We all know you where killed in the line of duty once in awhile on the game. Recount your most embarrassing death with all of us.

I would have to say mine was pistol only on training playing with a pretty good guy. He stalked me looking at my butt for about 2 mins that shot me. I still have nightmares about a guy staring at my butt than shooting it.

I don't think anyone ever heard about that I have a passion in writing, but I have. I'm sorry but things like "italic" isn't working for me, so it might be a bit unorganized hehe. It's just the first part.

Introducion

My name is John Hankson. I'm a journalist at New York times, and began the carriere for small five years ago. I have got acces to one of the most secret special units in the US. Some materials have been censured, others I was in no way supposed to tell, and there are no real names shown. The unit is called TOS, Tactical Operations Squardon. They are composed of international soldiers, but mainly under service of the US governement. Some weapons and vehicles will not be described in the book, but under a name like "truck", "armor", etc, though it's no secret that the TOS is in possesion of some really nasty weapons, that they won't tell the public or there enemies about.

J.H.

The foundation of TOS

I'm sitting together with the leader of the TOS. We will just call him "9E" or "9Echo". For security reasons he wears head gear so he's face is not visible.

"The TOS was founded in 1964. Under George Bush in 2007 TOS whe're removed from the US SFs. We're reformed in 2012, May the 15. This is contemplated as the official Tactical Operations Squardon birthday."

"Why we're you reformed?"

"I can't tell you the full story, but I can say that we're supposed to do some secret operations in Cuba and Eritrea, but because that these conflicts is no longer excisting, I'm allowed to tell about it. I remember our last operation in Eritrea that was cause in the conflict ended."

"Can you tell some more about the operation?"

"Yes. We we're near the market town Adi Kwala, around the Mereb Wenz crossing, a big river. We had pushed the Eritrean soldiers away from Ethiopia together with NATO and US forces. The last objective was left to us.

Colonel Tesfaye Wolde was the commander of the remaining Eritrean forces, and we're supposed to assinate him to get rid of the last forces.

It was early morning and the sun was burning hot. We're told that he should be arriving to a little depot building by convoy. We're supposed to set up a ambush. The terrain was rolling which gave us a advantage, as it was easier to set up ambushes in suchar arreas, as you normally got height merits.

As team leader I had planned and coordinated the attack very carefully. We we're so lucky to get a map over the area, so that made life a lot more easier. I had parted my squad up in two teams, Alpha and Bravo. Four men in each team. We had got detailed describsions of the convoys goal and which way/road it would take. Cirka in the middle of their path, a place where the terrain moves up as a slope, there was a cluster of rocks, a perfect place to hide. Alpha team, my team, did get under the rocks, while waiting for our targets. I had ordered Bravo to be near us so they easily could give us backup if neccesary.

As the convoy rolled past us, I could note that there we're three vehicles. In front a jeep, then two trucks possible laden with soldiers. Short after I heard one of my soldiers fire a grenade launcher at the jeep. As the bodies bursted from the explosion, another of my soldiers got fired a rocket from his MI36 rocket launcher agaisn't the truck in the back of the convoy. The truck just after the jeep had there drivers seriously wounded as shells from the explosion had hit them. The soldiers moved out of the first truck near the jeep. I remember that they surrendered. After action is of sensitive materials, and therefore I can't tell about it."

Equipment and armor

As told earlier, the TOS got acces to lots of nasty stuff, that can't be mentioned in this book, because of censur. I'm talking with TOS weapon expert, we will just call him "Jim".

"Jim can you tell us about the equipment and armor members of the TOS got acces to and their possibilities?"

"Members of the TOS got acces to all weapons from AK-47s to OICWs, not to name a potion of other guns. The team leader will tell them what keind of armor/equipment they will have to use to the following operation. Headgear and Bodygear will never be of own choice. The nearest you can get to that is if the teamleader says like "Light headgear of choice". Weapons can be of choice sometimes. We have different types of vests, helmets and light headgear, plus alot of other normal millitary stuff."

"If you should describe a normal TOS operative?"

