  1. It’s really been 20 years? My how time has flown. Thanks to you, Rocky, for keeping the site alive and for making this community what it was to begin with. It impacted many of us more than you realize. Two decades later and I still yearn for another GR. Nothing has been like it since - as a game or a community. 🍺

  6. This won't be going into game I just wanted to speed run with some of the assets I've made for mods. A lot of it was built as well. Around 11 hours of time put into this. Barely a corner of a map. Imagine a few more highly motivated people working together though.

  7. Yeah I think if I remember rightly he had some technical difficulties and took an extended break. Would deff be good to see him around again though, I've got those models I promised him!! ❤️

  8. Over the years Apex has tended to appear for periods of high activity, then disappear for extended periods but you are correct it has been a long time. I'll see if I can reach out to Apex and check he is doing okay.

  11. I joined the Ghost Recon Hideout in september. I had been welcomed well. We play co-op games and PvP battles, We have older experienced players who played since 2001, and also a lot of young players who got interested in the Original GR. Some screenshots of our battles.

  14. I always meant to put a list together like that. What’s also interesting is the number of unrelated but big-hitter sites that have disappeared while we have managed to stay online for over twenty years. Even some corners of Ubisofts site head to dead end with old content long gone. When Ubisoft upgraded their discussion forums recently they wiped out years of discussions and started again from scratch! I spent many sleepless nights fighting with SQL databases years ago to prevent that from happening here too big a job for Ubisoft apparently. There are some ghost recon sites that remain though. There’s the mod archive at woodys that deserves recognition for staying online and there’s a couple of clan sites that keep their site open every year when domain name renewal comes around, credit to them too.

  16. Hey an old thread how about that. A bit of a change since some of these posts got started. Still messing around with things, mostly coming up with idea for scifi stuff. Tossing roughs into ue5 because you know, We can now. Why not. Just trying to get a feel for a big project that I might pitch later on. More then likely not but I'l be tossing some stuff on an asset store sooner then later. When things start getting finished. UE5 RunAround

  20. When we first started what has become the biggest Ghost Recon mod collection ever, the internet was a different place with different services. The services we used for mod downloads collapsed over the years (Filefront, Gamefront and others I can't recall) so on a few occasions we had to reupload every single mod to a new location to keep the mods online. More recently we relied on two file storage services, Godaddy's Sharefolder and Mediafire. Godaddy's sharefolder became really unreliable so we cancelled our membership there and now use only Mediafire. This means that some of the mod download links are broken. If a mod has a mediafire link, it will download - if it still has a Sharefolder link, it will just give an error message. Whenever someone reports that a file is not downloading, I go in and upload the file to Mediafire and update the link so that it is working again. So, it's a 50/50 chance selected mods will download at the moment! TLDR - Some mod links are broken and some work. We are fixing as we go.

  21. Hi there, has anyone heard of or knows OpenSpy? OpenSpy is an opensource replica of GameSpy. http://beta.openspy.net/en/ This means that it is possible again to play GRAW and other old games online in multiplayer, without LAN with VPN or similar (hamachi, gameranger,...). I have tried it and it works very well. So I decided to reanimate my old standalone OGR coop server and start a small website for info and map download. This is the link to my website, http://graw.oldschoolfun.eu/index_en.php Even though the game is probably dead, maybe someone would like to play a round. To use the game with openspy, either modify the graw.exe with a hexeditor or write the IP addresses into the "hosts" file. This changes the links from gamespy.com to openspy.net. I have described the necessary IP addresses for the "hosts" file and how to modify the graw.exe (and if you need the graw-standalone.exe) on my website. If you have any questions, please write here. regards Bazong

  22. I think the game's 'servers' in the more colloquial sense are sperate to the game validation servers which is part of the Uplay service, I believe. So provided Uplay is still connected, the game will still be playable, albeit in single player. Quick way of testing I guess is to block internet access from the game .exe in windows firewall but keep Uplay open and connected, if the game runs, then it will be fine when the gameplay servers go offline.

