  1. Yes well, it's treading the line. For me anyway. I'm particularly interested in siege, and ic that shot u have has the BDA server at 31/32. Same deal last night, and for a while it was 1 of 4 that had anyone at all. Later, another one was half full. Again, a person can only play on one server at once, so I'm not exactly complaining, but I'm a lil worried.
  2. The improvement to mp btwn release and yesterday is considerable. The amount of ppl who have given up and moved on is, apparently, also considerable. I was able to play as much siege, really, as I wanted to yesterday, so perhaps it will stay that way. After all we don't need 100 full servers. I think it has the feeling you describe, but 1 death servers I didn't see. They were 3 or 5.
  3. I actually considered that GRIN & Ubi Shanghai were both like...hell, we can't get this (GRAW and SCDA, respectively) done boss. And Ubi was like, oh no, ONE of u is going to be "finished" by the end of Q1, we gots mouths to feed. And made them draw straws.
  4. Did ZA call Bo a liar and Bo call him & his supporters trolls? I wouldn't want this thread to get off topic. On a related note, when I was young, not necessarily just my parents, but society at large seemed to indicate to me that if I did all right in school, including university, that life would be pretty good & all kinds of opportunities would be mine. What happened with that? And on an unrelated note, is adv mp fun now?
  5. Then I don't understand? I haven't played since b4 the first patch (currently awaiting the last), but at that time, I ran coop matches over hamachi LAN. Does that help? It ran fine. What on Earth is this about a 3d party server?
  6. From what I've read, apparently it either makes no difference, or is better not to have them installed. The money question works like this. Physx: "Hey, GRIN/UBI here's $100,000 here's our junk code, can you push this for us?" They say "Sure, great!" If they were now to tell you're game will run better if you don't have those drivers installed, Physx would ask for their damn money back. If they didn't get it, I'm sure lawyers would. Follow? Just gotta go with ppl who've run benchies for this, and trust them. There is almost certainly something about it on tweakguides, but I haven't looked.
  7. It's funny--har har--to go thru these threads sometimes and see what ppl want, or expect, from this game. GRIN is not the first, nor will the be the last, dev to futz up mulitplayer. The thing that constantly amazes me, with GRIN & GRAW, Gearbox & Halo, Dice & BF2, on and on, is: sometimes it seems as if they've created the online portion in a vacuum, as if they've never played a mp shooter. Now, none of the games I picked out are bad, necessarily (go ahead and make ur case for BF2 if you like), but critcial things are missing that really defy common sense. You could prolly list them for me; I don't need to, right? iD was banging on this stuff before most of today's devs saw a naked breast other than their mother's. Go back and look, learn. For example, as related to this thread, I wouldn't even want to guess how many custom skins there are for Quake 2. Why could that be? Bc ppl like to make and use custom skins?! I dunno why this stuff isn't provided, it's not as if it wouldn't help the $ flow. Maybe it's deadlines. Maybe it's too difficult for some people. I can't figure it out. But I can figure that I don't like it. Thanks for the sig, Peace.
  8. Yes. Someone is making money by having that installer imbedded in the AW image, and it's not you.
  9. I know what ur saying, but I can only be disappointed so many times by the same thing b4 I throw in the towel. I'd like to give it one more chance, but I can't tell if the game's really improved as of now or if ppl just keep hoping it will. I guess it will be impossible to tell unless I try.
  10. http://www.beerdrinkingassasins.com/module...?name=Downloads Is a blank page. I have a question generally that might deserve it's own thread but here goes anyhow: As background, I liked AW sp & coop ok, had some fun. I uninstalled this game bc the mp was supbar. My question is, do new maps and new game types make this fun? Or should I wait for the final patch? TIA
  11. QFT That game needs players too. There's really nothing to complain about in that game (comparitively speaking), and it's the sort you sound like you'd enjoy. I've been playing Ship lately myself...I've turned into such a steamho. At any rate, just wanted to see if this game had been fixed yet, guess not. I would've uninstalled already but I get the 6001/6003 error and haven't had the patience to do the safe mode crud to get it done, but from the looks of things, there's no reason not to. Cheers
  12. Ack...the dreaded bf2. I started playing Red Orchestra Osfront a few days ago. It's hawt.
  13. Altho I'm not "in the know" I think you can chalk that up to bad writing. I think what should be said is they are going to release a map editor (period). Obviously, you can't edit tdm maps if the mode isn't available. The only reason, perhaps, for repeating the bit about the map editor is that it's a positive way of saying that the other modes released secondarily will not be able to be edited (like, HH). Why on Earth not, well as for that u got me.
  14. Well, don't go berserk on comparisons. FEAR didn't have a dedicated server until months after release...which is prolly why there isn't much of a community to speak of *hint hint*. They are putting some effort in, but it took too long.
