SUBJ: UPDATE 03: Ghost Recon Future Soldier Teaser Trailer - official hints from Ubisoft

1. On March 12, 2010, Ubisoft representative code name Ubi Kimi released to the public three more hints regarding the Ghost Recon Future Soldier teaser trailer released back in February. This brings the total number of hints released to eight.

Hint #6

Official transcripts from Ubi source codenamed Ubi Kimi: Emperor of the Huns from 434-453 A.D. Tank

Included link points to the below screen shot:

Assessment:

The Emperor of the Huns from 434-453 A.D. was Attila, as in Attila the Hun.

Known as the "Scourge of God", Attila the Hun was leader of the Hunnic Empire which stretched from Germany to the Ural River and from the River Danube to the Baltic Sea. During his rule, he was one of the most fearsome of the Western and Eastern Roman Empires' enemies: he invaded the Balkans twice and marched through Gaul (modern France) as far as Orléans before being defeated at the Battle of Châlons.

The trailer and screen shot briefly display the profile of a tank. Various components are labeled, such as the turret, thermal receiver, and caterpillar tread.

Since the first clue of the hint is Attila and the second clue is tank, a reasonable assessment could be made that the hint refers to an Attila tank; unfortunately, searches through various sources fail to produce any information on a tank platform of this name. Perhaps this is a new class of tank on the white board in the Research and Development (R&D) department.

One possible explanation, although fairly weak, is the Attila hardware associated with the T-series Russian designed tank. ATTILA is a Multispectral Panoramic Periscope, integrating daylight, thermal IR and laser range finder channels. Probability: Low – Not likely, but included for situational awareness.

Hint #7

Official transcripts from Ubi source codenamed Ubi Kimi: Close net of tiny cameras reflect what they see.

Included link points to the below screen shot:

Assessment:

The widely debated and often controversial topic of active camouflage using optics. Clearly the picture shows a portion of the material used to cover a soldier. The trailer actually shows several soldiers using this gear. Some members of the community have described it as a blanket, others a cloak and some just refuse to acknowledge its existence.

There are literally hundreds of different websites and resources available to the public describing this capability, so associating the technology from Future Soldier with technology available today or being researched is somewhat difficult, just based on the number of agencies pursuing this technology. Additionally, a number of patents have been filed and/or issued, proving this is a real world product that is being developed.

The truth is, at this point, we don’t know exactly how the gear will work, how it is powered, how long it lasts, how well it works as the soldier moves, refresh times, and/or any other technical capability or characteristic.

The basic overview is this blanket will render the wearer virtually invisible using this “close net of tiny cameras to reflect what they see”. The end result is this:

Interesting to note, this “Predator” technology is nothing new to the seasoned veterans of the Ghost Recon series as there was a user created mod that provided this capability many years ago. It’s use and technology remains classified.

Hint #8

Official transcripts from Ubi source codenamed Ubi Kimi: USS (President #40)

Included link points to the below screen shot:

Assessment:

Finally a hint that can be confirmed with a degree of certainty. Or so I thought. The screen shot shows an explosion on a rather tall, windowed structure. Earlier footage on the trailer suggests the structure is the bridge of the USS Ronald Reagan and the warning labels of “explosion detected”. This was all reported in the initial assessment.

l_1242a8defc444701982bedf68a9c0ccb.png

USS Ronald Reagan CVN 76 is a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered super carrier in the service of the United States Navy. The ninth ship of her class, she is named in honor of former President Ronald Reagan, President of the United States from 1981 to 1989. Upon her christening in 2001, she was the first ship to be named for a living former president.

It is interesting to note that reviewing the HD version of the trailer frame by frame, there is no apparent missile or other object striking the bridge externally, which could potentially indicate a shipboard attack (bomb) or catastrophic shipboard equipment/weapon malfunction.

It is also interesting to note that while reviewing the trailer frame by frame and looking at the screen shot posted by Ubi Kimi, the hull number of the platform suffering the explosion is 74.

CVN 74 is the USS Stennis.

USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) is the seventh Nimitz-class nuclear-powered supercarrier in the United States Navy, named for Senator John C. Stennis of Mississippi. She was commissioned on 9 December 1995. Her home port is Bremerton, Washington.

So, either the trailer has a mistake (doubtful) or we’re looking at a scenario where perhaps the USS Stennis is attacked and the USS Ronald Reagan has some other role and responsibility in the game. I am trying to confirm this with our Ubisoft contact to see if they will provide any clarification, but doubt they will confirm or deny the disparity.

Proceeding with the assumption that the Stennis is attacked and the Reagan plays some other role.

2. The below is an update to a previously reported item, Hint #2.

Update:

Continued analysis of the unknown item from the trailer, potentially an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), reveals irrelevant formatting language (comparable to .xml or .html syntax) that includes terms like cellspacing, border, title and text but also includes a phrase that appears to read, “online video and TV for the forces that matter.” Additionally, it appears the unknown part previously discussed might actually read “extendable appendage”.

Overall Assessment:

Continuing to analyze HD trailer and hints as they are made available. Subsequent reports to be filed as warranted.
