And the best part? It's only 178.00 ! ! And it's a real video card, an NVIDIA ! ! !
Sorry. Couldn't let that get by me. ROFLMFAO ! !

Logos, I know all that stuff already, Im just saying it seems silly that any information is just so hard to get. No advanced game video and no game previews on any sites. just more SS's which dont realy show much at all.
Supposed to be only 6 weeks to go, on a game that was well on the way when WK saw it in Germany what seems like years ago, and just silence from all concerned.
Just seems like an un-necessaryly drawn out affair to me.

Welcome to the Ubi marketing and business model. They do this alot.

One, I think that comment was a bit uncalled for.
Two, I think ATI sucks as well, but it isn't because of the hardware. The cards themselves are great. ATI just needs to get off their ass, and write some decent software and firmware for them.
In the 16 years I have been in this profession, ATI has never written a decent driver, let alone one that wasn't bloated all to hell with unnecessary BS.
Also, their compatability with other vendors SUCKS, and always has. They are to damn proprietary to release their drivers even to the Linux community, for goodness sake, and tht would give them one helluva boost if they did.
You know what ATI is? They are the Mac of the video card world. They always will be until they smarten up. And if they ever did write a decent driver, I think I'd fall over.
But we don't need to go around telling people to shove stuff up there ###### on a game forum. It's just a tad inappropriate.
Ya know, raw number wise, Macs outperform PC's. They have always been more efficient. But everyone doesn't own one, now do they?
It's the same with ATI. They may initially bench a bit higher, but the truth isn't solely in the benches and the numbers. It's also in the compatability, and the efficiency. And in those two categories, ATI is the loser, just like Apple. For the same reasons, in fact.

Just a note: The three names in red are all the same person.
Just thought I'd throw that in there.

Response times only really apply to LCD's. The CRT's have the refresh rate that deals with that issue.
One other major thing thta you may want ot look into, is what latency some of your hardware is installed at by default.
For instance, I was having some trouble with BF2 with my 6800GT, and we couldn't figure out why.
A buddy of mine turned me on to this Latency config tool, it's in a thread here somewhere, and I found out tht the default latency was set to 248ms ! !
I cranked that baby, my NIC, and my AGP/PCI bridges down to 32ms, and voila ! !
Problems disappeared.
The tool can be found here. PCI Latency Tool 3.1 ver.2.
You'll also find that most of the stuff on your system hasn't been configured at all.

Let's hope not, but they have done it with some of their other titles, so if they do, don't be surprised.
And we have all seen games get bumped back, sometimes so much that we thought they would never come out. Harpoon 2(?) I believe is one title that Ubi did this with.(I believe that is the name of their sub game. I think it was 2 years coming in release date after release date before it finally hit the shelves, and I remeber friends of mine at the time being just totally frosted about it.
Anyway, here's hoping for March ! !

I wouldn't worry about getting a sound card either. Go for the good video card.
The days of onboard sound being the resource hog that it used to be in days of old are over. And in alot of cases, such as with the NForce sound, the quality is every bit a match for Sound Blaster.
When you're thinking about performance, think Video Card and RAM. They are the 2 heavy hitters on the team, and will make or break your game. Whether you're using onboard sound or not, won't. It just doesn't use that many resources anymore, especially considering the speed of RAM and processors these days, and even just the sheer amounts of RAM that most of us use.
The sound card will not make or break your game. And in alot of cases, like with nForce sound, you cna get all the features and quality with that , that you get with a Sound Blaster, which alot of people keep having dsriver issues with. For instance, I have nForce 2 sound, that does Dolby 5.1 and Dolby digital, as well as has 6 channels. The sound quality is awesome, and it doesn't chew up resources.
Definitely go for the onboard sound, and put the money you save on not getting the Sound Blaster right away into a better video card. That's where the meat and potatoes is.

