  1. check this out... http://pcgames.gwn.com/news/story.php/id/1...reen_Light.html [Merged with the existing thread on this]
  2. Actually, the custom levels of "mhm" I put together did not conflict or crash with Biro's Castle Map as the structure I used REQUIRED the existence of Biro's map. It depended on Biro's textures, etc. This could have easily been done by other authors to avoid the crashes/conflicts. Still, the "Autodownload" wouldn't have any affect on such if all custom level bundles used unique names all would be well. hello? anyone paying attention here? GRAW1 had it! it worked fine. by the way, for those that missed out on it, GRAW1 and 2 are the same game with minor differences. it had to be restarted for the new files to load, so what! it's still better than having to search for the creator's/clan's website, register there, download the maps, and then extract them into the right folder. and i think the game still needs to be restarted after all that, doesn't it! this was most likely a corporate decision, and had nothing to do with any coding issues. let it go.
  3. wasn't there a map called London being tested? whatever happened to that... the new weapons are appreciated, but no changes in class assortment is kind of a downer... no RIZ is quite disappointing as well. if ubi hasn't allowed any new new maps to be included, they might have something else up their sleeve, hopefully... i mean, they definitely had time to create new maps, and the shotguns shouldn't have been that hard to add either, so maybe, just maybe, this is an attempt to set things straight as far as GRAW2 value goes. if people can assure their friends that the game has been "repaired" completely, online numbers could go up a bit, but i wouldn't count on it. an optimist would say this patch is a prelude to an expansion pack, but unfortunately, i'm not one of those floating in the clouds types... looks like Valentine's Day will practically be the end of developer support for GRAW2. it wasn't a bad run really, just slightly below average, which in today's PC game world is quite normal. anyway, i hope GR.net stays up for a while, with nothing GR-related on the horizon. good luck to you all.
  4. Because Blackfoot isn't out nor will be for like a year? TH33f... Shhh... They are susposed to forget i was betting on a wed release. 1-800-GAMBLER!
  5. It also kills any thought of a future expansion pack. Hmm.... I wonder. Let's put the thinking hat on for a moment. Giving the game away is like giving the razor away... if they can use the "freebie" deal to build the base of players, it gives them a bigger customer base to buy an expansion pack (thus buy the razor blades). Could there be a positive somewhere in this recent decision, or are we just like usual.... blinded to reality by our desire to have a better product? -John K. way to stay positive, but i think you got that hat on backwards... for starters, it's not free, not even to the existing FP members; only to new subscribers with a 1-year deal. naturally, it all comes down to cold hard cash. if the game is collecting dust on the store shelves, let's sell it another way. less profit is still profit. as far as building the player base and then hitting it with an expansion pack, i wish there was some truth to that... the fact is, out of dozens of thousands of people that bought the game and actually tried it online, only a few dozen stayed. GRAW2 MP should be in the encyclopedia under Failure. odds are that out of a couple of hundred suckers that decide to go with File Planet, maybe a couple will stay playing online... another important detail is the "player quality" so to speak. experienced, dedicated team players have all uninstalled the game a long time ago. the people you'll see playing today are the leftovers of noobs that have never heard of [GR], or a tactical shooter for that matter. what's funny is they are utterly terrible at run'n'gunning as well. it's just sad.
  6. to give you a guesstimate, i'd say less than 0.01% of the total number of members here. or you could say about as many as there are playing [GR] right this moment(7 years after release).
  7. remember there was a graphics update for OFP? dynamic lighting and higher res textures. that's all we needed for GR.
  8. it's a bit more specific, i guess. still, no real details. you could've basically fit the whole thing into two choices: [GR] or GRAW/2. and it's Diminished.
  9. to quote more than half of the posts in here: the games are different, doesn't feel like the original, not the same core gameplay, followed by a multitude of minor complaints, with nothing concrete being a deal-breaker. i'm sure all of you tried the castle map, recreated by Byro to the smallest detail. what's off? can you name it? one thing that isn't there, that will make things "feel" like GR? i hope some of you will actually try to answer that question. try starting with the basics of an online first person game, and you'll realize how early into AW development the GR franchise was doomed... the first thing they got wrong is the scale, generally speaking. that includes the character movement speed and the FOV angle. by the way, COD series have always had 90 degrees, and so does COD4, i think... not to mention the rifle scopes allow you to see around them quite well, except the sniper rifles, which is the exact same thing [GR] did, except there were no scope textures at all. with a scoped SCAR-L i dive into a tunnel every time i bring it up. a convenient mouse wheel controllable instant zoom! old, but it was easier! besides, Ghost Recon could be played at 150-200 FPS back in the days, while the AW brings you down to 60 in busy servers, no matter what you got in your box. with people being able to sprint, strafe and get a headshot on you within three quarters of a second, 60 FPS is not so great. again, in COD4, at 1920x1200 i had to tweak down some options to stay above 120 frames. GRIN didn't achieve that. to sink themselves even deeper into the hole, they made all the maps clear, while [GR], and excuse me, COD4, have both light and heavy fog present on nearly half of the maps. choices were made, that irreversibly distanced the both AW games' gameplay from what GR felt like. no patch, or expansion can really take care of that. more maps and features would probably breathe some life into GRAW2, but not for long, i'm afraid. at least that's what it is for me, in a nutshell. i'm playing [GR] for like a week now, and i enjoy it. oh, and i liked SOAF, of course. it was basically GR's arcade mode with smaller, much more linear maps. people just stopped playing it.