"Well, it's hard to say there's a 'normal' operative. But if I had to, I would probaly describe him with helmet and M842 camo, original danish camo, but modified a bit."

(Pictures can't be taken from a document too, I'm busy now so I won't have enough time for posting links. But it's just search the web for Danish special forces or jagerkorpset and you see.

This is pictures of the danish special forces. TOS is pretty similar with clothing. I'm not allowed to take photos of any TOS operatives, equipment, etc.

Don't miss the grenade projectile flying past the right side of my head right at the end -- I can't believe I survived a leg wound, three shots to the torso, and at least eight enemies attacking me all at once. I had a wargasm after that little adventure, almost threw my headphones across the room in pure excitement and amazement at what I had just survived

Also the 'Defeat' text at the end is a replay bug -- don't try to tell me I lost after all that.

Sergeant Major 2F suggested that I post the records of our Team vs Team skirmishes here, so here I go. Didn't get all of them recorded but once I remembered to save the missionstats.htm file I got the rest.

Day 1 - TOS vs CHI

Match 1 - Caves

Participants: Six TOS with one non-member vs Four CHI with two non-members

Summary: TOS spawned at Caves; CHI spawned near tent camp. CHI proceeded up the ridge towards caves with some others going through the woods towards TOS insertion. Two TOS snipers covered from the woods and cliffside and took out several potential CHI flankers. TOS riflemen took heavy fire from the tent camp and were pushed back but upon respawning retook the ridge and held it against enemy forces.

Outcome: TOS won by timer.

Match 2 - Castle

Participants: Five TOS with one non-member vs Five CHI with one non-member

Summary: TOS spawned northeast of castle on road; CHI spawned southeast of castle on road. TOS established a position near the east castle gate and held off CHI forces for a short time. CHI forces overpowered defenses and set up positions overlooking TOS insertion and killed TOS as they spawned.

Outcome: CHI won by timer.

Match 3 - Mountain

Participants: Six TOS vs Five CHI with one non-member

Summary: TOS spawned at tent camp; CHI spawned somewhere northwest. TOS sent one team up the left road and one team down the right road. Both teams encountered resistance, but the east team took the most hits from above and on the road. They were soon overrun and killed. The west team had too many snipers and they were quickly overtaken by the CHI forces.

Outcome: CHI won by timer.

Match 4 - Farm

Participants: Six TOS with one non-member vs Eight CHI

Summary: TOS spawned near barn; CHI spawned somewhere to the north near farmhouse. TOS moved a team down each fenceline going west and north. They encountered enemy forces and were pushed back to the barn where they defended the area well until the timer expired.

Outcome: CHI won by timer.

Day 2 tomorrow. It gets prettier for us, don't worry

We were playing DEFEND mode with 40 enemies on the Embassy *Rain* map, and we were inserted in the hotel. After about ten minutes, all of my team members were dead and I was the last man standing, with nearly 30 enemies remaining. I swung open the metal door leading outside the hotel and waited until the first ten enemies rushed the stairs. One of them managed to pop me in the chest but my armor deflected it. I stuffed magazine after magazine of 5.56mm ammo into my M16A2 rifle as more enemies charged up the stairs. I finally retreated after I blew the door up with a 40mm round fired from my M203 grenade launcher. Pressing my body against the wooden door at the top of the stairs, I listened for the telltale sounds of footsteps padding up the stairs towards me. I felt the door push against me and fired through the door. One down. This happened again. Then like another 20 times.

No joke. I killed twenty-five guys through that door and I only had a few rounds left by the time it was over. There were only 3 enemies left and I fired a grenade down the stairs, knocking the enemy count down to two. I waited for at least ten minutes and finally left the building, muttering something about this being DEFEND mode, not ATTACK. I stepped around the corner and what-do-ya-know, I get nailed right in the chest and I waited for the blue screen of death (After-action screen) that would mock my failure with the long line of 'DEAD' statuses. But wait, I didn't die. Somehow I clicked the trigger and the bullets apparently found the bad dude's head, killing him. Now just one was left. I walked around the corner, with two bullet holes in my chest.