Happy Birthday, NYR ! !

kjs7 asked if we would just slap uppers on the M4s. Not likely. That is what we have done in SOF. But that is a different process and purchasing and employment is different for acquired systems. For larger numbers there will be a purchase of a complete weapons system. Some of this is for contractual purposes/warranty and some of this may be for political purposes. Usually that is not the case after the Beretta contract. However I hope everyone knows that Beretta got the M9 contract so we could maintain US presence on Italian bases.
Careful, your tinfoil hat is showing. Beretta got the M9 contract because their gun was cheaper than the Sig P226.
As to the discussion at hand: 6.8 is a very nice round. Without further field testing, I wouldn't just come out and say that it's better than the 5.56, because I don't know that, but it is a nice round.
However, we've got billions of rounds of 5.56 in stock right now, not to mention all the ammo that our NATO allies have. Changing caliber would entail more than just buying new guns, we'd have to screw around with our ammo production, too, and then we'd be forcing it on the rest of NATO (and those countries don't have the same obscenely high military budget that we do). So I think it unlikely that we'll be switching anytime soon.
You should have been involved in the process and seen the testing involved. You are falling victim to the belief that the military's guns (or an weapon for that matter) are made by the cheapest bidder. This is in error and perpetuates the idea of an entirely incorrect purchasing process. Price is not the main factor in a military contract. Myself and two other persons just oversaw the bidding of a 7 figure contract. Guess what? It did not go to the cheapest bidder either. Price is a factor but is not the sole nor main deciding force in the contracting process. Careful, your assumption hat is showing. If you are going to insult someone, check your facts.
Boy, this is ironic, but you're assuming that I'm assuming. I'm not. I'm basing this off of actual fact.
http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg09-e.htm
"Both the SIG-Sauer P 226 and the eventual winner, the Beretta 92 passed each requirement during the trials, beating out offerings from Colt, Ruger, Heckler & Koch and Glock. The P 226 actually represented a lower cost per unit, but Beretta's cheaper accessory cost made the Beretta the winner in terms of overall cost."
So, um, I win.
True, price is not the only consideration in all military purchases, but for the M9, price played a big part (although a secondary part to actually passing the trials, of course, or else the Glock would probably have won).
So it is all about winning? It ought to be about the truth. Now your being naive. Very naive because
A) you believe what you read on some website, and
.
But yet, we should just believe everything that you have to say? Wouldn't that go against believeing something that we just read on a web-site? Because really, all you are is someone that is saying something on a web-site. And I have never known an operator to be as open about the workings of the proffesion as you are. Makes you kinda wonder.
If you are questioning HF's credentials, let me assure you: He is who he says he is. And I don't know that from reading on a website.
Ditto.
I can personally vouch that he is the real deal, and it has nothing to do with websites.

I always liked being able to get the redistributables. Then I don't have to do web installs and such.
And since directx should be installed before drivers are, it's nice to have the files to do so right on your drive.

There are programs like DOSBOX
Other than that, you're probably out of luck.
XP has absolutely no version of DOS with it at all, unlike ME/98/95. They were still DOS -based OS's.
But with XP having no legacy system at all, most games from the good ol' days just won't run.
I have however downloaded DOSBOX for both XP and for Linux as well, and will be trying them out very soon, as I have a few vintage favorites of my own.

But ,(not to get off the topic, just using this as an example) what I've heard about Lockdown, The Rainbow6 series is an official coaster for a coffee table. I just hope that, GRAW doesn't get tanked too.

I think that would depend on who you ask. As far as I know, the R6 series is alive and well, and far from being coasters anywhere. But I guess it depends on who you ask.

Right. Sometimes the best way to win a fight is to give in a little. You can't really win anything if you aren't around.
In this case, Google was right. Better to give in sometimes and live to fight another day, than fight at the wrong time, and lose everything.

You're right on that release date, bro.
But, the fact remains that those two particular game titles were inspired by the novels.
I also understand that there are Splinter Cell Novels out there, although carrying Clancy's name, are not written by Clancy, but are however based on the 4 games.
Clancy probably owns less of his own name now than anybody. It seems that way, anyway.
But the point is, in the Clancy Franchise, the books do inspire games, and the games do in fact, inspire novels.
And you forgot Sum of All Fears, which released in 2002, and is part of the same "Universe", for lack of a better word.
-
Surely you jest.

