New Mods
Posted by Rocky on Thursday, August 26 2004

After publishing yesterdays report on the upcoming mods that have been dropped from production, it's time to get a little more upbeat! Stalker and Giwex to the rescue with a look at some of the exciting mods that are still under production and due for release over the coming weeks.

Check out their latest Mods Roundup for details on mods such as Operation Darkstar, Under the Blood Sun, Eagle Claw, Mission Afghanistan, Starship Troopers and Pressure. You can catch up on past reports in our Recon section right here.

Dropped Mods
Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, August 25 2004

It's unfortunate, but due to several reasons quite often some potentially eciting new Ghost Recon mods never see the light of day. Giwex and Stalker have researched 10 of the most promising dropped mods and listed them in this new report.

In the report you'll see titles like Dynacomp, Tears of the Sun, Resident Evil and Stargate listed, along with website links and links to discussions. Check them out, drop the author an e-mail or make a forum post showing your support and who knows what might transpire....

Mosque Map
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, August 24 2004

A recent post about this brand new map in our forums said

"When The Mosque is released, you guys are gonna be drooling all over the place and playing it for days on end"

Good news, you don't have to wait - The Mosque is here right now. In this great new map from El Oso there are three environments, mid day, dawn and night and all game types are supported. Check out the awesome screen shots in this forum discussion.

Download the PC version here or the mac version here, requires Desert Siege and Island Thunder.

Croatian Review
Posted by Rocky on Sunday, August 22 2004

Giwex has posted a great review for Streinger's Croatian army mod for Ghost Recon. This mod was featured in a Croatian gaming magazine and contains highly detailed weapon models and accurate Croatian camo for the characters. Read Giwex's review here.

Defenders Review
Posted by Rocky on Friday, August 20 2004

Stalker has produced a review for the ADF SASR Defenders by Chems and added it to our ever growing Mod Reviews Forum.

The models in this mod are really awesome, so if you missed news of this mod first time around, check the review to see how awesome these vehicles are!

DTD IDF Review
Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, August 18 2004

Stalker has completed a review of the superb DTD Israel Defence Forces modification for Ghost Recon. I know that Stalker did some real world research on the IDF before completing his review, so it is indeed a compliment to the DTD team that it was awarded 10 out of 10. Read Stalker's DTD IDF review.

TG Map 1 -updated-
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, August 17 2004

The Outpost is a new map released by El Oso under the name of TG Map 1, created by H-Hour with some help from Sarc. H-Hour's real life commitments prevented him from putting the finishing touches to this map, but thanks to El Oso, it is now seeing the light of day. The map has a few buildings in a central area, surrounded in nicely lighted wooded areas. Plenty of cover and different elevations should offer good games. It comes with three lighting versions from various times of day.

Download the PC version here or the Mac version here. All game types are supported, so go have some fun! Discussion in the forums. The pack contains the map in 3 different lighting conditions.

*Update* Mac users download this patch. Command map download from El Oso.

Little Bird Review
Posted by Rocky on Friday, August 13 2004

Stalker has reviewed Chems' Little Mod for Ghost Recon.

"This first vehicle pack from Chems is a must-have for every mission-scripter in the Ghost Recon community. As I stated above, it opens plenty of new possibilities for missions."

Character Stats
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, August 10 2004

Sartillies has researched a great new report that fully explains how the character statistics work in the Ghost Recom campaign. Knowing how to spread the combat points between weapon, stealth, endurance, and leadership will make quite a difference to how the characters perform in a mission. Whether they are AI controlled, or under your control, they will perform better with careful use of combat points.

Read Sartillies Statistics Report and improve your campaign chances!

Yes to No CD?
Posted by Rocky on Sunday, August 8 2004

The legality issues of altering Ghost Recon code has prevented gamers from lawfully applying unofficial patches to Ghost Recon to avoid hunting the CD out every time they wanted to play Ghost Recon. An interesting new product is now available which achieves the same aim (i.e. keeping your original CD safe), but does not alter any of the original games code. Even more interesting was seeing Ubi Soft make a statement on the subject.

Ubi Soft's worldwide technical director is quoted in PC Gamer as saying this...

"The more ease of use and flexibility you give to a player the better. Shortening the time it takes from 'I want to play' to 'I'm now playing' is crucial.

Apparently the system includes features to prevent the tool being abused or exploited. Read all about it at GameJackal.com.

Battleborne Sue Acclaim
Posted by Rocky on Saturday, August 7 2004

You'll probably remember Battleborne from many moons ago when they produced an awesome Ossetian Woodlands Ghost Recon mod (21,000+ downloads), then Ghost Recon designer John Sonedecker joined them and they started work on Combat Elite: WWII Paratroopers. We even pulled off an exclusive interview about the project with John Sonedecker back in December.

Well, since then an interesting turn of events has seen Battleborne take publisher Acclaim to court over alleged unpaid fees. For Acclaim this is seriously bad news as they have not been in good financial shape of late, and for gamers, it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to see how Combat Elite is looking! More reading at the inquirer and stockhouse. Thanks to zjj for the research.

DYNACOMP Down
Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, August 4 2004

Regretfully things are not looking bright for that potentially ground breaking Ghost Recon mod DYNACOMP. The project lead, Parabellum, has stepped down from the project leaving the large modding team with a partially complete project, but no Project Leader. It's such a shame to see this project go under, and I'd urge any experienced Ghost Recon modder with a lot of spare time and commitment to contact the DYNACOMP team and offer their support. Discussion in our forums can be read here.

Finally, I'd just like to wish Parabellum all the best for his future endeavors. Para has been supporting the Ghost Recon community for a long, long time, and kept coming back even when real life dragged him away for extended periods. Good luck Para.