'All Soldiers Have Been Lost.....' I should have guessed it. I couldn't make it out alive and enjoy life as my team nominated me for a Bronze Star. Nope, I got capped by a dude across the map with a blood-spattered cap covering his eyes shooting from the hip with a BB gun. Screw this game.

I got bored so I started this miniseries I was working on awhile back. It was inspired by the TV series Deadliest Warrior. I take factions from GR mods and pit them against each other. I do tests with each weapon from each faction and then to decide the winner, I put a four man team from each faction against each other on three different maps to make sure they don't win by luck. The faction that gets best out of three battles gets 10 points, and for each weapon 'edge' they get 5 points. I add up their combat points, e.g. the Taliban have a total of 13 in this episode, so if the Taliban won the battle, got 2 edges, and had 13 points, they would end up with 33 points in total at the end. The winner is the one with the most points. If any of you modders have a problem with me using your actors in the video, just tell me and I'll take the video down. I didn't figure anyone would mind as I was advertising your mods, not reusing them or anything. Enjoy.

This is a thread dedicated to stories about Apex's server. As requested, I will make it seem real, not like a game. I will make up names for the players, but I will use their in-game username for their 'nickname'. I will add some realism and embellish the stories to make them more interesting, but I will not change the outcome or progress of the missions, so what you read is pretty much what happened.

I sent Team Bravo (TB) and Team Charlie (TC) to the west to the caves so they would be able to flank the campsite. We went up the large incline near the clifftop MG nest. Once we got about 150m from from the camp, we received fire and lost one of Alpha. I dove to the ground and pulled out my mortar launcher. Dropping the platform into firm ground and flipping up the sights, I began scanning the camp site for targets. With my rangefinder/binoculars I spotted a Texas rifleman in the middle of the camp firing from behind a tent. I got readings on the tent behind him: 135.1m

Using that as a reference, I aimed at a box behind the enemy. I lined the sights on it at 125m. I launched it and watched as a mortar round flew into the sky, halted for a split second in mid-air, and plummeted into the camp. I hit nothing. Readjusting my sights as bullets ricocheted off rocks and blew dirt into my eyes as they hit only a few inches away from me, I lined up the sights on the middle of the camp at 120m. I fired it again, with the same result. Nothing. I was going to get shot if I missed again. I lined it up on the ground right by the Texan, and let loose a mortar set for 118m. Slamming into the ground, it shredded the tent and left two tangos lying face down in the dirt.

Me and my dad are taking on the OGR campaign on the weekends and evenings, and we're doing it with low respawns, no threat indicator, sniper rifles, and on Elite mode. We started out with 8 respawns on the first mission, and as we progress through the missions, we'll get down until we're at 1 respawn each. I'd like to do it without respawns, but my dad gripes about having to watch me play after he recklessly runs into enemy gunfire.

M01 - Caves

Obviously, the first mission was at the caves. Our plan: take down the outskirt patrols first, move to the camp, and while I was taking down the caves, he would return to the extraction and cover for me as I extracted myself. We kept a low profile and darted from tree to tree and headed towards the clearing ahead on the hill. Through my PSG-1's scope, I spotted a tango covering the area with an AK47 from his bunker. I chatted to him that I would take the shot, and as the crosshairs closed in, I pulled the trigger, and down he fell. We advanced, and, it appeared that my shot had alerted the enemy patrols on the hill behind the bunker. They hit the ground and started laying down suppressive fire, and I retalliated with seven well-placed rounds from a prone position, resulting in seven enemy casualties. My dad (what the heck was he thinking?) ran, standing into the open, and burst out with two and a half sniper shots. The reason it was two and a half was because a stray RPK bullet happened to blow him head over heels, and I saw him chat in at the top of the screen: "ouch". We moved up the hill, and I quickchatted with the '4' key, signaling him to fall back as I spotted a lone gunner on the mountain ridge above us. I crept a little further up the hill and let the crosshairs slide into place right above his ear. I waited for him to turn the mounted gun one more time, and I pullled the trigger. Scratch anoher one.

