Hello,

is there any way to configur the anti cheat system to exclude some files?

i was allready looking throu the quick and patch.bundle, but couldnt find anything related to the anti cheat system.

my problem is that the modcombination that i'm doing in the moment will lag for some players when anti cheat is enabled on the server. so i thought to fix that i could configure the anti cheat that its just looking for some importend files and leaves out the once that dont need to be checkt. i hope some one here can bring me some light in the dark.

Here's what I feel it should include, but not limited to the following:

1) Storing of SS's on the game server itself (which is accessible to server admins)

2) A place to submit SS's for voting on if a player is cheating or not

3) A community ban list that the game server can understand from a local ban list

4) Additional settings/game variable checks to ensure that more things can be properly checked to ensure someone is not cheating. Just checking game files is by no means a complete way to ensure someone is not cheating.

5) Player information: PID (Player ID), UID (User ID), PCID (Personal Computer ID) or CD-Key, IP Address, MD5 hash of the afforementioned information as to ensure that people cannot change the information as a by-pass of the anti-cheat system and connections logs

Please, just add on to this list and keep comments about the current anti-cheat to a minimum. This is to let GRiN know what we are truly wanting in a viable anti-cheat system.

There are plenty of other threads to discuss the current anti-cheat that we currently have.

What am I needing help with? 2 things...

1) I'm hoping that we can get one of the anti-cheat communities to host a community ban list.

2) This is an important one... I need to compile everyones ban list of who was or is actually cheating so I can compile the list once there is a place to host a community ban list. Please, this only needs to be CONFIRMED cheaters, not people you only suspect as cheating.

Your diligence and participation is greatly appreciated.

If you wish to send me your ban list so I may compile them, please PM me, as this will also be a record of who is contributing.

I'm hoping in the next few days to have something for the community.

Also, and addition to, I need you to annotate in the PM who the cheaters are so that once I start looking at the ban list, I know which ones to get.

Just a thought for tourns and such. We need an observer mode. One where an admin can just watch and is not included in the game. He can flip death cams and such and switch sides. This will help gather evidence. Also if possible we need to see what the player is seeing, not the death cam. See through there scope, see if NV goes on and such.

That way if we run a tournament we can have 1 or 2 observers in to watch and make sure everything goes smoothly.

Today we (TOW-Angel and myself) have finally released the community banlist updater for GR:AW. What this program does, for those of you who are not yet familiar with it's functioning, is automatically update (this can be set to manual though, read the included helpfile) your GR:AW server with the latest list of banned cheaters.

We have absolutely no influence on who is put on the banlist, this is decided by people who know what they are talking about when it comes to spotting cheaters.

Here is the best bit: the software is absolutely FREE! and can also be freely re-distributed!

Should you have any questions about the software please contact me by PM or in this particular thread (I prefer a PM though).

You can download the CWCon Community Banlist Updater currently from these sites:

- Titans of War

Please make sure you have read both the terms and the helpfile before asking me any questions.

I hope that you all are willing to participate in this project and hope you will appreciate the effort put into it!

To start off, please please please keep this thread on topic.

Now maybe I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the information gathering side of AC software usually has 3 parts:

1. Files Checking

GRAW has this. In any game that is going to be modded it needs to check the files against the server's files, not against some standard set. To my knowledge this aspect of GRAW's AC works perfectly, or at least no hacker has devoted the resources to overcoming it yet. Can someone confirm this?

2. ?Other Checks?

file/memory allocations are being checked to ensure that a 3rd party app isn't accessing the executable or other game file it shouldn't be accessing.

3. Screenshots/Replays/etc

Some people seem really keen on replays for some reason, but one way or another those would seem to be a thing of the past. The main alternative I know of is screenshots, which seem to work pretty well in AA. Anyone know of alternatives out there?

My main objective here is to get people thinking about what will be involved (on the technical side, I dont want any 'political' crap in this thread) in some sort of AC system, whether it be something we put together, something from GRIN, or (I doubt it) some other system GRIN/Ubi buys into.

Tracking Players

I believe tihs is something else that we need. As it is now, there is no way to check. A player can create a new GS logon, and he can go about his merry way.

There is something that can be done, track a player using a PCID, UID or some other method.

If a person gets caught cheating, with one name, there needs to be a way to keep him entirely out of the server if he changes his name.

Also, there should be a way to search a player DB to pull up all names via a PCID or UID, or some other method.

There should be a complete profile for each player that plays GR:AW. As it is now, there is no way to even check at all.

With GS as the server browser, there isn't even a way to truly to check players through them. This seriously needs to change if we are to truly combat cheaters.

It will take both UBI, GRiN, GameSpy and US to change these other people's way of thinking when it comes to tracking players. I believe that once the A/C is emplace, it will help some when it comes to keeping them out of our server, but without a PCID, UID or some other form of tracking, the A/C will be little help if that player changes their name or has different logons.

Does anyone know if GRAW can create a note as to what file it choked on when running the anticheat on a player? My understanding of the anticheat bug is that either the server or player computer will not send the right data in time, it times out and the server assumes cheat by no response? But if it keeps choking on the same file, then couldn't that imply that the player has modified that particular file? Just a thought.

