12Wks v4.0
Posted by Rocky on Friday, February 28 2003

"15 of the best missions you will ever play for Ghost Recon", that's how Right Hand is billing his latest version of 12 Weeks, and judging by the success of Right Hand's previous versions totalling well over 2,500 downloads, it's not a claim you want to dismiss out of hand.

So, what's new in version 4? Apart from various minor bug fixes and a new feel to the missions, the difficulty level has been worked on to the point where they are challenging, but not to the point you will need repawns switched on to succeed. Download these missions right here.

It's under 4Mb, download it here.

IT for X-Box
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, February 25 2003

Watch the official website for confirmation soon of the first ever campaign disk for the X-Box, Island Thunder! Due for release in Q3 2003, Island Thunder will be a stand alone 8 mission Ghost Recon campaign including a dozen game types and 12 multiplayer maps for Xbox Live play.

Of more interest is the promise that owners of the IT Campaign Disk have the prospect of exclusive downloadable content featuring new missions and maps in the future. Perhaps some of the community modders should send their own campaigns and maps to Ubi Soft, as we all know the hold their own when compared to the official missions!

For the full Press Release and feedback, please see this forum thread.

The Siege Report
Posted by Rocky on Friday, February 21 2003

The first part of our brand new feature on Siege games is now available. The Siege Report is a massive indepth feature exploring all aspects of one of the most enjoyable Ghost Recon multiplayer games.

The feature spans six pages and details the thoughts and views of some the most skilled Siege players in the community. All in there are 15 contributors from well known clans, squads and gaming sites such as XRW, Fort Chaos, Alpha Squad, WithOut Remorse and Network42.

In this first part of the report we cover the Basic Rules, Glitching, and the first part of the Interviews which cover points such as servers, clans, sensors, IFF and defend or attack preferences.

Feedback on this report has already started in this forum thread, here's one quote...

"This is going to be one really useful topic for anyone playing GR. Both those still new to the game, and those who have been playing it since its release.I find it really interesting reading other players views on each question." XRW_Hunter

Enjoy the report, I hope it helps you improve your Siege games, or if you have not tried them yet, that it persuades you to give them a go! The final part will be released next weekend and will reveal details of the top players tactics for winning Siege games. Start reading The Siege Report Part 1 here.

Swedish Force
Posted by Rocky on Thursday, February 20 2003

Wolfsong's latest version of his popular Swedish Forces Total Conversion for Ghost Recon is out. I've uploaded it at FilePlanet here, but will update this forum post with other mirrors as they appear, for the benefit of dial-up users.

In brief - this is what you can expect...

"This mod converts the players weapons, equipment, kits, skins and all for SP and MP, to those used by the Swedish Armed Forces. All other weapons have been removed from the kit selections. It also converts the entire "Desert Siege" expanision pack into "Arctic Siege""

... but there is a whole lot more in this massive modification. Discussion is already underway, so if you are not sure about downloading a 78Mb mod - check out feedback and more details from Wolfsong here.

Ubi Sieze Domains
Posted by Rocky on Monday, February 3 2003

In the first real official move that could be deemed as confirmation of Ghost Recon 2, Ubi Soft have issued papers demanding that owners of GhostRecon2 domains hand them over to Ubi Soft. I know of one fan who has recieved papers from France, and another fan who is expecting a similar letter any day. This confirms Ubi Soft's determination to own all major domains linked to their titles that started with the launch of Splinter Cell.

SR 2003
Posted by Rocky on Sunday, February 2 2003

I was honoured to be invited to observe on the opening games of Alpha Squad's Stealth Recon 2003 Tournament last night. After a moments silence at the start of each game out of respect for =SEALZ= Geordie and the Columbia's seven astronauts the teams got down to business. It was great viewing, the two teams I watched were awesome in their approach to the mission - it was like watching a film as the mission unfolded and the squads reacted to each development.

The level of organisation from Alpha Squad was very impressive and I would not hesitate to recommend that Ghost Recon fans join in on these CO-OP tournaments no matter what your level of experience. Keep up with the Tournament at the Alpha Squad forums, where they plan on recounting each attempt in narrative with images as the competition progresses.