I got up to a crouch, and pressing '0' told my dad to rally on me and stay close. We crept through the brush towards a trench of sandbags where I figured an enemy would be. Sure enough, as I peeked around a bush I saw the back of his head as he scanned the distance for movement with his Dragunov. I chatted in for my dad to hold position, and I crawled a little ways forward. I aimed, waited a moment, and took the shot. Another one down. We got up and sprinted up the mountain and neared the camp, and after a while we had reached a position around 70m from the camp. We got prone, and side by side, we crawled up the hill towards them. As we topped a small incline, I slid my scope across the camp and counted 7 enemies, cooking fish and drinking cheap wine. Oh, and you know that guy who's smoking in the camp? Well, he has a ski mask on with no mouthhole. Really? I told him to get ready, and our two PSGs leveled ahead, ready to strike the enemy down. I started to chat in for him to take the three on the right, but instead I told him to play it by ear and nail the first one he could. I counted down from 3, and on 'Mark', we started slaying the tangos who had no idea what was happening. My dad nailed the smoker's friend in the spine, dropping him instantly. I hit fishboy in the head and it penetrated him and hit the guy next to him in the gut. He flinched and started to run for the tent, but I dropped him with a beautiful 'one-two' to the legs. I popped in another mag, and whipped around to nail smoker as he ran behind the outhouse, but my dad dropped him with a perfect neck shot. I saw one of fishboy's friends try to sneak away from the campfire, and he broke into a run towards the cover of the tents. Bad move. I dropped him with a 7.62 bullet to center mass, and he collapsed into the ground. My dad, in the meantime, had killed the last two survivors and we approached the tents, suppressed Berettas drawn. We cleared the camp, and I set a new waypoint on our map; for me the caves, my dad the extraction zone. As I placed our waypoints, I saw a tango running up the hill on the map, and I closed the map and zoomed in on the hill. If you've seen the mission in IGOR, you'd probably know that this was a runner who went to alert the guards at the caverns, which wasn't particulary good news. My dad decided to come along to the caves in case we ran into reinforcements after the enemy was alerted, so together we set off up the mountain.

My partner rounded a rock near the caves and ran into a rifleman slowly approaching with an RPK, who promptly dropped him. My dad respawned back at the insertion/extraction, and I heard that he was already in trouble. I chatted in to lay down immediately and I started to consider my choices to deal with this gunner around the rock next to me. I drew my handgun and crept around the left side. I saw the baddie looking towards my dad's body, and I aimed the pistol at his head. I pulled the trigger, and a silenced round pierced his head, killing him instantly. I heard extremely heavy gunfire coming from the exfil where my dad was pinned down, and thought maybe I could recon the situation from the ridge. I ran to the edge of the cliff in front of the caves, and looked down to see gunflashes in the distance, but couldn't see through the fog well enough to do anything. At least they weren't close enough to harm my teammate, so I turned my scope across the landscape. I suddenly spotted a patrol of seven down by a little shack, and decided to eliminate them in case they tried to attack my dad. I aimed at a tango as he went behind the shack, and foolishly, I took a shot at a man next to him even though two enemies were still behind the shack. Most of them ran down the hill (towards my dad who was already in trouble ) and two laid down and laid down fire upon me. I retreated up the hill after dropping two more of them, and I headed to the caves. Our plan was for him to clear the exfil while I cleared the caves and captured Papashvili, but the mission had gone bad and we had no choice but to execute him along with his men.

