GR2 DLC2
Posted by Rocky on Thursday, March 24 2005

The second Downloadable content pack is now available for Xbox Ghost Recon 2 players. There's a movie to accompany the release that details the contents nicely. The movie is almost 3 minutes long and is 16Mb, download it here now.

The movie is again narrated by some of the dev team and starts by discussing the 5 new gametypes. There's a cool new adversarial gametype where you take half the points of anyone you kill in the game - sounds like fun. There's also a look at both sets of brand new digital camo, and the new bonfire map which comes in both night and day version.

Of course what is really neat is that all this additional content is available absolutely free. All the details including the full press release can be found and discussed in our forums here. Thanks to Ubi's new GR2 community manager for sending us the images and movie!

Ubisoft are using Foolish Entertainment's Advanced Tactics Center for Ghost Recon 2. You can download the official version from Ubisoft.

This is a neat tool already in use with Splinter Cell and Battlefield 1942 and allows gamers to  create tactics plans to share with the rest of their squad. There have been other tools that coop squads have put to good use in the past, but this is by far the most professional tool we've seen. Check these screenshots from the BF1942 version to get an idea of how it works. With the tool running as a server your squad can connect and view your tactics as you draw them out on whatever map you have loaded, neat stuff.

The Ghost Recon version comes with a comprehensive 10 section document and 22 maps pre-loaded to make sure you get the most out of the tool. You can also import your own images, so there is nothing stopping anyone from using this great tool for planning Ghost Recon 1 missions! Further discussion here.

AudioFX Review
Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, March 23 2005

I recently had the chance to try out a cool new set of gaming headphones, the Audio FX Force Feedback Gaming Headphones from eDimensional. I was surprised at how much they added to the gaming experience, read my full Audio FX review here.

"When that first airstrike came in it you could really imagine the whole ground was shaking, because your headphones vibrated in perfect time and amplification of the explosion. And it wasn't just during the large explosions that the effect kicked in...."

Ghost Recon 2 PC
Posted by Rocky on Saturday, March 19 2005

The mainstream media are starting to catch onto the mysterious lack of information on Ghost Recon 2 for the PC in light of yesterdays press releases from Ubisoft. Computer Games Magazine concluded that "It seems only time will tell if PC hard drives will ever contain Ghost Recon 2" after speaking to a Ubisoft representative.

Ghost Recon 3
Posted by Rocky on Thursday, March 17 2005

Hot off the press - Ubisoft's product catalogue for 2005-06. Unfortunately for Ghost Recon fans, the press release is a little ambiguous regarding Ghost Recon 2. I have spoken with Ubisoft who could not at this time confirm that the press release referred to Ghost Recon 2, but said that "further product information" would be coming soon. Reaction and full press release in our forums here.

Update.

At GamesIndustry.biz, they have a Ubisoft release showing Ghost Recon 3 (yes, three!) for the PC, which may strike some as strange because Ubisoft have not even announced a release date for Ghost Recon 2 PC yet. Even more perplexing is that Ubi PR won't even acknowledge the existence of Ghost Recon 2, apart from an unsubstantiated message from Ubi in Denmark that Ghost Recon 2 for the PC is delayed for technical reasons.

Additionally, this site has another list from Ubisoft that mentions an expansion pack for Ghost Recon 2!

Hopefully someone form Ubisoft will be bold enough to confirm what is happening with the PC version of Ghost Recon 2 before much longer.

E3 Expo
Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, March 16 2005

It's only a few weeks now until the huge annual gaming conference that is E3 kicks off. Ubisoft will be there at 3 stalls showing off their latest releases and upcoming titles. Speculation is rife that the PC version of Ghost Recon 2 will burst onto the scene, but until reports start coming back from floor of E3 2005 we'll just have to keep hoping. Keep an eye on E3 Insider too where you'll find blogs and webcams. Our forum discussion can be found here.

Xbox Siege Variant
Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, March 2 2005

Frustrated by the lack of siege games ick.bz has produced a very impressive document to remedy the problem. In the pdf file ick details on how to play with alternative siege bases in Xbox Ghost Recon 2.

Console fans head over to ick.bz for details, or download the excellent 28 page pdf from a mirror I've put up at Fileplanet here.
