I'm pretty excited too, what info we have had so far sounds great.
I suspect after 9 March we'll start to get more PC related info & screens and possibly some movies

-
Does this mean that there will be opening/closing doors in PC GR:AW2?

There will be more indoor fighting, that's for sure

According to some previews anyway.
Man I'm not thinking before posting today

Of course there should be be more indoors stuff, there is the housienda map after all...
-
Actually, there is a demo for Lockdown.
Yeah I know! I'm surprised too

Wow, how quickly we forget: I even played it.... for a minute

-

I'm hoping it will go like this:
Lockdown = No demo, Vegas = No demo
GR:AW = Demo, GR:AW2 = Demo....
-
Looks like it's not too far away now
Release date should be 16 March - I'm looking forward to this, SH3 was great. Far out, there's a couple games worth investigating this March. ArmA, SH4, GR:AW2, STALKER perhaps... Anybody want to pay my bills for me in March so I can get into it?

I'm gonna have to post my DoW screenshots. I've been modding it and I've managed to put back in the stuff the devs took out of the game priro to release. I now have the flamethrower and Autocannon models for the Sentinel working properly; the Comissar in the Command Squad now has the powerfist (as in the instruction manual), normal Comissars still have the powersword; the Priest in the Command Squad now has the Eviscerator (as shown in the manual - by default in game he has chainsword not Eviscerator), normal Priests still have chainswords; Chaos Raptors can now use assault weapons. It's amazing what you can do with a bit of jiggerypokery.
Oooh WytchDokta, how did you do this? Is it easy or something you can share? I really enjoy the DoW series, anything you can share would be much appreciated

Thanks for your iunterest in my work.
How did I do it you ask? I used the Force. The Force is strong in me you know:
I've been able to do alot, just by jigging about the coding. I'm modding the game to be more like the tabletop war game rather than 'just another RTS'. For this reason, here's a few things I've done in accordance with the codexes from each respective race in the tabletop wargame:
- Ork mobs start out with 10 Orks when they spawn, they can be reinforced up to 30 Orks.
- Chaos squads start out with 5 marines when they spawn, they can be reinforced up to 20 marines.
- In DoW as default, Space Marines and Chaos can have up to 5 assault weapons. According to the respective codexes both races are only allowed to issue two assault weapons to their squads - and that's how I've done it in this mod.
- All equivalent weapons now do the same damage and have the same range. By this I mean I found that bolt pistols etc for Force Commanders would do more damage and have a greater range than the bolt pistols for sergeants, even though they are the same bolt pistols.
- All "leader" characters have their health reduced to more that of their fellow troops. By default, Relic had set the hitpoints of a Force Commander to 1500, while the default marines hitpoints were 300. The Force Commander is not wearing any more armour than his marines, so realistically, why should he have 5 times the amount of hit points? I've given all leaders only 50 more hitpoints than their troops. It should also encourage players to better protect their leader.
I've made it so each race has it's own characteristics too:
- Orks have wooden buildings in the game. For this reason Orks have the weakest buildings. They are also close combat masters, they do the most damage in close combat. They would rather make more noise than their neighbour than actually aim their ranged weapons - for this reason, they are alot less accurate and do alot less damage with their ranged weapons.
- Guard now have access to a larger population count - they have the most soldiers in the W40k galaxy. They are the best at handling ranged weapons (therefore their weapons have a greater range and do more damage) but very poor in close combat. They also have alot stronger tanks than any of the other races. They also have the weakest troops out of all the races.
Etc etc
As you can see, I'm combining the rules of the tabletop war game with reality. I've pratically edited every single attribute file in the game now. I've also added alot more (I haven't counted, but I think it's somewhere in the region of 50+) Space Marine chapters, even the rare ones, from the codex. Now you can have your Space marines in the colours of the Relictors, Salamaders, Black Templars, Doom Warriors, Emperors Warbringers, Flesh Tearers, Blood Drinkers, Revilers, Preators of Orpheus, Metamarines etc etc. I've added in a few more Eldar chapters in accordance to the codex too. I've alo added alot of Guard camo schemes, some from the codex but most are custom made by me. Orks have two new schemes added too: WD 'Ard Nutz, and WD Well 'Ard Nutz - you'll have to see their colour schemes to see why I called them that. I don't have the banners and icons done though, that's one of the next things I want to focus on for each chapter of each race.
I'm WytchDokta, this is what I do.
NailBomb, have you any experience with modding DoW? If so, I could share some of my stuff in return for some help with the project.
I can provide screenshots of my work on this projects on demand if people wish. I'm also planning to replace most all sounds in the game, if it can be done. I got a few ideas for maps too, but they won't be any 'ordinary maps'. I'll be pushing the limit. New maps have been done before I know, but they haven't incorporated what I'm gonna do in my maps.
Still loving that DoW intro. 'Reinforcements are en route....' INCOMIIIIIIIIIIIING!!
Wow, thanks for replying - unfortunately I don't know anything about modding otherwise I'd be happy to help, but I feel the Force flowing through you and I love the sound of what you are doing: A 'Realism Mod' for DoW.
Good luck with the project, hope it turns out like you want it to. I still have all my old 40K rule books and boxes full of figurines, so DoW is a special game for me, ah memories....The DoW intro movie is one of the best EVER! Now, there's a lost art, the cool intro movie. I remember the Starcraft intros were great as well.
FOR THE EMPEROR!!