I crept into the caves, and a heavy gunner with an RPK stepped around the large entrance on the left. I suppressed him with my suppressed pistol and continued into the caves undetected. I looked around a little fold out metal chair and saw a guard at the back cave entrance. I popped him, and crept forward to see another tango in the small entrance to my right. I took him down, and listened as I heard my dad and the enemies' gunshots quitely battling in the distance. I peeked into the cave and launched two rounds into Papashvili's chest, killing him and failing the secondary objective. I finished off his guards and started sprinting back to my dad who was still pinned down at the insertion. He had died twice and was still taking hits, which left us with about two respawns left (we had the respawns on team so if one of us died up to the limit, it would end rather than make us have to watch the other one until he ran out of respawns too). I started running out of the caves and almost got spotted by a two man patrol a little ways from the caves. I looked at my sniper. Empty. My pistol only had 4 rounds left in my mag which was my last mag. I was cornered by two tangos about 25m away, and my dad was still pinned down and using up our last respawns. I decided to take the risk of shooting them. I aimed down my sights, and with three well-placed shots, I killed the first soldier and missed once but finished the second one off immediately after (thank heavens for my realism enhancer mod that lets you do OSOKs ) I considered getting myself killed so I would spawn at the insertion and end the thing already, but I thought that would be a cowardly and unrealistic way out, so I started running to the insertion where my dad was needing lots of help. I decided I wouldn't be able to reach him in time, so I instead turned on my command map and started giving him directions for enemies I could see on the map. I directed him to two of them, and as he killed the third one, I saw those beautiful words as he killed the last enemy on the map: Mission Accomplished.

Yeah the friendly AI in GR are not exactly great, but all there mistakes get erased once they do that one cool thing that saves you from being toast.

Example... I just started a mission using the WOI modification, 20 minutes into it and me and the boys happen to run into a few baddies, more then us to be exact. Both my teams are on Recon, which is what I always use to move them, and Bravos scout happens to find all these troops standing about. So they hide in the bushes and point the guns (Heavy MG, Sub-Machine gun, and rifle) at the baddies. Me and the rest of Alpha swing around south and hold up in the bushes there.

Basically the plan was to have Bravo suppress wile Alpha flanks them from the south. So I switch Bravo to suppress and they let them have it. Alot. Most of the baddies hid wile a few decided to shoot back. After about 5 seconds of shooting, I switch Alpha to assault and we start picking them off with some more accurate fire.

Everything was going well until the baddies decided to come after me and my fire-team instead of Bravo. Backfired!

So I'm sitting there with my rifle, along with the second guy in my fire-team trying to shoot this cluster up before they get to us! I switched Alpha to suppress hoping to help hold them back a bit longer, and wile me and my buddy are shooting, my other AI bud in Alpha stands up, slings his rifle, whips out his frags and BOOM. Kills about 3 guys. Which was pretty much the remaining bits of the enemies.

Good guy he is!

I heares an explosion and i got an "enemy soldier down" message and the narrator said "you are half way through". That was awsome. (i'll probably top that next sitting in front of the GC.)

As i ride in the back of my truck i wonder how i plan to take out the enemy with a M16 10 clips and 10 m203 grenades. I light up a ciggerate and as i was inhalling a shell explodes near the truck the shell was so powerful it knocked me right out of the truck the concussive force of the blast rolled the truck right over. I stare in horror as my 2 squad members burn to a cold dust. My squad was down 2 other squads of 3 men already escaped. I follow hoping to catch up to link them squads and me up into one team to do this coming mission. I cathch up to them heart racing like a dragester at top speed " Your alive! " said the captain of Bravo. They thought i was killed in the explosion but i had always told them i was a survivor in the field. We started moving we had to destroy a fuel depot then a tank hanger while trying not to take any casualties. We trekked 5 miles in dense jungle undergrowth not finding a enemy soldier to blast then we come to a clearing where the fuel depot was. I told them to surround the fuel depot and that was what the squad did but then a tank came right out of the undergrowth, then our comm expert back at a Allied installation told us tha the tank was to guard because they saw some soldiers in the undergrowth. I knew we had botched the insertion, we had to take out that tank soon or that chain gun would shred us in a cloud of blood and flesh while screaming. I told the team that the insertion was f##### up and we would have to eliminate that tank fast! my team each had 15 anti tank weapon rounds and we had a rookie with us i told him to fire at the tank while we snuck in but he missed his shot and the turrent swivled and men ran out to where it came from. He didn't know what to do he drew is rifile and as he took down the commander for the fuel depot he was mauled by the chain gun on the tank and the soldier fire i heard him screaming on the com and i look where he was blood was everywhere on the trees, ferns and ground. there was a fleshy hump where he was i was so ###### i told my team to put a charge at the fuel hanger i ran where his body was a trigger i made in the Ghost Recon editor turned to life i switched my m203 and grenades for it for the Stinger i turned and fired and ran like hell twards cover.......

