  1. Not sure how you can tell how many weapons we get from a couple screens and vids. I think that we get more weapons as we progress through the SP campaign. Possibly, the weapons you saw are just the default ones we get to choose from before any new ones were unlocked. The videos you watched were not from a finished\complete build. It only contained a "few" levels and such. Who knows whats in store for the MP. Not to mention that we will be adding and modding new weapons in for a long time.

  2. Ahhh,  it feels good to continue to keep GRIN on their toes.  Don't open up the champagne just yet GRIN!  I mean, well, it was your decision not to release a demo so you won't have the luxury of doing any fine tuning based on player feedback.  I hope your staff is going to be prepared to do the work on the first patch.  Stay glued to this forum.  This forum is going to help you make or break this game.

Bo, we dont all share this guys opinion. Thanks for spending your time here with us. Most of us do appreciate what you have done.

Well of course you don't! Where were all you recruits when this site debuted?....uh huh thought so. And with all due respect to their team's staff I don't care how good GRIN is. I'm not gonna slobber all over em like you guys are doing. They have to earn the respect first. UBI DESTROYED any respect and trust they once had with the fanbase with the gr2 episode.

So I am extremely cautious to whom I give that trust to now. Its the GAME that matters. So I will express my opinions to the point which I think is necessary to make sure that this game earns the right to be called.......Ghost Recon!

After the debut (assuming all goes well) then you all can slobber and worship. Not before. <_<

They already earned my respect by just being here. No other developer around would have put the amount of time and effort into the community like Grin has. Answering all the questions they were able to, taking the time to see what we wanted in our next version of GR and implementing it. Grin apparently has respect for you as a gamer..and you are being very ridiculous not showing it back in return.

  3. Ok GRIN I'm with the IGN people when I ask this.....

What do they mean by "more actiony"?? I hope they don't mean its more arcadey than GR1.  <_<

You haven't played it, so how can you be with the IGN people? Geez man, play it first.

I'm with them because I trust the people over at IGN. I agree with their opinions on all of the ghost recon titles. So when they say that this graw is a bit more arcadey as compared to GR1 then it doesn't take too much of an imagination to try to understand where they are coming from especially as I watch the videos.

HOLD ON THERE. They say ACTIONY not ARCADY ...

I think you are the one that needs to lay of the champagne...

  4. stealth is married with tactics

Your argument posed no counter whatsoever. What exactly are you disagreeing with? You believe stealth and tactics are identical terms? That's blatantly ridiculous. I can link you to a good online dictionary if you like.

Same thing I said before. Stealth is NOT the same thing as Tactics, no matter how much you want to claim it is. Using stealth is a tactic, but do not mistake a lack of stealth for a lack of tactics. If you do have military training, you would know this.

Far too many people in the GR and R6 communities have mistaken stealth for tactics, assuming that if you're not moving slow and quiet, then you're not playing 'tactically'. It's a flawed and arrogant presumption by many in the two communities. Stealth helps, and it's probably the easiest of tactical methods to use in a video game situation, but it is certainly not the only one.

May sound crazy but you can use "tactics" in even a game like Quake 3. All tactics are, is a set of procedures or strategical decisions used in acheiving a finished goal. No matter how a person decides to reach that goal wether it be stealthy or like a kamikazze it's still called a tactic.

  5. I can confirm this, no shooting while running, no zooming while running and no zooming while moving in prone-stance. You learn really quick not to run around corners..

Awesome. this makes for a lot more tactical game.

I have a question; is it possible to shoot or zoom while WALKING. ?

Absolutely! you can zoom and shoot while walking, with your teammates covering your sides you can make a deadly tactical advance.

I would think that by reading what bedhead wrote, if we can still shoot while walking, we can probably still shoot while straffing.Straffing while shooting is a legitimate and realistic tactic. Running full speed and spraying is not. I play much like you do BTK. I would even go as far to say I probably push that left shift key 300 times in a 10 min game. Its almost a nonstop sequence of pushing that button and remembering where those red dots are and predicting where they will go. Then go there as soon as you get done with the firefight your currently in.