Ever had one of those things you were going to do but for one reason or another always got distracted and never got to it? Well, reading this forum was one of those things on my list. I'd always assumed it would be a general discussion of gamers putting their wish list forward for a hypothetical best shooter ever... I never thought for a second I'd get the teasing of a life time with the info that has been posted in this thread!
The only advantage to me reading this forum in the last couple days rather than on 17 December 06 is that I haven't been hanging out for a hint or more news as long as the rest of you. I'm so excited about the prospect of a serious game being put together... I'm all tingly with anticipation
Thanks John - It's a great feeling to be looking forward to the release of a game again! Like everyone says, take your time and post a little teaser every now and then when you can.As for the rest of you - why didn't you say something?

This is starting to sound mint. Just what I need to hear during a cruddy day at work.
For SP I like the idea of giving orders through the helmet cam - it's kinda a wee bit like the soul switching in [GR] but more plausable in that you are using technology to get there rather than magically taking over an AI Team Mate. Sweet.
I hope MP will be good too - I still reminisce with my mates about some of the cool games we had. And even now, on the increasingly rare occasions that we LAN, [GR] is still the most played game.
I'm looking forward to some screens or vids very soon

I know we are getting more variety in maps/locations, any news if there's going to be opening/closing doors? Sorry if that's already been asked & answered but I couldn't find it....

Well, if you read the article, they pretty much explain that they are just building on OGRAW, not reinventing the game. So, GRAW2 for the 360 will look & play like OGRAW for the 360, and GRAW2 for the PC will look and play like OGRAW for the PC. That explains the (relatively) short development time, and is encouraging, if true!If GRIN is involved in GRAW 2 for PC (which makes the most sense) it is only a matter of how much UBI is willing to allow GRIN to stray from the console game in order to appease the PC crowd.Yeah I know it will play and look like GRAW PC, but what I was saying was there are a number of things that the community wanted that weren't in GRAW that GRIN could possibly put in if UBI is willing to allow them to. And I think GRIN has a pretty good idea of what those are and hopefully if time and UBI permits they will make it in.
What would be cool is if they just port the 360 verison to PC for the masses, then Ubi can let GRIN go nuts making the game we are after without interference
I wonder what the additional cost of porting would be.... Anybody got any idea how much cheaper it is to do than to develop a game from scratch? -
I bought the game last night and install OK but when I go to play it asks for the play CD (which is in the drive already...). So I tried it with the other 3 disks - dunno why the DVD version wasn't on the shelf yet. This made no difference. Uninstalled, reinstalled no joy. Installed and patched to version 1.1, still no joy.
So, although the screen shots I've seen look pretty I'll never know 'cause I'm taking it back to EB and swapping for Company of Heroes which comes out here next week (the demo was pretty cool so probably money better spent anyway).

Someone didn't go to English class...
It sounds exactly like a 13 year old turd I met at a mates LAN session last year. I don't like him either.

Mine's a keeper!
I'm really enjoying SP at the moment and have managed to get it looking nice on my rig (Athlon 64 3200, 2gig RAM & 6600GT w/ 128Mb RAM) by tweaking the .xml file as per the Tweak Guide article. Just wish I could wack the resolution past 1024x768 and keep it looking as good...
There are some things that bother me such as the team AI being brilliant one second and moronic the next, but if you keep a watchfull eye on them they do a great job. And I'm sure they'll be improved upon with feedback and patching. There have been times I've been awestruck by things they have achieved and other times I've almost broke down crying at things they've failed to do, like something tricky like moving into cover when being shot at. Also some of the dialogue in the mission briefings is too cheesy for me... But I'll survive I'm sure.
Once the MP addon comes out I'll start playing MP - I'm looking forward to that big time.
Overall though, I'm glad I spent my $100.00AUD on this.