NOTE: This is not based on any game experience. It's a fictional adventure story.

Rather than starting off right away with some action, I really try to go in-depth with the characters and persona of the squad before the action heats up.

Oh, one more thing: the story is set in the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes universe. It would help to have some basic knowledge of that game, but you don't need any prior knowledge to enjoy this.

I will post one chapter a day, and I hope you enjoy it!

Chapter 1: Reassignment

The Galactic Federation Trooper looked anxiously about him, as if awaiting some unseen terror. He was a private, fresh off the training grounds and ripe for the usual harassment from the seasoned veterans. As he took in his new home, a CO strided toward him with an air of total power.

"Pvt. Lethrel, I presume?" said the CO, scanning him up and down.

"Yes, sir. That's my name, sir," responded Lethrel, appearing very nervous.

"Sergeant Hawkins will show you around. Meet him at the Recon Communications Base," ordered the gruff CO.

"Excuse me, sir?" asked a bewildered Lethrel.

"Oh, that's right! You were reassigned to the Recon Division. Apparently, the casualties have been unusually high lately, and Command ordered a Company from the Home Guard Army to support it. You missed the announcement because of your tardiness."

It stung Lethrel that the CO had mentioned how late he had been, but what bothered him even more was that he'd been reassigned. His plan had been ruined. He had joined the Home Guard Army expecting nothing more than routine drills and most importantly, peace. Never had he imagined this. He was going into combat with a baptism of intensity.

Hello

Because of the fact that I have sometimes desired to be able to describe some of the things in my mod but havent because of fear of spoiling it, and also being that it appears there will be no review on the mod apparently because there is no one to do it (or so I have been informed), I want to write my own story, suppose this would be to me almost my own lil 'review' with of course no rating or nothin, but nonetheless this will be a full account of personal experiences within the wwiii conflict. I am putting this here and not in the general topics so its not a spoiler.

Heres the story...

WWIII The beggining

May, 2005.

The worst winter recorded continues in Europe, farming is impossible, there is great concern for future food supply. Russia begins to slip into a major economic depression.

July, 2005.

The thaw is finally complete after a month of steady normal temperatures, late farming begins.

October, 2005.

Many already depressed areas including much of Russia are running out of food supplies. The unthinkable happens. Russia is hit by a major winter storm, entire crops are lost.

January, 2006.

As the rest of the European area struggles through the winter, Russia is falling apart. Hundreds of thousands die of starvation, thousands more freeze to death.

March, 2006.

Finally a normal spring begins, and reveals the chaos left from the winter. Anarchy begins to take in many towns and cities in Russia, the economy is simply gone. General Yegor Kotov, head of the russian army begins rallying troops to overthrow the government, promising a new prosperous future under his rule. One week later Russian tanks roll into Moskow, with most of the entire Russian army behind Kotov the president and his staff are removed.

June, 2006

With what little stability was left in the goverment gone, the country goes from bad to worse. Kotov focuses on strengthening his army leaving little concern to much else. As the country starves factories begin assembling military vehicles around the clock, Kotov offers food and clothing for those who would join his army. Hundreds of thousands accept the offer. Truth is Kotovs army hasn't even enough provisions for one month. A few weeks later Kazakhstan falls under attack. Cities and towns are plundered. In the months to follow Kotov's troops take all of the southern former Soviet Republic countries. His army grows, Russia slowly pulls out of its economic depression, at the expense of tens of thousands of lives, mostly Kazakhstanies. The fighting finally slows and the region becomes quiet again.

September, 2008.

Russia's economy has stabalized with the former southern Soviet Republic countries now merged once again with russia, by force. The tyranical Kotov has severely taxes those regions, labeling their people as traitors to the republic and its cause. With Kotov's army estimated at around one million strong the monster grows hungry once again. Russian troops begin building up near the borders of Ukraine and Belarus. Nato conferences begin over wether or not to deploy troops in response. Nato warns Kotov to stand down or else.

October 2nd, 2008.

