  1. Like I said before Budgie, come up with one good, viable alternative that will work.

Pyro, we dont really know all that he has, we do know that he is making bios and chem weapons. The embargos havent stopped that, only deprived his people of food and medicine.

Also, about pulling out in 91, I'm old enough to remeber what happened and have all the news coverage here on tape.

All the countries that were part of the coalition, except for England, said that once Kuwait was free pull out or else. France was a very big part of that coalition, and the UN. The US and England wanted to put an end to this then, but didnt want to tick the world off, so we pulled out.

And Budgie, one more thing. You said that France said it would be there when the chips are down. Well, after the chemical and biological chips fall and thousands have lost their lives, its a bit late, dont you think, when additional support at the time could have prevented it?

All France and Canada are doing is letting that sadistic pig Sadaam know that he has divided the world, and he may get away with this crap. Very bad message to send when even France and Canada agree there is a problem over there. A very big problem.

And just because his military is smaller, makes him no less dangerous. With the weapons he has, and all know he has them, including France and Canada, he's more dangerous than ever.

And if he used bios and chems on Israel, if the US wasnt already there now with England, would France jump in then?

Pyro, its got nothing to do with SUV's. Its about the world economy and the stability of the region.

Pyro, youre what, 16? How would you know what he is doing as far as weapons production? Do you honestly think that the world would send in inspectors, which France whole heartedly supports, if he werent? My generation has been watching that animal for 12 years. We know what he is doing over there. The whole world does.

As for what happened in 1991, if you are 16, that would have made you about four or 5. You arent old enough, if that is your age, that s what I heard, to have had any interest in really keeping up with what this animal has been doing until maybe 2 years ago or so. Alot of us, me included remember our friends having been over there and watching them come home sick and messed up from some of the crap he did.

As for the alternative tech to petroleum, we have had it for years. Hydrogen, even fuel injection that gets 200 miles to the gallon. Ford has it sitting on the shelf because the economy is based on oil.

Anyway, you all dont want to fight and are against the war, fine. So am I. But like I keep saying, and no one seems to be able to answer is, come up with one good, viable alternative that will work.

And just like everyone else, including all the world governments, and people a hell of a lot smarter than you and I, you cant, and neither can I.

And I'll tell ya something else too. Unless I miss my guess, North Korea is going to become a major problem once we are tied up. And they have confirmed long range nukes, and want to use them. They are just waiting till our plate is full. Who's gonna handle that? And even France and Canada know that that is a very real threat. Will France jump in there if we cant?

I also want to make clear, that this post is not an insult to anyone personally on this forum. I enjoy debating and talking with the lot of you, even though I disagree with some things. But thats okay. thats half the fun, right?

  2. I also just have one other question for the war protesters.

Dont you all realize that peace has a very high price? As does freedom?

I get the impression sometimes, especially listening to protesters, that they take their freedoms for granted, and dont remember just how much peace and freedom really cost.

  3. IF you had read the entire post, you would see that I gave everyone credit. And I'm not saying that France or Canada owe an unending allegiance.

But, France, being a member of the UN Security council, is also a major screamer about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, and wants something done about it, but are not willing to do anything but talk about it.

The UN resolutions, and embargos have been in place for 12 years and havent worked. SO, it comes to this...What do all you guys want to do about it?

Come up with a better, viable solution. People smarter than us have tried, to no avail.

As for North Korea and their missiles Budgie, if they can hit Canada and the US, they can certainly hit Europe. Europe's alot closer to SE Asia than the US and Canada are. Dont fool yourself.

You know, the UN is always complaining about Sadaam and his atrocities, but will sit and talk about them while he keeps commiting worse atrocities. Then, when someone steps up to handle it, all the sudden the US is the ugly red headed step child. What a load of crap.

The truth is, this little Iraq escapade should have been finished in 1991. We could have killed him then and finished what we started, except that the UN said to stop or they would pull all backing, so we stopped. For 12 years the entire world has been complaining about this madman and saying that something has to be done, including France. But no one but THe US, and England are willing to do the deed. 12 years of embargos put in place I might add, by the entire world and the security council, of which France is a major player.