  6. I just hope this doesn't turn into another 450,000 view thread

I knew that was coming... :P

If the download is going slow for you guys, try different mirrors on the server. The first two I tried was going at about 8kbs. Then I tried distro #13 and the download speed was at 350k. There is some very cool, clips in that interview. Looks like GR.. :)

  7. It would be impossible to hit anyone, if you take off and start running full speed and start unloading a fully automatic rifle. You could kill yourself doing so. That would be about the only person you would hit. Yourself. Im sure they mean you cant run full speed and pull up your gun. Im guessing you can "fast walk" and fire for CQB, though your accuracy would be affected. On the trailer it shows them walking fast and firing.

  8. 1. You should not be able to shoot while running. I think this is being implemented, if so, no running and gunning.

    2. You should not be able to run with weapon in full zoom. Actually, I do not see how you can crawl and use a scope either. Walking and using a scoped view is fine. Can someone supply ann answer?

Question for HF - can the SCAR-H take an AK magazine? If not, can the SCAR-H mag take AK ammo? Looking at the rationale for picking up AK ammo.

I'm pretty sure that in the GR.net report Colin discusses that you are able to run in a couple stances, and it is always a "weapon lowered" run. I assume that if running is weapons down, you definitely can't run while using a scope.

I can confirm this, no shooting while running, no zooming while running and no zooming while moving in prone-stance. You learn really quick not to run around corners..

    Perfect...

  9. This is the reason we are worried about the dedicated server and would like some info from Bo about it:

http://fpsdedicated.com (read the statement under the announcement for Lockdown...right on the front page)

We are just looking for some information so we can decide whether or not we are going to be able to invest in this game with our clans or if we should look elsewhere.

As I have stated before, I am sure this game is going to rock for SP and it sounds like those who like co-op will like it as well. But for those of us who play these games for competition on ladders and for the MP exclusively, this is a very important subject.

I assumed that if they told this site about the MP aspects of the game, they could answer some questions and clarify this 'preview'.

I definitley understand and agree with both of your concerns in this matter. Its a very important feature to include with any MP game. Like NYR said, GRIN are gamers too. They certainly understand about MP gaming. I also match and ladder online. I would be just as upset as you guys about not having a way to get support from dedicated hosts. We will just have to keep playing the waiting game, like we have all this time with everything else and just see if we get the required server files. I was merely referencing my earlier post to the respawn comments. DB,,Nighthawk if this game hits off like I think it will. We will definitley have some way to get dedicated hosting. Anyone remember the tools the GR modders made? G.R.U.N.T comes to mind (developed by Col.BlackHawk).. I know of a few hosts that used it. If there is a big enough demand and people want to play this game. Wether this game comes with what we need or not..we will figure out something. Just like we did before with other things [GR] didnt have. No matter if it comes with it or not, from what I can tell we have a hell of a game that we are fixing to get to play.

  10. No dedicated files at launch = quick and painless death of multiplayer.

GR is old, and no one played it. GRAW needs dedicated files in order to be a successfull multiplayer game, it is as simple as that. And I don't trust their homebrew anti-cheat. What happens once they stop supporting the game ? Quick and painless death of multiplayer because of cheaters. I know GRIN will do their best to support the game as long as they can. Ubisoft on the other hand don't give a wooden nickle about post-production support and once they start cutting the cash flow, GRIN will be screwed and cheaters will be happy.

And what about that respawn crap in multiplayer ? Are they going to pull a lockdown on us ?

GR1 had plenty of dedicated servers, and lots of people played it, so don't know what your talking about. Also in 2001 the game wasn't old, it was brand new. Remember something called the GOTY? It was a very popular game even a year after it was released.

Personally I prefer an anti-cheat solution created by the developer over something like PB. Everyone knows people can get around PB easy enough, I'd prefer something built into the game that can be fixed and updated by the people who built the game engine.

I wonder if some people even played GR1 online, because its common knowledge that GR1 has multiple respawn options (not to mention it was the first RSE game to feature them). So how can it be shock or a travesty when the series has always featured repsawns?

If I want respawns, I'll go play Quake 4. Real soldiers don't respawn after being shot, they rot.

Thats ridiculous, if you want to play without respawns. Im not stopping you, the devs are not stopping you and ubi isnt stopping you. Just join a non-respawn server. At least everyone has the option to do what they want. Thats what made GR great. The diversity in how you could play.