With over five hundred thousand men, armor and air power the Russians attack. Kiev and Minsk fall within days. Allied forces have been building in Germany and Italy, but their troops strength is still to small to do anything. The Russians begin forming defensive lines cutting Ukraine and Belarus right in half, linking the lines with Kiev and Minsk. Latvia then falls also.

October 10th, 2008.

Allied forces, now at roughly six hundred thousand strong are moving into Ukraine and Belarus. Jets and helicopters begin pounding the enemy defenses. Russian Mig's and Helos respond with heavy anti-aircraft support from the ground, the allies are stunned. After losing more than half of our air support the air strikes are halted and air to air combat becomes the call. Ground forces reach enemy positions near Minsk and Kiev, hoping to free those cities first. The battles that ensued were feirce and terrible to say the least. Days go by and after thousands of casualties on both sides the allies begin to fall back. With reinfocements stills days away and the Russian defenses building the Allies retreat and re-group. They are pounded regularly by scud attacks, and eventually they disperse from the city areas completely. At home and abroad the draft becomes enabled. Reinforcements finally arrive. Battle erupts all along the enemy lines, some major assualts, some guerrilla style attacks. Some ground is lost, some ground taken but as the weeks go by the enemy lines remain. The Fight For Freedom continues.

Thats the first missions breifing, which is really the introduction. The first mission is purely a cinematics for about 8 min long. Allies and Russians have massed forces at a point on the front at the town of Petrovice, where a major allied attack commences on Russian forces. As the attack continues the allies are eventually defeated by hidden Russian support units hiding in the town itself. The cinematics end and lead me to the first 'real' mission.

The Russian Front

I find myself in Ukraine at the Russian Front with a large allied force. Having been dragged into this global mess along with many other spec ops groups. From the breifing it looks like were gettin ready for a major assault on a key enemy position, and this is a major attack, a few other companies at other locals will be making assaults also. The plan is not simple, we have 2 major attack groups assembled, one group will attack the enemy lines while the other holds. My platoon and I are with the group assigned to attack first. There is reported enemy artillery in the area which is my teams responsibility to take out after breaking through the lines, then we are to attack a makeshift Russian base from its rear while the second attack group attacks also. It is seemingly imperative that my platoon finds and takes out the artillery, or else the second attack group may get creamed by artillery rounds while trying to advance on the enemy base. There are also possibly some high ranking officials at the Russian base, capturing or eliminating them would be a bonus, but its a target of opportunity only.

I consider the fact that control of my units will be important with the possibility of being under heavy fire in open terrain, and select only 2 units for the attack in seperate teams for full control. Alpha Team will be a regular soldier with an An94 Assault Rifle and Bravo Team will be a demo guy with an M4/AntiTank Launcher.

The mission starts, I find myself hidden in a small valley of a creek along with like 20 or so allied troops hunkered down waiting for the go - ahead. Its snowing pretty good and theres a fog, but viewing distance is still decent. An artillery round lands on ground just past the valley then dramatic music kicks in just as I'm thinking about what exactly is going to happen here. Another artillery round lands somewhere and I realize this whole thing might get real ugly. Then I see a text message appear "all units get ready", then "5", "4", "3", 2, 1, "Initiate". Everyone stands up and starts up and over the hill, I carefully follow behind leaving my AT guy behind for now. As I'm moving cautiously behind the main force I see them running across the open feild then a few shots are fired and one of our point men falls, all the sudden all hell breaks loose as I see the allies scrambling for some cover, I do the same. Bullet tracers flying everywhere from heavy machine gun fire. I find a shallow ditch and stay low just peeking over the edge to see more of our guys laying dead. All the sudden I hear the 'woosh' of an incoming artillery shell and I hunker down as much as I can, 'bam!' it strikes near me but I'm low enough in the ditch to avoid harm. I then decide heck with it, I can hear and see people dying all around me and its time to make a difference, I get up and run to a large haybail nearby where another allied soldier is hiding also. From here I still cant get a view of the enemy, except 2 dead Russian soldiers a distance away, so I dash to a nearby trench that runs towards the enemy positions and slowly move forward crouched down. The firing is still insane, with some almost continuous mg fire coming in, must be a few fixed mg's out there too. I almost get it from another arty shell that lands right near me, got down just in time to see an allied soldier near me get the brunt of the shell I avoided. I then realize that I can target some of the flashes that appear in the distant fog, and the fire is random at this range, they cant see me, so I start fring at the flashes. I manage to take out 2 enemies using this method when they musta got a general fix on my firing and more innaccurate fire is sent my way. I move forward some more and catch a figure just barely visible in the fog and take him out, and another. I look behind me in horror to see at least half my allied buddies are dead, and then a text message appears, it must be our assault groupleader and hes radio'ing in to the second assault group for backup. I get the message to hang in there and looks like they are sending some of the second assault group our way to help, which in essence isnt good cause that weakens them for their later assault, but it will be nice to see those guys.