The embargos kill as many innocent people as a war does, but no one will admit that. Embargos directly effect civilians, depriving them of badly needed food and medicine and such. But no one is busting anyones' cajones over that, are they? The media doesnt report that part because there is nothing being destroyed.

The problem as I see it, is no one wants to admit that they messed up in 91, and all are trying to save face.

The man is manufacturing biologicals and chemicals. What would you suggest we do?

And now France says they wont step in until Sadaam starts using WMD's ? Thats what you just said, right Budgie? Thats like closing the Barn Door after the Horse got out.

Sadaam hears all the public outcry against him, but he will never give in, because the world will not make him give in because the world cant get together on a solution.

Inspect for weapons the world says. We have done that and know he has them. He was ordered by the world to disarm them and hasnt done it. So embargos were put in place 12 years ago, which have done nothing but hurt innocent people, but France and Canada are behind that. Yessir.

You arent naive enough to think that the embargo is actually hurting Sadaam himself, his govt, or military are you? I sure hope not.

OK. so we do it France's way. We sit back and embargo some more and give peace a chance, like we have for 12 years. Sadaam will get stronger and more dangerous.

I would like all the protesters to do one thing for me. Come up with a realistic, viable alternative. Just one. One thing that you know would work.

Because I'll tell you what. That butt wipe Sadaam has the strongest Military in that entire region next to Israel, and he is going after total control of the entire region. If he gets it, what will the world do then?

But that's okay. Let the world sit back and do nothing but talk and bad mouth the USA and England.

At least we are willing to do something about it. Like I said, come up with a better alternative.

I dont think all the protesters and people criticizing and bad mouthing the US and England can come up with anything. They have been trying for 12 years.

And there is just one other thing. The entire world economy is based almost entirely on oil. If Sadaam gets Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, what do you all think will happen ? What will you all do? What will any of us do? You think Sadaam cares about any of that? I think not.

What I do think is, the world had better wake up and smell the coffee and the BS because it is getting mighty deep, and right now there are only a few countries willing to take up the shovel.

And all this crap about the US empire building. BS. In WW2 we could have taken all of Europe, and Japan. But we didnt. We gave them back, and helped them rebuild.

Recently, when Colin Powell was in London, he was hectored by a former archbishop of Canterbury on “American Empire Building”. His reply was pure eloquence –

"We have gone forth from our shores repeatedly over the last 100 years . . . and put wonderful young men and women at risk, many of whom have lost their lives, and we have asked for nothing except enough ground to bury them in."

  4. I think that too much tech on a battlefield is bad on a man to man level. Too many distractions, to much bulk, and too much reliance on lcd's instead of honed instincts, reflexes, and training. But we will see. And the Army can do all the field trials it likes, but the only true trial is in a battle. A real one, where anything and everything can go wrong and does.

The added weight alone, unless you are going to sacrifice survival gear and extra ammo, will be an immense drain on a soldier.

  5. Well, like they said back in 91, Sadaam's best source of intelligence was CNN and Time magazine.

Enough said about that. The media need to cover the war, but not be in the field of that war.

It's a bad intelligence and security risk.

  6. I always find it kind of funny when countries say things like, 'You are undisciplined, and we wont help you, but you are our best ally'. Yeah, right.

Is it just me, or does that sound a bit like a dear John letter? 'Gee, we're breaking up, let's just be friends'?

I wonder, what will France and Canada do, when we have all our troops tied up in the Middle East, and Korea decides to get froggy with their nukes, and the US is to tied up to stop them?

By the way, so that no one get's the wrong idea here, I want to say this. I have nothing personal against the French or Canadian people. I think those countries' politics suck.

France, Canada, England, we, the US, fought and bled and died to keep all of you free, and so did you, dont get me wrong, and all are entitled to your opinions and the other inalienable rights that that freedom provides. So, if I do any bashing on these forums, and we all are, whether we are from France, England, and Canada, as well as some other nations, its against politics, not people.

