SUBJ: UPDATE 02: Ghost Recon Future Soldier Teaser Trailer - official hints from Ubisoft
1. On March 11, 2010, Ubisoft representative code name Ubi Kimi released to the public three more hints regarding the Ghost Recon Future Soldier teaser trailer released back in February. This brings the total number of hints released to five.
Hint #3
Official transcripts from Ubi source codenamed Ubi Kimi: "Gorgeous iconic buildings, here's one of many."
Included link points to a location on Google Maps:
The video doesn't show many locations in Russia but does show a possible wireframe of a Russian building. (Yeah, I know...weak connection...but it's the best we have.)
The Cathedral of the Annunciation (Russian: БлаговещенÑкий Ñобор, or Blagoveschensky sobor) is a cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin, dedicated to the Annunciation of the Theotokos. Formerly, the cathedral was a home church of the Muscovite tsars. Its abbot has been a personal confessor of the royal family until the early 20th century. The Cathedral of the Annunciation was built on the Sobornaya Square
Assessment: Ghosts (or Future Soldiers, whatever the Army is calling us these days) returning to the Kremlin. Ah, just like old times. But the rumor is we're weapons tight and won't be blowing anything up, especially 500+ year old churches. We'll see.
Flashback to [Ghost Recon] - "On November 10, NATO forces finally reach a deserted Moscow, with the ultra-nationalist holdouts led by Prime Minister Karpin still in the Kremlin. After a final assault by the Ghosts in Red Square, the ultra-nationalists surrender and both the Americans and the newly-liberated Russians celebrate their victory."
Hint #4
Official transcripts from Ubi source codenamed Ubi Kimi: "Swat has another meaning beyond paramilitary use."
Included link points to a location on Google Maps.
Swat is a valley and an administrative district in the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan located 160 km/100 miles from Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. It is the upper valley of the Swat River, which rises in the Hindu Kush range. The capital of Swat is Saidu Sharif, but the main town in the Swat valley is Mingora. It was a princely state in the NWFP until it was dissolved in 1969. With high mountains, green meadows, and clear lakes, it is a place of great natural beauty that used to be popular with tourists as "the Switzerland of Pakistan".
April-May 2009 Pakistani offensive
Through a media broadcast, the Pakistani government announced in late April that it would fight the Taliban in the Swat Valley, this war is called swat operation. This led to a humanitarian crisis. The United Nations Commissioner for Refugees announced that between 150,000 to 200,000 civilians had fled the war zone. The Pakistani military took back multiple Taliban strongholds, such as Rama Kandhao ridge in Matta and a Taliban headquarters in Loenamal. On the 8th of May, the Pakistani military announced that around 80 Taliban fighters had been killed and two Pakistani soldiers had been injured. Air strikes, artillery bombardment and rocket attacks by helicopter gunships are being undertaken extensively. As of 11 May, the military spokesperson of the ISPR report that as many as 200 militants had been killed in the fighting with Pakistan Army troops, also that Pakistan helibourne commandos had been inserted in the area which is the main stronghold of these militants. By early June 2009, most of Swat was freed from Taliban and Mingora, the main town of Swat, was in complete government control and then pakistan government started focusing army on South Waziristan.
Assessment: The Swat Valley is no stranger to conflict and chaos, so this being a potential location for one or more scenarios in Future Soldier shouldn't come as a surprise. Intel from the video has already indicated a possible Taliban connection as well as number of key figures of Middle Eastern descent.
Hint #5
Official transcripts from Ubi source codenamed Ubi Kimi: "Two Triggers."
Assessment: The hint refers to a portion of the video clip that shows a weapon sporting two triggers. Firearms with two triggers aren't all that uncommon, but the screen shot shows a newer weapon. While the screen shot provided is zoomed in, the initial assessment is this is the same weapon that is showed in various other places within the video.

"SMG - A submachine gun (SMG) is an automatic carbine designed to fire pistol cartidges. It combines the automatic fire of a machine gun with the cartridge of a pistol. An assault rifle in contrast uses intermediate power cartridge with more power than a pistol but less than a standards rifle or battle rifle."
If this new weapon is similar to existing technology or weapons under development then it is likely configured to fire one portion of the weapon with one trigger, and the other portion of the weapon with the other trigger. This was a design feature of the early OICW and models under development now. For example, a weapon that somewhat resembles the weapon in the video:
The PAPOP (PolyArme POlyProjectiles, "multi-projectile multi-weapon") is a French project to construct a computerised multi-usage infantry weapon for the FÉLIN system, capable of hitting hidden or protected targets. It combines a 35 mm grenade launcher with a 5.56 NATO assault rifle, both in a bullpup configuration, complete with targeting aids.
One trigger fires the 5.56 NATO rifle; one trigger fires the 35mm grenade launcher.
Overall Assessment:
Like my old light colonel used to say...crickets. Ubisoft's not telling us anything we don't already know...need to persuade our source to provide some more concrete intel. We've got cannon cocker's that can tell us more about the video than what Ubisoft is. They might as well be sending us after some chem light batteries.
On the unofficial front, did meet up with a bloke who has some previous military experience. Did a couple of tours in the sandbox. He seems to think the unknown device mentioned in Hint #2 is some sorta unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). I know we discussed this at the HQ before and really don't have a solid idea on what it is, but it certainly seems to fit with the parts list on the video. I dunno though. That drawing doesn't really show enough details to say for sure. Certainly doesn't look like a wheeled or tracked vehicle. Are those legs, maybe? I'll keep the analysts working on the video and let you know what I find.
