OK, not quite given up...M4 in progress
SnowFella replied to SnowFella's topic in GR:AW - Weapon Modding
Well, I ain't about to start porting characters....from the Xbox or any other platform! GR:AW is what it is, like it or not...and if you don't like it well pull a finger out and acctually make something new for it. The exporter plugins has been released for months now and asfar as I know I'm the only one who's acctually released any new model content As my modding career ended for GR I ought to of expected GR:AW modding to take the same turn once I released something. PM's and emails are flowing in about things ppl think ought to be changed, about stuff they want to see and requests to -
You'r probably forgetting to flatten all of the layers before you save it as a .dds file, if you don't do this the whole texture will end up all black.

@Nutlink: I wish there was a way to turn the lights on and off aswell mate...there could possibly be ways to do it but I haven't been able to figure any out as I'm no scripter, just getting the .xml files for this mod in order is pushing my programming skills. @Mig1: Not at this stage mate. I'm right now enjoying taking a break from modding, can't say it stops my mind thining about future plans though...lol @Cirap: Acctually think you have your facts about the M203 launchers alittle wrong mate What you are thinking about is the M203PI that you can mount the the 6 o'clock rail, asfar a -
Hmmm...I can't remember ever seeing the Zodiac in .max form just the blackhawk, bmp and some weird Stinger wheeled vehicle. Sure he released the zodiac mate? Here's links to the .max files of those 3 vehicles for you blackhawk BMP Stinger Snow

@Keen: About the silencer model. I tried setting things up so the M4QD can only was used on the M4 but unfortunately I couldn't find any reference in the .xml files that says what model will give the suppressed effect. So nomatter what I tried with the M4QD it the M4 always sounded unsuppressed even with it mounted. So in the end I got forced to, through an .xml edit, overwrite the original primary suppressor model. There is a big note about it in the readme file, including how to revert back to the original model. -

Well, right now I'm going to hold off on making anything new or updating this mod with new files atleast untill the rumoured 1.35 patch comes out. Chances are that the release of a new patch might break this mod and I'd have to remake some files to make it work again. @Keen: Hmmm...thought it was a Colt M203 that I had made It's based on an older model though so it's possible that I've got something wrong. Exactly what differences are you talking about? Edit: ahhh...I see what you are talking about now Keen! The original model that I've adapted to GR:AW comes from a project that I wa -
It surely ain't a photoshop job...mainly because of what Serellan says but also because I've got about 25 different shots of different angles of that thing. Similar things I've seen is an Mg3 upper mounted on an AR lower

Yup, it's got a Mac10 fitted as lower reciever Scope doesn't look that odd to me though...looks like your average Acog TA11F-A scope to me.

Here's a hint on rendering wireframes for you. 1: clone your whole mesh so you have 2 identical meshes overlaying eachother. Make sure it's set as copy and not instance when you clone it or this won't work. 2: With only the clone selected apply a "push" modifier with a very small value, 0.01 will generally do. This will make your clone just that tad larger than the original mesh. 3: Apply a new material with the below settings to your clone mesh. 4: Hit the render button. You will now get a render showing both a shaded view of your original mesh and and overlayed wireframe. If y

it's really pretty simple IRL As for doing it on the M4 model I'd have to go in and change the setup in my model files quite alot. I'd first of all have to include it as an individual group in the m4.diesel file, probably named something along the lines of "gfx_rail_loda, gfx_rail_lodb and gfx_rail_lodc", that would require a total re-export of the model from 3dsm. Then I'd have to edit just about all the attachments .diesel files and remove the rail mesh. And lastly in the M203's properties file (m203.xml) I'd have to include some lines of code that tells the game to hide the rail me -

I've had one issue brought up by email when it comes to this mod...it's installing and running it if you have any other language than english set by default. If you do you would have to install the mod into your default language folder, be it polish, spanish or whatever. I haven't had a chance to test this but it ought to work, with the downside being that the selectable items in the inventory will be displayed in english. @bati_gol_20: Thanks mate @philkilla: Well, to really get it working you would most likely have to go through all the older mods and make them 1,3 compatible, if I r -
hehe...that one isn't half as weird as something I found a long time ago when hunting for M249 pictures, even took me a while before I noticed there was something funky going on with the pics. Here's an example of it. Find what's wrong if you can