-
Rumor has it that Tom Clancy sold his rights to the "tom Clancy" titles for games to finance a divorce or some personal debt stuff.
He might like it. 50/50 chance though. I don't think this game has ANYthing to do with clancy's writings as you NEVER see books about the games or the other way around.
Actually, there are 2 books that match his games: Rainbow Six, and Sum of All Fears.
Rainbow Six was published in 1998(The book). Rainbow Six and Eagle Watch(the games) published in 2000.
The Sum of All Fears(the book) was published in 1991, and the game and movie done in 2002.
So, as you can see, both games and the Exp. for R^ were based on the books, written several years earlier in one case, and 2-3 years earlier in the other.
So, as you can see, you do see games about his books.

ill buy what ever works.
vista doesnt look horrible IMO, but not great either, Im hoping some of the graphics features wich they say are so great will be put to good use.
DX10 rev2 cards come out I'll probly buy a pair along with vista if its been patched up to work good by then.
With all of the things that were supposed to make Vista different removed becuawe MS couldn't nail them down over the past 5 years, it is in NO WAY going to be worth what they're talking about charging.
I sure won't pay what they are charging for XP's version of the ME fiasco with Vista.
XP is going to be supported at least 2 more years. So guess what? That gives MS 2 more years to see if they can iron out what were Vista's biggest selling points were, the filesystem, IE7, which the reviews are so mixed on, that I won't even try it, just because I no longer have any crashboxes. What we have here now, are 7 upcoming versions of Windows XP's version of The 98/ME joke. Right now, we all have to remeber that the core of Vista is XP, and without alot of the advertised, promised features, like the FILESYSTEM(Yeah, small point, I know)
, you really have to ask yourself if it's worth 200.00-600.00 of your hard earned money, for nothing more than some eye-candy, and half-formed programs, like directx 10, and some of the others that were supposedly being written for the filesystem that we are no longer getting. They are going to support XP until at least 2008. Put your money into games and hardware. Wait till this is out at least 6 months, before you blow 2 weeks wages on something that will ###### you off.
In this case, the early bird will definitely get something, and a worm it won't be. It will be the shaft.
-
Yeah...everything that put Vista 2 years behind has been taken out...all the things that MIGHT have made it a halfway bearable Microsoft product.
This already smells to high heaven of being a realllllly, reealllllllllllllllllllllllllllly expensive repeat of the ME fiasco.
LINUX ! ! LINUX ! ! LINUX ! ! LINUX ! ! LINUX ! ! LINUX ! ! LINUX ! ! LINUX ! !

Didn't someone say it's supposed to be released to stores in the US on March 7th?
Losing faith already?
-
I'm just like you waiting for the demo to come out and go from there with the necessary upgrade, if any.
Hmm that makes 4 ppl from Illinois now.

Is there supposed to be a demo? I haven't heard anything about this? Is the release date still scheduled for the beginning of March? When is the demo supposed to come out?
Yeah...In July. ROFL ! !

I wouldn't buy a directx 10 card until at least mid year next year, especially an ATI DirectX 10 card, with all the driver problems they have, and if you run other OS's, that could be a total disaster compatability-wise., as directx 10 won't even be released until Vista is, and we have no idea how it will act with games that are currently available. And we have no idea when Vista will be released, as it has been promised for the past 2 years, and well, we all know how that goes.

Just a word of advice. You could really end up eating alot of cash right now spending it on directx 10 hardware, when it hasn't even been tested in the real world, and it's something that isn't even released yet. You'd do well to wait till Vista and DX 10 have been out at least 6 months before jumping on that particular band wagon, unless you have money to burn.

What kind of video card do you have?

Last year November, with a 9800 Pro that I bought the year before.
Macs have always been more efficient in the way they use RAM and processor power. They have always been faster when it comes to graphics. The PPC architecture has always been faster.
The Mac's problems were always with it's proprietary nature. The same thing with ATI's drivers.