  24. Bit sexist and baseless, but okay. All of the production managers for the original ghost recon were women. There was at least one woman in almost every main team in the original Ghost Recon's production Female characters have been present, no, integral to the game since the very start. In a time where it was very uncommon to include them except as eye candy in low cut belly tops or skin suits for guys to ogle, it was a risky move to include respectfully written and developed women suited up like the guys in such a time, yet they still did it. There was also no "for boys" restrictions to the game, it was made for anyone who wanted to play it, I, a person who happens to be a woman, played it and modded it religiously and still do. The base of female gamers has increased since 2001 - however this does not forseeably account for why Ghost Recon's gameplay has shifted. Correlation =/= causation. Furthermore, of the board of directors in Ubisoft, today, March 2nd 2022, there are three women sitting on the board, and 10 men. Only one of those women would have had any steer in Ghost Recon's development, as she was a senior gameplay programmer for Ghost Recon specializing in AI (go figure). However she appears to be a new addition to the board and so far would not have had much in the way of steer for the franchise in recent history. The other two women, specialise in recruitment and IT operations, the day to day running of the business and ultimately would have had very little impact over the gameplay. Unless you want to say that the increased use of Z-Brush and AMD based computers is also a cause of Ghost Recon's gameplay deteriorating or something. This fundamentally is not a "woman" issue. To conflate it as such is an exercise in myopia. This is an issue of Ubisoft fighting off multiple controversies and hostile takehovers from stakeholders (see Vivendi) while also desperately trying to keep up with the increasingly demanding consumer base and complexity of modern systems and as such over the years losing their identity to greed. It is also, most likely, a simple lack of proximity to Tom Clancy. You know, cause he passed and all. He was a big advisor in the first (and I think second) game. RSE started to have less and influence in GR after GR:AW and the development of narrative and also gameplay was dished out to other studios. This lack of proximity and resultant lack of narrative flare was also more likely a major contributing factor than "person has uterus, person bad"

  25. Okay we're in business. I edited all the .atr files with the exception of the weapons ratings for enemy soldiers, which Apex had set as decimals below 1. I believe in the FAQ somewhere he explains some reasoning for it (ai being to accurate), so I didn't touch those. For ghosts, I used the following formula to transfer ratings back to what the developers originally had (or close to it) 225 = 2 200 = 1 175 = 1 For civilians and VIPS: all values set to 1 For enemies, I looked in the original files and looks like the skills range from 2 to 4, so I did the following: 255, 250 = 4 225, 200, 175 = 3 150, 125, 100 = 2 I set up a campaign, set the skill to 'sandbox' and played the first mission. Upon completion, I was able to assign a combat point to each surviving soldier. So it works. Now all that's left is to play through and see if changing these values alters gameplay too severely. I didn't notice anything on the level I played, but then as I said before, I was playing on the easiest level.

  26. In quick operations, there is a checkbox to automatically assign combat points. If you remove it, you can assign these points in any mission every time. In UH this checkbox is made invisible and all actors have 255 points by default.

  27. Each mission file has a <CombatPoints>6</CombatPoints> tag. This is the distribution of points for each mission in quick operations but not in the company. This will work if the sets in the actors are no more than 8 as in the original. In gameplay textures, you can make buttons with an alpha channel so that buttons or dots are not visible. In fashion, they additionally changed the algorithm for displaying these points. But they are supposed to still work.