The second consists of two DVD cases in the same sleeve, but has 'Limited Edition' printed [not a sticker] on the cover. The extra DVD is the 'making of' and interview for the 360.
PC GR:AW limited edition comes with 360 bonus material? That's lame. Hope we don't have to buy the 360 version for some behind the scenes PC footage

My game came on DVD in one of the thick cases that can hold 6 DVD's. Yee ha. I don't have a digi camera so can't give you a photo but it looks pretty standard.
-
"Ghost AI is now less likely to stare at the walls when taking cover"
That's cool! It's pretty disappointing after you've deployed your team and you use the cross-com to suss out their field of fire only to find they are just looking into the corner. That said, when the shooting starts they pay attention and chip in...
-
And as far as returning the game for a refund, if you know a store that lets you return software after it's been opened, please let me know; I would like to shop there.
Here in Australia, EB Games give a full refund, no questions asked if you return a game that you aren't happy with. Tried it once at K-Mart and they laughed at me
and sent me on my way. -
Thought I'd try my luck in EB games in Perth today. And there it was, sitting on the shelf GR:AW! Finally!! The guy at the counter said that they had just got it in today.
There's been so much said in the last week about the game, I'm looking forward to making up my own mind...

-
same story as you guys.. thought I could treat myself for my birthday on the 4th only to discover that the EB guys in Perth don't know jack. Apparently its supposed to be in-store today, but its not. I guess I'm going back to the demo for some gametime.
Anyone keen for a hamachi demo coop game?
Hamachi Network Name: graw lan
Hamachi Network Password: tabletop
I just went to EB in Perth and in Cannington. Both said it should be out today but that it wasn't delivered. Beyond that they couldn't help. Except to ask if I wanted to leave a $10.00 deposit and they'll ring me when it's in.
I'll just keep looking in Perth every lunch break until it comes....

Till now, my favourite weapon is the Scar-L with combat sight and foregrip.
It is quite accurate.
I can pick uo extra ammo while using it.
I normally use single-shots and the single shot sounds of MR-C and M8 are too weak for my liking. The Scar-L 's single shot sound is good.
The disadvantage is -- the viewable area of the sight is too small. I wish that I could fit it with a different optical sight with greater FOV.
Yeah, picking up extra mags is cool, would have been perfect if there was an animation for it rather than just walking over the dropped weapon. Oh oh... I've just said something that wasn't praising the game to the fullest.... sorry. I love the demo and am itching for the full version this week!
-
I dig the SCAR - L w/ combat sight, a worthy successor to the M4 perhaps? Just doing the demo level now with the MR-C w/ grenade launcher.
Did you guys notice that when you use the grenade launcher and it impacts too close to you it doesn't arm. I've read somewhere that in real life the grenade has an inertia device and arms after 20 ft (or something). Very cool.Â

Did you notice if it bounces off the wall just right it will fly backwards and arm then blow up?
I better go try that out!

Peolpe like you don't want a new game, basically you are just wanting an expansion pack for the origional game. I think GRAW is an exellent seqeul to GR 1.
Bang on Mate!
I've said before: original GR is unique. That IT feeling is something we may never get again from any game ever! Listening to some of the comments about how GR:AW isn't GR etc... is a bit sad because GR:AW is a great game in it's own right and for my money, is as tactical as the original GR. Sure, you can't switch to different team members to control their actions, but you can't do that in real life as far as I know either. I like this game a lot. And it will only get better if the Devs & community supports it the way the original was supported (and still is!).
I like all forms of gameplay (SP, Coop & MP) and cannot think of a single game (shooter, at least) since original GR that I played for more than a few days. I think GR:AW will change that.
Someone said this demo was linear but I feel the city maps in the original were more so. You want a good example of linear, go to Lockdown! Every building was one big corridor with 1 or 2 opening doors and stairwells that went where...? NOWHERE!!
Bring on the full release!!

I'm going nuts here! I thought I'd be a smartie and take advantavge of the SLI capability of my motherboard... put a second graphics card in on Tuesday and the system kept crashing. I realised that my power supply is too small for 2 cards - handy bit of research done after buying the card, rather than before

Now I've restored my PC to the original set up and it wont boot to windows (well, one time out of 10, at best) but boots to safe mode OK.... So rather than playing the demo tonite I'll be doing some open box surgery on my PC...

Another demo weighing in at 1Gig+
I can remember the days when my 512K ADSL was fast and could download a 'normal' demo in no time at all...
