Hi there,

has anyone heard of or knows OpenSpy? OpenSpy is an opensource replica of GameSpy. http://beta.openspy.net/en/

This means that it is possible again to play GRAW and other old games online in multiplayer, without LAN with VPN or similar (hamachi, gameranger,...).

I have tried it and it works very well. So I decided to reanimate my old standalone OGR coop server and start a small website for info and map download. This is the link to my website, http://graw.oldschoolfun.eu/index_en.php

Even though the game is probably dead, maybe someone would like to play a round.

To use the game with openspy, either modify the graw.exe with a hexeditor or write the IP addresses into the "hosts" file. This changes the links from gamespy.com to openspy.net.

I have described the necessary IP addresses for the "hosts" file and how to modify the graw.exe (and if you need the graw-standalone.exe) on my website.

If you have any questions, please write here.

	regards Bazong

Alright, so first off if you don't know what I mean by Pepe Silvia rant, I refer you to the below

	https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nTpsv9PNqo

And yes, I'm still not over this...

Okay for some context as some newbies to the GR franchise might not have heard of Ol' Jenny

	Intro

Jennifer Burke was a main char in GR2 and GR2:SS - to my knowledge she was one of the more 'liked' characters and was certainly talked about a lot by the devs in old marketing material - and everyone who has known me long enough certainly knows where I stand.

Back in those two games she was a Staff Sergeant & a rifleman. I could present the argument as to what her actual Special Forces MOS and what her previous, pre-Ghosts MOS would've most likely been, but let's baby steps into this insanity of hyperanalysis.

Pics:
1) Official Concept Art and Renders - Yes the trigger discipline in the concept art also kills me inside too, I have a poster on my wall where that's fixed.

In GRAW - Every one of the old GR2 team was either still a member of Mitchell's team, or they had been promoted into leadership roles. Burke was one of the latter. However, it remains to be known that everyone who became a team leader had their little reuinion moment in GRAW where the player helped them out, EXCEPT Burke. To my knowledge, Burke didn't even say so much as a "hello."

We hear after securing the airport, she was put in charge of a close protection unit charged with getting the US president out of dodge after it was too risky to get Air Force One in the air. Presumably this close protection unit consisted of elements of the USMC, USSS and the Ghosts and was callsigned "Quarterback"

While the player is out killing tanks, Quarterback has been monitored by the enemy using Guardrail IX and they get ambushed, the president is captured by the enemy and Burke is presumed dead.

BUT there are a couple of caveats to this that may just be plot holes or oversights in writing but leave a pretty big opening for her to have survived:

	It's never actually confirmed
The last thing you hear of her is General Martin requesting a SITREP in which she doesn't respond.

In the mission you play immediately after rescuing the president, you go after Guardrail. In the beginning of that mission you learn that guardrail IX has jamming capabilities, so there is a strong possibility, and it would make sense for an ambush where you want to capture a VIP, that comms were simply jammed.

To support the above claim, nobody had any idea of her current location, despite her having GPS systems built into her kit - But they were able to geolocate the US president from a tracking beacon after he was captured

The ambush sounded pretty chaotic, at least one explosion is noted. There is a strong possibility that many people were incapacitated but not killed.

The president talks about the ambush but doesn't confirm she died, he likely doesn't even know himself, supporting the chaotic nature of the situation.

Salvatore was ambushed by a similar rebel group, while injured and incapacitated, he did survive, so it is within the realm of possibility.

You never go over to the initial ambush site so you never get a visual. For some reason you go over to Salvatore's position and Salvatore confirms he's not seen or heard anything from her for a while. Possibly indicating a QRF was already present or troops were still in contact

We are also talking about a person who has:

Helped push back an entire battalion of North Koreans, who had tanks, arty, you name it and walked it off like it was no big deal.

Helped stop a nuclear apocalypse, while once again holding off an entire company's worth of some of North Korea's finest

Defended an entire town with Salvatore, some Kazakhs and some duct tape.

GRAW takes place in 2013, if you dig deep enough into some of the older 'lore' of the GR games, you will quickly realise that if she's dead, there's a big continuity error.

OG Ghost - Will Jacobs, joined the army in 1996.

In Ghost Recon 2's Xbox release The cutscenes that drive the story are framed as interviews for a (frankly very cheesy) documentary.

Will Jacobs is the presenter of this documentary, and it notes that he's retired.

In order to retire (considering there's no reason to presume medical retirement) he must have served 20 years.