  28. Thanks for the files. Meanwhile, this one is missing one of the ejection ports and there's no heat shield vent holes at the top. Gah, I've looked everywhere for tutorials on how to update .qob files directly and break down UV maps, and I can't seem to find them. I thought I fixed the issue by simply downloading a free, already mapped model off the internet, but then it doesn't show up in the game itself. Argh, I don't know what's going on. EDIT: Awesome! The tutorial helped. Turns out the other weapons I used to scale the SPAS-12 was way too small. I used the other scaled model instead and it finally showed up in-game. The orientation of some of the stuff is still off so I'll have to tweak it, but I managed to get this model showing up in game. It's a very high res model, but given I'm running a high end PC in 2022, it should be fine. EDIT 2: Alright! I got the new model working! It's a whopping 1,012KB in size, but I managed to get it working in game. Here are two screenshots I'm using with the Rambo mod. Well, I still don't know how to make UV maps myself, but it seems like now I can take any existing model off the internet and be able to convert it into something useable by Ghost Recon. The only problem was the scaling for the reference models I was using was off. After I used the UMP40 reference, I managed to get it working in game. Whew, thanks for all the help, guys! I think I now know how to add other gun models too, now.

  29. Its one of my channels. YouTube isn't a job though. Going through a tutorial any faster, in any meaningful way, usually requires prep, a script, and video editing after. I don't have time for all that. 1 take to upload is all I do so the info is at least out there. Way to much other stuff I'm working on. That stuff probably won't be seen for a bit. Pipeline, Pre-production at the moment. My main channel if you want to take a look. They even get thumbnails lol. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIBKjxrP7MHnWUG7H2aKPDw/videos

  30. I'm from the US. From what I understand there are temporary drive through testing sites. Testing kits are available for sale at pharmacies and stores like Walmart. Most medical clinics will do testing. The US government started a program to send free testing kits to peoples homes. I signed up the day it started in mid-January and have not received my free kits yet. For some, test results are known within an hour and generally the same day or next day. People take the test as many times as they feel the need. Administering the tests vary from proficient to incompetent. In some cases there have been testing scams. Treatment I am not familiar with. Some people do not feel sick at all or only slightly. I'm guessing most people that have the Omicron variant can safely get over it by staying home. It is more concerning with high temperature and difficulty breathing. These people are admitted to hospitals but I am not knowledgeable in the treatment of severe Covid. There have and is a lot of mis-information about Covid in the US.

I have great memories of Sunraa at ghostaholic.com too, helped me and lightspeed when developing Sniper Team mod at their forums. And of course the best source of all, gr.net and Rocky that have kept GR mod scene alive for decades. 😎

  40. Hello everybody. Today, once again playing the mission on the map, Moscow got such an interesting moment. The enemy simply raised his hands and surrendered. I have never seen this in all the time, well, except for the maps where it is written through a script in the mission itself.

  41. This is a reply to an aging topic so excuse me if it isn't allowed. I just reinstalled OGR via Steam and it is working flawlessly! I can say I forgot just how damn hard this game actually was(is). I just completed my first Firefight and have yet to complete a mission! I did a few Recon tries and got my butt handed to me. I forgot how fun this game is and even after all these years it still kicks butt. Anyways currently it's only GRPA and AFZ Firefights installed but am having a blast with just those.

  44. Hello everyone, everything good? I don't know if this topic has already been posted here, but as I haven't seen it, I decided to create it. I recently purchased a book on Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and I was very impressed with the quality of it. There is a lot of information about the story, characters, weapons, vehicles, architecture, and many others. I bought it on Amazon in my country (Brazil), and I believe it is still relatively easy to find in other places. As a fan of the series, it's a great product to own, read, and collect. Thank you all and until next time! Aranha

  45. I was asking myself the same question (my GR needs to be reinstalled before I can check myself). If you edit the Desert Siege campaign ..\mp1\missions\campaign.xml you will see: <Campaign> <ExtraStatPoints>4</ExtraStatPoints> <Mission> <Filename>d01_beach.mis</Filename> <Hero>d_lindy_cohen.atr</Hero> </Mission> (Same in P2: A Cold Day in Hell, but not origmiss, [but that seems to follow a different format/dir structure, so that value may be set elsewhere]) You could try making the same change to a HU campaign, and see whether that helps.

  46. I've only seen a few shooters truly minimize the Hud for enjoyment of what's happening in the game. noises, icons, alerts. I enjoy the no Hud lifestyle way more. There are a few missions though that are super hard to do with it off.