And just let me say just one more thing. IF France or Canada needed our help, and I was able to do so, I'd be on the first plane, with a rifle, whether I agreed with the cause or not, because they are our allies, and it would be the right thing to do.

But, one thing I dont want to hear is Canada or France complaing about North Korea. It's a proven fact that Korea has Missiles that can reach France, Canada, and the US. I think maybe France and Canada ought to handle that little problem, since we are a bit tied up at the moment, and wont have any free troops to deal with it when everyone starts screaming about it because they wouldnt help augment our troops.

It's my take that Korea is just kind of stalling right now, until the US gets too tied up to handle it. What will France and Canada do then?

Just a former Marines' take on the situation.

And that my friends, is my opinion.

  7. I received a joke and put it up here. Yes, I am a very patriotic American, and my posts elsewhere on this forum reflect my beliefs. And since my country is willing to go out and fight for those beliefs, and die for them, as I was willing when I was in the Corps, for the USA, for france, which we did, many thousands of lives, in fact, I will post what I want. It is not a personal attack.

In truth, I am quite ticked off that we are going back to Iraq. Not for the reason, It has to be done, but because we have to go back. If Bush Sr. had had the cajones to stand up to world opinion, France being the loudest, and ignored them and finished this in 1991, we wouldnt have to go back !!! But now we do, and it really rankles me that one of the biggest reasons for this, will not help.

I have nothing whatsoever against the French People, but their politics SUCK !!

  10. Actually most pistol rounds are good to 200 yards with the exception of .380, .25.

It takes a great deal of practice, thousands of rounds per week to get that good, but it is possible. I have seen it. I used to see some guys at the gun range who could do it. But it is not the rule, but the exception.

A pistol shot should never be taken over 50 yards. Most handgun Gunfights are in truth between 7 and 21 feet.

Just like using tools to work on your car or build cabinets, you should pick the right tool for the job.

    A good general rule is:

Pistol - Out to no more than 25 yards, real world

Shotgun - 25n - 50 yards max, unless using slugs. Then 100 yards, maybe.

Carbine - Depending on caliber, 100 yards max if in a handgun caliber such as 9mm or 40 S & W, 200 if in a rifle caliber such as .223

Rifle - can go to 2000 yards, depending on caliber and optics, and alot of talent

    Rifles by caliber -

    44 mag, 357 mag, 45 Colt, 45-70 - 100-150 yards

    Shotgun - Buckshot 10 - 25 yards, slugs out to 100 yards

.223 which is in use by 90% of world military 600 yards effective range

.308 currently used by law enforcement and military as a sniper and SAW round, typically 800 yards, but a good Sniper can go to 1200 with it.

30-06 - typical hunting round, same as 308 ballistics wise. 308 derived from 30-06

300 win mag. - a military long range round and popular hunting round - 1000-14 yards

50 cal, such as a barret light 50 or better known as M82A!A, out to 2 miles

And to the ammo price Question, and this is here in the states mind you, most handgun ammo averages 15-25 dollars a box of 50, rifle rounds depends on what they are but average 8-40 dollars a box of 20.

I reload all of my own, which means i just buy the powder, primer, bullets and make my own rounds.cheaper in bulk that way if you do a lot of shooting.

  11. I would only ask one thing of everyone, and add a reminder also.

With the threat of a multi front war looming on the horizon, and the split feelings about it, and I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, we are all entitled to our feelings, and our opinions, because we are all free, and everyone here knows mine from my posts, but please, PLEASE REMEBER:

That our soldiers, US, Canadian, English, Australian, and whoever else joins in, are all the instruments of policy made by politicians. They only do and go where they are bid. Please remember this, and always treat them with respect, and never forget.

Memories of how the VietNam vets were treated for doing what they were told, and going where they were sent are still very fresh. They were treated very badly for doing their duty by enforcing policy that they didnt make. They did it because they believed in their country and their duty to serve and protect tha country. The politicians make policy, and our soldiers are just the instrument for that policy.