Another added bonus now, the shelling has just stepped up, guess the Russians got their artillery trained on us in force now, dam shells are exploding allover. As the allied reinforcements arrive we finally break through the enemy defenses and cleanse the immediate area of hostiles. We end up all meeting up at the end of the field and my team is ordered to continue on towards the enemy arty and destroy it, all the while I manage to get my AT guy across the field while dodging shells. The allies take defensive positions and wait for me to take out the arty before advancing to the enemy base. I decide now is a good time to save.

Once again I decide that I am going this alone with my AT man and leave Alpha Team member behind to stay with the others. I quickly make my way along a small wall leading me towards the suspected arty area trying to keep my distance from the Russian base area. As I near a small hill I hear 'Kablam!' from a short distance off and again, and again. Sounds like I found the arty, and then I hear firing coming from the allies holding position as Alpha reports under fire. Nothing I can do for them, I decide to press forward to take out those arty guns hoping our guys can fend off their attackers. I catch sight of the first of three arty guns, and the distant images of three Russians holding in the adjecent feild. I promptly snipe two of em with my m4 and the third gets away hiding behind a small hill. All the sudden I start catching innaccurate random fire from a nearby patch of woods. I quickly move a short distance and then drop down as bullets fly right by me. I lay and wait as the firing is still being directed at my last firing position, then they start moving in , I wait till I can see what is hopefully all of the immediate threats moving towards my previous position and then snipe them having to be very quick to acquire each target before they target me. A few more and it looks temporarily clear, and the firing from Alpha's position has stopped(hes still alive). I then take out each of the howitzers, which have been thundering away during the mayem. Upon Destroying the last howitzer I am awarded objective complete but I dont get to savour the moment, I come under fire again and run my $#% off towards the allies holding position. I am then informed to assist in the base assault, the final primary objective , pheww. I once again find this a good spot to save.

This is the biggeon, the allies holding behind enemy lines and the allies holding in the creekbed adjecent to the enemy base will all be advancing on the Russian stronghold. I decide to move back towards the arty area and try to sneak in towards the base from here. I keep Alpha in position in case I die so I can still use him. Obviously the allies have reached the base as I can hear heavy firing again. I can tell Russians are advancing from nearby my position to reinforce too, and I decide to seek these guys. Step by step I eliminate a good number of Russians holding near an embankment that overlooks the base, having to constantly shift my position after a kill to avoid being pinned down. I also eliminated two differently dressed soldiers trying to escape the area by way of the adjecent feild, hopefully those were the Russian officials.

The firing has all but stopped coming from the base area, and I suspect the allies have not fared well. After clearing the patch of woods and feild area nearby the enemy base I carefully make my way to the Russian base area. I find a few Russians scattered about and eliminate them while seeing more and more allied bodies laying around. After clearing the farmhouse area I see a few more Russians in another feild nearby and take em out, then oddly I stumble across another farther out, and looks like he's given up! He's on his knees with his hands up, while I have my sites trained on him instinctively. Then the screen fades to black and a cinematics with music starts showing an overhead view of the farmhouse area. All the objectives are shown completed including the capture/eliminate Russian Officials. Mission complete.

And thats the Russian Front, which is one of 2 of the campaigns most complex missions, so I am relieved to say that the stories for almost all of the other missions wont be nearly as long.

And I think I will make another post for the next mission or two.