Thanks D...just wish I would of had more time on my hands so I really could of finished off the visual look of the model, like making a proper normal map for the whole mesh and not having to rely on a bump conversion for most of it. @philkilla: It shouldn't really be that hard to combine them all as most files are unique, it's only a handful of files that would have to be consoidated into one single .xml file. The main problem right now is that most other weapon mods were made pre 1.3 and won't really work with the 1.3 patch installed, if I remember right the MR-C68 is pre 1.3 and would cr -

Cheers guys. Always nice to get some pleasant feedback Now some answers here. @GrimeyAK: As you might of noticed by now the taclights and peq2 are permanently on, if you select one of them then that's it...they will even be on when the rifle is slung or the handgun sits in it's holster. Might be very important to know if you will be using any of them in adversarial MP as you will be seen over a greater distance, but then again could come in very handy on a nighttime CQB map as you just about can blind your opponent @tilliboy: The PEQ2 beam points straight ahead from your rifle so i -

Thanks Rocky! Funny thing is that it all started as a joke inbetween me and Prozac. With me saying over MSN that I ought to try tossing one of my already made models into GR:AW just to see how the public would react....and then never release it publicly. That changed rather quickly though after seeing that there was a genuine interest in something new, and with all the work I had to put in to acctually get it working. More times than I care to think about I was damn near giving this little project up because I just couldn't get my head around the inner workings of the Diesel engine, I -
Well, with release only being a few hours away, unfortunately forced by the fact I have other things I need to take care of, I guess we can close this thread for good. Release statement in other forum....and a view of something new also included. SNow

thanks mate And yeah, both the M4 and 1911 are fully selectable for you and your teammates along with all available attachments...both in SP and MP. The Surefire X200 light for the 1911 is btw alittle weaker than the M900 light that you can fit on the M4, it just won't light up the darkness as far or as bright. -

Good news, the package is with Rocky at the moment so expect a download link as soon as he can get around to it. It's currently 1am in England and he's said he'll set it up first thing in the morning. Now to let the cat out of the bag regarding the easter egg, and hopefully spark some more interest Here it is....MEUSOC .45 Handgun with attachments Equipment screen (Click for larger image) Ingame screen (Click for larger image) Reload animation (Click for larger image) -
There's 2 more thing that might hint at it being a "filler" piece that they have broken out of storage. 1: The article speaks about the ghosts taking out terrorist cells in Mexico. Doubt GR:AW 2 (if there will be such a thing from GRIN) would still be set in Mexico. 2: The photo and text accompanying it speaks of the modeler in the picture creating a grenade machinegun, he's got a mini replica of a Mk19 sitting on his desk. There is already a Mk19 in GR:AW....why would they reinvent the wheel and model a new one if they already have one made?

Alrighty, I'm currently uploading what I'm hoping to be the very last beta for some testing by the GR.net supporters. Hopefully some of them can give the mod a run through quickly and don't report any serious bugs. If that's the case expect to see a download link posted within 48 hours Edit: Oh, and the "easteregg" is ingame and working nicely -

I resolved it the only way I know how to....I raised the front sightpost about half an inch. Does mean it looks alittle bit tall when you see it from the 3rd person perspective but I hardly notice from 1st person. -

Well, it depends alittle on how you use meshsmooth mate. In some cases if you use it with 0 iterations and 3dsm/gmax will report your mesh as being lower in polygons because meshsmooth sometimes removes unneeded edges...perticularly on the top and bottom of cylinders. Meshsmooth also applies some smoothing to your mesh that will make it look nice and smooth. Another better way of getting that smooth look is simply by using smoothing groups. Even fairly sharp edges can get a smooth look with clever use of smooth groups. Here's an example for you. Both meshes have identical geometr

It is using the original SCAR L sound. Unfortunately whatever little talent I might have haven't carried over to sound design so I think I'm better of going with the already excellent sounds that ship with GR:AW, if I tried making something it would most likely sound horrible. Current status on the pack is that I'm pertty confident that I have managed to iron out most of the bugs...right now I'm working on something that if I get it to work also will come with the package. Call it an easter egg...those who have played [GR] with my XM8 Armory should know what I mean by an easter egg -

Well, currently GR.net supporters are giving it a run to see if they can find any bugs...and they have indeed found both one and 2 that I still have to fix. So give it a few more days and I should ought to be able to set it free, hopefully without any bugs.