Meaning the earliest the TV show could be filmed is 2016

GR2's events themselves happen in 2011 (Xbox) and 2007(PS2/Gamecube) -Declassification would likely not have happened til much later

If you look at the amount of all out hell that happened around Zero-Dark-Thirty's filming, there is no way the filming of a tell-all documentary about a highly classified set of missions in which this small platoon of soldiers saved the world from nuclear apocalypse would have happened within 2 years.

The absolute minimum wait time as far as I'm aware for declassification of such AAR's is 5 years

Meaning the earliest the documents would have been released and ergo, the interviews would have been staged - is 2016

Add to this no one even mentions the TV show in GRAW or GRAW 2, despite Mitchell having an ingame big ol' fanboi (which is cringy af but whatever) you'd assume if Mitchell had a massive fanboy he would've at least watched the show and talked about it - it's never mentioned.

So to me, personally, after hyperanalysing all of the little tidbits and threads of information (some of which I've not added here for brevity). There is more of a possibility that she survived, but was pretty badly messed up/incapacitated and serious injury explains why we've not seen her since.

Personally I'd love to see her come back at some point in the game series, she was a very likeable, charismatic and somewhat unconventional character even looking back at her now. You rarely see characters like her fill the role that she did in the team, she was a female spec-op who didn't fit a stereotype like Diaz (i.e. all female soldiers are snipers of some kind) - Not at all saying Diaz was a bad character, just stereotypical and not really anything 'new'. But at the same time as being novel and unconventional, Jennifer wasn't an insufferable ###### with a sense of entitlement like most 'Strong Independent Females' video game devs and movie studios churn out these days. She almost filled a 'Lancer' type role in the team and had quite a discernable character arc compared with the others.

They've done something similar with Diaz and Mitchell over the years, where they've given them a bit more to do. I think they should do the same with ol' Jenny and some of the others too.

It wouldn't be too difficult to write her back in. Hell, I'd even offer to give a hand if Ubi wanted it seeing as I've overthought this whole thing so they don't have to, but chances are, they don't, and that's okay.

Thank you for coming to my Pepe Silvia, hero-worshipping TED talk.

First off, cheers to the Dev team for giving us information, and Ghostrecon.net for keeping all the flaming nubs out.

I was hoping to get a little information about the netcode. GR1 netcode was pretty good. I'm Aussie and I like playing in US servers. In RvS it wasn't really possible to have GGs overseas. So ...

How good is the netcode? Is every bullet accounted for? Can I shoot at yanks in this game?

Secondly, one of the best parts about GR1 was the end of round conversations. It was easy to communicate and it was sociable and everyone said ggs. My clan and I had some fun times in the old 13thEA server. Is the ingame lobby similar to the old one, and if not can you spend the next month making it like it please?

I can't wait to get my old mates together and go to war again. I'll send those naked pics of myself to thank you very soon. Cheers Devs!!

I love the game but have never been able to even get past the second mission. I'm running it off Steam so I don't have access to the actual game files.
G'day,

I'd like to let you all know that gameshare will update its DNS for graw so we can play online again with dedicated servers using the ingame account system. It's working well for graw2 so why not graw?

The question is:

Will people run up SADS (Stand alone dedicated servers).

Will players join?

If there's enough interest then I'll start talking to gameshare and get the ball rolling.

I can't believe how glitchy and full of bugs the game was.

Constantly freezing up and or restarting windows on me, it's a shame because the little I played of it it was great.

I also at the time downloaded a no dvd crack so I wouldn't wear out my dvd drive. lol

I saw in the notes that you can toggle the chat window with the "u" key, including hiding it altogether. This is not working for me, nor do I see any such keymapping in the settings.

Hello!

Since we enjoy games that encourage team play we decided to pick up GRAW and play its campaign, and we're uploading it all on YouTube to share with any Ghost Reconistas out there.

I played through the campaign back in 2006 and the others haven't played at all, so we're expecting some nasty surprises along the way. I don't remember much, I only vaguely recall that somewhere at some point there will be a chopper doing bad things. That will be fun.

To keep things interesting and people on their toes we're playing each map only once, to avoid grinding our way to victory.

We did two rounds of firefight mode to warm up to the game before taking on the campaign, because if you can slide then you're pretty much set to take on anything.

So without further ado, here's how the first mission went.

Hi there

Enjoying this game more than I thought after reading some negative comments around the web.

