afraid to release it before the 360 version. ANd the lack of a demo and concrete info SEEMS to bear this out.

So tell us, why keep pushing back, Ubi? What's the REAL reason?

does it fit the reqirements for GR:AW ?

Yeah, should run great. You might want to think about upgrading to the 128kb, though. :rocky:

This machine will rock with Dick Splash's graphics ! ! HOOYAH ! !

  12. The best thing to do in this case is just reforamt, and re-install everything where you want it.

What you want to do involves you buying software like Ghost or Drive Image(80.00), which you could get a new HDD for BTW,, learning how to use it, and getting Partition Magic, and learning how to use it.

Then you're looking at about an hour, hour and a half of work time.

In that time, you can do a nice clean FFR, and you are 100% sure everything will work, first time.