  10. reinstalled it, been playing 3 nights straight non-stop. AEG's server gets full(34 players) every night! other than some minor lag issues and 12 polygon rifle models, [GR] still is THE game.
  11. nice effort there, Colin. i was about three quarters through it, but then decided not to complete it. no offense, but here's an analogy... your questions sound like vehicle options at a dealer's lot. cloth seats, leather seats, or leather seats with heat? you know what i mean? a little too obvious. pretty much every question contains one choice that is superior to all others. it's like choosing a pair of boots over just one boot. not to mention that the choices descriptions are vague at best. if i were to create a poll like that, i would probably provide examples next to each choice. something like... weapons system. a. restricted kits choices, a la GR and GRAW2. b. award system, like COD4 or GRAW2's RvsA mode. c. total freedom, along the lines of R6: RvS and GRAW1. don't mean to rain on your parade. like i said, great effort, i just wish you were more specific throughout the poll.
  12. i kinda meant adversarial MP, but i guess i could do some co-op for old times sake. now, is the ASE still up and running with a few GR servers on it?
  13. prior to the GRAW/GRAW2 releases whenever someone mentioned GR/[GR], the next word was almost positively "dead". so now that we've seen the future(and didn't find it too bright) what's left of the original? ladders? clans? would getting a team back together be completely absurd and childish? i guess the real question is whether there are enough people playing to at least have some fun on public servers. reinstalling tonight, so a "heads up" is appreciated.
  14. haven't touched [GR] in over 18 months, i believe. i guess i could fire it up and show ya'll how it's done. who would've thought... with all the games out there, GR is still in a league of its own. oh, and Frostbite should definitely be a yes, now that i can get 2500 FPS on those maps... i think i'll even max out the game graphics settings! this will be fun. just don't ban me!
  15. They sure will. The sniper has a very specific AI for that as well, which works a little different then the rest of the team members. I didn't know that! I very rarely take a sniper because I thought he would not do the sniper's job any differently than any of the other a.i. I'll have to give him another try. Even if you give him cover order in assault mode, he will not lay down cover fire like the rest. Her will kill anything that enters his cover area though. ...except his "cover area" range is just about the same as everyone else's, so an insurgent could be within 2 feet of that boundary, well within the sniper's view, but the idiot just won't take the shot. don't get me wrong, the tactical aspect of the game is far ahead of the numerous other "attempts" out there still; it's just not perfect.
  16. it's the anthem of the Soviet Union, should be pretty easy to find... here: http://folk.ntnu.no/makarov/temporary_url_...7-bolshoith.mp3
  17. i must've opened this topic at least a dozen times, trying to get this to work on 3 different motherboards with realtek. seems i have succeeded on my oldest Asus board and the game does allow me to set the quality to extreme, except... i hear nothing! in fact, if the game is running and i tab out of it, the whole system loses sound until i quit GRAW2. sometimes i need a reboot to get it back. i'm using the digital SPDIF out and when that 2nd HD Audio Output is selected in the CP/Sound Options everything works and sounds great except GRAW2! turn off multi-streaming - and it's fine, with only medium quality, of course. has anyone dealt with something like that? where do i mess up?
  18. there's no ROF switch on rifles! patch or not, i have yet to come across an FPS that resembles [GR]'s type of action and suspense better than GRAW2 does. what's really disturbing is how popular COD4 is in contrast to GR. maybe that's the way FPS's should be made and played? are we getting old? i think not, but my video card sure is... gotta give it to Activision though, my x850Pro handles the game just fine in 1440x900 with most options turned down. as soon as my 8800GT gets here it's back to GR! and then i'd really like to see the patch come out... OMGzzZ!11 whERr FuGk PATCH!11one
  19. if your statement is made with SP in mind, consider the real-time 3d overview, available instantly at any point in the campaign... also, performance will drop due to various game characters(both friend and foe) being present around yours. in MP your framerates seem to be directly dependent on the number of players scattered throughout the map, regardless how close or far they are to/from you. i do believe the GRAW2 version of GRIN's Diesel engine is quite a bit more stable than the GRAW1 predecessor, and hopefully we'll see another bump in performance with upcoming patch, if it ever gets here that is...
  20. about half a dozen kills per hand frag was the norm on that island village. those were the good old days...
  21. the 8600 GTS oc gets me 85-90 FPS in busy servers easy. the 8800 can't get past 60! mostly stays at 35 when looking around. latest drivers, all tweaked settings... as you can tell i've gotten the 8600 to work pretty fast, but... this is bugging me out!!! suggestions?
  22. i think it was a tiny little bit compared to GRAW1. at least crouching is the same as walking now, and doesn't have the sound of duct tape being pulled off the roll. besides there are more environment sounds to mask the noise. i usually wait for a close by firefight to break out before i make a move on someone camping. you're right about getting used to GL's for matches too. the only difference to practicing it in public servers is, like you said, the infinite respawn setup. people don't care for the fact that the m203 they just used is their last one. infinite spawns and tactics live on the opposite sides of town, and they don't go together very well.
