I think it's a clever idea. And I'm not going to be negative and shoot it down before I even have a chance to play it. It could be the greatest thing since sliced bread.
It is a clever Idea..It sounds very fun. Im not really speaking negative about it. Even though I havent played it. It states right there on that screen shot plain as day, you get tactical points and you can buy stuff with it. This in itself makes the objective unrealistic. I'd rather play serious gaming on a real objective, with real penalties. You spam all your nades, tough luck, you dont get anymore. Like Siege. I`ll still play the Domination mode though. It sounds kinda familiar to the Joint Ops style of gameplay called "Advance and Secure". Without the tactic money.
So, in this case, I can tell I wouldnt wanna match on this full time without playing it.
-
If I read correctly they do not make you buy stuff. At the beginning of the match you are able to pick a weapon and such. I get the feeling that these equipment points are more for restocking on ammo and grenades, not for the actual buying of weapons.
No from what it reads, they dont "make" you buy anything at all. Pre-game you pick your equipment. Then during the game while making kills and securing zones you get "tactical points" errr "tactic money". Then you are able to go to the supply zones and buy more grenades, or possibly trade for different rifle while in mid game. So as long as you are scoring points and getting to the zones, you will never run out of ammo.
That is what I personally wouldnt find "match friendly". It would be a fun game to just play on. But for serious competition with 0-3 respawns. I think you should get the loadout you started with. This would allow people to waste their ammo, spamming grenades, because they can just "buy" more with fake money.

Striker... thanks, missed that screenie... looks much better then the other one.
Velocity
Here is the problem... better texture = harder to aquire target then less...
IN GR1 MP all clans run on low settings. Why you ask? Because the textures don't blend in as much and the bushes become paperlike allowing you to pick your enemy out easily in what they may think is cover. Also settings like AA and such increase visibility over a distance. That means the more money you put into your card the better you become... not your skill. I guess you can see a little of what i mean by that.
I do agree with that, but as long as there is an "absolute minimum" that everyone can scale from in various degrees it would be no different than it is now. There already is an absolute minimum for every setting. Its called the Low setting that you can choose. Whatever the value for the low setting is like for say the number of dynamic lights. Lets just say low = 4 lights for argument sake. So. low=4 med=8 high=16. So, 4 being the absolute minimum you can choose. Id have the option to choose any number between 4 and 16.
Say someone has a 6600GT 128megs. When he puts the dynamic lights setting on high the game is almost too choppy..It runs smooth in some places..but overall not a very smooth and crisp game. When he puts it on medium, he has extra performance left. But he has no setting to try the value of 12, to make it look better than what medium will offer.
Thats just one example of why I like having the option to pick and choose myself of what I want. That is an advanced setting, not Low,Med,and High options.
Or say someone wants to play the game in very high resolutions. The crosshair may seem too small. The player may want to enlarge it. Another harmless option.Or someone like me who doesnt want to play with a crosshair at all. Im definitley wouldnt be abusing any options by not playing with a crosshair. I prefer my games to look as real as possible with the best performance I can get. Most newer games are allowing that through detailed settings.
Lets just say that someone doesnt like the huds opacity. Whats wrong with being able to set the transparency from 0=off to 5=on
With the AA comment, Im sure you are aware that, the AA settings can be changed through your graphics options on your driver program for your graphics cards. So wether its there or not in game, it will still be changed.
My point is as long as there is an absolute and locked minimum to all settings. There is no cause for concern for people abusing it. Because, like I said, there already is one. The low setting.

They usually release stuff on Tuesdays and Thursdays..So if it is released this week it will likely fall on one of those days.

.SF Citizen Kained,Apr 17 2006, 11:47 AM]I dont know if this has been discussed but does anyone know how long the loading times will be for a mission? I hope they arent as long as bf2 because i have 1 gb of ram and it still takes 3 minutes to load a map....
On the version I played it took at least 3mins on a monster rig. The screen was black with no hourglass and it all looked like it had crashed. This was beta though.
Seems we have a conflicting view guys.
Not really..In MP there is a loading screen and you have to wait, In SP the game loads in the background somehow.

Note how it says you buy equipment with tactical points. The whole thing sounds fun, but it's not something I would want to play Fulltime as a GR gamer. I wouldnt want to play in a match and lose because someone decided to buy more grenades when they spammed them all.

