Down Time
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, May 24 2005

Sorry for the down time over the last couple of days, but it appears some hacker thought it would be fun to wipe out all our data. Thankfully our host was superb and recovered and reinstalled everything for us.

Unfortunately there is about 2 weeks of data loss in the forums, so apologies on that score. I know there have been some really good discussions started over the past few weeks, and I would encourage members to re-start those discussions and help get things back to normal.

You may notice some news pages missing and quite a few news articles, but these will be re-posted over the coming days as I catch up with what is missing and reinstall local backups.

Thanks to the members here for the kind words and offers of help I recieved, it really is much appreciated.

US Vehicles Pack
Posted by Rocky on Friday, May 20 2005

There is a small but elite band of Ghost Recon modders who's names will be long remembered for their unstinting devotion to Ghost Recon and the quite breath taking results their devotion heeps upon the community. One of those names is Blakarion, who's modelling skills are only surpassed by his never ending passion for producing them.

Today he completed his US vehicle pack, and it contains no less than 37 new vehicle models that can be used by Ghost Recon modders to enhance their missions with brand new vehicles. Read the full list of vehicles in this forum post, and download the 8Mb pack here.

GR Classic
Posted by Rocky on Friday, May 20 2005

I can't quite believe this has made it to the news page, but it's gathering such momentum it's getting hard to ignore. What am I talking about? This...

Ghost Recon Classic

The Ghost Recon Classic campaign was started recently by Whiteknight as he mused over an anology based on a new cola compared to the new Ghost Recon. Whiteknight explains his thoughts about what happened way back when the makers of Coca-Cola thought they'd replace the hugely succesful formula for a new variant, and had to change it back due to public outcry.

Coca Recon

The gameplay changes Ghost Recon is going through are being likened to those dark times for Coca-Cola, and his analogy has struck a chord with the very core of the Ghost Recon community. Fans both here and at the official forums are adding the Ghost Recon Classic logo to their forum signatures in support of a return to the gameplay formula that made Ghost Recon great. So when you see this image on every Ghost Recon forum page, sported by more and more fans, you'll know what it's all about, and hopefully agree enough with the sentiment that you'll also add it to your signature file. For anyone needing a hi-res version, the best we've seen so far is Prozac360's here.

E3 2005
Posted by Rocky on Monday, May 16 2005

Tens of thousands of people will be attending the trade only Electronic Entertainment Expo this week, E3, which runs from 18 to 20 May. The event has 400 exhibitors from 80 countries showcasing games and hardware being released over the coming months.

GhostRecon.net has two insiders at E3 this year, who will be reporting back live from the floor of E3. Dick Splash and NYR will be bustin' into E3 and taking no prisoners.  We'll be covering a lot of the cool exclusives at E3, so we've put up a dedicated E3 news page, where you'll find the latest information on the games and platforms we are gagging for more information on.

Dropzone
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, May 10 2005

Here's a single mission from Hein called Alpha Dropzone.

"The newly-elected, pro-West government leaders of the Ukraine are en route to a nearby city troubled by old-school Communist agitators and terrorists. Your team of Ghosts has been tasked to ensure that the convoy gets there safely. From your position on the railway bridge, cover all possible attack zones. Neutralize any insurgent or guerilla activity"

Bothunt

An interest in AI and fuzzy logic has led X69RZX to produce one of the most unique Ghost Recon mods to date. In BotHunt you will face enemies of enhanced artificial intelligence, who actually are familiar with their surroundings and will use it to their advantage, offering a whole new challenge. You can read all about the development of this mod in our forums here, tech heads can skip right to this post for the logic information. If you want to see how much work goes into one of these scripts, just take a look at this!

As a bonus X69RZX includes all the information you need to use these new bots on your own favourite maps!

Silent Op has done some extensive testing on this interesting idea, here's some of his comments...

"This is the best AI I have ever seen attempted in GR. I love the way you can see them hunting you down. I turned on the Dev mode and sat up and the embassy roof top with a sniper. It was so very creepy to watch them move around in formation looking for me."

The second pack adds bots to the fantastic MLP map pack 2 (which is available for download here).

Operation Jack Frost is X69RZX's next project, and it will place the bots into the superb Frostbite maps. Until then, download and enjoy both bot packs here (requires both expansion packs).
