IIRC, the two-parter called Urban Strife was made using the mod compilation called "WARMOD". It's a combination of ECS (about 150 user-configurable settings) with Gunter Severloh's hand-picked "best" Arma mods (about 150 mod files) with the Group Link 3 AI enhancement mod. Gunter is the "author" of WARMOD.

as some of you may know, I recently migrated to Window 7Pro 32-bit

I installed my game on a separate HD (D:\) and made a backup of my ArMa profile on another HD (F:\)

So after copying my profile to my C:\Ray\Documents\ArMa, I thought it was a matter of creating a desktop shortcut and I'd be gaming.

Well pass the Atari splash screen I get an error message seen on this screenshot:

Question:

1) do I need to find my key (I wrote it on the disc) and enter it somewhere?

2) do I need to get into the Registry for this?

Yes I could install the game again, but I got so much mods (ACE) in there, I'd hate to do the whole thing again.

And Yes, I want to keep the ArMa Program on separate HD, just in case my OS HD takes a dive.

advance thanks

I got this game and it runs very poorly on my system, I tried throwing the settings all the way down to the lowest in graphics but it still runs like crap. I know my system isnt the most up to date or anything, but really I think not being able to run it on Very Low is pretty pathetic. I have some addons but it doesent matter it did this before I added those. It sucks that it runs so bad because it looks like a nice game otherwise, but its just unplayable with this kind of graphics lag. I also have random Crash To Desktop, and slow loading of textures (low LOD textures inplace of what should be high quality textures).

Who are the 28thMEU?

The 28thMEU are a group of gamers who want to emulate a real life Marine Expeditionary Unit. The 28thMEU itself is fictional MEU but the units within it are based off real USMC units. We are looking for mature players who can help make the 28thMEU an elite fighting force.

We have recently moved from the Ghost Recon series to ArmA, and any GR fans are welcome as well. When we conduct a campaign or mission we will make it as realistic as the game allows and how MEUs operate in real life. But even before the campaign or mission we will go through MEU work up to help train new recruits and give the veteran members some refresher training.

Our aim for ArmA is to have at least one company of infantry grunts, one flight of Cobra pilots, 2 flights of MV-22 Osprey pilots 1 platoon of M1A2 tanks and 1 platoon of LAV-25s operational.

How do you join?

For more information about our group go to our website --> www.tbhow.com

PS: Even though we like realism we also recognize that games are supposed to be fun, and as such we're pretty laid back and help each other out no matter the skill level of the player in a particular area.

I am the Lt in charge of the ANGLICO, and if you'd like to contact me personally my name on tbhow.com is Wraith, ICQ# 397650323.

If you know someone else who may be interested, then definitely let them know about us.

Thanks,

I know there is an Arma forum here, but it would make no sense to post this question over there. I was watching the vid that Rocky posted recently of the Project Reality mod for BF2, and I thought "this looks a lot like ArmA, just less complex".

I have to ask myself (or you guys) what possible reason could any tac sim fan (GR fan) have for not jumping into Arma? In my opinion the combat is absloute perfection, now that the bugs are cleaned up. Because this is not the Arma forum I won't go into what makes it so great, all I wanted to know is why we don't ALL play that regularly? I was a latecomer to Arma, not because I never had interest, but because until late last year I never bothered to look into it, all the while assuming it's probably just another lame shooter like CS or something. When I DID finally discovered it I was totally blown away. It is everything I ever dreamed a combat sim could be.

I can only assume the biggest reason not to play it is that it's not the same "quick fix" that GR offers. Arma requires more time per session (for the larger scale missions and higher level of detail with regards to character assignments and duties?

I can understand that, but you would truely blow my mind if someone here were to tell me they just don't like the sim, as apposed to "it's just too involved", or system requirements or something like that.

I will conceade this, that the #1 thing I have against Arma, and the reason I'm not more active there, is the lack of structure (campaign) and you seem to have to be willing to learn to edit the game to get the most out of it. Just one example, I had to edit many missions just to be able to load out PRIOR to starting the mission; the standard method of loadingout is having a weapon crate at your insertion zone, which is s t u p i d.

The skin it comes with is pretty poor, the model lacks details on the inside, but all this is pushed aside when I remember that I'm flying an osprey. It's great fun, but it takes some time to get the hang of it. You can't switch from chopper mod to plane mod when you want to, chopper mod is for auto hover only.

ArmA is by far the best tac sim I know of, but I have found the SP campaign almost useless. Not that big a deal since I bought Arma mostly for co-op. I'm slowly learning mission modding, but in the mean time it would be great to enjoy playing some SP instead of purely working on missions.

So what SP mods do you recommend? I'm not interested AT ALL in playing as a pilot or tanker, purely infantry missions are my preference. So far I have only installed one: "combat recon". Nice mission.

ArmA Support And Patching Plans - Part II

Written by Ondřej Španěl

Thursday, 06 March 2008

Where is that patch?

The patch announced in ArmA Support and Patching Plans is shaping up nicely. It took much longer than we wanted, but finally I am happy to report the work we did on VON and anti-cheat, which was the most difficult part, was successful and we will soon be closing the patch.

Besides what was planned, we have managed to include a handful of other fixes and improvements, most notable:

    * Fixed compatibility issues with Vista x64 platform

   * Fixed Out Of Memory problems caused by exhausting 32b virtual address space

    * Significant optimizations with large view distances

    * AI bridge pathfinding much improved

    * Fixed a few bugs in AI target recognition both visually and aurally

    * Improved airplane turn dynamics simulation (including improved rudder simulation)

    * Fixed clipping issues with 16:9 or TrippleHead displays

Because of the multitude of changes, we plan to release one more beta patch before this work will be "good to go as final". The purpose of this beta patch, besides giving you an early opportunity of enjoying the fixes we have implemented, is to perform a broad community testing, so that we can be confident the final patch is really stable, it fixes what it intends to fix, and it does not introduce any major regressions (new problems).

in case you missed or cant remember part I

ARMA Support And Patching Plans

Written by Spanel Bros.

ARMA 2 was announced, and yes, we are working hard on it - now what does that mean for ARMA? Will we still continue to support it?

The answer is: yes, we will still keep supporting ARMA.

Patch Plans

We're preparing a patch for ARMA, which will hopefully be released in one or two months. Currently we plan to include the following fixes or improvements:

    * Some AI detection fixes

    * Fixed fog on DX 10 cards

    * Fixed anti-cheat signature timeout

    * Added some additional anti-cheat measures

    * More reliable VON

    * Fixed CTD when resuming from a save in large and/or script intensive missions

    * Fixed spontaneous death while driving a motorcycle in MP

    * Fixed AI soldier can't fire behind the sandbags

    * Fixed compatibility problems caused by various copy protections uses

The patch will be completely independent of Queens Gambit, which will be running on 1.08, and no release data for this patch is currently set, but we intend to first release it as public beta 1.09 before the final release will be made available.