Definately a case of "stick with it" and trust your own judgement.

Am at the above checkpoint after blowing up the petrol tanker and have received new objective.

A tank bursts onto the scene....are you supposed to attempt to destroy it ?? If so, with what weapons ?? Is there a dropped RPG around ??

My fellow ghosts are not equipped ( as far as I can tell ) to destroy the tank.

If you are unable to destroy the tank, are you expected to avoid contact at all costs and continue onto the objective ??

cheers and thanks in advnace for your assistance

This little filter removes the jaggies and it really works. Although the image quality improvement is not earth shattering, the edges of curbs, buildings and fences now look smooth. Since GRAW is a dx9 title, just put the files from the dx9 folder into the main directory of graw.

Hey everyone.....

I'm sure that somewhere over the course of time someone has asked the question I'm about to ask at least a few times. And I apoligize in advance if this has been brought up before. Is there any way possible for my crew to change weapons in certain situations?

For example, in the mission FIERCE RESISTANCE, I'll suit up with a Zeus, as well as one of my AI crew. I'll get the chance to use mine, but when I send my AI crew to attack a tank, hes out there with guns blazing, but ends up getting blown away by a tank. ( the dumb nut ) and not using the Zeus thats he's been equipped with.

So, is there any way to get these guys to be able to change their weapons in certain situations? All help is appreciated. And thank you in advance for any and all help given.

Hey everyone...

Looking for a little bit of help and understanding about the game. And my question is this..... When I and my team get into a certain area and I want to crawl in, how do I get my team to crawl in as well instead of running into a situation and getting shot, at which point Im cussing Kirkland ( or any other member ) for running out into open fire ( The dumb dork )

If there is a way to be able to get them to crawl into a scenario, I havent figured it out, so I thought I'd turn to the forum.

Thanks in advance for any help that I get.

I would like to know what the big differences are between GRAW1 and GRAW2.

Different Graphics

Less/more Maps

Better/worse Gameplay (most important Coop)

Gametypes

Less/more bugs

I have come to really love GRAW2 in a very short time and even if I have cursed the game a million times for the many crashes of it, I still really like it very much. However, a game like this or a previous Part of the GRAW series with less bugs would be also very appreciated.

So if someone could tell me the differences between the two GRAW games, that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Blind thought me how to make maps and one of the first things he tought me was never to use someones map without permission, well it seems that the people over ar the gamer planet think otherwise. If they are right then I can just take anyone's map and do whatever i want without asking first, shoot in that case i could pump out a dozen maps a week.

Read the thread over there if what Fish is saying is right I think I'll start whipping out some more maps I already have a few landscapes in mind, Oh and by the way I don't need to ask first..and not only that i don't need to give the original creator credit.....

Gamer Planet Permission Thread

Seems that every thread i have started on this subject keeps getting closed I think this is a valid argument, Please don't close this thread

I want to see what All map makers think,

Got my way up to Mission 3, and I just can't spare the time anymore to struggle through this game.

There are two main reasons:

(1) The AI...They're infuriating. Ubi should've pushed the development hard on this end. From friendly AI crossing your path, while you're firing, to enemy AI able to somehow see you through large potted plants, shoot through said pot, and drop you with one round. For about twenty minutes, all I did was maneuver my way stealthily to a potted plant of one elevation or another, crouch behind the clay portion of it, and two seconds later that pot would shatter and so would my head. That's pretty amazing. If there were more than two potted plants in an area, I avoided it altogether if I could.

Now something's wrong with a game design if the player is busy thinking about that.

(2) The urban environment of New Mexico was amazing to behold, but a severe tactical stranglehold was placed on the player by limiting his options to only street and alley combat. All of those buildings, and not a single one can be entered. That too, is pretty amazing.

Having played Combat Mission, and Combat Mission Shock Force, two very hardcore military simulators, there's just no way that soldiers of any calibre are going to completely ignore using structures for cover and concealment. Now, I'm not expecting Ubi to make every building in the city accessible, but some of those structures could've been hollowed out, particularly in areas that are just "prime" for sorties.

So, once more I've uninstalled the game without completing it. I'm confident that the multiplayer aspect of it would've been topnotch, but since I'm not in a position to commit time towards playing online, that's not an option to me.

Too bad. I really wanted to love this title like I did GR, but it's pretty clear to me now, that it's not going to happen.

*sniff-sniff*

Have any of you had such frustrations with this title?