I would think that there would at least be the now "expected" modes of DM and TDM on top of Domination and COOP.
I am sure there is. Personally, I will be more interested in the Coop over the Domination mode. Simply because I dont like the fact that you can buy equipment on the battlefield with "tactical points". It sounds like a fun game for awhile but the unrealistic aspect of it would become dull. I am more of a realistic goal type player. Siege and SaR or even HambHill..would be my game of choice if its included. If a siege game is included, I would most likely be Siege and Coop only. I doubt SAR is included, because there are no civilians in the game. Shame, that was my favorite mode in [GR].
If we get something thats similiar to what IGOR was. Hopefully we can use our imaginations like before, and create some new gametypes. I once created a 5 hostage SAR, all hostages were vulnerable to gunfire they were also spread out randomly at different places on the map,. Lots of tactics involved there. ;-)

.SF Citizen Kained,Apr 17 2006, 04:28 PM]
I'm pleased my post has got u lot chatting. I'll check again for anymore questions tomorrow.
At the end of the day we will all be playing this game in 30days or so. Some will love it some will hate it.
I'm from the old school R6 days and RS and GR1 and its along the same lines.
Its realistic, not a shootemup BF2 style game.
More from FPSFORCES.co.uk tomorrow.

Thanks again, Kained for takin time out and sharin.

Its time for my first negative comment as well. Maybe its just the build that we are seeing. But it seems as if this game has very little advanced options to customize the game, graphics, and sound. Where is the AA setting? Where are the HDR settings? Where are the particle debris, bullet marks, dead body settings? How come we cant adjust the opacity of the hud? Or a simple setting to adjust crosshair size, color, or even if it is turned on at all.
Limiting these options may be a good thing actually. The less of these, the less chance someone will change something to give them a BIG advantage over someone who did not. In MP that is a good thing that is. Also it uses xml... bet some of the settings is buried from the normal users sight in an xml file somewhere.
Personally I think the HDR looks fantastic, but it's obviously a personal thing. Also, I've not played the game yet so I'm basing my judgement on videos and screenshots only. However, living in a country with seriously hot and sunny days I like the realistic way the lighting changes how everything looks, since thats pretty much how it is in real life. In summer I cannot go outside without sunglasses, unless its raining - the brightness is actually physically painful.@ ROCOAFZ: I dont see how any of those options I mentioned could give an opposing player an ufair advantage. Whats wrong with having the AA setting in game? How can adjusting the amount of time that particle debris last laying on the ground or the amount of bullet holes that can be in the walls, give an unfair advantage? What would be wrong with be able to change the size and color of the crosshair while in game. Most games give you the option to change between 20 or so different designs. Im aware that it uses XML...but if an option as simple as AA isnt included in the graphics options. Then I doubt the more advanced options that most games have standard will be in the XML. I could be wrong. Its just an observation.
@ Trident-za: I agree that the HDR is awesome. But, for people like Aaronson who dont. We should of had some more options to adjust it. Like the refresh rate of it,(how fast the dynamics of the light move). Or the amount of HDR, from 0-Max. Not only will these kind of small but helpful options solve the complaints of people who dont like HDR. It will also help those who wish to tweak their game to look as good as possible, but still perform well.
With just basic High,Med,Low on a few options, from the ingame menu anyway, there will not be much tweakers can do to improve performance and appearance.

I noticed in the I27 thread 'Screen Wobble' was used to simulate movement, walking, running etc. I assume this is what most games call 'Head Bob'.
My question is can this be toggled On/Off?
Some games allow this to be toggled which is very welcome as some games can cause nausea/travel sickness with this option on.
According to the options screenshot. There are no toggles for anything like that. Unless we get to adjust that stuff via the console. Your probably stuck with it.

Where are the aftergame statistics?
I thought it should be pretty standard to display the amount of shots fired\hit. Type of weapon each player used. The status of their health when the game had ended. I thought we were going to get to see even more statistcis this time around. Like distinguish which kills were made from grenades, suicides, gunshots and publish them at the end of the game. What about teamkills will those be shown at the end of a round? Dont get me wrong the game itself looks great. But Ive always like a ton of options for my games so I can customize it to my own personal liking. I was under the impression that GR:AW was gonna have a ton of nice options. Unfortunatley the options are extremely basic.Last question, we will have access to the engine controls via console?
-
Both Ram and Hardrive will help with loading times. Personally I think the harddrive will make a bigger difference. Ive got a 17GiG raptor ready to be dedicated for GR:AW and Mods only.
-
i cant take it anymore, who do I have to bribe to get a demo!
the game looks near perfect. I havent wanted to play a game more since dodgeball back in 2nd grade.
Like virgins in a stripclub. Just look..dont touch.