The goal of Pro-GamingLeagues is to give the gamers a place where they will find competition, fun and recognition but above all, the assurance that they finally play in an environment where cheaters will NOT ruin the game and competition for them.

To make this possible, we created the essential Match Sneaker anti-cheat tool and an effective ban system who are both integrated and directly interact with the PGL site and competition scripts.

Globally, the PGL Match Sneaker used during official matches takes screenshots from the user's screen at random time intervals and also detects the use of cheats that we instructed the AC to look for on the user's pc.

All the data is send to our AC server and the screenshots are available for whoever wants to download them.

If the Match Sneaker has detected a cheat running during a match, it will automatically lock the account from the member in question on the site and alert the PGL administration, notifying them that 'this member' used 'this cheat' during 'that match'.

Each new cheat that we instruct the PGL Match Sneaker also means a check on match data recorded prior to the date of instruction of the AC and any member caught with that last cheat can say bye bye!

Since we ban our members based on a guid composed of hardware id's from the user's pc and that is created upon registration and after using the PGL Match Sneaker for the first time, it is unlikely that this same person will return with a new account and a different name with that same pc. Unless the banned member has other pc's capable of running games, his game on PGL is finished.

We are in a constant effort to improve this effective anti-cheat solution to maintain a fair playground for all true gamers.

Anti-Cheat Group & Website

I know that this is a very heated debate in many different threads, but KEEP THIS ONE ON TOPIC. Do not attempt to hijack the thread, do not do anything at all.

Here's the idea:

Since GR:AW has an anticheat system, and once more tools for this are emplace, we should consider getting a group of individuals together who truly know the game, truly know how to review replays (if available?), screen shots, log files and/or any other information.

A website could be created so that people could turn these types of things in, the individuals look at the information that is turned in and then process information and determine if a person is truly cheating.

Once the person has been truly deemed as a cheater, they get added to a master ban list that is available to be downloaded by server admins to ensure that the cheaters truly do stay out of our servers and that the integrity of our servers remain with honest players.

If the person is not deemed a cheater, no action taken.

Now, I do know that we do not have all the tools emplace to do this yet, but there is nothing from stopping us from starting this up now, then once the A/C system is 100% functional and we have the tools and access to replays, server log files, screen shots and any other information, then we will be working in the right direction to stop cheaters and keep our servers cheat free.

We as a community can do this, and we would need to elect our core staff of people who truly do know the game, even get GRIN involved... I'm sure that if we show interest that they will fall in place and assist us, and give us real tools to use to combat cheaters.

I'm wondering if GRiN will allow server-sided additional settings to allow admins control the of how stringent the anti-cheat is.

Almost the CVAR checks in AAO, sound settings out of limits of the game setting, video settings out of limits as far as game gamma goes (not system, but game).

Example: Game gamma set at 1, limit is 1.5. Someone sets the game gamma to 2, that would be out of limits for the game and then would kick the person and noted in the logfile for referrence.

This is the kind of things that will assist server admins more when it comes to keeping them out.

So, the question is... Will we have the ability to set how stringent we check clients?

Yes, I know currently the Anti-Cheat has problems, but without these additional checks for the server admins, it will be near impossible to know who is actually cheating.

I'm hoping that GRiN will take this under advisement... I know that they are working on getting the A/C functional so that people aren't getting kicked from the server when they are not cheating.

#4 For matches and ladders... outside source that is impartial and not part of the ladder to review it.

Here is what I see.

Submissions are made by members only, in a restricted forum. This prevents names from being made public until they are voted on and approved as cheating. I feel that it's important to keep the principal of innocent before proven guilty. All members participating in the AC community can view and vote and discussions can take place away from the general public.

I know this sounds a bit elitist. but it's necessary because you don't want to slander someone in a public forum and secondly, membership should be people who are server hosts want to use and contribute to the AC community. This keeps feedback and input contructive and on targets as much as possible. If people want to use the list or have feed back then they need to be members of the AC community. IF it's part of RA then maybe it can be open to RA members too. I dunno on that.

I'm not saying that this is the way it's got to be, I'm just getting the discussion rolling.

I've been thinking about this alot, and I feel it's important enough to mention... I'd put it up as a poll if I could, but I can't...

Here's the options:

A) Public Forum with Member Name, Date/Time

B) Semi-Private Submission with ID# (internal number so that no name is public and only staff know who the original submitter is), Submission #####, Date/Time

C) Anonymous (only staff know who submitted), Submission ######, Date/Time *very similar to option B.

I feel that keep it private will minimize the flame war. IMO, option B would be the best.

Ways of submitting would be a zip file containing all the information pertaining to the suspected cheater through a website upload where the staff are notified that there is a new upload through a moderating queue.

E-Mail containing the zip file of all the information

OR both?

Thoughts?

There are a group of fans dedicated to making headway with an effective GR:AW anti-cheat, whether than be hand in hand with GRIN, or "solo", time will tell - but let's be as positive as we can, and make something to be proud of

Thanks.