There are people, peace nics and famous actors and actresses, like Demi Moore, Rosie Odonnell, Alec Baldwin, and Jane Fonda, just to name a few that would have people take it out on the soldiers like they did back in 59-72.

PLEASE, dont let this happen! Our soldiers have fought and bled and died to make sure that we all have and keep the freedoms we have, including the ones that some have to protest this war.

We need to remember our soldiers, and thank them and pray for them whether we agree with what they are about to do, or not.

And things now stand to get pretty ugly, what with Korea waiting to make a move until all our forces are tied up in Iraq,(just an opinion).

    Anyway, PLEASE::

    R E M E M B E R and never forget. Say a prayer for them, and support them.

The politicians are the ones that need the criticism, not our soldiers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, wives, and friends.

Semper FI, and my prayers are with all of you serving our great nations, and my support, and rememberance. I, will NEVER forget, and I would be there with you if I could. Safe journey, hurry home, and Godspeed.

    Semper Fi ! !

  12. There is only one phrase that truly sums it up.

    Semper Fidelis. Always Faithful.

When it comes right down to it, all the inter-service rivalry is gone. We are all one team, with the same goal. FREEDOM.

It would also do us well if all the politicians took a good hard look at this video before we go any further, and remember who they are sending and why.

IT is a just cause, and the reason should not be forgotten, EVER, like it was in a couple of previous wars.

Here is a quote from a previous post i made in another section of our forum. I think it fits better here.

    Here's a little Humor....

Secretary of State Colin Powell was recently approached by an Iraqi newspaper reporter and accusingly asked, "Isn't it true that only 13 percent of young Americans can locate Iraq on a map?"

Secretary Powell stopped, turned, and stated "Yes, it's true. But, unfortunately for you, all 13 percent are United States Marines."

Now that we have had a little laugh, this is from me, to all the great men and women who serve the greater good and we must remeber are the instruments of policy, whether the policy is right or wrong, or whether we all agree with it or not. Thanks to these great men and women, we have the right to disagree and argue till our hearts content, and do it out loud and proud, and in public, without fear of any kind.

Thank you for serving our great nations and for the freedoms that we enjoy, all because of you. Thank you for your time, your effort, and when necessary your blood. We wont forget. You will always be remembered with Great Honor, at least in this man's heart.

I want to give my thanks and my prayers to the Soldiers of all our Armed Forces, and to the Armed Forces of all the countries that are joining us in this endeavor.

You have my deepest gratitude, and my most heartfelt prayers. I wish you all Godspeed, and a safe journey home. I would be right next to you to the end if they would let me back in the Corps.

  13. No, they aren't, are they , Parabellum? Thanks for being the statistician that i'm definitely not, and posting those numbers.

But then again, if you are the head of either the NRA or Hnadgun Control Inc, you are only going to get half the story either way. The real problem is, people in general, like water, seek the path of least resistance, and instead of really learning all the facts, take the convenient way out, and only see what they want to see, right or wrong.

If things were really as bad as Sara Brady and her lobbyists would have you believe, dont you think all firearms would be banned, and the country ruled by martial law? Also, wouldnt the streets be running red with blood?

Thank God there are rational people in this country, and yes, as much as I hate to admit it, in our government as well, who bother to get all the facts and weigh them all, both sides of the scale, before making rash, ineffective decisions.

For example, how long has it been since plain russian citizens were allowed to have guns, and they have one of the most dangerous syndicates in the world.

I said it before, and I will say it again, taking guns away from folks like you and me will mean only the bad guys have them. I, for one, like being on a more equal footing.

  14. AS WAR APPROACHES, DO NOT FORGET

I sat in a movie theater watching "Schindler's List," asked myself, "Why didn't the Jews fight back?" Now I know why.

I sat in a movie theater, watching "Pearl Harbor" and asked myself, “Why weren't we prepared?" Now I know why.

Civilized people cannot fathom, much less predict, the actions of evil people.

On September 11, dozens of capable airplane passengers allowed themselves to be overpowered by a handful of poorly armed

terrorists because they did not comprehend the depth of hatred that motivated their captors.

