Downloads Update
Posted by Rocky on Thursday, July 31 2003

The downloads database now contains over 1000 mods! While that means a fantastic selection of mods for fans, it has turned into a huge maintenance task, and I was aware that finding the right mod for your own preferences could be tedious at times.

So, I have undertaken a major overhaul of the downloads section, and so far have completed the Campaigns section, the Maps section, and the massive Equipment section. Each section has been cleaned out of old mods and patches that have been superseded with new versions and generally tidied up, and each section given it's own new download page.

Also, on each new download page you'll find a selection of the very best mods in each catagory, with a brief summary, the mods requirements, review and webpage links. This should help fans find the best of the bunch quickly, and see at a glance whether the expansion packs are required to run the mod or not.

I hope you find these improvements helpful, and thanks go out to zjj for help with that massive Equipment clearout!

Too Much GR?
Posted by Rocky on Thursday, July 24 2003

Back in January XRW started a "Are you playing too much Ghost Recon - Top Ten Ways to Tell" discussion that spawned across various forums. In the following 6 months that list has grown in our forums to a massive 190 ways to tell that you play too much Ghost Recon!

Here are some of my favourites..

"and when I came up to a 2 foot high ledge...I wondered whether I could go over it"

"When you say "Roger That" to your boss... "

"Your word processing software recognized words like NAD, SPAWN, etc"

"Every time you go to the beach people always ask, why don't you go farther out in the water? You simply reply, "to deep""

Thanks to some hard work by zjj that list is now neatly compiled in one post, check it out!

Standard Upgrade Review
Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, July 23 2003

Chem's has produced another mod review - this time taking a close look at Earl's Standard Upgrade. If you have not already installed this mod you are missing out on some quality weapon models, here's an extract from Chem's review.

"Earl has created textures that are photo realistic. I say created because Earl has cut all the source material he has up so small that he can fit all the texture on one small canvas to reduce load times"

Read the review here.

Magnum KP has produced a pretty neat kit for producing your own covers for your mod CDs. The kit includes templates for the CD, the jewel case, and a game case - check it out here. Leave feedback or requests for MagnumKP in the forums here.