[GR] had respawn options, there wasnt any problems with it then. Your talking about death of multiplayer. I gurantee you if this game did not have any respawn options, multiplayer would be dead. There would be far far less people playing it. Which means far less modders, far less server support from hosting companies. I like both respawn and non-respawn games. But, if I wanna play a no respawn game,I`ll just hop in one of those servers. Problem solved. I dont see how just having an extra option to turn them on or off is going to do anything but help make the game bigger and better. Its the way [GR] was, no need to change it.

  12. Maybe we can get some real info about the multiplayer, other than co-op, from this event.

Thats what Im hoping for as well. I'd like to hear about all the modes, map sizes, weapon restriction options, spectator modes, amount of maps, etc..

  13. Great Preview, very detailed and in-depth. It is by far the best recent review I have read of the game. It answered most questions I had before the read. The only thing left that I would like to know. Is what were the system specs on the machine you played it on. From those system specs what type of performance were you receiving? Thanks again for a great review.

Thank You, I will find out the full spec on the machine.

It was set on medium detail, looked really good, and played as smooth as a ### bottom. :)

Hey Colin, dont wanna sound like im trying to aggrevate you. :D But, were you able to find out the specs on the machine you tried the game on? Would you happen to know if the card you used was a standard 6800 or a GT? Ive got two machines that are going to play GRAW here at home. One of which is a standard 6800. I would like to get a general idea of what upgrades I need, if any, before the game comes out. As Im wanting both of them to be able to play on Medium settings at least. Thanks Colin.

  14. I guess you guys didn't know Stalker_Zero is also called "The Bank."

He can afford even our Dream Rigs.

When you do get it Stalker_Zero, please do a review.

    :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:

I've read that gamers with widescreen capability gets a wider peripherial advantage.

    Kodus to you Sir!

    You know I will!!

Heck, you guys just don't realize how crazy I am...especially for gr.

And as a matter of fact I do know indeed how much power its gonna take to run the dell 3007. In fact, I'm waiting for the nvidia card based on the g80 chip to come out. So I've decided to skip the 7900 cards because really they are ultimately a refresh of the architecture found in the 7800 cards. And that quad sli stuff is just flash and nonsense. Its the next gen g80 chip that I'm interested in and that baby should run 2560x1600 games with all the eye candy turned on with good frame rates. Plus, I'm going to upgrade my systems 2 gigs of ram and max the mobo out at 4 gigs! PLUSSSSS I'm also gettting the aegia physics card from bfgtech!!

Yes, I may be insane.....but I know what I'm doing.

*rattles cage* Now someone tell me bout graw's top resolution dang nabbit before the full moon hits and I break my chains and get loose!!!

    *owwwwwwwooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh* *howls* :FIREdevil:

Must be nice..Im hoping with my rig that I can pull off 1280x1024 at med settings. Anyways..congrats on the new PC. :)

  15. Not badmouthing VeLocityChaos post on Cyberpower, but I read on Epinion that actual customers who posted pics of their Cyberpower PC ARE NOT satisfied with their tech support.  They DO like the PC though.

I do agree with VeLocityChaos that building IS THE CHEAPEST way to getting a gamer rig.  Its scarry at first but GR.NET has build guide, yes its older but the same principle.  There's plenty of ppl who gladly help you.  Maybe too many sometimes that its confusing.

My recommedation if you having someone build it for you is a Mom and Pop store.  NOT GEEKSQUAD from BestBuy or Compusa.  I mean a small store that can cater to a few, to keep things personal.

One company I've personaly dealt with is Falcon-NW's Talon.  Their PC is straight gamer, their staff are gamers, the person that built your PC is ALSO your Tech support.  Which make sense since he/she built it, right? Skip the paint jobs and window etching.

Hey, no worries. :) I had a friend that bought a pc from cyberpower last year. He had no complaints. The pc was well put together and shipped very securely. I think he even got it 2 days early. It may be true with the tech support. I dont think he even had to call them. Its good that you checked on that though. I probably would have checked to before making a decision to do business with them.

With the small stores, they usually are higher in prices. Due to them having to pay more than the chain stores. Mostly because they don't buy in bulk. At least they are more that way around here. So, he wont get as much for his money. Either way, like we both agree, he would be much much better off just building himself a computer with the 400 bucks.
