Win9x/me is not really fond of directx9. Directx9 was almost specifically written for 2000/XP. That could be part of your problem. When I was still running ME, I went back to DX8.1, and everything was fine after that. You need to make sure that you have the latest drivers for your VIA Apollo chipset. Very important here. They should be updated and loadded before you update DX. If updating the VIA drivers doesnt work this time, you may want to consider reinstalling WinME with DX8.1, as there is really no way to uninstall DX completely without hosing the OS. Yes, some folks have acco

That may very well be true, Monty, as I am not familiar with all the UK papers in the UK, being from the US. But as I said, there is an air of truth to what is said there, no matter what publication printed it. And alot of what he quoted in the article, no matter who he wrote it for is true, and a whole lot of people believe it and feel the way he described in the article. And while that may very well be a "Crappy Tabloid", the author still states some cold facts. That paper may change it's stance, but I dont think the public will be so easily swayed - not this time.

Ah, that's cool dude. Just tryin' to help out. That's just something I've seen happen alot.

Very true, 300. But like warhawk said, not necessarily with all of Europe, but with France, it has been building for awhile.
-
As for the article that warhawk references, we knew that already. Everyone did, but some would not believe it. In fact, it was mentioned in many a post here, and the posters were rebutted. I personally think that 300 is right, and that Europe and the US, with the exception of the UK, are in for a rocky road. Warhawk is correct. This is bigger than GW2 concerning the French. This goes back to the beginning of Viet Nam, and they have been exhibiting the same behavior ever since. It does not bode well for good relations, and I think now, people are really taking a good hard look at Fra

Same here. It wont be worth it to me unless it has coop MP

Definitely follow WK's recommendation. I have that particular drive, and it's awesome. It also has a 3 year mfr warranty. And for the record, I do notice the difference in performance between the WD8MB cache, and my Maxtor 2MB cache drives.

Remote Install on Windows 2000 Server
Specter replied to jvreeland's topic in GR (PC) - Tech Support
That could prove to be very difficult, as you would have to allow the server admin to set up remote admin access rights to your PC, and also setup the remote connections, and then he would have to set up remote access admin rights for the server you are leasing. Not to mention, that unless you have one kick ass connection to that server, remote installation could possibly take a long time. You will need to contact the company you want to lease the server from to get all the details and find out if they can do that or even allow it to be done. It is possible, but they will more than like -
What you did, was tell directx to tell your sound card not to use max sound acceleration, using the hardware on your sound card. Effectively, its like telling your video card what to do when you adjust the detail levels. All sound card brands are pretty much different, and are capable of different levels of acceleration, ie....the speed at which it processes and mixes and samples sounds. Also, alot depends on the software code that the offending game or app is using and how it's setup. For instance, for 99% of games and apps, full acceleration is not a problem, but with GR and alot of

Are there any scratches or pits on the disc? It sounds like defective media. I'd try returning it for another one. Do you have only one CD drive? If you also have a DVD or a burner, try it in there also.
-
Are you getting any error messages? When the program shuts down, is Windows generating an error report, and if so, what are the details? Are you running any other mods, besides DS or IT? What video and sound card do you have? What version of directx are you running?
-
Also, regarding my above post, where do all you guys see US/European Relations going from here?
-
Alot also depends on which OS and which directx version you are using. I recommend 21.83 for any Win9x/me system with dx8.1 or above. I recommend the 29.42's for XP/2000 with DX9x. Also, make sure that you have the latest drivers for your mobo chipset.

Definitely avoid ubi.com. It blows. Come here and look for games, and barring that, ASE is definitely the thing to use.

PLEASE DO NOT FLAME ME FOR POSTING THIS ! ! ! I got this in an email from a very good friend of mine, who spends as much time in Europe as he does here in the States. This is an article from an English Newspaper over there, and I just wanted to post it to get some insight from everyone here. BUT, PLEASE, only CIVILIZED insight. I am not posting this to start a hate war or anything like that. I just wanted that to be crystal clear. I would like to just hear opinions, and let's face it....there couldnt be a more diverse background to get those opinions from, than here at GR.net. And

Most of the problem here is the graphics on the notebook. There simply isnt enough to run GR. You need a 32 MB video card, yours is 16MB. The only thing you may be able to try is turning all detail to low, turn off all filtering if that is an option, in your display properties. Otherwise, I'm afraid you are out of luck. You might also check your display properties, and your BIOS, to see if there is an option to dedicate anymore system RAM strictly to your video chip. Some laptops are set up that way. Otherwise, I'm afraid you just dont have enough machine there to play GR.

H E A V Y S I G H ! ! !

cool. I didnt know you were talking celsius, but still, it should be ok.
-
Yes, you are correct. I've been playin too much GR ! ! Sheesh ! ! ! Thanks for the correction.

One other thing you can try, and I have seen this work also, go into dxdiag, and disable hardware acceleration.
-
Here is what I would do, and I know it has worked for many a folk I recommended it to. Once MSI version uninstalled, go to your hard drive and delete the game folders. If you feel comfortable going into the registry, go into hkey_local machine\software, and delete any gr , and redstorm, and ubi folders there. Then go into hkey_current user\software, and delete the same folders there also. WARNING: Before doing this, do 2 things to cover your butt. VERY IMPORTANT ! ! export your registry to your desktop or another safe place. If something goes south on ya, you can always go ba

We need your system specs, and if you can, post the details of the error message for me. What kind of video card? How much RAM? Which processor? Are your drivers current? If you are running XP, are you running Service pack one, and if so, did you update your mobo, chipset, and Directx drivers, and your sound drivers? Which sound card do you have? GR did this very thing with certain sound cards and drivers. In your DXDiag under the sound tab, is hardware acceleration turned off? Not always necessary, but without your system specs, I cant tell what to try.

It sounds to me like a power supply or the mobo. The info you got on the CPU temp is incorrect. They should run reliably up to about 110-155 degrees. Most run around 102-105 degrees average, unless you have a ton of cooling. And the AMD's run hotter than the Intels. For some good hardware info, check ou Tom's Hardware website.

One other thing, and this may sound stupid, but I have seen it before... is your mic plugged in to the mic port and line out port on the sound card, or plugged in to the mic and speaker ports on the modem? You need to make sure it's plugged in to the sound card, and not the modem.

If you are just getting the message "Please insert GR CD ROM and try again", it has nothing to do with DX or your video card. The Installed game, for whatever reason, doesnt recognize the .exe on the CD ROM. So, there are 2 things you can do for this..... 1). Buy the retail version, but when installing it, make sure you delete the one that came with your card and all the folders associated with it, and do a clean install. 2). The other is get ahold of a [Thing that should not be spoken of here IAW Forum Rule 3.7] patch, which I think is what the other guys were trying to point y