  15. I'm not over anything...in fact, I think I'm going to give up. I was interested in this upcoming patch, until I realized that it didn't include a dedicated server release. I'm puzzled as to why this--what ought to be requisite "feature" for any game aspiring for a mp future--should be left out, then continually ignored. Did it really not occur to anyone at Grin before release? After release and it became obvious that this was an issue, does it really take more than a month to do? (Maybe it does, I don't know). I have been hesitating to uninstall it bc somehow I hadn't given up hope. But now I see this game is just taking up space on my hd that is getting pretty full with games that function the way they should. I'm not going to crack the discs in half tho...so who knows? But I'm now figuring that if this is ever up & running the way I, and many others, thought it would be, it will be a surprize that I'll enjoy, rather than something I continue to actually expect. Enjoy my money grin & ubi, go buy yourselves something nice
  16. Well, iono about all that. I can understand someone feeling that way however. This "situation" is sorta starting to remind me of others, such as existed with Halo PC & CoD2, where the community started feeling jerked around enuff so ppl started leaving. Sometimes it's hard to tell when the death gong is ringing, but this "event" isn't helping any. I'm leaving it installed for now and hope to play some decent pvp mp one of these days. The one plus is both ubi (even ubi!) and grin seem to be showing some enthusiasm, even if it's misplaced on occasion. Some boards are just left bone dry until the game & community wither in sordid frustration. Givin' this one more month, but I do feel a bit cheated atm.
  17. I'm glad they are patching it & all, it's been "on hold" on my pc until they fix it. But they way they are doing it is unprecedented crapola. I suppose I should thank them for not charging for it the way EA would. I mean, fo' real, who holds back a patch from paying customers for an "event"? Anyone ever heard of something even remotely similar?
  18. If u can keep ur ghosts alive (at least one!) by moving them behind cover, u can make it. I did that & stayed behind the broken staircase on the 1st floor of the embassy, popping out to call in the apache. The tanks are the problem, once you eliminate those, the AI will do ok against the soldiers. They stink for taking cover when tanks are firing on them however.
  19. "Normal" fov in fpses has traditionally been 90. The first game I played with a tighter one was Halo (which was 70). Devs claimed it "worked" bc you had a helmet on. I too change settings when allowed to 110 to get more awareness, but if everyone's on the same page in mp it's not that big a deal. I'd sure *like* to change it, if they saw fit to add that possibility.
  20. Just about every time I catch a slug in the head on sp/coop, the withered old Gen. Fossil starts screaming at me for a "sit rep." My sit rep is with my last moments of consciousness I have to hear you bleeting at me. Dear GRIN, Either a) shut him up so I don't feel the urge to twist his dried prune of a head off his scrawny neck or even better: b) at the end of the game let me twist his dried prune of a head off his scrawny neck...heck, u can even make it a cut scene I don't control. I'm in let's see..Ready for Bear, so there's time to get this patched up nicely. TIA.
  21. That's close to a deal breaker. I definitely don't want to ever see the end of vip2 again. Hard to imagine why this wasn't mentioned in the patch notes. Really, really hard.
  22. Silly run around? Hey, w/Hamachi, coop works perfectly and while this is utterly mysterious, it's the way to go. I wanted to throw in a tiny hijack concerning coop. When ever I'm in a coop on the mission Ready for Bear, right after the first new objective is given (so, the 2nd overall), someone is kicked from the server. Without fail. This doesn't happen on any other map. Fix please thanks.
  23. Domination right now is nearly unplayable over the internet. It's obvious that the lack of a dedicated server is a big problem. I did manage to log in and play some, and it sure looks like it could be fun, heck, I think it even was fun for 30 seconds at a time here & there. Every server I tried but one had lag so bad, it was simply a matter of luck whether or not ur shots connected. The problems begin with the interface. Most ppl are likely to report it's impossible to log in to gamespy so they can't even see a server list. Truth is, when you first use the log in screen you have to make sure to TAB out of every field (so none is hilighted) then log in. Otherwise, it won't work--there are a variety of error msgs one can get if you don't do this. I got disconnected a lot, and no, it's not my connection. A neat feature is if you get disconnected in a load screen with text, the disconnect msg window is unreadable because the window is translucent, overlaying other text. There's clearly something wrong with the gamespy interface overall. If I host a coop LAN, it works perfectly. If I do it over the net, problems arise as in: the server didn't show the name I put on it, it didn't have the pw I typed, and after I died, I got disconnected with the error msg: cd key invalid (it is obviously valid). One particular instance I think sums up what's going on right now as far as domination is concerned. I was playing along in a server, the lag was pretty bad, I even got shot from around a corner while entire clips of mine got chewed up and spit out by the enemy. The match ended, and I got a load screen for the next match. An error msg came up about being disconnected, but it was unreadable. But I could here my rig chuggin away, so I waited. I loaded to this: http://www.donutwar.com/mopap/wtfgraw.jpg As it turns out, I wasn't online anymore. I can only figure those things are spawn markers for the enemy in coop/sp. HOW this happened is beyond me. The sp is fine (tho sometimes buggy), coop is fun over LAN, but the whole internet thing is zooed so badly, it almost seems as if it was untested. But the potential is there, among the foul smelling weeds... *edit* OH and let me add, if the dom mode has a death limit, you are treated to a lobby screen for the rest of the match if ur bounced out. You can't watch the action. This is nuts!
