RSE in Top 20 Game Developers Posted by Rocky on Friday, March 9 2007
Next-gen.biz have published their THE HOT 100 GAME DEVELOPERS OF 2007 and placed Red Storm Entertainment just outside of the Top 20. Placed at No. 14 Steve Reid EVP and Director of Product Development, RSE is credited with leading the RSE team to success with the Ghost Recon series lately. "Steve Reid has been with Red Storm since the company began, and while it has always been good stewards of the Tom Clancy brand, it's that “Advanced Warfighter” suffix that's really defined the Ghost Recon series. The first GRAW is one of the 360’s best-selling hits, with its blend of next generation graphical flair and fascinatingly believable near-future weaponry that helped expand the franchise past the tactical FPS niche audience. Under his direction, GRAW2 launches this month, only a year after the original. An increased focus on multiplayer and a larger next generation console base should help ensure that game's greater success."
There were 5 other Ubisoft developers in the top 100. - Nicolas Eypert
Creative Director, Ubisoft Paris - Corrine Le Roy
Managing Director, Ubisoft Shanghai - Michel Ancel
Creative Director, Ubisoft Montreal - Yannis Mallat
CEO, Ubisoft Montreal
At number 48 was Maxime Béland Creative Director, Ubisoft Montreal. "Béland has been working on the Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six series for some time, and has done design work on older titles in the franchise including Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. He has been given the reins to bring the franchise into the next generation however, and the result, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas, was hugely successful. In fact, that might be an understatement – Vegas was the most critically hailed iteration in the series yet, scoring well above the series average in most publications. Naturally it sold fantastically as well, giving Ubisoft yet another smash-hit shooter on the new generation of hardware."
Feel free to discuss this in our forums.

GRAW 2 PC Delayed by 3 months? Posted by Rocky on Thursday, March 8 2007
Although the official release dates published by Ubisoft this week still indicate that GRAW 2 for the PC is due for release in 22 days, there is mounting speculation that the release is more likely to be 3 months off. It appears that several online stores have changed their dates for GRAW 2 to June 2007. While Ubisoft remain somewhat consistantly quiet about potential delays, game stores don't just up and change their dates for no good reason.....Deja Vu anyone?

Fans Visit RSE for GRAW2 Hands On Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, March 6 2007
A couple of days ago a group of lucky fans from our forums were guests of GRAW 2 Xbox 360 developers Red Storm Entertainment at their North Carolina headquarters. By all accounts the fans were treated to a superb day of very open GRAW 2 conversation and were lucky enough to get some hands on game time with GRAW 2 a few days before its official launch."They (RSE) are great people to sit and talk with and you can just tell that they are passionate about the game just as much as the fans are." Payle Ryder
W1ngshot has written up a diary of his day here, and Payle Ryder presents his recollection of the day here. They guys are discussing what they saw and what they heard in our forums here. A word of thanks to our own ZJJ for organising this event, and to RSE for the tremendious hospitality they extended to those lucky enough to go!

GRAW Sound Modding Posted by Rocky on Saturday, March 3 2007
Simon Viklund, Sound Designer with GRIN, has penned an extensive tutorial guiding GRAW modders through the process of Editing an Existing Soundbank. The guide explains how to make the radio music heard on some maps actually play your own music playlist, with as many tracks as you like. Along the way, the guide explains how coders can make environmental sounds less repetitive, and more realistic, and the six attributes you can use with the sound tag. There's even a Seven Step Program to create an entirely new soundbank/wavebank setup for your customised mission. Simon has also produced a further guide - Soundbanks for Dummies, that explains the basic behind Soundbanks, which among other things cover in detail the fine art of looping sounds, to the point that the gamer will not even realise he's listening to a repeated sound loop. These are great guides and we'd like to thank Simon Viklund for the time and effort in producing these detailed GRAW modding tutorials.