On September 11, thousands of innocent people were murdered because too many Americans naively reject the reality that

some nations are dedicated to the dominance of others. Many political pundits, pacifists and media personnel want us to forget the carnage. They say we must focus on the bravery of the rescuers and ignore the cowardice of the killers. They

implore us to understand the motivation of the perpetrators. Major television stations have announced they will assist the healing process by not replaying devastating footage of the planes crashing into the Twin Towers.

    I will not be manipulated.

I will not pretend to understand.

    I will not forget.

I will not forget the liberal media who abused freedom of the press to kick our country when it was vulnerable and hurting.

I will not forget that CBS anchor Dan Rather preceded President Bush's address to the nation with the snide remark, "No

matter how you feel about him, he is still our president."

I will not forget that ABC TV anchor (and Canadian Citizen) Peter Jennings questioned President Bush's motives for not returning immediately to Washington, DC and commented, "We're all pretty skeptical and cynical about Washington."

And I will not forget that ABC's Mark Halperin warned if reporters weren't informed of every little detail of this war, they aren't "likely – nor should they be expected -- to show deference."

I will not isolate myself from my fellow Americans by pretending an attack on the USS Cole in Yemen was not an attack on the United States of America.

I will not forget the Clinton administration equipped Islamic terrorists and their supporters with the world's most

Sophisticated telecommunications equipment and encryption technology, thereby compromising America's ability to trace terrorist radio, cell phone, land lines, faxes and modem communications.

I will not be appeased with pointless, quick retaliatory strikes like those perfected by the previous administration.

I will not be comforted by "feel-good, do nothing" regulations like the silly, "Have your bags been under your control?"

    question at the airport.

I will not be influenced by so called, "antiwar demonstrators" who exploit the right of expression to chant anti-American obscenities.

I will not forget the moral victory handed the North Vietnamese by American war protesters who reviled and spat upon the returning soldiers, airmen, sailors and marines.

I will not be softened by the wishful thinking of pacifists who chose reassurance over reality.

I will embrace the wise words of Prime Minister Tony Blair who told the Labor Party conference, "They have no moral inhibition on the slaughter of the innocent. If they could have murdered not 7,000 but 70,000, does anyone doubt they would have done so and rejoiced in it? There is no compromise possible with such people, no meeting of minds, no point of understanding with such terror. Just a choice: defeat it or be defeated by it. And defeat it we must!"

    I will force myself to:

    -hear the weeping

    -feel the helplessness

    -imagine the terror

    -sense the panic

    -smell the burning flesh

    - experience the loss

    - remember the hatred.

I sat in a movie theater, watching "Saving Private Ryan" and asked myself, "Where did they find the courage?" Now I know.

We have no choice. Living without liberty is not living.

-- Ed Evans, MGySgt, USMC (Ret.)

Not as lean, not as mean, but still a Marine.

Keep this going until every living American has read it and memorized it so we don't make the same mistake again

Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year: 120,000

    Accidental deaths per physician: 0.171

(US Dept. Health & Human Services)

Number of gun owners in the US: 80,000,000

Number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups): 1,500

Accidental deaths per gun owner: 0.0000188

Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

"FACT: Not everyone has a gun, but everyone has at least one doctor". Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets out of hand! Remember: guns don't kill people, doctors do!!

  16. Adolph Hitler started out with gun registration in Europe, so that he knew where to send his soldiers to collect weapons in the name of cutting crime and safety, and we all know where that led.

And before anyone says what I know someone will, I'm not saying that that will happen like it did then.

But does the government of a free society really need to be that paranoid of it's own citizens?

  19. I dont know if everyone here reads the humor forum, so I'll post this here.

Secretary of State Colin Powell was recently approached by an Iraqi newspaper

reporter and accusingly asked, "Isn't it true that only 13 percent of young Americans

can locate Iraq on a map?"

Secretary Powell stopped, turned, and stated "Yes, it's true. But, unfortunately for you,

all 13 percent are United States Marines."

Semper Fi! and my prayers are with you who are there, and those on your way. Godspeed, and come home safe.