LOL.. I think he means that, the video we are watching is the opening scene of the game. It will kinda ruin the awe effect, after already seeing it. At least thats what I hope he means..

-
Id like to see siege as well as SAR. I loved playing SAR..Actually, just all the modes that were in [GR].

-
Apologies if this was already asked...I didn't have the time (ok..desire...) to read the whole thread. The footage looked incredible...absolutely mindblowing. Does anyone know the specs of the computers that GR:AW was being played on at this event? I'm particularly looking for CPU, Vid Card, and Memory...

Well I'm actually getting really excited about this! i-series is usually a really good laugh and I'm staying for a couple of days so we should be able to have some multiplayer fun on some spinkee powerful PC's. Some of the PC's we're going to be using are worth £10,000I would guess the ones that were displayed on the video are the most powerful ones there.
*Edit* BigSM beat me to it.

Hello there all.
I am a new member to this forum but have been here since those ghost recon was introduced to the masses. Love this update to the great game and am gobsmacked by GRINS involvement in the forums.

I for one will be buying this game for me and a friend to play online.
just one thought on the video though. Did anybody else notice the lack of the AGM hitting the ground targets. I mean i would of thought you would see the missile before it hit the targets even if it was just a quick trail of light.
This does not matter though either way it sure looks the business.
Respect the GRIN

Hey GhostSniper, welcome to the forums.

Great video, as I've said before this game looks superb.I wanted to share some of the smaller things I noticed this time around in this video that I think will really have a large impact on how great this game will be.
The dynamic shadow effect. These look fantastic as the detailed shadows go across the gun model.
The Reload animation is by far the best I've seen from any game. Its a very smooth and realistic looking reload.
The smoke and dust effects when shooting at walls, combined with the sound it gives off is awesome.
When the reviewer threw those grenades, the sound of the grenade echoing off the walls. Then hearing the mexican rebel yelling in the distance, sounded very real.
The sound while in the chopper was amazing as well, that light helicopter chatter lightly being overheard over the roters.
The explosions from the airstrikes looked incredible, I especially liked the ground shaking effect. It was tweaked to a point where it was just perfect. It isnt overexaggerated but its just enough to know that the target was hit hard.
The sound made when the player moves, the footsteps, armswinging etc. Is a huge step up from [GR].
The only thing I found that I could say I dont like. Would be when you are viewing the tac-map the sounds seem to fade. Wouldnt the sound be just as loud? Regardless, its just something minor that I picked at.
Again, great video and its going to be a great game.

Wonder why its the other way around? Maybe the AI dont act correctly with the smoke nades or something..As long as there isnt any potential cheating that can be done by tuning the graphics options to rid of the smoke like previously thought from reading the other post. Im glad they are there, will add a nice tactical feature for the game.
-
I agree with Bo's decision on that. If someone wants to have smoke nades though, its not problem putting them in since they are already on the SP side. It wouldnt take anything to just bring them over into the MP side as a mod to use in servers with trusted friends in it.

Oh my.... amazing screenshots and videos! This game is going to take up sooooo much of my time! GRIN, I think my wife is going to hate you guys

My wife already is. When the first PC trailer was out. She happened to catch me watching it. Her first words were.. "Is that the new Ghost Recon?". I replied..yes.. she then stated "ohhhh ####!!"
I couldnt count the amount of times while playing [GR], that I have said.. "just one more round". -
I think the material falls to slow to the ground after the explosion, almost like it is in slow motion. I personally don't think it is worth the money to buy a ppu for that, JMO.
Did you notice how fast those fragments disappear? They last about half a second before disappearing into thin air. I definitely wont be shelling out 300 bucks for a slow-motion explosion with half a sec of debris.

I liked the first side by side they had before, better. Anyone else getting terrible sound when playing the Graw vids on the ageia site? Must have recorded that stuff at 12khz or something.
-
Try this, in internet explorer go to Tools-->Options-->General Tab->Settings-->view objects--> then find the Shockwave flash file and delete it. Afterwards close your browser and reload the page. It will ask you to install flash. Click yes and see what happens.
