  1. Itโ€™s really been 20 years? My how time has flown. Thanks to you, Rocky, for keeping the site alive and for making this community what it was to begin with. It impacted many of us more than you realize. Two decades later and I still yearn for another GR. Nothing has been like it since - as a game or a community. ๐Ÿบ

  4. Woody2000 is still online! ๐Ÿ˜„ I was a global moderator there helping woody in the good old days haha. I have great memories of Sunraa at ghostaholic.com too, helped me and lightspeed when developing Sniper Team mod at their forums. And of course the best source of all, gr.net and Rocky that have kept GR mod scene alive for decades. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  7. Playing with AI Backup can be great. Especially if you activate just the right number of respawns with them. But, it can also be fun & even more intense to play SP. Doing this with the Specialists is even better. Being able to choose your loadout and have it fixed, so that you can get right into the game from the start is awesome. Also, restarting missions, or moving onto the next one and being able to skip the process of Repicking your fireteams is sweet. I've created a mod that allows for the Specialists to be selected and made some files of Platoon Loadouts that has each Specialist with their kits as in campaign. It's very cool. I have 3 loadouts for the GR, DS, and IT expansions. Playing with the characters regularly is pretty fun. Each one has been developing a bit of a personality and a history of experiences. To be honest, their's a bit of banter that's kind of hilarious. It's quite different from the GR Regulars. Only certain Specialists can be utilized per each expansion. So, when you select the maps, you have to match up your Platoon Loadout with where you're playing. Other than that, it's just so nice to not have to pick the loadouts and the Specialist skins are quite unique. I play Mission HX--random mission generator, almost exclusively. For the intensity and challenge. The freshness is so good, there is no memorization, no quicksave whoring; nothing to make the gameplay feel stale. I've also went through every map of the Gold Edition, and moved the Objectives and enemy placements, to maximize the defensive potential of each map. Ahem, I didn't stop there, I went through the enemy kit loadouts and inserted each of the Opfor weapons, so that all of them would be seen being used by the enemy, including sniper rifles. But, best of all I gave them some AT4 primaries like you might have seen in Centcom. I also tweaked some weapon zoom settings of the Gold kits to make it easier on the eyes.

  9. Hi Thales! Yep Woody was great. If I lost a mod or needed to find an old one I could always rely on Woodys. Thanks for your work there!

  12. This is a reply to an aging topic so excuse me if it isn't allowed. I just reinstalled OGR via Steam and it is working flawlessly! I can say I forgot just how damn hard this game actually was(is). I just completed my first Firefight and have yet to complete a mission! I did a few Recon tries and got my butt handed to me. I forgot how fun this game is and even after all these years it still kicks butt. Anyways currently it's only GRPA and AFZ Firefights installed but am having a blast with just those.

  13. The Ghost Recon HUD is fairly minimal. I mean we can't complain about it when we compare it with it's brothers-in-law the GRAWs. For the longest time, I just left the default options active when playing GR. The Soldier Panel on the left, the Weapon Panel on the right, and the Action Interface, or ret, in the center. Recently, I discovered that toggling these off-screen can increase immersion into GR, by a great degree. Since playing Arma 2 (where you are able to raise and lower your weapon completely) I decided I'd have to try it in GR. The results are surprising. The changes that I applied were like this: I began to toggle off the Soldier Panel & Weapon Panel for the majority the time playing. This made the screen feel cleaner. When I needed to check my ammo status I would hit the Toggle Weapon Panel key. The extra time that it takes to do this is a simialr to checking your clip in your rifle as in life. The absence of the two panels on the HUD is of such a great improvement in quality of gameplay that I really wish I had found out about it long ago. It freshens up the game and as I said, it improves the sense of immersion. For ease, I set the 'i' and the 'o' key to toggle the Weapon & Soldier Panel, so they are in easy reach. At mission launch I toggle them off and I then also like to toggle the Action Interface, my ret off the screen. I 'lower' my weapon when it's not needed at the ready, then I toggle it on as I'd raise my weapon. I use the Right Alt key for easy reach. The F keys are far too clumsy to use and I don't like to take my eyes off the game at those critical moments. After I got used to the toggles I found I really enjoyed having a clear view of the map. It increases the feeling of immersion in what was already a very immersive game. Well worth trying if you haven't yet. thumbsup The other discovery was the Voice Switch in the options, as I like to play with AI backup the majority of the time. Now, the voices in GR aren't that bad, but I found when I unchecked the voice switch, the game was much improved. Immersion increased and I found that I could throw out ROE orders as frequently as needed without being distracted by hearing repetitive confirmations by each fireteam. This is something else I would encourage players to try if they haven't already. There are plus/minuses to switching the voices off, but for me the pluses win out by far.

  14. I found something that is really quite cool. There's a way you can switch your current weapon with another kit. Of course it doesn't depend on proximity to a weapon on the ground, but I do like to play it that way. So what I do is if I've lost a man and want to swap his kit with someone else's, I find their body with the guy I want to switch kits with. Then I note how many frags the dead guy had used from his kit, and I limit myself to that number when I use the kit I am picking up. Here's how: bring up the console by hitting Enter. You type the word (kit), no parentheses. It's kit, space and the kit description. The description of the kit can be found either in the coop_avatar.toe file if you are in MP or the avatar.toe file if in SP, depending what youโ€™re playing. These are located at: Red Storm Entertainment\Ghost Recon\Data\Temp An example: kit "rifleman-17.kit"/> or kit "dieuter_munz-01.kit"/> Now, it's important to type the kit description in exactly right. The word kit, single space, and the description. Otherwise the game will crash. It's a bit awkward at first, but once I gained confidence in the method it is a really cool aspect to add to the GR experience. To have kit pick-ups in ole GR is pretty damn sweet.
